dc423 summer 03 retreats - catsfather   (Apr 24, 2012, 2:07 pm)
Both Russian units retreat OTB ... as everyone expected. Ho hum.
Stuff attached. Deadline is Thursday at 18:00GMT.
All rant stuff deleted, 'cause ... what's the point.
Listen England and Russia, if you don't want me to GM games again then
email Sims and tell him. I'm happy with that. I'm happy with that
and it'll be my last game as GM. I've had enough of running games
where people walk away and think there's no consequence. There is a
consequence: you're GM wonders why he bothers.

Hamish,
Thanks, much, for GMing. It is a thankless job. I started Gming over 30
years ago in a postal 'zine for play-by-mail Diplomacy. You had to type up
everything, steal copier time at work at night, and mail stuff with real
stamps. NMRs were no fun then, especially when you had 3-4 deadlines.
Discovered the Internet (me and Al Gore) and started playing the e-mail
Diplomacy then. Ran automated judges, which were nice in helping you manage
the games, but the personal touch of having a real live GM is preferred.
I hate a game that is spoiled by NMR's, but those are the rules for this
tourney. There are other choices out there if you don't like NMR's. Again,
thanks for your efforts.

I am very sorry for my rant yesterday.
There is no excuse for it, but as an explanation: it's been one of
those weeks (and it's only Wednesday!). I was going to growl at
someone. It might've been the woman working in the corner store
struggling with the cash register. It might've been the bus driver
who was trying to re-position his bus at the red light while I was
crossing the road. In the end, it was you guys. Sorry.
Thank you all for the support you sent back.

Builds are done and we're on to 2008.  Please note that I won't be available to acknowledge the receipt of orders until approximately 5pm CDT on Monday.  So, don't be surprised when you don't hear from me.  If I don't have orders from someone at that point, I'll ask for them and won't declare an NMR until 24 hours after I ask.  After this week, I'm here for quite a while, though, so we'll be able to really get back on track.

DC421 - Spring 1903 Results - Corrino   (Apr 23, 2012, 7:20 pm)
Good Evening, Gentlemen.
Nice turn.  Some fighting where I didn't expect it, and a bit of unexpected passivity, too.The Kaiser flips, and chooses to help the Tsar back into Norway at the expense of his erstwhile English friend.
However, it seems the King was expecting something of this nature.  His move to The Skaggerak sets up a nice guessing game around Norway and Denmark for the Fall.France, meanwhile, helps Germany into Holland.  Does he regret that move now that the Kaiser has also moved into the Ruhr, or was that simply insurance against English interference?French and Italian units in the Med area bounce heads, but remain still at arms length.Turkey takes advantage of Italy's distraction in Trieste, but doesn't press a similar advantage
in Ionian.  Perhaps those four fleets are still working out their semaphore signals?

PRESS:  Will Germany survive to fight another year!
This sounds a lot like last season's press.  Should we debate the significance of the exclamation point where a question mark out to be?

RETREATS:
It is my policy to only auto-retreat units if ALL retreating units have only one possible retreat.  Since that is not the case, we need England and Germany to submit retreat orders.

English F Norway can retreat to Norwegian Sea or Barents Sea or OTB.Italian A Trieste can retreat to Venice or OTB.

NEXT DEADLINE:  Retreat orders are due
tomorrow, April 24, by 18:00 Eastern time.

Cheers,Chris

dc419 spring 1903 results! - coryfucius   (Apr 23, 2012, 6:01 pm)
Sorry these are a little later than usual - I was out of the office this morning, so I had to catch up on a few things. The Balkans are a bewildering mess, as Austria gets help from Russia to hang on to Greece and pick up Serbia, but Italy walks into the vacated Trieste.  Russia fends off England's attack on St. Petersburg, and also foils Germany's move to Finland.  England and Germany push deeper into the French homelands, as Italy sails unopposed into Spain. There are three units dislodged:  The French army in Gascony may retreat to Marseilles or OTB.  The French fleet in Irish Sea may retreat to North Atlantic Ocean, Wales, or OTB.  The Turkish army in Serbia may retreat to Albania or
OTB. Since the dislodged French fleet has multiple retreat options, we'll have to have a summer 1903 retreat phase.  The summer 1903 retreat orders will be due tomorrow, Tuesday 4/24 at 3pm Central (US) / 20:00 GMT.  Thanks! Cory ----- Spring 1903 results: Austria:

*Clash on the Serbia/Bulgaria Border!*
*Germans Claim to Have Reverse-Engineered Italian Stealth Technology from Captured Tank!*
*German Forces Forget Something Important, Hurry Home!*

Hey all,

This was largely a repositioning move, and very little noteworthy happened. All of Germany's move succeeded, including the stealthy move to Sweden. Russia likewise succeeds in all his endeavors, though these were mainly shuffling units around. Apart from those two countries, only three other units on the board actually moved. Partly this was due to some planned bounces, or units cutting support and not intended to succeed in moving.

France is on the ropes, with his fleet expertly removed. It's even technically possible for us to see france eliminated this year. We'll see what the fall brings for everyone!

I really hate it when folks drop. If I had to, I would. However, I think I can manage. In fact, I cannot foresee circumstances that would force that.

Thank you!

Hey all,

I've mentioned to some of you that my Dad is ill. He passed away early Saturday morning. As my family is in CA, there have been many phone calls, etc.

I will be emailing you all in 5 to 6 hours.

Thank you!

Steve -

Sorry for your loss as well.  Let us know what you want to do - postpone turn, find replacement, etc. whatever you need.  I'm sure Christine knows what we can and can't do in tourney rules.

Mike
