dc179 Blackmarch F04 Results! - Retreats Needed; B... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
New Alliances Forming?
England Surges Into a Tie with Russia.
The Witch and the Bear Command the Board with 10 each.
Italy Tries to Figure in the Final Tally with 6.
Germany Decimated on All Sides.

Okay...several different scenarios here:

Austrian F Bul(sc) is forced to retreat. I retreated to the only option
AEG but then he needed a disband so I took it since the unit in Gre
occuppied a center. IF THIS IS NOT OKAY, let me know. You could
keep the F in AEG and disband Gre as an alternative.

Russian F Swe is forced to retreat. He has options - Fin, GoB, or OTB
[off the board]. IF OTB, then you will get 2 builds instead of 1.

French A Spa is disbanded by the GM.

We can take these retreats first. Due to me about to leave to see family for the US holiday [where I don't have the program to adjudicate], these are due Sunday the 6th at 5pm CST. Then we will have 48 hours for the builds/disbands [until Tuesday the 8th at 5pm CST]. IF you want to go ahead and send orders for builds/disbands without seeing the retreats, you may do so. If I get orders all marked final before Tuesday then I will go ahead and proceed. If not, update coming Sunday.

Builds/Disbands:
England Build 3
Germany Disband 2
Italy Build 2
Russia Build 1 [or 2 depending on retreat above]

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Winter 832 - Hells Gra... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Yeah, this used to be a nice neighbourhood before the old ladies started moving in. Nowadays some of us daren't even go down to the shops...

Sorry guys - the missing build came in this morning but I did not have a chance to adjudicate until this evening. On the board, we see a removal in Hamptonshire and units springing up in Fortrenn and Gotar.

We have a tricky bit of scheduling in front of us now, however, as one of our players is travelling from the 8th to the 25th. Lets try to get the Spring turn in beforehand though - we'll set the deadline for Tuesday, July 8th (11:59 PM GMT). Following that, we'll be able to kick back and take a couple relaxing weeks away from the board. =P

Cheers everyone!

DC141 Seven Sinners - Winter 1910 - In The End - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya folks,

With the black armies swept from the board, the colours become a little bit more defined. Russia catches your humble GM in a mistake and builds two armies in Warsaw and Sevastopol. England matches the Tsar with two armies of their own, while fleets go up in Brest and Smyrna for France and Turkey respectively. However, if ANY of that is incorrect, please just let me know. =P

A four-way DIAS has been tabled for your consideration. To accommodate a player vacation, we will set the deadline for Spring 1911 moves and votes for the E/F/R/T draw for Tuesday, July 15th (11:59 PM GMT). As our traveller is actually on the road till the 20th, however, please be fore-warned that we may need to extend that deadline depending on the availability and access to internet cafes during our friends trip...

If I receive four yes votes clearly marked final, I will announce the vote result early. Please remember that any abstentions will count as a 'no' vote.

Cheers everyone!

The reason there's no rush is because we're hitting a kind of vortex of people being away. In order to give everyone involved a chance to build, we'll have to put the Winter 2002 deadline at Thursday, July 24th, at 22:00 GMT. It's an unfortunate delay, but it IS summer, so it's going to happen.

Diplomatic Corp Newsletter July 2008 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
DC Newsletter – July 2008

G’day! It has been a long time, since you have been bombarded with a newsletter from good ol’ me so I thought I better write one. Actually Mike and Trout strongly hinted that it was time I wrote one so here it is.

HELLO members of Dc, old and new, friends and nemisis (nemiseseses, nemisii), guys and gals. What’s going on? What’s happening? (don’t all answer at once).

A quick introduction because some people might not even know who I am (we have 233 ACTIVE players in a game right now.. man do I have to send this too 233 people… not looking forward to that..).. and I remember someone stating recently that any diplomacy club would struggle to get over 100 active members… hmmm.. so wrong there&hellipWink.. I’m Steve (also know as – deathblade_penguin or penguin to some).. I’m the last founding member of diplomaticcorp and one of the trio of moderators. I’ve been playing diplomacy for 8 years online now and more recently face to face in my little town of Melbourne, Australia. Many GMs know me as ‘the guy who hassles us when the games are delayed’. My two compadres are Mike Sims (loving husband and father), American and downright master of the diplomaticcorp site and of course Trout, our fun lovin Canadian friend who does a little bit of everything and anything to keep the gears a-running. So hello to everyone.

Okay section 1 – Updates and Announcements

The Winter Blitz is over. Many thanks to Mike, Trout and all the GMs who pitched in and helped run this first annual tournament in Dc. Congrats to Nigel for sweeping the 1st Annual Winter Blitz with back to back solo victories! Also victorious…

Best score, round 1: Paul Russell
Best score, round 2: Paul Green

Overall tops:

1st place, score 43.6: Nigs, aka Nigel
2nd place, score 38.5: Bridgejunky, aka Paul
3rd place, score 35.0: M_don_j, aka Mikael
4th place, score 34.6: psychosis 1973, aka Michael

Complete standings are posted online: www.diplomaticcorp.com/winterblitz

The Diplomaticorp Invitational has already started with little fanfare or pomp. This annual event is a 2 round game in which the top 8 players in our club are personally invited to play. Also included in the invitation were last year’s winner, our very own Mike Sims and a ‘favourite’ chosen by the moderators. However these names are all hidden as the first game is gunboat. Not always a popular choice with our players – the gunboat game adds an element of strategy and randomness to the game. Will our pack leader survive the first round being in the top 7 to play in round 2… only time will tell. Anyone interested in following this game, can drop me an email at stevelytton(at)hotmail.com and I’ll add them to the adjudication list or just check out game Dc189! It’s exciting stuff.

GMs are always needed. Even though we have had Andy, Michael, Kai, Garry, Doug, Christine, Steve, Jerry, Hamish and Paolo grabbed games recently.. more and more are needed. If you can help out GMing a game (it generally takes between 20-30 mins a week to run a standard game), let us know.

Section 2: Games, Games and more Variants

Man, have we had a lot of new and exciting variants coming to diplomaticcorp (DC from now on) lately. Let’s have a look at them briefly :-

Star Trek Variant, Imperial 1841, 35 player world war IV, mandate of heaven, 2 season diplomacy, Viking diplomacy and Baltic Diplomacy – and that is just to name a few. I’ve already signed up for mandate of heaven, star trek and viking… but I am a sucker of a diplomacy variant… I think of it as the next step from playing standards. AND all of these variants can be found in the dipwiki. I read somewhere there are 122 variants listed there, everything you want to need. So check out the open games page and sign up for some of these games. And some of these variants are even being created by our very own diplomaticcorp members.. how exciting is that. (and a special treat for all you old veterans of diplomacy, I hear a rumour that someone may be running an original 1958 diplomacy game with original rules… I’m not going to mention any names (Paolo) but keep your eyes peeled.

Section 3 :Holidays.

I understand that you northern hemisphere types (okay I was born in England so I know) are about to enter summer. This means that it could be a period of delays for a number of games, so here is a quick run down of some of the things you can do to help your games and your fellow diplomancers

a) Let your GM know as early as possible about any delays
b) Consider whether or not the internet access you may have on your holiday will be enough
c) Talk to your GM about getting a friend or another diplomaticcorp member to play your position in your absence. Many GMs allow a proxy for a short time, as long as it’s not a player who was already in the game. This allows the game to keep moving.
d) Submit conditional moves for a couple of terms to lessen the need for a delay.
e) If you’re a player in a game with a delay, just remember it’s a game!

Section 4: Civil Disorders.

Now I’ve said this before but it often happens with new players, the civil disorder. Please remember that when you sign up for a game it is generally a 6-8 month commitment. I will tell you that even in a losing position, everyone would prefer you to submit orders rather than just give up on the game…… giving up because you got stabbed, or you are losing – it’s not really good enough… and it spoils the game for 6 other people. So let’s try and keep those Civil disorders down can we.

Okay that’s enough from me, I think. Until next time. As always if you have comments or feedback on everything I write, or even complaints you can send them to former.trout(at)... Wait.. hehehe a little joke there.. send them to stevelytton(at)hotmail.com

Steve

DC172 Midsummer Night's Stab - Fall 1604 - The Mer... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
D'oh, and Illyria was headed to Venice, too. Silly Habsburgs. Well, time to kill FranceSmile

On Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 10:52 PM, Former Trout <former.trout(at)gmail.com (former.trout(at)gmail.com)> wrote:

Why, then the world's mine oyster,
Which I with sword will open

--------------------

Thanks for the patience everyone, as I attempted to gather orders from all players. Unfortunately, word never did come in from Jerry. Happily though, the fearsome Deathblade Penguin (Steve) has volunteered to venture forward and send in some moves in the good Sergeant Todd's stead. This enables us to keep the game moving for the moment until Jerry makes contact again.

And its definitely a turn worth waiting for - some very tumultuous times hit the board with the Fall of 1604. Sweden gets scrunched - but still manages to fend off the worst of it while keeping good humour. Meanwhile, France takes advantage of a rare lapse on the part of the Habsburgs and sneakily takes Venice. (With no order for the army in Illyria submitted, the Austrian sailors stand to but find nothing there to transport...)

Two retreats are required before we move on to Winter adjustments. Deadline for the Early Winter 1604 retreats will be set for Saturday, July 5th (11:59 PM GMT). Also, please note that due to a player absence we will have a slight delay in the game between July 8th and July 25th. The summer doldrums will give us time to brush up on our Shakespeare. =)

Cheers everyone. See you on the Autumn stage..

DC183 Spring 1905 moves - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And the chaos continues...

Turkey and England continues to feel the pinch...Turkey hangs on and continues to make it difficult for Russia and Italy, whilst England finds all his orders disrupted, and loses a couple of centres. And is that the Italians heading West in the Med?? Can anything stop the Russians?

I need retreats by 2000GMT Monday 7th July, with a view to Fall moves Friday 11th. Early submission of retreats would be welcome, and would allow a quicker Fall deadline

WWIV dc195 Turkey to all - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hello everyone,

I haven't spoken with the majority of you (yet that is) but I would like you all to know that I will be away in the British Isles from July 7th-July 28th, and during that time I will ask all of you to defer all your messages to Jorge Saralegui at jmsaralegui(at)gmail.com (jmsaralegui(at)gmail.com), who will be taking orders for Turkey for all of Year 2.

I have briefed him on all relevant moves and alliances and I can assure everyone that the current status quo has not changed.

Best regards,
Matthew D. Strebe

P.S. Please do CC all messages you send to him to me, as I would enjoy reading what has gone on in my absence.

Shouldn't have to be that long - and we'll be able to run a few turns in the mean-time. Our travelling player has gotten me a set of prelims for the Spring turn. I think, at worst, we'll have a couple longer-than-usual turns...
