DC-184 Missing England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I've just sent Kevin an email, giving him a last chance to stay in the game. If I don't hear from him by tonight, I'll ask for a replacement on the DC Open Games list. Guess we'll have to hold off on the Winter adjudication for now.

Sorry,

DC176 - Winter 1904 adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Following builds/disbands were received. See also attached map.

Austria:
Build A Trieste

England:
Build A Edinburgh
France:
Remove A Burgundy
Germany:
Remove A Holland Italy:
Build A Naples

This leaves a very interesting map.
Germany has units all over the map; which would have been nice, had they been connected.
Turkey's unit in Smyrna is still in CD; wonder whether it will survive another year.
Russia's advancing army has started to thin in middle Europe; vaguely recalls a story about long supply lines and starving units.

Deadline for Spring 1905 is Tuesday June 17, 23.00 GMT.
Adjudication may happen sooner if all orders have been submitted as Final.

Your GM
Frank

DC141 Seven Sinners - Fall 1909 - The Problem Of S... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The center is a little confused in the Fall... Germany finds a hole in Holland, England side-steps into Ruhr and Munich, attempting to cover Munich instead annexes it...

Net result of all the action - Russia builds a unit and England disbands one. Deadline for winter 09 adjustments will be set for Monday, June 16th (11:59 PM GMT).

Just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers folks!

dc182 w02 builds! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Builds are out! We have new armies for Germany, Russia, and Turkey, and just as many new fleets for England!

Note: We have now reached the end of 02. As I said in the game-start mail, I’d check all the orders up till this point. Many of you have had what would have been various misorders and had been contacted to fix them, but that wont be the case going forward. Be absolutely sure to check when fleets move to bi-coastal spaces, for if it can move to (or build on) either one, it’ll fail if not specified. And of course make sure you know where your units are. If you cant tell on the map, I can clarify. If you have any questions about valid orders, you’re of course encouraged to ask them, and I’ll get back to you, but most orders will just be acknowledged with an “okie” and when it comes to deadline time I’ll just run the turn!

Spring 03 for this Friday, 10am Pacific!
Enjoy,
-mike

DC-184 Still no England - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Folks,
I'm sorry to say that England never wrote me last night. As the deadline was *Wednesday,* I'm preempting my two-NMR rule in favor of immediate replacement. However, if Kevin contacts me before I find a replacement, I will allow him the typical second chance (as per my house rules,) in the hope of keeping the game moving more fluidly.
If anyone has a problem with this, please let me know so I can consider alternate points of view.

Mods,
How do I go about getting the game up on the Open Games page for a replacement?

Thanks all,
The White Wolf

Dc189 Winter PRESS additional - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Players.

Apologies but I missed this press which should have been included in the winter adjudication. I am including it now. I am very sorry for this error of mine. GM.

Press starts.

Irish, the Welsh suggest you invest in a compass. Cursory study of it will reveal that there are other directions in which the Welsh could move other than east or west: for instance, north and south! This will also help your fleet avoid sailing in non-productive circles. You may also want to study the self-fulfilling prophecy. Now that you've approached my shores, I will counter with the extra fleet build you didn't want. Where to go from here? I will take ANG this year, bounce you in ST. in the spring, and sail south to BRI in the fall. If you persist in seeking out conflict while I grow and you don't, I'll suggest investing in an abacus.

Angles, it looks like you'll take SUF with MID. GLO will support MER-MID in the spring if ordered, and in the fall if needed. The Welsh believe in balanced growth, and will negotiate accordingly in the future. Keep me posted as to how we can continue to cooperate.

Britons, best wishes to you as well. If you see a green ship on your coastline, send out a schoolchild in a dinghy to point them in the right direction.

Blackmarch dc179 - S04 Results - Retreat Needed - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
All kinds of interesting shifts. One thing seems certain I fear -
the Turks may have to get used to purple robes and vodka.
Too many crazy moves for me to even begin to understand the dynamics.
I can't wait to see the next turn!

Several notes of business. There were many retreats. Some of them had no real options so I went ahead and did them.

Austrian A Tri - retreatd to Bud [we can retreat OTB if Joe wishes]
Austrian A Ser - retreated to Gre [again, OTB is an option if Joe wishes]
England A Bel - retreated to Hol [OTB is an option if Matt wishes]
England F NTH - NEED A RETREAT FOR THIS ONE. Many options: Edi, HEL, Lon, NWG, Nwy, Yor

Please send this to me today [if possible] and I will send out an updated view.

One other IMPORTANT NOTE: the map attached shows ownership of centers as they were entering the Spring. Thus,
even though Italy currently has a F docked in Tri, it started the turn Austrian so it is still brown. Hopefully this
helps you guys realize what units could change hands in the Fall.

Either way, our next deadline is a bit longer due to player request. Our deadline for Fall1904 is July 2nd, 5pm CST.

Order Correction for Spring 1906 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
England is correct in that he did send a more recent move order for his North Sea Fleet.

From England:
I request a delay. I have raised an objection to the adjudication due to an error on my moves Spring 1906. I have not heard anything in response to my objection. I ordered F NTH-SKA, not F NTH-Den. I have confirmation.

This does change a few things.

England moves into SKA and NTH as ordered.
Germany advances into Kiel, and forces a retreat by France. (France may retreat to Holland or Ruhr.)
Willie, I need that retreat as soon as possible.

I have attached revised realpolotik and gif files.

Once the retreat is back I will set the new Fall 1906 move date.

My apologies for the error.

WWIV pre-game! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Welcome all to this first ever World War IV game in diplomaticcorp!

GENERAL:
I’m amazed that we filled up 35 players in about a week and a half, this must be an insanely popular variant! By my count we have about 20 diplomacy veterans and 15 relative newbies in the mix. However – I have had at least a minimal discourse with all that have joined, and believe we have a solid group of players that all have the basics of the game firmly in hand, and should have hopefully very few problems with NMRs.

NMR:
For those who are new – NMR means No Moves Received… it’s what happens when you haven’t turned in moves by the deadline. All your units end up holding, and you usually get hosed during these times. Therefore I strongly suggest all players turn in PRELIM orders every turn. That is, as soon as you get results, pick some orders, ANY orders, and turn those in. They may not be what you want eventually, but you can always revise them later in the turn.

IF YOU CANT PLAY:
If you cant play, or don’t realize that this is likely going to be over a year long commitment if you do well (much less if you don’t!) then PLEASE let me know now. Because there are so many players, that means that many of you will get lied to, cheated on, and outright slammed with unexpected orders! This is of course the fun of the game, and if you would even think of quitting the game if you get slammed, then again, PLEASE LET ME KNOW NOW. You will put out 35 other people if you are not in this for the fun of playing it out to the death, even in the face of adversity.

REPLACEMENTS:
We shouldn’t need them, because everyone here is going to confirm they are in it for the long haul. Regarding Civil Disorder or Replacements tho, I will default to my standard house rules. That is I will not allow any 01 NMR. I will hold up the game, contact the player, and figure out what the heck is up. I will replace anyone that drops out in year 01. After that, once we enter year 02, we go with standard NMRs. That is if you NMR your units hold, if you NMR two major turns in a row you are out of the game and your country goes into Civil Disorder.

CONFIRMATIONS:
Every player must respond to this message to me, and confirm one last time, now that we have 35, that you are still interested in playing this game, and that you’ve read this mail, and my house rules, and that that’s all ok, and most of all that you are here to play to the death. You can find my house rules here: www.sims-family.net/dip/houserules.htm

COUNTRY ASSIGNMENTS: Random

VICTORY: Half + 1, or the first person to 50 sc with a 5 sc lead. That is only around 25% of the board needed to win.

DRAWS and VOTING:
Contrary to my house rules, in this game if you fail to vote, you will ABSTAIN and not be assigned the default vote of no. Any unanimous vote will pass, even if some players did not vote. However even a single no vote is enough to cause a proposal to fail. This is simply to make end-game-proposals realistically possible to pass. Players that don’t care to vote will not stand in the way of it passing.

TIMING:
1 week turns, with 2-3 day retreats. Deadlines on Mondays Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 10am Pacific US Summertime (5pm GMT). This means if you get results on a Monday, the next turn will be due the following Monday. If there is a retreat due, it would be due 2 days after, on Wednesday, with the following turn then the next Wednesday. I wont ever go faster than 1 week. Total turn, from results to adjustments would then be about 9-10 days.

EXTENSIONS:
I will allow each player 2 (two) 2-day extensions for the game… (3-days, if a Friday to Monday) That is, it’ll push back to the next of the M, W, or F. This could make a normal 7 day turn up to 9 days, or an adjustment phase up to 4 days. Extensions can only be granted in advance of the coming season, never for the season currently in play. I’ll track these privately in a spreadsheet, and never reveal who has used them or not.

BUILDS:
The game is CHAOS builds. (www.dipwiki.com?title=Chaos_Builds) There is no delay in the time required after capturing an enemy or neutral sc till you can build there. You can build in ANY supply center you own!

PROXIES:
You may NOT hand control of your units in this game to another player in game.

DELAYS and STAND-INS:
I will not allow delays beyond those granted above per Extensions! If you have a vacation, or other need to be away from the game for a period of time, then you can either make your best guess and turn in moves early (including conditional orders), or, you may pick your best friend or trusted player that is not in or ever was in the game – and declare him your temporary stand-in. I have 3 very good and reputable players lined up to fill in if necessary, in case you don’t have anyone you trust to do this for you.

ORDERS:
To ME: mike(at)southwall(dot)com.

INTROS:
Definitely welcome, and encouraged! So many new faces here.

FIRST DEADLINE:
You must confirm to me (per above Confirmations) by Wednesday 6/18, 10am Pacific (5pm GMT). Players not confirmed by this time will be queried, and if not reached, then we’ll take the next in line to get in the game. Once I get 35 confirmations, we’ll get a final game number, assign countries, and be on to our wars!

Enjoy,
-mike

Welcome all to this first ever World War IV game in diplomaticcorp!

GENERAL:
I'm amazed that we filled up 35 players in about a week and a half, this must be an insanely popular variant! By my count we have about 20 diplomacy veterans and 15 relative newbies in the mix. However – I have had at least a minimal discourse with all that have joined, and believe we have a solid group of players that all have the basics of the game firmly in hand, and should have hopefully very few problems with NMRs.

NMR:
For those who are new – NMR means No Moves Received… it's what happens when you haven't turned in moves by the deadline.

If you cant play, or don't realize that this is likely going to be over a year long commitment if you do well (much less if you don't!) then PLEASE let me know now.

We shouldn't need them, because everyone here is going to confirm they are in it for the long haul.

Every player must respond to this message to me, and confirm one last time, now that we have 35, that you are still interested in playing this game, and that you've read this mail, and my house rules, and that that's all ok, and most of all that you are here to play to the death.

Players that don't care to vote will not stand in the way of it passing.

EXTENSIONS:
I will allow each player 2 (two) 2-day extensions for the game… (3-days, if a Friday to Monday) That is, it'll push back to the next of the M, W, or F. This could make a normal 7 day turn up to 9 days, or an adjustment phase up to 4 days. Extensions can only be granted in advance of the coming season, never for the season currently in play. I'll track these privately in a spreadsheet, and never reveal who has used them or not.

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Spring 1874 E... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Thats fine Trout,
Speaking of vacations...its that time of year again so heres my headsup: I will be going away attending a wedding from 2 July 08 through 7 July 08. I don't expect to have any internet access during that time either.

Thats a couple of weeks from now so hopefully we can get another game year in before I go.

Thanks,
David Watson - China

Hi folks,

Due to a short player vacation, we are extending the deadline for Spring 1874 to Friday, June 20th (11:59 PM GMT). This is only pushing it back 48 hours so I hope that it isn't a problem at all. However, just let me know if this doesn't work for anybody..

Cheers!

DC 156, DEADLINE WARNING and other info - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)

Hey guys,

Deadline in about 32 hours, and I am still short some orders.....

I'm going to be travelling in some remote areas for the next couple of weeks, so my access might be a bit spotty. It shouldn't affect the game much, but some of my adjudications might not go right on schedule.

My apologies for this, but it's unavoidable.

Cheers,

Warren

DC183 Fall 1903 moves - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
And we roll on to Fall 1903

England grabs Denmark to compensate for the loss of Norway...but can he hold on in the face of Russia's northern assault? Meanwhile, France and Italy seem to come to an arrangement, with France reducing her presence in the Med, and Italy vacating Munich to head for Bohemia. However, a French general is likely to face a court martial, as the French army vacates Kiel, leaving the remnants of the German cabinet still holding on to power...just.

In the East, a messy situation in the Balkans results in a stalemate, with a network of moves and support cancelling each other out. In contrast to the French general in Kiel, the Russian general in Armenia will be up for a commendation as he anticipates the Turkish army moving to Ankara, and sneaks into an undefended Smryna, putting Russia in a dominant position with 11 centres now under the Tsar's control.

With (amazingly) no retreats needed, we move to Winter 1903. The only changes needed are from Russia (building a whopping 3) and Turkey (disbanding 2). Whilst Germany's technically due a build, due to him being in Civil Disorder, there'll be no troops appearing in Kiel...

To try and keep the game moving at a reasonable pace, the Winter 1903 deadline will be Wednesday 18th June at 2000 GMT. Should both Russia and Turkey confirm their adjustments before then, I'll adjudicate early.

As always, please feel free to point out mistakes...

Michael
