And where does the Turk fit into all of this?

Welcome to the twenty-first edition of your indisputable Catalan Chronicle!

If you've recovered enough from the happy news*, then how about some moves:

France:
F Brest - Mid-Atlantic Ocean
A Paris - Picardy

Your next deadline is the Winter adjustments and press, and will be 2000GMT Tuesday 23 July.

Adjustments due:

Austria:   Supp  2 Unit  3 Remove  1
England:   Supp  8 Unit  6 Build  2

France:    Supp  3 Unit  5 Remove  2
Germany:   Supp  7 Unit  6 Build  1
Italy:     Supp  6 Unit  6 Build  0
Russia:    Supp  7 Unit  5 Build  2
Turkey:    Supp  1 Unit  2 Remove  1

And here's some exciting news from across the Continent:

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

England
to Germany: Hope you're not too concerned about the Swedish bounce.  I
thought it prudent to bounce, and now we can worry about finishing off
the French!

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia to Italy:  With my two builds and the demise if the Turks &
Austrians we are in great shape to force a stalemate line.  That would
leave us with a 4-way at the very worst. Might also force an E vs G and
we get in on the 3-way.  Capice?

Russia to England & Italy:  Alternatively, quickest way to the end
this is to collapse the center and proclaim an IRE.  Who's in for
IRE-land?

Welcome to the twentieth edition of your insufferable Catalan Chronicle!

After polling our loyal readership about the frequency of moves, it seems that our former publication deadline of one-game-year-per-week was a bit difficult for all of our correspondents to adhere to, particularly when trying to file weekend copy. Therefore we'll be shifting to a more leisurely one-major-season-per-week schedule from here on in. Major season deadlines will be Mondays 2000GMT from now on (except tomorrow), and minor season deadlines Tuesday or Wednesday (depending upon retreats before winter adjustments).

Here's the moves for Autumn 1904:

Austria:
A Bohemia - Vienna (*Fails*)
A Budapest - Trieste (*Bounce*)

A Serbia Supports A Budapest - Trieste

England:
F Barents Sea - Norway (*Fails*)
F English Channel Supports A Picardy - Brest
F Irish Sea - Liverpool
F Mid-Atlantic Ocean - Portugal
F Norway - Sweden (*Bounce*)

A Picardy - Brest

France:
F Brest Hold (*Dislodged*)
A Marseilles Hold
F North Atlantic Ocean - Clyde
A Paris Supports F Brest (*Dislodged*)
F Tunis Hold

Germany:
A Berlin - Silesia
A Burgundy Supports A Gascony - Paris

F Denmark - Sweden (*Bounce*)
A Gascony - Paris
A Munich Supports A Berlin - Silesia
A Prussia - Livonia (*Bounce*)

Italy:
F Albania Supports A Tyrolia - Trieste
F Greece Hold
A Piedmont - Marseilles (*Fails*)

F Trieste - Adriatic Sea
A Tyrolia - Trieste (*Bounce*)
A Vienna, no move received

Russia:
A Armenia - Ankara (*Bounce*)
F Baltic Sea - Livonia (*Bounce*)
A Bulgaria - Rumania
F Constantinople Supports A Armenia - Ankara (*Cut*)

A Warsaw - Livonia (*Bounce*)

Turkey:
F Aegean Sea - Constantinople (*Fails*)
A Smyrna - Ankara (*Bounce*)

Two retreats are due, both from France:

French F Brest can retreat to Mid-Atlantic Ocean or Gascony.
French A Paris can retreat to Picardy.

The deadline for the retreats, and for any press you would like to send
before the winter adjustments, is tomorrow 2000GMT - that's Monday 22 July. Winter adjustments and press will be 2000GMT Tuesday 23 July.

I'd love to bring you our usual round-up of reports from around the Continent, but we haven't received any telegrams or letters due to a strike at the Barcelona post office. Therefore we have to complete this edition of the Chronicle at this point.

This concludes our latest edition of the Catalan Chronicle,
we
hope you've enjoyed reading it. Please do send in your news stories,
thoughts, dreams, ambitions, and reviews, however mendacious, for us all
to enjoy.

Your next deadline is  Autumn 04, retreat and press on Monday 22 July 2000GMT. Winter 04
adjustments and press will be 2000GMT Tuesday 23 July.

*Armies raised in Berlin and Venice!*

*Belgian chef available for hire!*

*Leeds fans never change!*

*Reports received of aquatic ranidaphobic atrocities!*

Welcome to the seventeenth edition of your inscrutable Catalan Chronicle!

Here's your builds:

Germany:
Build A Berlin

Italy:
Build A Venice

And we have some press from our correspondents across the Continent for you to enjoy:

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON-The Belgian chef of the Royal Household has been fired following
an unfortunate incident involving an improperly cooked waffle.  No
report has reached our correspondents about the precise problem at hand,
but an advert was placed in The Times later that day for a
proper dessert chef.  This then led the Leader of the Opposition to
raise the question of crêpes in Buckingham Palace.  The Prime Minister
responded curtly, saying that the Crown has a legitimate claim to
Normandy and the Seine.  Shipments of Brie de Meaux were also observed
en route to the Palace.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

From our Vienna correspondent:
Russia -- Many apologies. You are coming to my aid, and I grab a center.
Purely for survival sake, though. Expect Rum -> Ser, and you retake
Rum whenever you desire.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

CASABLANCA-Reports are coming in from nightclubs throughout the city that sporadic outbursts of La Marseillaise are rapidly being drowned out by drunken fans of Leeds United singing God Save the King.
Meanwhile, authorities are shocked, absolutely shocked, to hear that
illegal gambling is taking place within these very same nightclubs.  The
odds on an E/G/I draw are 3:1.

PRAGUE-What are you looking at?  Nothing ever happens here until 1906.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

This is your formerly-roving reporter, now heavily ensconsed on the
banks of the Po. It has long been my conclusion that Italy shall be the
winner of this worldwide skirmish, and I will be spending the rest of
my days drinking fine wines and eating cannolis. Austria has bungled the
entire eastern front, Russia's pleas are falling on deaf ears. France
is focused north, where England and Germany are working nicely together,
but don't have enough expansion room before tripping over each other.

Viva Italia!

*Kaiser launches new cookbook onto the world!*

Welcome to the sixteenth edition of your indigestible Catalan Chronicle!

First of all thanks for your patience in waiting for this delayed adjudication. The deadline arrived for this move last week, and I was missing three sets of orders. Not good. Anyway, a couple of you were querying why I've been delaying the deadline like this given that I did make it abundantly plain to you all that this game was due to be played to tight deadlines, so I've resolved not to delay the deadline again like that unless one of you asks me for an extension. If that makes the game a bit odd to play, so be it. A second NMR from you and I will replace you in the game.

With that in mind, let's try and get back onto schedule. Mondays should be spring moves, Tuesdays summer retreats, Thursdays Autumn moves, and Fridays winter adjustments. From next week, that is how we will play. So, I'm going to ask you for your Winter adjustments for 2000GMT tomorrow, Tuesday 9 July, and I will publish press for you on Wednesday 10 July 2000GMT, ready for Spring 04 which will be 2000GMT Monday 15 July. And back to our usual publishing schedule.

And now we have some press, hot off the telegraph wires, straight from our Barcelona newsdesk!

Russia to Austria:  Sorry, Sil - Gal was supposed to help Rum.

Russia to Austria & Italy:  Seriously.  AIR.  Stop the madness!  Anyone?  GE will call the shots if we don't unite.

Russia to GE:  If my southern friends can't unite, please consider me

Welcome to the fifteenth edition of your indescribable Catalan Chronicle!

Our Crimean correspondent has spotted Russia's dislodged southern fleet steaming into the centre of the Black Sea to regroup. What could this mean? Buy your next edition of the Chronicle to find out...

Russia:
F Constantinople - Black Sea

The next deadline is Autumn 03 moves and press Friday 5 July 2000GMT.

And we have messages to share with you:

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

From our Vienna correspondent:

Russia: Con is locked supporting Ank. Assuming you retreat to Smy for the center. So how about Bul S Ser -> Gre? Also, Gal -> Boh? Sil -> Boh would have been nice......

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Telegrams from London:
to
Berlin:  Looking good!  I'll support you to Sweden and the assault on
France can begin.  You take Paris and Marseilles, I take Brest and
Iberia?

to Moscow:  I still have no qualms with you, and no interest in advancing beyond St. Petersburg.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

This is the REAL Italy...well maybe.

To France:  Nice to see that you are a man/woman of your word.  You don't bother me and I won't bother you.

To Germany:  We each have our hands full, you can trust me to stay within our borders.....for now.  Good luck out West!

To Russia:  Now is the time my friend.  If you would kindly cut
support by attacking Bud, Ser and or Vie.  If I can march or sail into
Tri this turn it will cripple our common foe.  I will then be free to
help you in your quest of the Turkish lands.

To Turkey:  Sorry dude!

To England:  Ummmmm. good luck!

To Austria:  Buh Bye!

this time, we're stuck sitting on the sidelines, not even playing the
game! Screw this! These leaders are all terrible and if we mobilize NOW,
we'll crush the entire lot of them. Cyprus will Rule the World!

lasciano. La ringrazio. Non posso aiutare l'inglese o il francese contro
di voi. MI considero un amico. La Russia lascia sola Turchia, è debole e

For those who do not understand the only TRUE language.

My friends,

It seems that the more things change the more they stay the same.  I ask that you Germany aid me in the removal of Austria .  Or at least leave me to it.  Thank you.  I will not help the English or the French against you.  I consider you a friend.  Russia leave Turkey alone, he is weak and getting weaker, Austria is the true threat we all face.

Thank you,
Italy

Welcome to the eighth edition of your inimitable Catalan Chronicle! Wartime paper shortages and confusion about orders deadlines have conspired to hold up the production of this newspaper and we thank our loyal readership for their forbearance at this difficult time.

There have been lots of battles across our Continent over the past couple of months:

Which means we have a couple of retreats for you:

Turkish A Bulgaria can retreat to Constantinople.

French A Burgundy can retreat to Marseilles or Paris or Picardy.

In situations such as Turkey this turn, where there is only one valid retreat possible, I will auto-retreat the unit concerned to the only valid province. If you would like to keep this retreat, no further action is necessary. However, if you would like to retreat the unit off-the-board instead of my autoretreat, then please inform me within 24 hours of the adjudication deadline.

I don't think it will be possible to get the game timetable 'back on track' this week. So, I'm going to give you some slightly different deadlines:

Summer 02 retreat and press: Thursday 20 June 2000GMT

Autumn 02 press deadline 1: Saturday 22 June 2000GMT

Autumn 02 press deadline 2 and autumn moves: Monday 24 June 2000GMT

We also have some telegraphs from our correspondents in all the major cities of Europe for your perusal:

Editorial (the GM):

Sorry about the delay in getting your moves out, everybody. This was caused by some deadline confusion that I could probably have helped with by being more assiduous in confirming receipt of orders. I will confirm each and every set of orders I receive from now on - if you don't get a receipt from me by, say, an hour or two before the deadline, I strongly advise you to resubmit your orders.

don't look twice at nice gifts, I just smaile and say "Thank You".
 Appreciate the support!
Italy -- not too late to become friends. Your forces off my border,
my forces off of yours. You attacked first though, so your move
backwards first. Either army would be a good signal.Germany -- Any chance Mun would be free to help out in Tyl? Stay strong! Our cultural bonds will keep us safe from the heathens!

France to Russia: if there's an EG, happy to work against both with you

What a start for the Italian! My bets were placed with the English

Don't forget, you can make your build(s) conditional upon Italy's retreat, if you so wish.

We also have lots of news and views from YOUR continent in this, your latest issue:

---------------------------------------------------------------

France to England: happy to work together. Build a fleet, nth - hel, fleet - nth and we're on our way to taking out Germany

---------------------------------------------------------------

England, England, England.  An England/France alliance is typically
a problem long term, but given Germany's aggressive attempts to grab my
vineyards in Burgundy, I'm happy to work with you to rid Europe of
German aggression for once and for all.  Throw your fleets against
Germany and I'll throw my armies his way.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Germany, Germany, Germany.  A German/French alliance needs you to
stay out of Burgundy.  Build a fleet this winter to show your good
intentions and i'm all yours.  Together we'll get the English drinking
fine Bordeuax reds and quaffing good German beer.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia
to Austria and/or Italy - Shall we form one of those anti-Turkish deals
where we gang up on him because it just makes so much long term sense?Russia to German - Thanks for letting me into Sweden.  You did right?

---------------------------------------------------------------

France, France, France.  Despite your designs on Iberia I know
better.  That fleet is headed for the Mediterranean and when your back
is turned, you'll be stabbed by Germany or I.  Keep the fleet in
Portugal and we can work on Germany.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia, Russia, Russia.  Thank you so much for giving me free rein
in the north.  Germany will betray you, that much is known.  Watch out
for the fleet build in Kiel, and he'll have you out of Sweden by next
Fall.  I may even help him.

---------------------------------------------------------------

PIRATES!! PIRATES!!!
Yes, fellow citizens of Europe, you've heard this Roving Reporter correctly!

Terrible
news for the European continent! Pirates from the dark continent have
succeeded in crossing the Med, landing several gorilla troops on shore,
and made off with not one, but *TWO* world leaders in the past 48 hours!

That is not a typo! *TWO* world leaders, kidnapped by
*GORILLA* troops! Armed guards report, in both cases, baby chimps were
lying in the road in front of the motorcades. When the cars stopped,
they were besieged by 3 silverbacks and several female and male
gorillas! Guards and civilians were knocked aside, pure focus made on
only the leaders. No injuries were sustained by anyone involved.

"It was as if they were programmed to go for a specific
target", said one bystander of the apes actions. "They were purposely
hitting people with closed hands, or just shoving them aside. They
grabbed the President, wrapped him in vines, and carried him away".

Spotter planes reported losing the gorillas in the trees,
but discovered later that they made their way to the coast. All
gorillas were rounded up, accounted for, and sent to zoos in the United
States.

Unfortunately, there were no signs of the missing leaders.
Rescue teams are combing the forests, hillsides, beaches, and towns.
They are also calling on the general public to assist in this
Continental crisis! If you happen to discover a writhing bundle of
vines, call the authorities immediately!

Future News will be revealed as it is discovered, or made up if sales volume decreases.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Austria, Austria, Austria.  I see you're in a bad way.  I'll see if
I can spare an army to help you out against the deceitful Italian.
Your friend Germany will come to the rescue!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Italy, Italy, Italy.  Oh Italy.  Dearest Italy.  You get two fleets
and you think you can rule the world.  Well, France and I are on to
you.  Fleet builds are coming to challenge your Mediterranean naval
dominance.  You won't have it that easy.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia to Austria:  No prob on Gal.  As you can see Im good to go with a
AR alliance.  I can Support A Ser - Bul in Spring 1902.  Please verify
this weekend.

Russia to England:  Assuming I'm blocked out of Swe and there's a Fleet in Nwy, can you support F GoB - Swe in Spring 1902?

dc459 extension - jerome777   (Jun 13, 2013, 4:27 pm)
Hi everyone,

Unfortunately I'm lacking two sets of moves for the Autumn turn. Rather than have NMRs this early in the game, I'm extending the autumn deadline by just under 24 hours to give those concerned a chance to get their moves in. If they are still not present by 2000GMT tonight, then I will remove and replace the players concerned.

Sorry for the delay, but this is shaping into an interesting game - best if we have seven committed players involved.

If any of you want to change your already submitted moves this is fine up to the deadline.

Deadline for all Autumn 1901 moves (and press Smile  ) is now Friday 14 June, 2000GMT.

dc459 Autumn 01 Press 1 - jerome777   (Jun 11, 2013, 4:22 pm)
Catalonian Chronicle, 5 July, 1901

*Multiple public press releases cause Kaiser to be called a kook!*

*Commentary from the Matterhorn!*

Welcome to the fifth edition of your indefatigable Catalan Chronicle!

We have lots of news and views from the continent in this, your latest issue:

---------------------------------------------------------------

From our Vienna newsdesk:

From "The Kaiser":
Italy? Italy? Why are you
sitting on my coastline? Why are you in Trieste? Your best bet to
survive is to attempt Vienna, but you'll probably bounce with Russia.
Otherwise, let's stay out of each others way.

Russia -- didn't think you were serious about bouncing in Gal.
Would have been a good idea, though. Instead, I hope we find a way to
work together instead of fighting --- that just gives Italy and Turkey a
free run at us.

The Rest of the world -- Good Luck all, and stay out the midland areas. Smile

---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia
to Austria and/or Italy - Shall we form one of those anti-Turkish deals
where we gang up on him because it just makes so much long term sense?Russia to German - Thanks for letting me into Sweden.  You did right?

---------------------------------------------------------------

Der Kaiser wishes that all Cities surrender without firing a bullet!
Peaceful wishes to English Armies in the North. Bouncing in Burgundy is only fun for one year.
Was that the bear whining about Sweden already?
---------------------------------------------------------------

Hear Ye, Here ye! (shh shh .. what are you yelling about? Shut Up, man, you'll get us all killed!)
This
is your roving reporter again, deeply embedded in a hillside on the
border of Switzerland, where I can see troop movements from 4 countries.
And movement there certainly is!

France and England, 2 countries with long histories of war, look
to have settled differences and steamed off in opposite directions. I am
currently in dealings to buy a nice villa on the Brest coast...
possibly the safest place to be in this war!

Austria made a typical, hardheaded, strong move south -- and is
now paying the inevitable price of having 2 countries knocking on the
back door. Whoopsie!
Turkey taking on Russia? Poke the bear much? Maybe that takes some pressure off Austria, though?

Russia has moved against everyone possible, in one form or another.
Desperate for a friend much? The Rumanians have flown the coop, last
seen racing over the Carpathians to more stable ground. But what's
there? Serbia? Already teaming with Austrian armies. Maybe a trip across
the Med would be more peaceful.

Germany looks to be a little worn-out, but I'm sure it's a purposeful slow start.
On
the opposite end of the spectrum -- Italy! Flexing muscle it didn't
know it had, and we outsiders can't see it either! But obviously some
notion of greatness has flooded into Italy and he's making a run at the
Solo. YES, you heard it here first, I am calling it: ITALY SOLO!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Telegrammes from London!
To Paris:  Germany offers an alliance, then moves to Burgundy?  Classic.
As long as we can keep the Channel and North Atlantic DMZed, I think
we have a good chance to work together here-much better positioning for
us than for the F/G.
To Moscow:  I keep my promises.

hope you've enjoyed reading it. Please do send in your news stories,
thoughts, dreams, ambitions, and reviews, however mendacious, for us all

Russia to Austria:  Assuming we bounced in Gal this Spring, I have no intention of moving there in the Fall, let's DMZ there.
Russia
to Turkey:  The price for an alliance is BLA.  Likely I'll take Rum
with a fleet leaving BLA open to you in the Fall.  However, if you move

TREMBLE,
MORTALS!  Hear the words of PERUN, God of War!  This game is written in
the stars for those whose comprehension is beyond that of yours, puny
humans.  Seven come to the table.  The first to fall will determine the
final victor; two more will collapse while three will live to see the
ultimate victory of MY UNWILLING CHAMPION.   So you all might as well
just surrender and give the solo to the King.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia, England here.  Nwy will get a fleet, not an army, unless you act foolishly by moving Mos-StP.

---------------------------------------------------------------

My dreams are filled with dead children bodies,

piling up in sweet Europa.

I see their smiles, their futures,

that could have been.
I cry while I sleep now.
While awake I see headlines,

carefully constructed by the mass media

"Countdown to War"

Who owns the media?

Who wants more children to die?

More glory, more power for the chosen few.

Who are the chosen few?

Are they me?

Are they you?
Can I remain awake or is life a living nightmare?

Can I look myself in the eyes and knowing

that I am just standing by

while the world is falling into the abyss of darkness?

Deeper by day.
Do we dare risk anything

for our fellow brothers and sisters,

that are suffering in our world?

Do we dare be heroes and not just sit by as

bullets and shells rain over the poor benighted children?

As the children in Flanders

die like flies yet another winter?

As the children in Galicia

wait with fear in their heart

about what will happen next?

Can we really sleep without seeing those bodies

pile up in our sleepless dreams?

The eyes, the smiles

that will be

no more. ---------------------------------------------------------------

The
untimely death of the Grand Duke of Smolensk has resulted in his assets
being sold off by the Emperor to fund the war effort.  A great admirer
of history, his interested were wide-ranging, and among the bargains
which can be found in the Grand Duke's collection, like-minded persons
will find the following:
-An
authentic rock crusher used in the Silesian mines, formerly of the
Grand Duke's antique collection.  The device was constructed in Milan by
Gabriel Reznicek, formerly of Prague, and serves as a symbol of Italian
ingenuity and enterprise growing in opposition to the Germanic
industrial complex.
-Roman
and Gallic swords taken from Alesia.  Historians will recall that in
the year 52 BC, Cæsar's victory at Alesia turned the tide of the Gallic
Wars forever in favor of the Romans, and set the stage for Cæsar to
transition Rome from Republic to Empire.
-Letters
from the French writers Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas to Guiseppe
Garibaldi, concerning the topic of friendship between France and the
newly-born Italian Kingdom.  Due to a clerical error in Switzerland, the
letters never arrived, but their discovery in 1880 sparked renewed
calls for a grand alliance between the two nations.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Berlin
to London:  Vi luv yur zili Eenglisch komedi, inkludin dis Been perzon.
Und ze teddi bar!  Ach, zo funni!  Vi kant ztop laafin in ze Reichstag
ver vi plan yur doom!
Berlin to Vienna: Unser Lieblingstier ist der Igel.  Was ist Ihre?

Welcome to the second edition of your super Catalan Chronicle!

We are pleased to report the receipt of multiple telegrams from our correspondents, and are delighted to publish these for you below.

---------------------------------------------------------------

This is your roving reporter, Johak Redovoski, reporting live and on tape from the depths of darkest Europe.

The skies at night are lit as bright as the Harvest moon as planes
roar in every direction from every major country. No missiles or shots
have been fired yet, but at least 200 planes have crashed due to mid-air
collisions. Could it be terrorism? Considering they were all flying
under the Lichtensteinian flag, one can only surmise.

Troops are also moving across the map. Turkish armies are
supposedly heading towards Bulgaria. The French are crossing onto the
Iberian peninsula. Germany forces are forging towards the North Sea
shoreline. And the poor people of Galicia are hastily building a dome,
expecting forces to invade their land from every direction.

---------------------------------------------------------------

German military exercises in the Baltic

Reports are reaching us of extensive German military exercises in
the Baltic Sea.  A small expeditionary naval force was seen by observers
to sail out of the Kiel Canal under the cover of darkness.  Residents
of a number of small islands off Sweden reported a number of sightings
of unmarked military ships taking photographs of the Swedish coast, with
one Swedish fisherman reporting that one of these ships had an insignia
of the German Navy shoddily covered up with a bed sheet.  These
manuvers lend further credence to previous reports that the German
Chancellor has designs on making Sweden part of the wider German Empire
towards the end of 1901.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, hi there, Italy here.  Just wanted everyone to know that I do not want to be friends with anyone until I get my army back.  Come on guys!  Really was that very nice?  What the heck am I gonna do with another boat?  Give it back.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Russia to Austria:  Let's bump in Gal and DMZ in the Fall?

Russia to Turkey: Ditto for Black Sea?

Russia to Germany:  I'm yours if you let me into Sweden.  Consider F Kie - Hol.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Italian naval power to be displayed

The new battleship recently built in Rome is causing Italian
nationalists to campaign for a display of naval power. Many are
suggesting that Italian naval commanders are encouraging their
government to join the battleship with the naval force currently based
in Naples and show that Italy has serious ambitions on the European
stage.  A campaign to recreate the decisive victory over the Ottomans in
the Battle of Lepanto is gathering pace.  Many Ottoman workers in
Italian docks have been the subject of random attacks by the more
extreme nationalist factions and Ottoman officials are reportedly
considering cutting off diplomatic ties with Italy.

---------------------------------------------------------------

ARCHY DUKE IS INNOCENT, OK!?!

Odd-looking graffiti has started to appear written on walls across Ireland. Claiming that somebody called 'Archy Duke' is 'innocent', experts have confessed to being bemused as to the meaning of these statements. Said one Gardai in Limerick, 'It's not as if anybody has been shot now, is it?'

Meanwhile, British governmental officials have denied that the graffiti is linked to any kind of Irish nationalist ruse, as well as playing down the chances of having to send the British Army based in  Liverpool back to Ireland to restore order, at least in the short term.

---------------------------------------------------------------

French government makes plea to other European powers over Iberia

The French government issued a communique through it's diplomats
across Europe this afternoon reiterating the previous position set out
by the government around recent tensions amongst the Great Powers of
Europe.  The communique read "The French nation wishes to maintain
cordial relations with all Great Powers in Europe, and our territorial
designs are small scale and limited.  However, in order to maintain
national security and to ensure we maintain enough military strength to
prevent an act of agression on French territory, it is our firm belief
that the great Iberian nations of Spain and Portugal should come within
the French sphere of influence.  As neither of these nations border on
the territories of any other great power, we are confident that a
peaceful extension of French borders can be achieved over the next 12
months.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Hello to all.  This is Turkey speaking.  I have every intent on attacking Austria Hungry from the very start of this game.  I only hope that Russia stays out of the way and that Italy minds it's own damn business.  France give me a call buddy.

---------------------------------------------------------------

British army cancels winter clothing order

Textile manufacturers in Liverpool are offering winter clothing at
almost zero cost in their warehouses after the British army reportedly
cancelled a large winter clothing order for the army currently barracked
on the outskirts of the city.  The owner of a scarf and hat factory
said "We've got to get rid of all these scarves and winter hats somehow -
the local barracks placed an order two months ago for 5,000 scarves and
hats, but cancelled the order last week - the quartermaster came and
cancelled it and muttered something about the winter campaign in Norway
being called off and Belguim now being the destination".  British
military officials remained tightlipped at the time of going to press.

This concludes our latest edition of the Catalan Chronicle, we
hope you've enjoyed reading it, and we hope that we will soon be
receiving plenty more telegrams from our seven correspondents to enliven
our future editions.

Correspondents are reminded that the deadline for
submission of press for the next edition of the Chronicle will be Friday 7 June, 2000GMT. If any of our correspondents would like to publish news and views from their region, then please do make sure to file copy with your editor before that time.

Fwd: dc459 Spring 01 Press 1 - jerome777   (Jun 05, 2013, 4:17 pm)
> Catalonian Chronicle, January 17, 1901.

>

> *Excitement builds all over Europe as great powers mobilise - war is in the air!*

>

> *Antipodean bird and esurient Hibernian rumoured to be cause of trouble!*

>

> *Physically-improbable events reported in port of Rome!*

>

> *First press-copy telegrams received from on-the-spot reporters!*

>

> Welcome to this, your first edition of the Catalan Chronicle!

>

> All over Europe, armies and navies are mobilising at breakneck speed in a seemingly inexorable march towards bloodshed. The Germans have been goose-stepping down Unter den Linden Strasse, the Turks have been calibrating their artillery by firing from the Bosphorus, Russian and English navies are building up steam in St Petersburg and Liverpool respectively, the French have been pressing their sartorially-elegant yet camouflage-challenging red pantaloons, and even the Austrian Field-Marschall has ordered new peacock feathers for his hat.

>

> However, the most remarkable event to report has taken place in the port of Rome. Whilst on parade an entire Italian army has disappeared, and been replaced with a brand-spanking-new fleet, of similar size and fire-power to the original Italian fleet stationed in Naples! Local physicists have postulated that a freak worm-hole in the space-time continuum might be to blame. Some believe this event to be a harbinger of other remarkable and deeply-improbably phenomena, rumoured to be about to occur throughout Europe in the forthcoming seasons and years. We hope to bring you news of these as they happen.

>

> The reason for the imminent continental conflagration has not yet become clear. Admittedly unconfirmed reports have been received from Ireland suggesting one possible explanation for the fast-approaching conflict. According to our intrepid on-the-spot reporter, 'some fella called Archy Duke was hungry, so he shot an ostrich'. However, doubt has been cast upon the definitude of this report as it was received in barely-legible handwriting, scrawled upon the back of an invoice for several cases of fine Irish whiskey. Make of this what you will - we hope to publish more reports giving more detail on the causes of the forthcoming war in future editions.

>

> Press telegrams

>

> Your super-soaraway Catalan Chronicle has sent intrepid reporters to the capital cities of all seven major European powers in the sincere hope that they will provide news and reports from across the Continent as the hostilities develop. As is our editorial policy, we will publish verbatim the telegrams received from our seven correspondents across the continent, together with any official governmental communications received.

> England offers peace to Germany.
