DC212 Peace In Our Time!! - Fall 1915 - Game Resul... - blom.fredrik at gmail.com   (Aug 24, 2009, 1:38 am)
Thanks Bill.

The one thing that bugs me the most in this game is my misorder in Spring of '13, when I moved the wrong fleet in the Mediterranean. Had I ordered the moves correctly this would have been a much shorter war (FYI: GoL should have moved instead of TyS).

Bill, I think that had you not focused so much on the Mediterranean situation you could have brought some more troops into the Baltic area faster which would have stopped me from getting to the solo.

Key areas for me this game were Munich and Prussia. Munich stopped you from entering east. Prussia allowed me to move up through Russia.

/Fredrik

2009/8/24 Bill Duncan <cpt23862(at)yahoo.ca (cpt23862(at)yahoo.ca)>

Congratulations to Fredrik!  I missed most of the interesting parts of the game, but the endgame had enough intrigue to keep me excited.
He seized the beautiful ground firstest with the mostest.  I had recognized that I was essentially fighting a delay since I joined this game.  I simply couldn't get enough combat power into the Baltic fast enough to breakthrough anywhere.  The Fall that I seized Kiel and Joshua disbanded his German units was in my opinion the end of the game.  I considered trying to eliminate Pat and Joshua to maximize my points, but just couldn't justify handing Fredrik a victory.  Joshua did even better than I expected at delaying the Austrian conquest of the Russian heartland.  We made him work for it; Fredrik earned the victory.  Kudos.

Cheers all!
Bill Duncan

Subject: DC212 Peace In Our Time!! - Fall 1915 - Game Result: Austrian Solo Victory!

Heya folks!

The Arch-duke in red holds onto Moscow and the banners go up as Fall 1912 rolls around, Austria victorious.  A hearty congratulations go to Fredrik for coming into the game and marching the position straight to a win.  Hats off to our three survivors as well, though - Bill, Joshua and Pat.  This game had it all - drama, passion and face-bending excitement.  =)

There was one minor piece of business to take care of before the ribbon ceremony - the Russian unit in Norway was dislodged and forced to retreat.  With only Finland available however, and with the game ending, I took the liberty and moved the piece there.  (Joshua, if for some reason you'd prefer the piece to be removed on the final map then just let me know and I'll send out a correction.)

End-of-game statements are, of course, welcome and highly encouraged.  My thanks to all of you players for taking part in the war effort.  And with a happy heart, we sign the peace - though we know the next set-to is just around the corner.

Cheers everyone.  Again, let us know what you think about the way things went with an EOG statement, if you'd like.  See you all in the next one!

DC212 Spring 1915 - The Sky Has Fallen - former.trout   (Aug 16, 2009, 10:27 pm)
Hi there guys,

I gave some extra time for the order clarification, but in the end
there was no order forthcoming for the English army to convoy across
to Norway. Apologies to Bill, but the adjudication has to be by the
rules and thus the convoy fails to happen. Though the issue might be
a moot point, as Austria - seizing on some opportunistic Russian
movement - marches forcefully into Moscow...

Neither end-game proposal gains enough support...

There was one retreat from the Spring, the aforementioned Russian in
Moscow. With only Livonia to retreat to though, I took the liberty
and moved the army there automatically. (Please just let me know if
OTB is preferred.)

With that, we come to what has a very strong chance of being the last
Fall of the war. Deadline for Fall 1915 orders will be set for
Saturday, August 22nd (11:59 PM GMT). This is a weekend deadline - so
those of you without access on the weekend please ensure that you send
in prelims.

Just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers everyone!

Heya folks,

I know, I know.. It's like the Spring will never come. =)

Come hell or high water, it will in 12 hours though. I am back from
being all cultured and travelled up, and have just written to seek
clarification on one set of orders from a player. Adjudication will
be out as soon as I hear back from them, or within 12 hours...
Whichever comes sooner.

Good things come to those who wait, right? Cheers!

DC-212 Spring 1915 Update And Revised Deadline - former.trout   (Aug 11, 2009, 8:01 am)
Heya folks,

Apologies about the delay from last week. The problem with travelling
to the back woods in order to spend a few weeks out of touch with
everyone is that you can often end up out of touch with everyone. =)
Thanks for bearing with me during the weekend pause.

As events have rolled around, I have two sets of orders in hand for
the Spring turn and am missing the other two. Obviously I cannot
fault you players though, on this turn. So we'll revise the turn
deadline. As I'll be on the road without net access at the Stratford
Festival for the rest of the week, Spring 1915 orders will be set due
for Friday, August 14th (11:59 PM GMT).

Sorry for the summer chaos everyone. Don't forget to vote for the
various end-game proposals.

Cheers!

DC212 Winter 1914 In Brief - former.trout   (Aug 01, 2009, 5:42 am)
Heya folks,

As I'm just getting ready to board a plane here, I'll send this out quickly and by the seat of my pants.

Austria builds a fleet in Trieste and an army in Vienna.  England builds an army in London.  Russia misses the boarding calls and has the army in Livonia auto-disbanded.

I will send out a map as soon as possible - probably this evening at some point.  Deadline for Spring 1915 and any vote changes will be set for Thursday, August 6th (11:59 PM GMT).

DC 212 - Fall 1914 - So Near, So Far - former.trout   (Jul 29, 2009, 12:18 am)
Heya all,

Well - with the deadline and date confusion out of the way we can move on into Fall 1914.  Sometimes I really am a bear of little brains.  =)

But its the age-old story of the last yard being the hardest to cross, as Russia puts up the good fight and puts up the wall.  Austria makes it close, but can't seal the deal this turn.  However, with Russia forced to disband will next year be different?  Or can England somehow pick up the slack?

We have two proposals that have been tabled for everyone's consideration.  One is an Austrian solo proposal, the other a proposal for a 2-way English/Austrian draw.  Your yay or nay votes for both of these options would be appreciated, with the Spring 1915 turn.  Please remember that failing to vote counts as a 'no'.

So we play on!  Winter 1914 adjustments are owed by England, Austria and Russia.  Deadline will be set for Thursday, July 30th (11:59 PM GMT).  And I think that date matches the day.  =)

Cheers all!

Good grief.  If I had a brain I'd be dangerous.

The 28th, of course, is tomorrow night - i.e. Tuesday.  I'm sorry folks.  Had two chances to get it right and flubbed both of them.

The good news is that I have orders in hand from everyone.  But just in case people were counting on being able to make any changes until the 28th, I better hold off adjudication until tomorrow evening.

Totally my fault here guys.  Blame the goof of a GM for this slight delay.  =)

Cheers!

On the board, everything and an empty bag of chips gets thrown at our Austrian amigo. (ed. note: the chip-bag WAS full, but what can I say?) The red fleets lose position in the West Med, and Moscow is sacked by, uhm, Russians returning home from their forced vacation. DC212 - Deadline Missed - former.trout   (Jul 18, 2009, 1:58 pm)
Heya folks,

Looks as though the deadline for DC-212 Spring 1914 was last night.  I admit that like many of you, I missed this one.  Its a common thread here though - as looking through my game-file I see that I only have one set of orders in hand.

Meaning that there are three more to come on in.  Tie the ribbon to them and send them my way please - we'll extend for 24 hours until tomorrow evening.  (Sunday, July 19th at 11:59 PM GMT).

Thanks!

Heya folks,

Well, unfortunately Bill has still not gotten word of a build to me.  With apologies, I'll have to waive the English build so that we can move ahead into the Spring of 1914.  Leaving the game on pause for another week just isn't in the cards.

Deadline for Spring 1914 orders will be set for Friday, July 17th (11:59 PM GMT).  This span of time should allow Bill to return and get back in the swing of things, according to the email he left me.

Cheers everyone!

Heya guys,

Still no build submitted by our vacationing English player.  I'm all for giving people the time they need, but at some point we need to keep the game rolling...

I will extend one additional 24 hours here in hopes that Bill can find access and time to send in his build.  If nothing is received by tomorrow night, we'll waive the build and head on into the Spring round.

Thanks again for all the patience, everyone.  Cheers!

Hi folks,

It's that time of the year again, when folks go on vacation...  And my bad here - because Bill actually warned me that he would be out of touch for the next week or so.

Due to player vacation, we'll have a couple longer deadlines this week.  We'll extend the Winter 1913 deadline to Wednesday, July 8th.  Spring 1914 will be set due for somewhere around the 15th.

Apologies for the stretch of the game, everyone.  But 'tis the season, as they say.  =)

Actually, I'm not that bad since everyone should drink in moderation.  BUT - if I wake up in my grumpy hung-over state tomorrow morning without a full compliment of orders then I may, in all my grouchiness, seek out a replacement player for the position.

But okay.  The mean GM stuff is over.  Happy Canada Day, everyone!

Trout, eh!

DC212 - Slight Delay in Results - former.trout   (Jun 24, 2009, 1:06 am)
Heya folks,

Unfortunately, I'm missing one set of orders for the turn adjudication.  I've notified the player in question - and if orders come in quickly over the night then I'll pop the turn out first thing in the morning.  Unfortunately, I will have to charge the late player with an NMR for this round, per recent site policy changes.

Apologies for the delay.  Thanks for hanging in there, everyone.

Cheers,

Trout

DC212 - Fall 1912 - Call And Answer - former.trout   (Jun 17, 2009, 12:38 am)
Heya folks,

The big get bigger, and the small get smaller...  If not annihilated.  Austria pulls the trigger on Italy this round, as Jimmy makes a valiant foray into the Tyrrhenian but simply gets shut down.  My thanks, Jimmy, for continuing to fight it out right till the bitter end.  =)

Meanwhile, both the larger two powers find themselves agonizingly close to the solo.  Can either take it?

No retreats are required from the Fall turn, although the French in Portugal and the aforementioned Italians in Naples find themselves vaporized...  Deadline for Winter 1912 adjustments will be set for Thursday, June 18th (11:59 PM GMT).

Please let me know if you see any errors.  Cheers!

DC212 - Fall 1912 - Late Orders - former.trout   (Jun 16, 2009, 12:46 am)
Heya gang,

My regrets but once again we have a late order set for the current turn.  Adjudication for Fall 1912 will be delayed until tomorrow night while I attempt to gather in the stray orders.  The player in question has been notified in a separate email.

Please note, however, that the player will be given an NMR for stats purposes, even though I am collecting their orders.  This is due to recent site policy change and is because of the fact that the orders are truly NOT received at deadline time.  Again, if anyone has an issue with this then please just let me know.

Cheers all.  Thanks for the patience.
