.ExternalClass DIV {;} So I have 3 votes for a 4-way draw with the Borderlands Surviving, and one vote for a Trolloc Solo.
I will process the game close on DC when I get back on Tuesday.
I just want to thank you all for playtesting this map.
Please send me your thoughts and ideas for improvements, and weather or not you would be interested in playing the next iteration of this variant.
(just so you know, some of the planned changes involve the removal of Dragonmount, the Eastlands as a nation, and adding a path through the Mtns of Mist between Katar and either Baerlon or the two rivers.)
Great game, everyone, Thank you!

I agree to the draw... Jason correctly interpreted my Trollocs solo vote as a vote for the 4-way draw. I was going to change it before Monday, but he jumped the gun on me..
All is good. Well-played everyone. =)

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 830 - Camel Spott... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Ah well, a dromedary has one hump and a camel has a refreshment car, buffet, and ticket collector. ...
The Norse take to the far northern seas, the twisting dance of the Britons and Anglo-Saxons continues and Scotland remains high above the fray. There was one retreat needed after the Fall turn, but as the Britons only had Gwynned to fall back to I took the liberty. (Bruce, if OTB is preferred please just let me know).
Otherwise, we plunge on into Winter 830. Anglos owe a disband and the Norse/Swedish alliance both gain a build. Deadline will be set for Tuesday, May 27th (11:59 PM GMT).
Cheers!

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Welcome Paolo... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Folks of Imperial Bent,
With regrets, I've had to seek out a replacement for our Emperor of the Rising Sun. Please welcome Paolo Sforza, who has been good enough, (or crazy enough,) to come join our rowdy little party. He will be stepping in as Japan to help us play this game out.
While I already do have prelims in from Paolo, I'd like to reset the Spring 1873 clock and give him some time to communicate with you savages. Please note that he will be travelling for the next couple days and will only return on Tuesday. Revised deadline for Spring 1873 orders will be set for Friday, May 30th (11:59 PM GMT).
My thanks to Bret for carrying the Japanese torch as long as he did.
In other news, a French/Dutch draw proposal has surfaced. Please, even if you do not change the orders I have on file for you, let me know your yay or nay vote to this proposal by the Friday deadline.
Cheers everyone. Thanks once again for the patience.

So I haven't heard from a single one of you concerning my proposal to include France's Spring 09 orders. Therefore, I have re-adjudicated the Spring 09 turn with the inclusion of moves from Paris.
Only a minor change occurs in the results - although it may have major ramifications down the road... Instead of the French fleet in the Ionian - it is the Turkish fleet in Albania that is dislodged and made to retreat. As there was only a single option - the Adriatic - I took the liberty... Ian, if OTB is preferred please just let me know and I will adjust the adjudication.
Please note that up to this point, the only player who has checked in with me is Eric from France. I am still waiting to hear from the other remaining four powers. Andwer, Jeremiah, Clint and Steven - you folks now have until Monday, May 26th (11:59 PM GMT) to write to confirm your continued interest in the game. If I don't hear from you, I will assume that you have abandoned their positions - and I sincerely hope this isn't the case.
Assuming that no change is required in the player roster, Fall 1909 order deadline will be set for Thursday, May 29th (11:59 PM GMT). Please send me your orders with copies to Nick.
Cheers everyone. =)

DC 145 England's EOG - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Hello all,
sorry for late, but I had no acces to the PC till now.
Well it was my first PBEM game and was quite nervous.
I played some diplomacy games before but I've never won, so...
My first intention was to get touch with all because that is important. Then help France to get to Germany, but he stabbed me so I needed Germany's help. Then I was only helping Germany because he saved me before death. I used Yuri's conversation, in fact, he took me over the game. It seemed that Germany don't want any draw, so I decided to boost up Russia's draw. Sorry Mike, but I had to this, and now I think that I've made good decision.
That's all, hope I didn't make many mistakes here. See you in other games,Bye

Hi all,
Good game everyone. I have no one to blame for my demise other than... all of you. Good play particularly from the Arch-Duke who resisted an early onslaught.
Best of luck in future games and hope to see you all again over the board sometime.
MANY thanks to Trout for GMing a fine game and tourney. Your work for the game was much appreciated.
Peace All,

DC138 - EW 2009 Extension - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Hi folks,
My apologies - I forgot when I scheduled the retreats deadline that Jason was away for Memorial Day weekend. Obviously he can't submit a retreat when he is off gallivanting and whooping up a storm...
We'll push the EW 09 deadline back a few days to accommodate. Revised deadline will be set for Tuesday, May 27th (11:59 PM GMT). I will, however, adjudicate earlier if I receive the last couple of orders in and marked FINAL.
Thanks all. Cheers!

DC 134 - Game Over - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Good Game everyone.
EoG statement Westlands.
***********************
My initial plan was to make an alliance with the sea-folk given that i figured i would need at least a 3 country alliance to really put the seafolk on the ropes.
Alas one of those countries was Felix and since he tends to follow the same "let's be allies in this game and then I shall stab you" plan, I knew i could
not get the allies I need. I made my intial alliances with the Seafolk and Original Midlands and setr about trying to defend from felix's 'surprise' attack that
would come in the first year (for the record it did!, but at least I was ready).
Trout looked strong in the southlands and with the midlands crumbiling and changing ownership they looked even better. I approahced the borderlands and
formalized our alliance - we planned to take the eastlands down and then go through the midlands.
It was around this time the whitecloakcs changed leader. I contacted Jordan about a posisble working together (in my mind, any war between the westlands and the whitecloaks would lead
to someone else winning) but received no answer. No surpirse there, he was replaced a few seasons later with Garry (who was a reasonable and sensible ally).
The new midlands (my close friend Julien) demanded a lot of territories and would compromise on nothing. He also assumed as i had 6 SC, i wa the biggest and
had to be attacked (not neccessary the right thing in diplomacy). Sean (another friend of mine) in the borderlands was also tired of Julien's diploming style
and we worked together. Contrary to populr belief, Sean was calling a lot of the shots when it came to the eastlands and midland attacks.
Working with Garry we wuickly decimated the midlands and was all set to move against Trout in the south. I then lost contact with Jorge.
I send at least 5-6 messages with no reply and I suspect (*from now established contact) that he did the same. But with no messages, i built a fleet in
defence and e moved his fleets in defence. When Trout convoyed his army onto the mainland, I knew the Trout had courted my ally.
If the game had contiued my plan was
1) work with Garry and Sean to eliminate Trout
2) work with Garry to break and eliminate the seafolk whilst holding sean at bay
3) stab sean and go for the solo
Unfortunately, Sean was unable to play on and i just could not face another replacement so i called for a draw. Jorge, Trout and Garry definately should have
been included in any DIAS and Sean was only relgulated to a survivial because he was the one quitting....
good players in the end but too much love lost at the beginnnig.

.ExternalClass DIV {;} So I have 3 votes for a 4-way draw with the Borderlands Surviving, and one vote for a Trolloc Solo.

The beginning of the week has rolled around again - hope all of our American players are having a good holiday weekend. No break from DC-166, I'm afraid though. Deadline for Spring 1910 is in just under 18 hours. I am missing only one set at this point though, so we're looking pretty fine. =)

DC172 - Replacements Required - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Hi folks,
Unfortunately, I have to announce that I have not heard back at all from our English or Ottoman players. I have begun the process of seeking replacements and we're on temporary hiatus until they can be found. I don't actually expect this to take too long though - and hopefully will be writing to you all again very shortly announcing the new player roster.
Thanks for the continued patience - we'll be rocking and rolling again before you know it. =)

DC-134 Southlands EOG - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Hi Folks,
Well - here we are... A successful four-way draw with one survival. Not quite what I had in mind when I started my Captaincy of the Southlands, but a result I'm quite content with nontheless. Congratulations to my fellow draw-sharers, a tip o' the hat to Sean for his work in the Borderlands and my thanks to Julz and Tim for their efforts. (Julz - you deserved a better neighbour, that's for sure.)
Above all, a huge shout-out goes to Jason who designed and GM'd this exciting new game variant. It was a lot of fun to play, brother. I totally enjoyed it.
Although, I have to admit to being greatly frustrated - but this was mostly at myself. I am the first to volunteer that I did not pay the diplomacy in this game nearly the attention that it deserved. The biggest result of this was my long stalemate with Jorge and the Seafolk - a situation that finally began to resolve itself at the end of the game. (Surprisingly enough, it changed up when I wrote a few emails to him... Weird, eh?)
During the mid-game, I was once again stung by my failure to pay attention to the play. I think I had several opportunities to start working with Garry - all of which I squandered by timidity or lack of focus. I spent pretty much the entire mid-game propping up Julz against the West/Border/Whitecloaks alliance while trying to defend my own south from Jorge.
Things started to roll in the last turn - I managed to start talking to Jorge again and with some concessions made, he opened the front against the Westlands. If things had continued, and we had talked Garry into joining our northward-heading group, things could have gotten fairly interesting.
However, I agree with Steve when he points out that another replacement at this point would have blown. After the lack of attention I paid this one, I'm more than happy to be part of the draw - and I'd look forward to the next playtest where I can focus more on the game. =)
Map notes:
- I might open the sea zones up a little more by adding a few more over-lapping shallow water zones. With just two fleets, the Sea-folk can pin down three or four units for any nation with a coast.
- Windbiters Finger - make this a passable space?
- Another pass through the Mountains of Mist - sounds good... How about another through the Spine Of the World?
- Make the passes through the Spine of the world navigable by players and open up part of the Aiel Waste for traffic.. This would help eliminate part of the stalemate-ness of the board and take away the 'Southern Fortress' aspect.
Those are my thoughts. Thanks for the game everyone! And once again, nice work Jason...
