The next great thing? - FuzzyLogic   (May 02, 2009, 9:53 pm)
We've had the same old Winter Blitz banner at the top of our main page for a long time... and it's great in the runup to the WB, but now it's outdated. What kinds of stuff do you want to see in our Dip site? What could we do that's new and interesting? Dont know where this is going but the little tank driving across the home page is getting a bit boring.

Texas-Area Diplomacy Players - diplomacyworld   (Feb 15, 2009, 10:31 am)
Sorry to interrupt for a second, but I wanted to make a request that anybody who lives in Texas, Oklahoma, western Louisiana, or southwestern Arkansas and who is interested in face-to-face Diplomacy would please stop by the Texas Diplomacy yahoo group (either from our website at http://www.texasdiplomacy.com or directly at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/texas-diplomacy/).

The idea of the group is to build a network of ftf players, to encourage the creation or stregthening of clubs in each metropolitan area, and eventually to build some regional ftf events.

If you know Diplomacy players who live in the region, please feel free to forward this posting to them.

Tom Tweedy of dip2000 has passed away. - FuzzyLogic   (Jan 08, 2009, 10:08 pm)
To whom it may concern.

December 25th Tom Tweedy, the founder of Dip2000 and someone who has been active in the Diplomacy hobby for decades, passed away.

The message that was posted on the Dip2000-board:

********************

It is my sad duty to inform you all of the death of Tom Tweedy.

Tom died this afternoon (Dec 25th) at home with his family present.

His death is a sad loss for the hobby in general and for the Dip2000
community in particular.

Details of his funeral will be available later, anyone who wishes to
have details please send an email to funeral(at)dip2000.com and I'll send
details as soon as I have them.

Anyone who wishes to send a message to his family should email the
message to memorial(at)dip2000.com, these will be printed and passed on.

His widow has expressed a desire for anyone who wishes to attend his
funeral, I will give her the numbers who contact me so she has some
idea how many will be there.

Finally, please feel free to pass on this news to anyone in the hobby
who may have known him. Over the years Tom has been a big part of the
hobby and has crossed paths with many people.

The Dip2000 site will continue to function as normal, after his
illness some years ago Tom and I took steps to ensure that the site
could function without him and in the past months since his illness
last year we've modified the site again to ensure it would continue
after his death. It will carry on as was his wish as his lasting memorial.

Starting Out - xPhile   (Dec 21, 2008, 7:54 am)
Greets All

I have been pbem dipping for a couple years now (I don't count my one FtF game in the early '80s in my dipping experience) and have only played using the Kevin Lowe judges in games from the Diplomatic Pouch's queuing system (and a couple from the Diplamcy Direct grp.)

From what I gather, dc games are adjucated by an GM as opposed to a judge. So, my main question - how is communication handled? Just through email?

I could't find a FAQ about dc iteslf and how games are run, so if there is such a page I would appreciate direction to it.

I have been using jDip as my 'scenario generator' but always felt it lacking when it came to variant support (though kudos to its developers - I love the gui.) I will download RealPolitik and I am looking forward to trying a variant or two (suggestions or opinions on the most popular ones gratefully accepted.)

I have three games on the go and won't likely join any dc games until the two older finish up (the other is just out of the blocks.)

Cheers and happy holiday!
Tom

Postal-Speed Game Openings in Eternal Sunshine - diplomacyworld   (Dec 13, 2008, 9:43 am)
If you're looking for something a bit different, besides the usual Diplomacy game (although I have one of those available as well), I have three other game openings in Eternal Sunshine.

Bourse - This is an economic game which runs alongside s Diplomacy game. Players buy and sell the currencies of each of the seven major powers, attempting to capitalize on the transactions of the other players. Black press is permitted as well.

Deviant Diplomacy - This is a tremendously fun variant where the players get to propose and vote on rule changes each turn. Some hobby members list games of Deviant Diplomacy they played in postal zines like benzene or Perelandra among their favorite Diplomacy memories.

Chaos - A 34-player variant, simply a way to have fun and gang up on people.

All these games are being run postal speed (one turn per month) so while the time commitment is long-term, the monthly time requirements are short. If you'd like to see the rules to any of these, you can find them in Eternal Sunshine #23. ES is available in html and pdf format at:

http://www.whiningkentpigs.com/DW/

If you'd like to sign up for any of them, let me know!

The Time has Come... - FuzzyLogic   (Nov 21, 2008, 5:26 pm)
Once again the time has come... for all good Diplomats to venture forth... and offer up their pen, their computer, and their Realpolitik... and add to that their steadfast committment, their sound judgement, and their wisdom of the ages... and from those great things, beget more great things - a game - of Diplomacy.

Who shalt become the next glorious GM to blaze his trail thru this wilderness we call fun? Who is it that will provide an inspiration - leadership - a touch of humor - and most of all open the gates for those that surround us to enjoy their busy days at work... Days when people should probly be working - or cooking dinner - or writing their discertations, but instead - prefer to lie, cheat, and stab - all because you - the next GM - make it possible.

Come forth - oh ye great GM's... and run a game.

Acquire as memory game - vegas_iwish   (Nov 21, 2008, 1:36 am)
Online one can review old turns + add up shares so really no memory stuff at all. Even live not critical. flows easily if care taken.

I've played aqcuire quite a few times including at the World Boardgaming championships in Pennsylvania. Its worth at least a few plays, it becomes an advanced game of "memory" and since my memory tends to be pretty bad I usually lose. Still a fun play though and I would enjoy playing it online sometime.

Diplomaticcorp - Trout's Home Internet Status - former.trout   (Oct 15, 2008, 4:57 pm)
Folks,

With a thousand apologies, it looks as though I'm going to have to extend the deadlines for the following games roughly 12 hours or so:

DC-205
DC-172
DC-173
DC-191

My home internet connection remains fried with no replacement having arrived - and the pile of paper on my desk that is nearly hiding my monitor from view precludes me from taking time for adjudications here this afternoon. Really sorry about this guys, but the turns will have to be put out tomorrow. Rotten tomatoes can be sent by mail to Penger who will forward them onto me. =P

What this means is that those of you whose orders are still out there somewhere just caught a break.. Courtesy of the cheap equipment used by my internet provider. (The jerks.)

Once again, sorry to have to do this everyone. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Awesome Frank!

We still need GMs tho come on folks 240 active players - where's the GMs out there? It takes much less time to GM a game than to play in a game, since it only takes time once per week... playing, you're writing all week long.

It's probly easier than you think...
