PREV  Fall 1913 Adjudication:  NEXT

We have peace at last!

All have agreed to a 2-way draw between Austria and France with survival for Italy.

Congrats to John and Charles on the draw (and Hamish for the survival)!

I will take any endgame statements that you wish to submit. Great game and I enjoyed being your GM.

Best to all!
Garry

ENDGAME STATEMENTS

Thanks to Garry for patiently GMing this to conclusion. From my perspective I was rather inattentive mid-game and didn't realize that I was facing an AGI alliance until I had a real problem. Then there was the Fall season where I seriously overthought how to knock G back by two centers, instead of a reasonably certain one. So instead I missed an obvious flaw in my moves and Germany got a build! I had to really delay things to straighten that out. Fortunately Italy ultimately concluded his survival was more likely with me than Austria. However it came down to wire as that elimination of Germany (I thought we had a Janissary agreement by the way) greatly delayed any possible retaking of St Pete.

Congratulations to John and Hamish. And thanks to Brian for a remarkable defense of Turkey!

Congrats to Charles and John for the draw!

And a thanks to Garry for being an excellent GM. This was my first game but I'm fairly certain I would be a terrible GM. Not nearly as patient.

Germany's initial mistake was greed. Followed by a stubborn refusal to co-operate with England. I believe my early game decisions made me a target for most neighbors.

Once the cooperation with France began the take down of England was assured but if not for Russia, I had hoped to end the defeat of England on a more equal footing with France. With Russia's constant pressure I had to act as a shield without being able to conquer anything myself.

The most fun I had was holding off Russia and France under different conditions. My main objective was not to survive but to win. I only gave up hopes of that in the last 4 years. I was really trying at all points to get a hold of scandinavia in some way. Ah well.

Thanks everyone! I had a really fun game!

Regards,
Vikram

Good grief - what a rollercoaster DC560 turned out to be for Austria! From near-elimination in 1903, to having one 50/50 shot at a solo in 1913.

I'm not going to attempt to summarise the game from Austria's perspective (it went on too long for that to be of interest to anyone!), but the power shifts during the game were really quite remarkable.

My personal thanks to Hamish and Brian - the fact we were able to agree, and sustain, an alliance to halt Russia in the south proved to be a real game-changer. And when the inevitable Austrian stab was eventually made against Turkey, I just knew Brian was going to make life difficult (and he certainly did!).

I'd like to echo Brian's thanks to Garry - you managed a sometimes difficult game (three abandonments?) with commendable patience and stoicism!

Congratulations to Charles and Hamish - I hope we meet again!
Thanks to all for playing a part in making DC560 a real battle of attrition.

John

Congrats to the victors!

Thabks Gary for running the game, you are an excellent GM. And thanks for the kind words at my elimination!
