DC309 Spring 1909 Results - Game Over - ndeily   (Oct 20, 2010, 3:55 pm)
I am in on the condition that it's on the blitz schedule.

Yeah. The 7 way draw was awful. We had two replacement players by the end of 1902, and one NMR and delay after another. We just all hated it and cut our losses.

I'm good with a game if we want to do quick deadlines. I don't even mind GMing, but I do like playing, so I guess I'd do whatever someone else didn't want to. But yeah, maybe even like Blitz schedule speed. One game year per week. That would put us close to 10 game years in by the time the blitz started. I'd be in.

7 way?  That sounds like a bad porno.

I'm of the opinion that if you can't at least narrow it down to three people, you've kinda wasted a bunch of time.  Though, with a 7 way draw, I'm
assuming very little time was wasted.

I'm only in one other game right now, and I see no obstacles to me soloing that one (Hi John!).  So I'm ready to go.  But I understand people have stuff to do.  I can handle a brisk pace, or I can say farewell to y'all until after the Blitz.  Unless I see you in the Blitz.  In which case, I'd be saying farewell until the Blitz.  How about this...

Farewell until (after) the Blitz.  Unless we play a brisk game.  Crap.

Ooh. good point on the blitz. I'm already in two pretty intense games, and I plan to gm and play in the blitz. At the same time, since we all know each other now, these games require a little less "foundational" diplomacy. So I'm good with whatever...

My only concern is that we're headed right into the holidays, which might prove quite disruptive to the mid game when all the action's really happening. If we could commit to a really brisk schedule it could work, but I want to be sure I leave a slot for Winter Blitz when that starts.

Well, there was definitely something about this game that got under my skin.  I'm always
frustrated by large draws.  They strike me as cowardly.  But, I'm always ready for a rematch with this group.

Hey All,

After nine years, a compromise to end the war in Europe has finally been reached. The governments of France, Austria, Italy and Russia have agreed to a four way draw. However, the proposal to reveal past votes fails. I have it on good authority that the reason for past draw failures will be revealed now that hostilities have ended.

Thanks to everyone for playing! It was fun to watch you all duke it out - especially after having just played with many of you!

I usually publish EOGs a week after a game I'm running ends. If you want to do it that way, send your thoughts to me, and I'll send everybody's out next Wednesday. Alternatively, you can all start broadcasting now!

I'll send some of my thoughts out later on. The pregnant wife wants to watch TV!

Best,

Mike

At least it was a smaller draw than that crazy 7-way standard game draw I had a few games back. Funny story about that...

Anyway, So that's Phil and me. Anyone else up for some more punishment?

Well, there was definitely something about this game that got under my skin.  I'm always frustrated by large draws.  They strike me as cowardly.  But, I'm always ready for a rematch with this
group.

Best,

Mike

I unfortunately have to be out this time. My wife's having our first child in January and I've got a lot of things to do to get ready for that. Trust me, I'd rather be playing dip than doing home renos, but you gotta do what you gotta do!

Hi All,

First of all, many thanks and kudos to Mike for GMing.  Excellent job.

The game was fairly straight forward in my opinion.  In the west the RFG alliance got off to a great start hitting Andy.  A stab by Ray a few years in made me nervous, but it wasn't until Phil popped into Bur and more dangerously Sean stabbed and turned entirely my way as part of a clear AI alliance.  Things also looked very grim as (if I recall correctly) Andy and Ray were also working together.  From this F vs. EGIA perspective I am quite happy to have ended in the draw, it was really the dark before the dawn

However, shortly after that Andy, Ray and I were talking a survival alliance against the southern powers as the AI looked a bit too strong. But I didn't like my chances against an advancing Italy without another area to expand, so I think I made what was
for me the decision of the game to turn on both Ray and Andy in an effort to eliminate Andy and claim his corner spot in hopes of sharing in the AIF draw as the smaller corner guy.  Things worked out quite well here and Andy was out in a few turns.

At some point in there Phil turned on Sean for the solo, but as we all know came up just shy of the prize.  This cemented the FRI resistance for the stalemate.

Now here is where I think it should have turned into a FRI three-way as we could have easily eliminated Phil with the naval advantage we had in the south.  But Sean backed off by deleting the army in Turkey and that pretty much was it.

John and I shared a common objective for most of the game and I much appreciated our alliance.  Let us forget the ugly incident in the last few moments of the game when I tried to oust him and clumsily included him in my betrayal e-mail  Smile  In my mind it could have
turned into a FIA alliance but Phil was understandably unwilling to back off his advantage and was also in for the 4-way.

With no prospects for a 3-way and a certain Austrian solo if I attacked John or Sean the 4-way set in.

Great game all, I had lots of fun.  And I'd probably be up for one more if the board is getting back together.

Dan

an advancing Italy without another area to expand, so I think I made what was for me the decision of the game to turn on both Ray and Andy in an effort to eliminate Andy and claim his corner spot in hopes of sharing in the AIF draw as the smaller corner guy.

Let us forget the ugly incident in the last few moments of the game when I tried to oust him and clumsily
included him in my betrayal e-mail  Smile  In my mind it could have turned into a FIA alliance but Phil was understandably unwilling to back off his advantage and was also in for the 4-way.

With no prospects for a 3-way and a certain Austrian solo if I attacked John or Sean the 4-way set in.

Great game all, I had lots of fun.  And I'd probably be up for one more if the board is getting back together.

Dan

Best,

Mike

Actually Sean, the quote I'm referring to is:

"I was always taught that you stab when your victim is losing SCs. I will be down a max of one am now publicly stating that I will be pulling all of my fleets off the Western front and
won't be stopping until Constantinople is mine. Dan, John, you got your wish guys - I'm onboard with taking Austria down."

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that if you took Constantinople, I would have been in trouble.  Smile

Well, I certainly won't apologize for holding up the ending of this game by a couple of extra turns.  With all of Sean's trash talking about how he was going to wipe me off the face of the board, I had to give him the opportunity to try.  Fortunately for everyone, except me obviously, you three held together.  So, you guys have fun bashing me for turning the screws on your impromptu alliance.  I just had to see what would happen.

Guys,

I know Phil wishes it was me that had said I'd wipe him
off the board, but my exact words were that: "You have now sealed the end of
your game. You will be able to wound me - take a SC here and there, but I will
be giving France full rein to push into your middle whilst you struggle to deal
with the fleets that will pour back East. Never stab in the spring... position,
position, position." Prophetic huh? Your
game ended on that turn when you dove one turn too early for the solo and ended
up with a four way draw. If Phil had stuck to the agreement we
shared, he probably could have soloed by grabbing Dan and John SCs faster
than I could keep up, as it was, a four way draw is probably the best he
could have hoped for - if Dan hadn't shown himself to be such an awesome player
I might have trusted him enough to have pushed to take Turkey off the board
and out of the draw.

Phil, no worries about the voting down of the draw, you
had to hope that one of us got as greedy as you did! *grin*

Actually Sean, the quote I'm referring to is:

"I was always taught that you stab when your victim is
losing SCs. I will be down a max of one am now publicly stating that I will be
pulling all of my fleets off the Western front and won't be stopping until
Constantinople is mine. Dan, John, you got your wish guys - I'm onboard with

Best,

Mike

My only concern is that we're headed right into the holidays, which might prove quite disruptive to the mid game when all the action's really happening. If we could commit to a really brisk schedule it could work, but I want to be sure I leave a slot for Winter Blitz when that starts.

Well, there was definitely something about this game that got under my skin.  I'm always frustrated by large draws.  They strike me as cowardly.  But, I'm always ready for a rematch with this

Ooh. good point on the blitz. I'm already in two pretty intense games, and I plan to gm and play in the blitz. That would put me at 5 games for round one, and if some of those overlap round two I could have up to 7. that would not be fun. At the same time, since we all know each other now, these games require a little less "foundational" diplomacy. So I'm good with whatever...

7 way?  That sounds like a bad porno.

I'm of the opinion that if you can't at least narrow it down to three
people, you've kinda wasted a bunch of time.  Though, with a 7 way draw,
I'm assuming very little time was wasted.

I'm only in one other game right now, and I see no obstacles to me
soloing that one (Hi John!).  So I'm ready to go.  But I understand
people have stuff to do.  I can handle a brisk pace, or I can say
farewell to y'all until after the Blitz.  Unless I see you in the
Blitz.  In which case, I'd be saying farewell until the Blitz.  How
about this...

Farewell until (after) the Blitz.  Unless we play a brisk game.  Crap.

Crap.

My only concern is that we're headed right into the holidays, which might prove quite disruptive to the mid game when all the action's really happening. If we could commit to a really brisk schedule it could work, but I want to be sure I leave a slot for Winter Blitz when that starts.

Best,

Mike

I'd be in.

DC309 Spring 1909 deadline reminder - mtombu   (Sep 14, 2010, 7:35 am)
Hey All,
Orders are due tomorrow at 9 pm ET. Remember to also vote on the FAIR draw proposal as well as on the proposal to release voting information for the recent failed draw proposals. Also remember that we are now one year into the two year period without substantive change required to force a DIAS draw. Baring a change in circumstance (dislodgment, SC change or other development that implies the latter is forthcoming) the game will be declared a draw at the end of this game year. Mark your orders final and I'll adjudicate early!

Best,
Mike

Best,

Mike
