Well I think that rule clears it up. Good find. So the unit is not dislodged at all (as opposed to dislodged but not forced to retreat)...

The support is valid, and Boh-Vie should succeed.

I think this is a RP glitch, because the moves should never be ordered that way, save by mistake. In EVERY case, Russia is better off simply ordering Rum S Gal, instead of Rum S Ukr-Gal -- If his goal is to preserve Gal by supporting Ukr into it, he should just support it directly instead.

Given this, I bet it was just never thought of that anyone would ever do a self standoff to try to protect a country that's not moving anyways... Self-Standoffs like that are typically used when you plan to MOVE Gal instead. Thus it was probly just never even considered in writing the logic.

I guess I can think of some extremely rare cases where it could be used in game...

Say the Rumanian is Turkish. Turkey will agree to support Ukr-Gal, but not agree to just support Gal directly (he wants Russia to move away from him) so Russia tells him he's moving Gal-Vie (with support from Germany) and Ukr-Gal (with support from Turkey).

Then Russia goes BAM (Emeril style) and instead, orders the support for Boh-Vie, and uses the Turk support to create a standoff in Gal... thereby helping the German, and well... not sure what it does for himself.

Note, Russia could have just ordered Ukr S Gal, but say he was expecting a pesky Englishman who took Warsaw to order War-Ukr, so he knows Ukr cannot support. Thus he uses the support from Turkey, and the fact that his own move of Ukr-Gal does not cut his own support, and this scenario has now existed in a real game.

Re: Cutting Support Where It Shouldn't - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)

Looks as though you found an RP glitch. Interesting. Wonder who we would notify about this...

You should probably post in the RPforum (I think that is the spelling) yahoogroup.

Nemesis? Hah! The rule is pretty clear that the suppport is not cut by an attack from the province to which the support is being given, and here the unit is not being dislodged, it is remains in its province due to the beleaguered garrison rule.

My understanding is (and perhaps it is because i play a lot of variants), although I dont have anywhere near the experience of my nemesis.. Mr Cohen..

The 'beleagured garrison' rule is in effect that the unit does not have to retreat because it is attacked by 2 opposing attacks of equal strength.

It does not imply that the unit still retains it's supporting power bceause it is under attack. It merely does not have to retreat. I'd call this a soft hold because i've been talking to Kornel too much.

116 stalemate - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey all,

From my talks with Russia and England, it is apparent neither will stab the other. So what say you we call this DIAS, and I free up my schedule to join a new game? I’ve proposed a DIAS for the next turn. If it’s voted down, then we know Russia or England are hoping for more than a draw. If it passes, then they see the stalemate line that will exist once England takes Portugal and I support Italy at the TYS stalemate line. However I believe neither Russia nor England will make a move on the other, and we are therefore locked. Given my bad position, I’m not going to stab. If nobody else is, then let’s call this one.

Thanks,

DC-129 In Rainbows - Fall 1905 - Where I End And Y... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And I'm sorry for us
The dinosaurs roam the earth
The sky turns green
Where I end and you begin

----------------------------------------------

Hi folks,

With France's help, England actualy does succeed into Kiel this turn - disbanding the German army there. (See, I wasn't incorrect last turn I was just fortelling the future.. *grin*) The Scandinavias remain as stale-mated as they were in the Spring and in the south, the Sultan pushes his way into Trieste.

One retreat and one automatic disband stem from the Fall orders - both mentioned above. The German force in Kiel was annhilated, and the Austrian army in Trieste had only Tyrolia to fall back to so I took the liberty. (Tanel, if OTB is preferred then please just let me know.)

To address the scheduling of the next few turns we do have a slight problem. Our good Arch-duke will be travelling for the next couple weeks and will be without internet access. I'm hoping that he can submit Winter orders and Spring 06 prelims before he leaves, however. I've tentatively set the Winter 05 deadline for just under a weeks time for Tuesday, February 5th (11:59 PM GMT). The Spring 06 turn will follow a week later and hopefully, that will take us through the period in question.

Cheers folks. Please let me know if I've erred at all.

Trout

DC-114 Fall 1909 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fall 1909 left us without a retreat for the second straight turn. Italy is eliminated. Thank you Italy for playing out the game. Builds/Disbands are below. I won't make builds & disbands due until Monday Night 10pm Central 2/4/08 as I have standing plans to drive up to Green Bay and watch the Super Bowl with my faimly despite the criminal lack of Packers.

One player submitted draw proposals late. Those proposals are not being offered here. However, any timely proposals sent by the Monday deadline will be presented for a vote at the time of Spring 1910 orders. The results of any such political votes take effect before any pieces actually move in the Spring 1910. I will point everyone to the House Rules, specifically #s 11 - 13, for guidance on such proposals. A draw vote will need to be unanimous with only 4 countries left.

Charter Of The Companions - Back-Thumps R Us! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fellow Knights,

Once again, members of our group have braved the rifts and high-tides of the board and emerged on the other side. Congratulations to Sir Mikael for his effort in DC-137 and his new promotion to the first of the named ranks, the Order Of The Parchment.

Also, your humble Trout has been promoted to Knight Captain for the completion of the same game, DC-137.

Nice work, Mikael!

Sir Former Trout
Knight Captain of the Companions

Two draw proposals have been submitted. In your spring 1910orders submit votes on both proposals concerncing the substance of the vote and on whether to publish each country's vote per House Rules 12 & 13. If both proposals pass, the first proposal will be the successful proposal as it was submitted first. Any successful proposal will immediately take effect and will end the game before Spring 1910moves are adjudicated.

Proposal 1: 4-way draw between England, Frace, Russia & Turkey

Proposal 2: 3-way draw between England, Russia & Turkey w/ French survivorship

For either proposal to pass the vote will have to be unanimous. A single 'no' vote will kill either measure. Pursuant to House Rule 13, 2/3s or 3 of the remaining countries voting 'yes' for publication will be necessary to publish the votes. Spring 1910orders and draw proposal votes are due 11pm day February 9th.
