How DC games are run - garry.bledsoe   (Yesterday, 2:12 pm)
Did we ever tell you an answer on your request to follow a game as an observer? I am happy to let you follow the next one I start running as a GM. Just let me know.

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome Smile !

Long run is not a problem for me; I've played a more than one year game. My only concern is frequency of play: I can afford 2 weeks (usually open days mon-fri and sometimes sat+sun) for negotiations; retreats can be faster (1-3 days).

I'm too busy for a game now so, would it be possible to join a game as an observer (being CCed of all messages exchanged between players and GM)?

DPJudge on Floc.net still is active. DipCorp is a good human run site, I've played for several years.

Hey there, welcome! What's up with the Dip Pouch? Their judge is going down? We are all play by email here... Human GM that handles a game for typically around 6 months. GMs can use whatever software they like. Most use Realpolitik, some use JDip, and then a few other rare ones. I've even played in games where GMs ran them by hand, changing the maps manually. Join a game!

Hello DC,

I'm occasionally lurking the forum for a year but never played here, so I'm ~still~ new to DC Wink.

I've played a few Diplomacy games on http://www.Diplomatie-Online.net since the only French DPJudge has collapsed some years ago. Now, it's the turn of the Diplomatic Pouch... I prefer PBeM over play on website.

Even if I do appreciate the classic game, I'm interested in variants, especially, Game of Thrones since I've watched the full series. One day, I'd like to design my own world geopolitical variant based on critical natural resources with an trivial economical system such as Machiavelli.

I was wondering how games are run on DC - media, software etc.) -- I've read the GM guidelines -- and how do people join games.

New Member, how to join a game? - FuzzyLogic   (Mar 06, 2017, 7:53 am)
Hello,
Welcome! I just posted a new re001, so join away...
-mike

Hi all,

I just signed up and would like to play a game of Diplomacy via email here. I have never played a full game face to face but know the rules.

Do I understand it correctly that currently there are no standard games I could join? At least under 'open games' there is no game called re001 and I would not like to start playing a variant.

Also, I figure a game by email might take a while - what happens in case I am on holidays and don't have access to the internet for a week?

Thanks!

Inability to Join Game - Bonapartist   (Apr 19, 2016, 11:19 pm)
Hi guys.

I am new to this community but a veteran Diplomacy player. I joined my first game today but did not receive a confirmation email nor did it show up in my active games. As a new player, I can only join one game, thus I cannot play right now. Any solutions?

Thanks! I hope to be a valuable part of this community!

GMing - Slangers   (Sep 20, 2014, 7:17 am)
Contact Mike Sims or Garry Bledsoe- they will take you through the mechanics of handling the DC side of things. To get a list of players click on the game and look for the email player list link. That will send you an email with everyones contact details. I will directly mail you the kind of thing I send out when I start a game.

Ok, so I've emailed the Mods twice on this, but either I'm being relegated to Spam Hell or email is rarely checked, so I'll try here..

As a GM, how does one volunteer for new games to run? Is it done on the site somewhere, or does it need to specifically requested from the Mods?

Realpolitik bug? - vegas_iwish   (Jul 28, 2014, 10:30 am)
I was nearly crucified when I disbanded some units forced to ret when players did not send in orders in my 1st DW Yahoo games 15 yrs ago. "It's different online". Had already been doing the bit for 26 yrs or so by then which meant a momentum had built up for following the written rules which has never stopped Smile

Actually it is our house rules that are different from the standard rules.

The normal board version of Diplomacy says that a unit without orders are dislodged if forced to retreat, so it is not a bug in RP.

Yep. Known bug. RP will disband a dislodged unit that had no orders, which is contrary to our accepted house rules. You got it right, you just go put in a Hold order for the unit instead.

I've seen an occasional GM use the rule that an unordered unit will disband if dislodged, but only if it's in his or her house rules as our standard is to not do that.

Realpolitik bug? - Operations   (Jul 21, 2014, 10:37 pm)
I had an NMR on a Spring turn in a game I'm running, and one of his units was dislodged. For some reason, Realpolitik was making the unit disband. The power was not in CD, he had turned in the previous Fall and Winter turns, so not sure why this is. I had to go back and redo the turn putting in "hold" orders for the player instead of NMR, and then the unit was able to retreat from the dislodge.

Any thoughts on this? Is this a known bug in Realpolitik?

I think the text generated by jDip contains characters that are rejected by the DC Site. I have tried all kinds of dodges, but just can't make it work!
If I knew what was causing it I could filter it out...

DC500 updates OK but the others are driving me nuts. Gave up on 476 many turns ago. I think Cartesian is having issues with DC489 too.
