dc144 - Mostly Harmless - Pre-Game! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Greetings!
And welcome to this our 144th game, simply titled "Mostly Harmless".

Our 7 confirmed players are listed below... if you have any country
preference let me know, and I'll do my best to get everyone a country
they want to play.

Let's shoot for a gamestart on Monday, how's that? Let me know which
country you'd like, or simply "random" if that's your cup of tea, but do
let me know at least something. I'm thinking w the holidays here, the
first deadline probly wont be till early January.

Most of you (save 1 I think) are completely new to me! So an intro is
in order... My name's Mike, one of 3 moderators here at Diplomaticcorp.
I've been here for a good 3 years running and playing in games... I live
in California w my wife and two little kids, and besides spending WAY
too much time on games, I also do the web design for the site, play with
trains, LEGOs (http://www.sims-family.net/lego/cosmopolitan/index.html),
and and even have a day job too.

Good luck all, and be back in touch with country assignments by Monday!

For the record, some useful stuff:

dc144 (Harmless) f03 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Unfortunately our Englishman and Turk have gone MIA for 2 consecutive turns, so barring any correction, their last units will be in Civil Disorder, and hold for the balance of the game - Paul and Dan if you have any 'received' from me pls let me know ASAP!

With this, we are down to 5 players, and then the elimination of Austria takes us down to 4!
My how quick things shake down...

There is one retreat, Italian army Tyrolia can retreat to Vienna, Triest, or Piedmont. Since this affects the builds, we'll hold for the retreats first!

Retreat by Wed 2pm Pacific please.

Austria:
A Bohemia - Tyrolia

England:
A Edinburgh, no move received
F London, no move received (*Disbanded*)

France:

Attributable solely to a breach in the space-time continuoum, (and to no fault of your GM) an order was missed!

Italy:
F Ionian Sea - Aegean Sea

Same retreats are due, but the Italian did advance a bit, and the Turk fleet AEG disbands.
Corrected map attached,
-mike

dc144 winter 03 builds! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I’ve never seen so many fleets built in 3 years I’m surprised there’s any armies left on the map!

Austria: Remove A Tyrolia
France: Build F Marseilles
Italy: Build F Rome
Russia: Build F St Petersburg(sc)

This is officially a 4-player match now! Do you guys want a bit quicker turns given we don’t have 7 any more?

I’ll set the deadline for Monday Feb 18… 5 days… but if anyone wants the full week, let me know today and I’ll make it so.

Enjoy,
-mike

dc144 f04 results! - BUILD FIVE! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
That's right our mighty Dave the Russian scores a whopping +5 as he swipes Con, Ank, Swe, Kie, and Ber in one turn... but with only 3 centers open for build, 2 will be saved for a rainy day.

The last Turk centers are gone, Germany hangs on by a Danish thread, and it's looking to be three pretty soon! Sharon I dont see moves from you - pls make sure to get an order in for spring or it's Civil Disorder, and an Elimination is a much better result!! Being down to one unit, I'd accept a perpetual order if you like.

Builds, due Monday 2pm Pacific:

France: Build 1
Germany: Remove 2
Italy: Build 2
Russia: Build 3
Turkey: Remove F EMS

dc144 (Harmless) f05 Game End - Solo!!! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Obi-Wan: "These aren't the droids you're looking for"
Stormtrooper: "These arent the droids we're looking for"
Obi-Wan: "He can go about his business"
Stormtrooper: "You can go about your business"
Obi-Wan: "Move along"
Stormtrooper: "Move along, move along"

And so we have it folks, David pulls out the Jedi mind control, and France and Italy wave him on thru to a massive 20-sc solo victory, gaining 6 sc in one turn!

Quite possibly one of the fastest wins of all time, this game ends in a solo in only 5 years!

Congratulations to David, for his first win in his first game in dc. I hope to see you all in another soon! If any of you are interested in GM'ing, be sure to inquire... it's a lot of fun, especially when you get down to a committed group.

EGS (End-Game-Statements) are encouraged from all, especially given the odd turn of events in this final year... looking at it from a birds-eye-view, it seems as tho France and Italy could have stopped Russia here... Italy could have bounced 3 of the gains, and France could have supported Mun and taken Kiel for another 2, keeping Russia to only 15. Wouldn't that lead to a 3-way draw? No telling... but those last couple centers are always the hardest to get!

So do share your thoughts... and see you all next time!
Enjoy,
-mike

dc144 End Game. - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Greetings to All,

Let me start by saying something I am sure we all feel and that is: THANK YOU MIKE! Thank you not only for your work as our gamemaster, but for your dedication to Diplomacticcorp.

Next, Thank you to all of us who played. I enjoyed talking with you, trying to think like you, and generally getting to know a small side of you.

I have to say that with out Italy's Greg, I would not have done nearly as well as I did. I learned a lot from him and we developed an amazing relationship, nothing like I have ever seen in Diplomacy. Unfortunately for Greg, his trust and commitment to our cause was just a bit stronger than mine. I found myself in a position to win a solo and I took it, despite the loss to my friend. Greg I am sorry.

I look forward to seeing any or all of you again in the future!

Sincerely,

David Ellsworth

Yes I definitely agree: Thank You Mike! You were Awesome and handled everything including a couple Italian fleets getting trapped in a space-time-continuum extremely well (inside joke). Thanks for making this game so special!

Best Wishes to all,

“What’s that number” You ask? It’s the percentage of players that turned in orders this turn!
That’s right 3 players take the turn off! However none of them do all that bad considering…

There is only 1 unit dislodged, and the German army Livonia can only retreat to Pru so I’ll just move it there and we skip along to fall!

Fall 03 due Monday Feb 11, 2pm Pacific!

Please note in my house rules, two consecutive NMR’s would mean Civil Disorder and out of the game! So make sure to get in some prelims…

dc144 - Mostly Harmless - forum question - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The question has been posed,
"Our forum address: dc144(at)diplomaticcorp.com Does this email everyone?"

Thought I'd reply this one to all...

Sending to the forum address does not cc all... it posts in the forum.
Usually takes about 5 min after you mail to it, to see the post show up
on the website. It's a place we can all share info that only affects
this game, so that the rest of the site doesn't have to read our blabber
if they don't want to. If you go to the website, go into message board,
and then find the dc144 forum, you'll see anything sent to that address
will automatically post there, or you can post right from the forum
itself.

It will only mail out new posts to those players that opt to subscribe
to the feed! You can manage your subscriptions in the message board, I
think at the top of the message board page is a subscriptions link. If
you subscribe, then you'll get a cc of anything posted, sent to your
email. Not required tho, as my adjudications will be sent to you
directly too.

It's a good place for press, taunts, general chatter about the game,
whatever. Smile

dc144 - Mostly Harmless - Game Start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi, It’s your friendly GM again,
I can tell you’re all anxious to get this one going, so here are the long awaited country assignments:

Send some prelims in ASAP, cuz that’s a great habit to get yourself into… and since I hear there’s a holiday thing coming up this week, let’s make the first deadline for: Wed, Jan 2, 2pm Pacific! That way we can take our time and not feel rushed to get negotiations in between the turkey and the pie… I will generally run about 1-week deadlines, with 2 days for retreats and/or builds. If that is too slow or too fast for anyone, be sure to say so.

If you have any questions, LET ME KNOW! I don’t know the experience levels of the players here as you’re mostly all new to me.

Also, introductions are welcome!

Tentative schedule:
Spring 01 due Wed Jan 2
Fall 01 due Wed Jan 9
Builds 01 due Fri Jan 11
(always 2pm Pacific)

dc144 - Mostly Harmless - PRELIMS! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And it’s dc144, not dc133. Smile

Hey everyone it’s the day after Christmas and as I sit here at work – one of 5 employees here today – it’s time to get the game rolling!

Note I don’t have prelims from most of you!

Let me put it this way: Prelims are to Diplomacy as the spice is to say, a Harkonnen… Yeah. That’s the best analogy I could come up with, but you get the point. They’re important! Smile Great habit to start early.

Enjoy,
-mike

dc144 (Harmless) f02 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
England loses a couple to Russia and France, while Germany continues to spread out… And the Balkans… Oh my… Turkey helps Austria into Trieste, but Serbia gets hit from Russia and Italy… one of the two last Austrian dots fall, tho Gre stays alive due to an invading standoff! Confused?? I sure am! The Turk army in Serbia is destroyed (no retreat possible) and Vienna only has one option – Bohemia – so I’ll just move it there and we move on to the builds.

Standings are updated online, www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc144
