The leader of Cardassia apparently had some sort of transporter accident, or so say the Obsidian Order.
Please welcome aboard Anthony Stevens, the new leader of the Cardassian Union.
His email is: AandTStevens(at)GMail.com. Send him a 'hello' and tell him how great Cardassia is and not to be concerned with that disruptor pistol in your pocket.
The new Deadline for Stardate 2371.3 (fall) is September 9th; 2359 Zulu - that's 7:59pm Cadassia time.

Looking for a few good recruits for my team in the... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Hi all,
I'm playing in Jeremie LeFrancois "Wonderful Mansions" Tournament on the website he runs www.stabbeurfou.org (I basically play on three sites, diplomaticcorop, stabbeurfou and DP judge) and I need a few more players for my team "diplomacy geeks" so far Bruce Quinn (California) and Doug Kent (the editor of Diplomacy World) are on my team---i need 4 more players. Even if you don't want to play with me you can still sign up to play alone or you can join or start your own team...below is the annoucement Jeremie sent out on the tournament on aug 26:
As you probably know by now, the "Stabbeurfou" site is organizing a big tournament to start September 2008. All information about this tournament is to be found on the site at:
http://www.stabbeurfou.org
Basically, it is an extremely close adaptation of the World Masters but with several enhancements from the Diplomacy National World Cup that is currently on the site. So World Mansion is a team based tournament for the first round, for quality play. The use of a Web interface and human supervision is the best compromise between the warmth of human and the adjudication precision of judge adjudication. A huge effort was put into the interface, as in other major web based sites world widely available at present time.
Everything is 100% ready on the site and some players have already pre-registered. As usual, the critical resource is... more players !
This tournament is one of the few chances left to gather the community to the traditions of high activity gaming ways, with long conversations about the game or other topics (especially with foreign players - this is an opportunity to broaden one's mind while preparing at the same time the stab of a Russian player with the help of a Chinese one, with the help of a Brazilian one).
If you want to join the fun, come to this page:
http://www.stabbeurfou.org/MonInscription.php
to register for the site, and to register for the tournament as well (or reply to this email)
There are plenty of world wide players familiar with the site and able to answer any of your questions or you could write to me to this email address.
Join the fun, because life is short!
Regards
Jeremie[Reply] |

Never mind.
The new Cardassian attempted to take his post using the same transporter.
The deadline is cancelled and the game is back in recruit mode until we find someone that takes a shuttlecraft to work.

One more thing that I forgot to mention if you want to be on the team "diplomacy geeks" you can e-mail me or contact Jeremie LeFrancois directly at jeremie.lefrancois(at)gmail.com (jeremie.lefrancois(at)gmail.com) and let Jeremie know that you want to be on the team by name, as there are several teams. You should also go the website in Jeremie's' announcement below and sign up for the tournament before you write him and let him know you want to be on the team (I'm not sure if he can assign you to a team if you're not already signed up for the tournament.)

## The Poll ##
The Poll was going to close today but since we had only 3 responses sofar, including mine, I have extended it.
* Should we change the default Viking Victory conditions for a Solo to say that it requires a minimum of 26 SCs, or 50% of the total?
Yes, let's change it as sugested 66% [ 2 ]
No, let's keep it the way it was (26 SCs or more) 33% [ 1 ]
Total Votes : 3
You can still participate. Just go to http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=4475.
## Modified RealPolitik files ##
As you can see on the attached maps Scorched Earth areas are now easier to distinguish.
A fire will be burning the SC for one Major season and the SC will have vanished after that, but throughout the remainder of the game the Scorched Earth itself will show throughout that country (as a nice deep brown color).
For those of you who use RP to provide orders and try out various scenarios, you need to download the attached MAP and BMP file to your RP/Variant Files/Viking folder on your PC. Only then will RP show you the attached DPY file with the same information as mine (re. map layout and SC counts).
For those who don't there is always the latest GIF images.

DC191 Study In Baltic - Winter 1905 - Silver Blaze - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
The carriage bounced along the Finnish streets, soliders passing in rows along either side. In the interior, Watson was quizzing his friend Holmes on the details of the latest mystery that he had solved. Holmes finished explaining the point "And, of course, the curious incident of the dog in the night-time was the most obvious clue as to the whole affair."
"But Holmes," Watson stammered. "The dog made no sound during the night-time."
Holmes smiled. "That was the curious incident." ....

A proposal to all:
Unless the remaining players are willing to band together against the
Swedes, he's got the solo locked up this year (and may have it anyway
even if we resist).
Britons, Norse, Anglo-Saxons, would love to work with you guys to try
to prevent that and force a draw. If you're interested please email me
direct. Otherwise, I suggest we call this one and vote a Swedish solo.
Sweden, very well played! Enjoyed playing with everyone and hope to
see you guys in other games.

DC190 - Fall 2004 Results - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
...and the map is done.
One thing to note, yet. I failed to mention in the adjudication that China's F BER - BEU bounced along with Russia's F KAR - BEU. It's been corrected below.

Hello everyone. This one actually had me referring to my rulebook. But I found what I was looking for and everything's set to go. Unfortunately, I'm about 6 hours away from being able to get started on the map so that'll be around later tonight.
One thing to note... we have our first failure due to strait control. Remember that it's the state of the strait at the END of orders that decides whether it's controlled or not.
We do have three retreat to resolve before moving on to the adjustments.
I actually have this game, thought it looked neat... but havent got a chance to play it yet. You recommend it? Play online?
Have owned it most my life but have played it less than 1 would think. Easily put together a way of playing on line (some were charging $$ for it!) a few years back & am now moving forward again after a break. Used to have the original 3M from 60s - some recent versions have slight changes. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/AcquirePlayed/ has links + past/current games on excel files. All info neeeded on the colorful "board" on the file. Peter had never played before my 1st yahoo game 2-3 yrs ago & still has never played elsewhere so can be done. Have done this + Executive Decision live with steve Janacek who is DC now.[Reply] |
DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 835 - Strangers I... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Gents,
I very much doubt that the Norse or Britons would turn down the 3-way draw they're going to be a part in. Of course, I would not argue if the solo was voted in my favour (but why give up now?), then I would of course accept that as well.

Times get even harder for the Anglo-Saxons as the Swedes power their way
across the middle. The A's hang on though, clinging to one last center in
Gwynned. There was one retreat owing after the Fall moves, but as the
Anglo-Saxons had only Dyfed to fall back to I took the liberty. (Nathan, if
OTB is preferred then please just let me know.)
We carry the battle on into the Winter of 835. Deadline for adjustments

let me know if you spot an error with the adudication.

2 more needed for french tournament - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
this time my apologies for spamming your mailboxes. we're still short (no pun intended) 2 guys for this french tournament starting up like yesterday.
http://www.stabbeurfou.org/docs/regles/en/PresentationMansion_en.html
so far it's ranger jason, faerieking rob, mikael the thief, nigel the evil wizard, and myself the drunk dwarf. maybe some quickminded folk would like to join us?
as far as i understand, it's gonna be multiple rounds (kinda like the old email Worldmasters), some kind of team scoring, judge based and no crossgaming. think that sounds fun? me neither, but that's no excuse for not participating

Could we expand dc to allow for play of other game like this? One I like but have wanted to try online is Imperial. Why not use the existing database, and branch out to other games? Also, 1870 and other 18xx games are popular online, and the Cyberboard files already exist for them. Do you use Cyberboard for Acquire?

ACQUIRE - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Cyberboard mainly of use for wargames due to all the counters on the hex maps though I unfortunately have not fallen in with many of those SPI/AH wargame players. Even there excel files fine. If the site can hold .xls files that is all that is needed. Guess could make the file into a gif with 'print screen' if needed. If you look at the current boards in the Yahoo group you will see how basic things can be made. Not sure how you get maps into the group as have not Gm'd a game here yet but should be similiar process if desired here vs a YG. As I mentioned, Executive Decision is another 3M/AH game that is easily done in any environment. Another no-dice strategy game. I did a ship-to-ship combat game in a group a few years back which was something. 4 players loved the tricky adaption of the old SPI Age of Sail game. the final 2 ships actually sank each other on the last turn. Gifs all that was needed there though some might have trouble getting the feel for it. Can do about anything once I or someone else tells me what they want. Even multi-level Connect 4 tournies easy.
