DC 134 - WOT - With regret... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Our intrepid Borderlander general, after fighting valiantly against the hoards of RL time constraints, has found himself unable to continue with us.

So I must put our game on hold until a replacement can be found.
Trout, can you put it out to the Light Brigade?

Thanks all.

dc163 Fall 1904 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
World Wide Press Reports

The Italian Press is reporting the following.....

<<<<tick-ity-tick-tick- -tick-ity-tick-tick- ......>>>

New Italian leader.

Hamish, father of Chota the cat, has stepped onto the podium to take his
rightful place as glorious leader of Italy.

Singer and star of the stage, Daniella Espresso spoke for the nation
when she said, "what better man to lead Italy to victory than the father
of a cat. This is the leader we need at these times. Just look at his
soft coat!"

WWP reports

The World keeps turning, but what a mess!
Austrian forces under new leadership take supportive roles, and come up wondering where the moves were.
English forces crush a German Army in Kiel.
French forces complete the conquest of the Italian "boot", but Austria shares in the spoils.
Germany is finished! The brave souls of the German Armies were encircled and defeated despite their efforts.
Italy's new leader, Hamish, father of Chota the cat, moves the government in exile to Tunis.
Russia shares in the destruction of the German forces.
Turkey advances into Austria with Russian help.

<<<<tick-ity-tick-tick- -tick-ity-tick-tick- ......>>>

With the closing of 1904 we must bid our farewells to Nancy McKenna (aka Germany). With overwhelming force and nowhere left to run, her remaining two armies were disbanded and her supply centers captured. We thank you Nancy for your time, and we wish you the best. Feel free to sign up for another game (or more). Also please let me know if you would like to remain on the list for emails. (Just to keep an eye on those who beat up on you.)

Winter Builds and Removes will be due by Monday 26th May 8pm EST. (I will be camping this Memorial weekend). If I get a complete sets before then, I will try to adjudicate before I go on Friday.

DC135 - Temporary Hiatus and Restart - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya folks of DC-135,

It appears we've been on a temporary hiatus for the last week or so - hope you all enjoyed the rest. =P Nick will be back in the saddle, he's just experiencing a serious case of the Real Life Blues at the moment... Sometimes life gets like a country song - we've all been there.

I believe the game was left with the retreat - Eric, if you could please forward me your retreat order I will get it out this evening. In addition, I'd ask the remaining players of the game to check in with me ... We had some big NMR's last turn and I'm not sure this week's break has helped any.

Thanks for your patience everyone. With your help, we'll get the game moving again so that when Nick returns its running just as smoothly as when he left. =)

Cheers!

Russian Press Conference - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The Tsar formally denounced the attack on Piedmont made by renegade mecenaries flying under the Russian flag today. An investigation made by the secret police has established that the encursion into Piedmont was arranged at the bequest of another nation. The Tsar's army is currently re-establishing command and control over the renegades, but communication is still sketchy and the mercenaries are still in negotiations with other countries.

DC-184 Deadline Reminder - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
The Spring 1901 deadline is less than 19 hours away,
and I am still missing three orders. Contrary to my
house rules and the general rules of the DC community,
I will replace any player NMRing on the first turn.
If you don't have an order receipt, I don't have
your orders. (An order receipt is a reply to your
orders email.) Don't be late.

Don't stop the music 'cause it tends to soothe
I can tell you want to groove

... And then there were three. Germany leaps into Sevastopol eliminating the Tsar. Meanwhile, France continues to push forward occupying Serbia. And a little behind the lines profiteering nets the Kaiser Vienna opera tickets...

There was one retreat from the aforementioned Russian fleet in Sevastopol, but as it would disband with winter anyhow I took the liberty of removing it OTB. My thanks to Dave for playing this one all the way through - I imagine the tables will be turned in the next one, man. =)

Two builds from Germany and one build from Turkey are due. Deadline will be set for Friday, May 23rd (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers!

dc145 russian eog - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Might as well send in the eog, its a bit long, but I enjoy long explanations for things as I am sure some of you can attest to

My Russian Strategy: I'll cut this into relationships with the different powers. Hopefully it will make sense to others.

I started right off with the intention of being involved in all aspects of the world, initially looking to go half in on a juggernaut while also maintaining a strong northern presence to ensure that when Austria was killed I could completely circle germany and end that war before it would begin. To do this I established information sharing agreements with Italy and France. We agreed to do what we could to pass information between us that was of any interest to the other party. These worked out very well and would later become fuller agreements that involved giving each other aid.

I also worked out a deal with England that involved him giving me Norway in fall of 01 in return for him having complete control of my fleet for the next 2 years. It was assumed that I would use the fleet to help him in attacking germany since he and france had made an agreement to do that. I never was able to attack germany with it and the agreement came out very poorly for England as france betrayed him stopping him from getting any 01 builds, and then the only instructions the fleet ever received from England were to not attack germany as had originally been intended. After a year of wasting the fleet's moves in orders that had no real purpose I pushed into clyde on france's suggestion to threaten England.

As part of the half juggernaut I talked initially with turkey about working together and he seemed very amenable to the idea. However, sadly he didn't respond to emails so I started working with Austria instead. The agreement with Austria worked very well until he stabbed me, luckily for me Italy was more strongly allied with me than him, and when Italy stabbed him it was only a matter of time before Italy and I took him out. By the time Austria finally succumbed to Italian advance Derek had taken over, and sadly for him neither Italy nor I had any intention of letting him live. It was only through my shift from solo to ending as quickly as possible that austria lasted as long as he did, for instead of continuing my active war there I shifted to germany and assisted Italy where I could in his takeover of austria.

Any discussion I had with the first germany were null when mike took over. He was kind enough to honor the deal that I thought I had with the first germany and gave me Sweden. In turn we demilitarized Prussia and Silesia which allowed both of us to center our efforts elsewhere. This relationship needed to become a lot closer when France was kind enough to nmr and leave me hanging the minute I showed myself to be working with him. The new france didn't make much of an effort to play, which was due to his hopeless situation (the previous france's nmr gave germany a major advantage). The failed relationships with france forced me to deal with germany much longer than I actually wanted to. By the time the next france had nmr'd a few times I had finally gotten sick of people's lack of playing screwing with my strategy so I switched from trying to solo to trying to draw. I knew I would need to work with Germany to do so, but Mike kept finding excuses to not propose the draw for longer and longer. This made me realize the only way to make him accept the draw as inevitable was to attack him and give my Italian friend all of austria instead of splitting it in half like we had planned on. I then attacked berlin in a complete destruction of any of our previous agreements hoping that capturing one of his home centers would be enough for him to accept the draw.

Austria's rejection of the first draw proposal came as a slight surprise to me, for from my perspective his only chance at not dying was accepting it, which proved to be true. When it came to my attention that Mike had encouraged the Austrian rejection of the draw proposal I realized that no draw's with Germany were possible. Instead I approached England again and proposed to him a draw with him getting more than a survival. The second GIR draw proposal was england's chance to make his choice, when he voted it down he demonstrated his interest in working with Italy and myself towards a speedy end of the game. I do not know if my interest in ending the game would have been more successful had I tried to solo, but this game did teach me the politics of a draw. England only listened to me because I was offering him a position in the winning side instead of the survival that Mike offered. Italy and I had been strongly working together all game, so much so that I suggested that he take one of my supply centers at one point and I never defended myself from him. I think of all the people in the game he was the most disappointed by my shift from playing for solo to draw. For all that, it likely disturbed mike a lot, Italy was the sleeper power, never overtly strong like germany or myself, but especially after his betrayal of austria a legitimate power that would have been difficult to attack and could have controlled the southern half of the world. I think it likely that had I not shifted all of my interests from solo to draw and taken some of the fun of solo out of Yuri's play he would have been the deciding factor in the inevitable German Russian war, and most likely he would have sided with himself, dealing both Mikes deathblows at the same time.

Folks,
It seems I sent out deadline reminders for both of
these games a day early... I apologize profusely for
confusing and worrying so many people. The real
deadline for both games is still more than 39 hours
away.
Don't let that be an excuse for being late, however.
Remember, DCers, I will replace anyone defaulting on
the first turn. That instantly shows me a severe lack
of interest in the game, as well as a lack of respect
for your fellow players.
Thanks to everyone who has gotten orders in already,
by the way. You make my life a little less stressed.

-mike

Personally I think the life and 'testabi8lity' has gone out of this game with yet another replacement.

A new borderlands at this stage would severely impact the alliances that has formed.

I, with your permission, would like to propose an end-game with a

Draw for soutlands, whitecloaks, westland and sea-folk

(and if it passses we can then just crediut borderklands with a survivial rather than an abandonment)

DC135 - A French Dilemma - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

Still no word from Nick, unfortunately. It seems as though you fine player might be stuck with me for a few turns or so. The thought seems to have scared some of you away - so far the only player I've heard from is Erik... Although he did present me a good dilemma that I had to think about last night.

French moves were submitted for the Spring turn but through an email quirk were not received by the GM. Erik forwarded me the dated emails showing that they were sent.. I haven't gone through them to see how they would impact the results, but after mulling it over last night I would be inclined to revisit the Spring and include the French orders. I would, of course, listen to any players opinions on the subject and if anyone strenuously objects then it would be grounds to continue on as it stands.

However, since no turn has passed since the adjudication in question, and since its a friendly game - I don't foresee a problem. I'd still ask the other players to drop me a line, however, just to let me know their thoughts on the matter.

Cheers everybody,

Trout
