dc224 S21 - undead EOG - LadyDay   (Jul 03, 2010, 8:54 am)
Well, finally for the EOG of the smallest (and least alive) of the surviving powers.
I joined this game as a replacement for an unpromising position, at Trout's desperate request. There
was little time for negotiation, and the little that took place was inconclusive, so I kept my
predecessor's neutral prelims. My initial contacts were with my neighbors (Rogues, Trolls, Dwarves)
and the players I knew or thought I knew, like the Fairies. Sims explained that he had been working
with the Undead, but felt that the Undead owed him everything, and could never do enough to pay him
back. The fairies, on the other hand, were very positive and had interesting suggestions; if the
Rogue and Fairy positions were reversed, I would most probably have continued with that alliance.
However, Sims rapidly settled the issue with a brilliant one-center stab, so I joined the Dwarves.
Only to find that the Dwarves themselves were stabbed by their closest ally. Aii!
Luckily, I had started up conversation with the Ogres, who had joined the game one turn before me.
Hoffman had taken over a position in trouble, but with a lot of potential -- which he knew, since he
had played the first game and perhaps followed this one. He proved a very active, resourceful
diplomat, as well as an agreeable player to work with. When the Dwarves and Wizards split up, he
allied with the weaker of the two and took on the more formidable Wizards (as well as bringing the
Elves back into the fold), the proof of a confident, far-seeing diplomat. I joined with him, and
never regretted that decision.
My position was precarious as long as the Rogues and Trolls worked together, much better when the
Trolls stabbed the Rogues. I found Warren a pleasure to deal with once we started working together.
In fact, my only regret in this game was that, in response to Hoffman's urging, I stopped attacking
the Rogues and switched to join Sims against the Trolls. The idea was that Hoffman would join the
party rapidly, but it didn't work out that way. I really wish I had stayed on long enough to make
Sims entirely marginal. It would have given me a much solider position -- and probably have worked
out at least as well for the Ogres, too. And it would have been much more fun!
Well, that's the way of it, and I am glad that I ended up part of the draw. I had always voted for
the DIAS (surprise!); I still wonder who continued voting against it.
Garry Bledsoe a ?crit :
Well well. After much public, er...dialogue, we have peace at last.

A 6-way draw it is - Undead, Trolls, Rogues, Faeries, Ogres and Pirates.
Congrats to all and thanks for hanging in there. I must say I am sad to
see this one fizzle into a draw from a pure enthusiast perspective (I
thought for sure it had 3 or 4-way written all over it) but glad to be
done with it from a GM perspective (life is HECTIC right now).

I will get the site updated tonight and all of the center counts etc.
loaded so we can get this one final on the site!

Congrats again! I would love to see EGS's and would gladly post them to
the site! I will eventually get to one from the Elves.

Subject: dc224 W20 - A Long Long Winter Delay
Date: Tue, 22 Jun 2010 20:34:27 -0400

All apologies. Unfortunately real-life is taking its toll and I am
letting it affect my GMing and for that there is no excuse. I apologize.

I never published Winter. Here it is. I have Spring orders from many so
if everyone can confirm that their orders are FINAL I will move us
through Spring as soon as I receive that. If perchance I don't have
yours please mark them FINAL upon submission. In absence of the ability
to run them before that point, let's run these this Sunday the 27th at
6pm CST at the latest.

Oh...and as a reminder, there IS a DIAS on the table for your voting
pleasure.

Thanks for your patience.

Ogres Build A Krikkit and A Spirit Pond
Rogues Build A Telmar
Faeries Remove F East Mirianic Ocean

Subject: dc224 Aut20 - Troll Retreat; Winter and Spring Deadline Change
Date: Mon, 14 Jun 2010 09:06:25 -0400

All,
Sorry. I forgot about the Troll retreat. The F retreats to Far Far Away.
Adjustments required for Winter are as stated below. Due to the slip by
me, let's move our Winter to tomorrow (the 15th) and Spring to the 17th
(just adding a few days for some more finger-pointing).

*DIAS Proposal Fails*
*But Fret Not, There is a New DIAS Proposal for Spring 21*
*And, Since Slaughter is Officially Going to Be 21, I Guess It Can Drink
Leprechaun Ale!*
*Undead and Faeries Lose a Center to the Ogres (Although in the Ogres
Defense, One*
* WAS Previously an Ogre Center)*
*Some Confusion on the High Seas? (literally!)*

Well there is little of note that actually occurred. The majority of the
orders looked eerily familiar...

However, we do have the semi-annual excitement of the DIAS vote that
fails again and the like 13th one is proposed anew. And we
have confusion? on the High Seas as a Rogue ship gently bounces the
Trolls out and thus they require a *retreat*.

The High Seas can retreat to any number of places so just let me know
where they should go.

*Pending the receipt of the retreat of the High Seas, let's set
adjustments due by Friday June 11th at 6pm*. Ironically I will be going
to see Shrek that night...

Adjustments will be (assuming a Troll retreat in lieu of OTB):
Faeries remove 1
Rogues build 1
Ogres build 2

We will then move to *Spring with a deadline of the 15th of June at 6pm
CST.*
**
GM NOTE: I had a late request to move the deadline. I decided not to
because I did not get a requested date for the extension to end and I
could not hold up any more. I did NOT look at orders prior to making
that decision because I did not want my decision influenced.

DC224: Rogue EOG - offdisc   (Jun 29, 2010, 11:31 pm)
Don't normally comment on other people's EOGs, and I'll keep most of my comments between me and Mike, but I really hate it when people guess what other people did or didn't do.  Guessing "Why" a move is made (or not) is fine, but guessing about private votes is ridiculous!

Mike, I stated plain and clear in my EOG that I voted YES to every single DIAS vote.  I'd go so far as ask Garry to confirm this... even though I know he won't.  But I'd even be happy to post my last 6 seasons of "moves rec'vd" emails showing my votes.  So let's stop the finger-pointing and hope that the person who actually was voting NO will have the guts to step up in their EOG.

I'm happy w how the game played out, purely from a playtest
standpoint.  Tho the game was far from over - at 6 players, the game had
just begun!  There is so much action with 6 players, just look at
standard.  So much could have happened yet.

Taking
it from the start...

Things
went pretty well in opening negotiations.  The original 4-way was
TRUA.  Trolls, Rogues, Undead (Jacob), Archers (Rachael).  This
lasted a long time.  As a team, we took out the Magicians and were
getting set to face off against the North Pole alliance of the CKG.
(Centaurs, Knights, Gnomes).  This was going to be a long hard road, since
the Barbarians died out quickly, leaving CKG quite strong.  Then Rachael
got busy in RL and started missing turns, and dropped out, leaving us w a
broken team.  This is when the Faeries - originally marked for death,
became much more valueable.  I got pretty close to Mark, and together w
the Trolls, we faced off against the CKG, and eventually got some key
breakthrus and won out, defeating the Centaurs, leaving the Knights and Gnomes
stranded up in the corner, for the slow death.  (many thanks to Nick for
stepping in and putting up such a killer fight)  Thru all this, Mark and I
built up significant trust, since we had to operate in close quarters for a lot
of turns, always in prime position to stab the other.  We never did, we
stuck to our plan, and in time, eventually took out the Northern Triple.

In
the middle of the board, it was pretty chaotic (and lots of fun). Jacob our
original Undead player was nearly eliminated from the get-go, but Warren and I
managed to save him with a killer stab of the Magicians.  This was
risky.  I was essentially helping a bear to eat a tiger, for helping the
Trolls to take out the Magicians would jeopardize my own ability to exist on my
home continent, but since I held on to the choke points at Dargaard keep and
the upper peninsula, I took the risk.  This basically carried the 3 of us
(RFT) into the mid-game.

Along
the way, the Nomads went down after only a couple turns into the game, and they
were put on "random order mode" by our original GM Trout.  I
disliked this ruling cuz it didn't give the Nomads a chance to be played and
test the variant... Anyways, it worked out ok, since the random orders
didn't end up randomly against me, tho they very well could have.  This
was lucky on my part.  We finished off the Nomads.  This put me up
against the Dwarves / Matt.  Tough game here, a lot of jockeying for
position, etc.  I wanted to go past Matt and head south, but also wanted
to get into the Central Island.  When the Ogres stabbed him, it made the
decision easy.

Then
Jacob left, right after we saved him.  Never heard back from him, so I
wonder what happened.  Enter Suzanne and Hoffman (replacing Babak)
and the game went downhill.  What was previously a staunch ally, the new
Undead took the early stance that I should give them centers to equalize our
empires or we couldn't be allies.  That didn't really work, particularly
after I just risked my entire game to save the Undead.  All that
history lost in the change of leadership, the Undead set off on a long
campaign against me.

By
now, the Ogres were getting huge, having devoured most of the players on the
southern continent, methodically promising them salvation, then stabbing them
one at a time.  After a while, it got to be puzzling why players were
agreeing to work w the Ogres, just to be eaten up one after another.
Leprechauns, Hobbits, Magicians, Samurai, etc.  They fell like dominoes to
his magical "I won't stab YOU, really".  This put him on a surge
to over 1/3 of the centers on the map, till we could finally rally everyone
against him.  In a grand plan, the Elves, Wiz's, Dwarves, etc, were all
supposed to push back on the Ogres at once, but some players balked at it, and
the disjointed leftovers were quickly eaten up.  No, of course the Elves
should not have been a pawn for survival, they should have tried to stand up
and become an empire again.  It's too bad the small guys didn't stick
together, they could have done some major damage here.  I always love when
small players give it their best in an effort to jumpstart their empire.
Even if it doesn't always work.

Then,
Warren stabbed me.  This put an end to the stop-the-leader game, as I went
suddenly from 2nd place to nearly eliminated.  This is the closest Hoffman
came to soloing, cuz I was completely giving ground on the OU front, after all
the work that went into the setup to capture the Rainbow Lake.  I fell
back in a controlled fashion, pushing hard to get the Knights out so that Mark
and I could stand back to back.  During this time, I had to trust Mark
clear into the Tilva Strait, where he could have pillaged what was left of my
empire, and he didn't.  I really owed him for that, and so I wouldn't stab
him when the Ogres wanted me to, even tho I could have gutted him many times.

So
there I was about to be reduced to a small power surviving on 10 dots in the
north, and Suzanne came thru for me, and turned on the Trolls.  This was
ultimately the move that I think cost Hoffman his win, cuz I wasn't down far
enough yet.  I don't know quite why, but she had the ability to take the
Julianthes and force me some big disbands, and she passed it up.  (Perhaps
the Undead hearts grew three sizes that day  Smile  I think it was cuz
the Trolls were getting big too, and would have gotten most of my dots, while
the Undead, Faeries, and myself were starting to look small as what was left of
the resistance to the big 2.  So Suzanne really saved my game, turning on
the Trolls.  I think this annoyed Warren sufficiently that she flip
flopped, that he agreed to pull off the attack in its prime - right when he was
about to reach Telmar, my last holdout / build center.

Then, I
was saved.

<key
glorious music>

Hoffman
let Warren's pullback go one more turn to see if it was a trick, and when
realizing it was real and that Warren was not going to hand him a solo, Hoffman
then had no choice but to lay into him.  So he did, w a failed stab due to
a random Pirate cut of the attack on Never Never Land.  This made
it a dud, for he needed to get the critical naval build port and failed to
do so.

Then
we had a long game of slowly pushing the Ogres/Undead back, RFT vs OU, with
Pirates going back and forth.  Very successful, we pushed them clear back
to the southern continent, at which point I think everyone just got
bored.  I did the math, and nothing could have stopped us from taking out
the Pirates, getting into The Maw, Thunderhead, Terabithia, overrunning the
central island, and eventually then w those losses and removals, landing on the
southern continent.  I think Hoffman saw this coming, and so he
decided it was better to take the 6-way than risk losing to an RFT, and so finally
even H voted for the draw.  Mark wanted out a few turns ago, but as long
as Warren was anxious to play on then so was I, so when Warren eventually said
he could take it or leave it, so did I too.

Penner
and Suzanne, no doubt, were right to go for the DIAS, cuz that's the best they
could get.  No surprise here that they were totally pro-Draw.  Any
lesser draw would surely not include them.  But RFTO could have done
better -- to get at worst, an RFTO.  Don't see why this wasn't
enacted.  A 4-way is quite good, a 6-way draw in Dip games is pretty blah.
Still out of 19 players, and nearly eliminated, I'm happy to be alive and part
of it.

For
those interested, I voted yes sometimes, no other times.  It was
about 50/50.  I voted yes the times I copied Mark.
Therefore somoene else was voted down some of the draws, or they would have
passed long ago.  I figure it was Hoffman, as he said, he was trying
anything to get me and Mark to split up, and he was indeed trying this quite
regularly, asking me to stab the Faeries even after he'd complain about
the draw results.

As
for the test of the variant, it was quite fun to play on my own map.  It
was a blast.  Even better that I got to ride the wave of highs and lows,
and get a good feel for it.  It did affirm one of the design goals, that
no power be able to be indestructible like they can in Standard - i.e. no
stalemate lines.  Even tho the Ogres looked tough to invade, there are
only 32 centers between the southern continent and the underworld, which is not
enough to hold a perfect line.  Thus I would like to have played it out a
bit further, to possibly an RFT or RFO 3-way, or even an RFTO 4-way.

Many
thanks to Trout for offering to run it so I could try it out myself, and to
Garry for picking up the second half!  If anyone else wants to run such a challenging
game, I'll be the first to join.  Smile

he could take it or leave it, so did I too.

Penner
and Suzanne, no doubt, were right to go for the DIAS, cuz that's the best they

I figure it was Hoffman, as he said, he was trying
anything to get me and Mark to split up, and he was indeed trying this quite
regularly, asking me to stab the Faeries even after he’d complain about
the draw results.

As
for the test of the variant, it was quite fun to play on my own map.  It
was a blast.

If anyone else wants to run such a challenging
game, I’ll be the first to join.  Smile

DC224: Pirates EOG - Viper   (Jun 29, 2010, 1:20 pm)
Hey all... I'll step up to the plate with an EOG as well.

This was by far the most frustrating game I've had in the days I've been playing Dip.  Every time I thought I had an alliance of some sort they dissolved into nothing (or I broke them).  Right off the hop I had suspicions of the Trolls/Rogues/Magicians, so I set up an equal force of Pirates/Hobbits/Samurai.  When the T/R attacked Magicians, I thought "great, now the three of us can roll in there."  Alas, Hobbits and Samurai came to blows over the Enchanted Isles and I had to pick a side, so away with the Hobbits as I worked with the Wizards now.

All that time, the old Ogres and I had an overall plan that included working with Trolls for a while to take out the Undead, because he was really annoying at the first, then continue on to the north, but then Ogres and Undead
both changed hands and that plan evaporated.

Meanwhile, I was trying very hard to be on the good side of Suzanne with the Archers, but apparently none of my emails went through.  I was still convinced that P/A was the way to go, though, so I broke my alliance with the Wizards and betrayed him to the new Ogres.  Eventually, however, I had nowhere to go, so I attacked the Archers after all.  When they changed hands, it was too late and I was too far committed to that.

Then, Ogres started pushing me out of the south and Trolls started coming across the High Seas.  They tried to tell me they weren't working together, but I never bought that story.  So I gave up a few centres to them while still taking some from the Archers, which allowed me to shore up my defenses and hope to survive long enough for a survival in what I assumed would be a two-way draw.

Eventually Ogres became greedy (his words) and attacked
Trolls, at which point I was all for attacking the Trolls, but then this whole "end the game" thing started and everyone now wanted me to work with them... Ogres against the Faeries and R/F against Ogres.  I went with the Ogres because I had no chance of making significant progress into those southern lines.  But when I attacked Faeries and had my best chance of making headway there, Ogres lost Razors Edge and I called off the hounds, choosing to wait out the game from where I was.

So, that was the game from my perspective... I look forward to playing with (or against) you soon.

For the last time,

Hi All,
OK, I'll be the first to open his mouth.  Raise your hands in this comes as a surprise. Smile

What a fun, exciting game this was!!!  And congrats to all the remaining players for surviving and holding fast and true to their alliances.

This has been, by far, the most diplomatic game I've ever played.  Usually I gather between 100 - 130 messages during a Diplomacy game.  This game ended with 216 distinct threads, several of which had over 50 messages included.  Total message count is close to 500!  Some of the skew is due to the large number of players, but mostly it is due to the general diplomatic skills of the later players.

Funny to see how "predictive" the original emails were... in one of my first communiques (to the Wizards), I wrote:
> I want to build a strong defense against the Rogues, Trolls, and Pirates.
Pretty good for a cracked crystal ball!!!!

That outlined my strategy for the entire game.  I figured that if those 3 couldn't cross my borders, I'd be safe; which, after 28 turns and over 1 year of play, turned out to be the right strategy!

I joined the game in late April 2009, as Fall 06 was commencing, riding in on my horse exclaiming "The Light Brigade Cavalry has arrived".  I expected a bit of short play, simply holding onto the Ogre position as everyone else beat the heck out of me.  But the tide turned immediately with Suzanne stepping in for the Undead.  2 replacements starting at the same time?  Instant alliance!  I also reached out to all my neighbors, offering peace and friendship.  All responded the same, but the Elves immediately stepped up to fight.  My path was set.

The Wizard stepped forward first and offered information and support.  The Dwarves were straddling a fence, so I marked them as a target once I cleared the south continent.  The Underworld was the key to victory in game 1 of this map, so I knew the possibilities it held.

Taking out the Elves went a lot faster than expected -- not due to Garry's play, but due to everyone around him agreeing to the proposed split of his centers.  Within one turn, Elves went from a secure position to barely hanging on.  So, knocked down to 2 centers, Garry jumped on my offer to keep him alive and turned against the Wizards.

Now, at the time, Max and I had a cordial relationship.  But he'd also been passing secrets to Garry, and when Garry agreed to join me, I saw how far Max had gone as a double-agent.  He was immediately marked for death --- and I'm fairly certain he wasn't surprised.  Wizards also turned out to be harder to kill off than expected, and I chased him all over the lower map!  In the process, I tried to end the Pirate/Archer war and bring the Pirates in to assist against the Wiz.  This allowed my units to ride next to Cap'n Penner's borders and set up an attack, but it also may have been the begining of the end for my Solo possibilities.

By the end of 08, Elves were down to bare bones, Wizards were controlled and about to fall --- and Sims was already expressing fears that I was trying to Solo, even though he still had more centers than I did and a strong alliance with the Trolls, holding the second-most centers,

Next up were the Dwarves and trying to force a wedge between Trolls and Rogues.  Suzanne and I were still in close contact, but had stopped coordinating attacks.  Nigel took over for the Archers and we began working together against the R/T/F alliance.  Knights also tried to join, but were in really bad shape up north.  Breaking R/F soon became my sole focus -- unfortunately, I never accomplished it and they became an unbreakable force.

By Fall 12, Elves had tried to flip sides (still not sure what Garry was thinking... and seeing how Suzanne ended up surviving, I wonder if he regrets his stab?) and were killed off.  The Dwarves were done, and Warren and I controlled the Underworld.  The wedge had just been forced between Rogues and Trolls, and Rogues began their push on me to alliance.  However, we immediately had disagreements on the state of the board and the future strategy.  2 cases in point: Rogues attacks on Knights prevented me from pushing into Dragon's Teeth and escaping the Underworld; Ogres support of Undead and reluctance to change her focus to Trolls.  Rogues were already obsessed at knocking out Trolls and Undead.

Of course, I couldn't admit to Rogues that I had been working with the Trolls!  But I also wasn't directing Suzanne against Rogues.  In fact, as I was trying to convince Trolls to stab Rogues, I was working on Suzanne to attack Trolls.  My goal was instability in that arena, and the ability to keep all 3 powers fighting each other while I moved in to take out any (or all) who fell far behind.

Maybe I pushed too hard though.  Because when Suzanne did finally turn towards the Rogues, the Trolls gave up their fight.  I'm still not entirely sure what I could have done differently in that area, except join forces with Rogues -- which just seemed impossible because of the obvious support he was giving to all my other enemies.  But as it turned out, all the powers involved were part of the final draw.

On the other side of the board, I began my crusade against the Pirates.  Working with Trolls, we kept the pressure and knocked the Pirates back pretty far.  And then I got greedy!  Suzanne had been pushing against the Trolls, but screaming for me to help her.  I viewed the Pirates as the bigger threat for the moment.  The Rogues executed a great move against the Suzanne, and the Undead broke ranks.  Maybe she thought I was setting her up for a fall (maybe I was!) and wouldn't support her.  In any case, at the exact moment I turned and stabbed the Trolls -- forcing them into a lasting peace with Rogues -- Suzanne stopped fighting them.  Ugh!

Well, that was that.  Warren missed moves in Fall 16, and jumped to support Rogues.  My growth had hit 34 centers to Sim's 21, but R/F/T was an unbreakable team -- they controlled the outer edges of the lower board, the Underworld's northern exits, and the middle oceans.  My only chance was to convince the Pirates to break the Fairy line.  Good for Sims!  He worked his magic and Pirates immediately fell back to supporting the Faeries instead of attacking.

Once Pirates made their intention clear, I began submitting DIAS votes.  I missed one season, but all others were submitted by me (and possibly other players as well).  I voted YES to all of them, but thus began the Sims/Hoffman finger-pointing sessions.  I even went so far as to send in a list of Draw votes including everyone EXCEPT me -- but I voted NO to all of those -- to make it seem as if everyone else also wanted to end the game.  Thought maybe it would convince the holdout(s) to change their votes.  That strategy backfired!  So my next strategy was to convince everyone to simply HOLD positions.  Thanks to Penner and Suzanne who came through on that.  Once Sims & I stopped yelling at each other, I fell back into a "pull back" strategy to signal that I was totally onboard with the DIAS.  Maybe my last pull-backs were enough to convince the holdout of my intention to end the game, or maybe they finally became as bored as the rest of us.  Whichever, the draw was finally passed.

Overall, this was a fantastic game!  I would have liked a smaller draw at the end, but I let my loyalty to Suzanne sway my judgement and I'm glad for that.  A 5-way is no better than a 6-way really, and I never trusted Rogues to attack the Fairies if I took out the Undead.  No reason to destroy a great working relationship for one less draw participant.  But I give tons of credit to Sims for pushing HARD for the stab, and look forward to playing with him in a future game!  (Hopefully *with* and not *against* him!  I could do with less arguing! Smile )  I also look forward to facing off against ALL of you in the future!

Yes, it could have been a smaller draw after several more months of play
but why bother? It was a draw regardless. Only Hoffman had winning
chances left and then only if the Rogues and Faeries fought each other.

Good game all.

I never published Winter. Here it is. I have Spring orders from many so if everyone can confirm that their orders are FINAL I will move us through Spring as soon as I receive that. If perchance I don't have yours please mark them FINAL upon submission. In absence of the ability to run them before that point, let's run these this Sunday the 27th at 6pm CST at the latest.

  WAS Previously an Ogre Center)

Some Confusion on the High Seas? (literally!)

Well there is little of note that actually occurred. The majority of the orders looked eerily familiar...

However, we do have the semi-annual excitement of the DIAS vote that fails again and the like 13th one is proposed anew. And we have confusion? on the High Seas as a Rogue ship gently bounces the Trolls out and thus they require a retreat.

The High Seas can retreat to any number of places so just let me know where they should go.

Pending the receipt of the retreat of the High Seas, let's set adjustments due by Friday June 11th at 6pm. Ironically I will be going to see Shrek that night...

Adjustments will be (assuming a Troll retreat in lieu of OTB):
Faeries remove 1
Rogues build 1

Ogres build 2

We will then move to Spring with a deadline of the 15th of June at 6pm CST.

GM NOTE: I had a late request to move the deadline. I decided not to because I did not get a requested date for the extension to end and I could not hold up any more. I did NOT look at orders prior to making that decision because I did not want my decision influenced.

dc224 S21 - Close the Book on Storytime! The Slaug... - garry.bledsoe   (Jun 28, 2010, 9:22 am)
Well well. After much public, er...dialogue, we have peace at last.

A 6-way draw it is - Undead, Trolls, Rogues, Faeries, Ogres and Pirates. Congrats to all and thanks for hanging in there. I must say I am sad to see this one fizzle into a draw from a pure enthusiast perspective (I thought for sure it had 3 or 4-way written all over it) but glad to be done with it from a GM perspective (life is HECTIC right now).

I will get the site updated tonight and all of the center counts etc. loaded so we can get this one final on the site!

Congrats again! I would love to see EGS's and would gladly post them to the site! I will eventually get to one from the Elves.

YEA!!!!!  Now we can bask in the free time found by not having to read the constant bickering of Mike & Mike!  (And I get the free time of not having to write anymore!) Smile

Great game, All!   EOG upcoming.

All apologies. Unfortunately real-life is taking its toll and I am letting it affect my GMing and for that there is no excuse. I apologize.

I never published Winter.

Oh...and as a reminder, there IS a DIAS on the table for your voting pleasure.

Thanks for your patience.

I am happy to see this go, as I am convinced that if it was any less than six-way, I would not be part of it.  I will send in an EGS as soon as I remember the game.

Yeah!!!

Yes, it could have been a smaller draw after several more months of play but why bother?  It was a draw regardless.  Only Hoffman had winning chances left and then only if the Rogues and Faeries fought each other.

Good game all.

Cheers,

Mark

I'm with Mark here. if Hoffman or anyone else still thought that they could make the solo, it would
be worth waiting for. But otherwise, why drag it out, just to whittle down the draw?

For the record, I might not have held across the board if I'd had time to actually put in orders.  I was on my way out the door to spend a week away from home when I realize that if I NMR'd that my vote would be a no... so I at least got that in.

As for the other two Mikes, I don't think either of you will change any of our opinions any more.  I wouldn't bother to hazard a guess as to which one is voting down the DIAS, but I don't care any more... and any number of emails to everyone won't make me care an ounce higher.  For the sake of everyone's sanity and time, let's please end it now.

Mike, I'm sure you understand the voting process.  Whatever you say here (whatever I say) clealry doesn't matter, thus I came up w a way to prove you would not go for a DIAS if one were presented in a way that the voting could be taken out of the picture.

And I will reiterate: if you had ever come up with a plan that didn't involve me allowing every other country to run rampant across my home centers, I'd have approved it.  You didn't -- you came up with a plan that left both Suzanne and I vulnerable to your good graces and trusting you on your word. HA!

So, I did what I said I would: I moved Pwyll over to GGL and never attack Raz again.  My line is drawn, and Pwyll is safe.
On the other hand, you also did exactly what you said you would do: you attacked Skel and now sit there and Uhl.

Are we just as safe now as we would have been if I had pulled Pwyll?  NO.... but we're safer.  Everyone is.  So why can't we force that same draw you talked about?

I don't see how it can "force" a draw, and I never did.  That's why I suggested just voting YES right then and there.  Same as I'm suggesting right now.

Still trying to recall when I dismissed this proposed DIAS you suggested.  I seem to recall something about giving up GGL, letting Faerie fleets sail down into RoD, give up any claims to the Underworld, and possibly throw in my first-born child.  Not sure what surprised you when I said that wasn't so much a plan for a DIAS but a plan for the "death of the Ogres".

Anyway, I never suggested that your "advance" had anything to do with the center you gained.  It didn't.  But an unexpected attack on the High Seas?  Now that *IS* aggressive.

I also never asked you to stab either the Trolls or the Faeries --- at least not this time. Smile  I said I was perfectly happy with the current 6-way, but if you came up with a plan for a 2-way or 3-way that didn't involve me inviting everyone to tea in my home centers, I'd be willing to listen.  You don't want to give away your strategies, so no plan will be made.

So just Vote YES already and let's put this game into the history books.

Interesting!  Faeries basically hold, Pirates *actually* hold, Trolls secure their line but get hit, Undead retreats behind Ogre lines, and Ogres secure their lines.  Who advanced this turn???  I wonder who's voting NO to the DIAS!
(Oh, and Suzanne gave me full permission to take Caer)

DIAS resubmitted, and YES vote attached.  Hope we can now all follow suit and end this game already.

DIAS Proposal Fails

But Fret Not, There is a New DIAS Proposal for Spring 21

And, Since Slaughter is Officially Going to Be 21, I Guess It Can Drink Leprechaun Ale!

Undead and Faeries Lose a Center to the Ogres (Although in the Ogres Defense, One

Garry

Right, it wouldn't be Storytime w/o the ceremonial throwing up of arms by Hoffman.

I love your arguments Mike.  Ogres take 2 centers and it's "securing their lines".  Rogues take one center publicly stated, and it's "advanced".

What would you have me do?  Do you want everyone to order Holds?  I'm going to order my units, and you are going to order yours.

Oh yeah, and this message you post?  It comes 10 minutes after you write me 4 paragraphs privately going over how you want me to suggest moves to stab the Trolls and Faeries and get a 2-way.  Offer the world, give nothing, get someone to stab somoene.  It is a good strategy Mike, tho now it's just boring and repetitive.

Once you refused the DIAS I suggested that we could have actually forced thru, I think this whole strategy of yours lost its impact.

Mike, go back and read it, this is a waste of time.  Email, titled "an idea".  You replied something along the lines of "what kind of plan is that" even tho it would have involved me *not* taking Suzanne's last home center, you not taking more from the Faeries, and us forcing a DIAS thru in 2 years flat.  2 more turns now and we'd be there if you had wanted it, and nothing could have prevented it.

You scoffed it away and went back to pointing fingers.

"HA".  Right.

DIAS Fails (as does the DIAS for the Elves)

The Undead Fall Back

Some Repositioning?

Ogres Take Back Great Glacier Lake

All,

Yet again an interesting turn. I am very intrigued to see what comes of Slaughter at Storytime.

Our DIAS fails again and, yes, another IS proposed for Fall voting. As a side note, it is appreciated that some of you voted for the Elven Front for Unholy Inclusion in a DIAS (E-FUN for short). However, I fear that the statute of limitations on Elven resurrection has passed and they will stay truly dead. It is also noted that the "secret spell" that the Wizards cast before being killed off failed when the GM rolled a 6 so they will not be magically apparating in any future DIAS proposals either!

We had no retreats needed this turn so we move to Fall without delay. Our deadline for Fall 20 is June 8th at 6pm CST. Please remember to vote yes or no for the new DIAS.

Garry

dc224 W19 - The Prelude to the Roaring Twenties - garry.bledsoe   (May 27, 2010, 10:55 pm)
Well, for all of the chatter, we should see an interesting Spring. We have the following action for Winter:

Trolls Build an A in Niflheim and a F in Kahvi

Rogues Build an A in Ashan and a F in Julianthes

Pirates Build a F in the Neverwood

Faeries Build a F in Ella

Ogres Remove A in Fitzgibbon

It would seem that my need to add commentary is dwindling...the Mikes have more than made up for my poor attempts at entertainment. Magic missile? Come on that's funny.

Shameless plug - remember your Elven friends and vote yes for the DIAS + Elves! (sounds like a vitamin)

Seriously...remember that Spring 20 is June 1st and that you need to vote yea or nea to the DIAS.

Garry

dc224 Fall 19 Results - More Time, More Chapters,... - garry.bledsoe   (May 25, 2010, 9:47 pm)
BUT, the Ogres Do Lose Two Centers as Do the Undead

The Trolls, Rogues and Faeries Advance

The Ogres Ring the Southern Continent Coastal Spaces With Defense

The Pirates Seem Content to Parlay and Shore Up the Homeland Security

A New DIAS Is Proposed for Spring (as well as a DIAS + ELVES!)

Attention All Warring Races (and you Peaceful Ones Too!),

War has continued through 38 grueling chapters. Along the way we have lost many fun (and some annoying) races. Who can ever forget the Leprechauns and their antics? Who can forget the valiant Knights in their hopeless quest to defend the northern reaches? Who can forget the Nomads with their...oh...wait, they never played.

Anyway - another Fall and more action as war continues. We missed out on the pleasure of any EGP's for the Fall {sigh} but never fear! we have a DIAS for the Spring and a DIAS plus Elves. For those who wish to humor, vote YES to the Elfen DIAS. Only one of you has to vote no and a lot of yes votes would sure put the author of this epic comic tragic classic in a good frame of mind.

But we jump too far ahead my readers.

First, we had one retreat: A Skullcap can only retreat to Istar or OTB. I auto-retreated it to Istar. IF Suzanne wishes it can go OTB and build an extra unit in the Winter.

That said, we move to Winter adjustments:

Faeries: Build 1

Ogres: Remove 1

Pirates: Build 1

Rogues: Build 2

Trolls: Build 2

Undead: Build 1 (unless A Sku retreats OTB)

Winter adjustments are due Thursday May 27th at 6pm CST. We will have Spring20 on Tuesday June 1 at 6pm CST. EGP votes are due THEN.

Remember, a vote for Elves is a vote for exiled Freedom, Hope and BiPartisanship (between exiled Elves and sacked llamas).

Please write with any concerns.

Elven Leader, Llama Lackey,

Garry
