DC 420: F1902 Adjudication - AceRimmer (Apr 19, 2012, 2:48 pm) |
There's a definite westward trend to the units of Mediterranean nations. Turkey. Austria. Italy. And it's not just the fleets. The armies go west, too. There's a smooth, almost unimpeded flow to the west (no train-stopping bounce in Silesia this season!).
In the north, things play much differently. For every thrust there is a parry, and the only unit north of Munich that moves is the Russian army from Warsaw to Prussia.
All in all, I'd say our central powers are in trouble.
We have one retreat:
German army Munich may retreat to Berlin, Silesia, Tyrolia, or OTB.
Order due tomorrow at 14:00 CST.
Due at the same time are Winter adjustments, of which we have a few (in fact, everybody gets a piece of the action):
Austria: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
England: Supp 5 Unit 4 Build 1
France: Supp 5 Unit 4 Build 1
Germany: Supp 3 Unit 5 Remove 2
Italy: Supp 3 Unit 4 Remove 1
Russia: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
Turkey: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1

A Vienna Supports A Galicia - Bohemia
England:

A Holland Supports A Burgundy - Ruhr (*Void*)
F North Sea Supports F Norwegian Sea - Norway (*Cut*)
F Norwegian Sea - Norway (*Fails*)
France:
A Burgundy Supports A Bohemia - Munich
A Paris Supports A Burgundy

F Spain(sc) Hold

Dc 402: Austria EOG - Joral (Apr 19, 2012, 10:55 am) |
A short EOG, but not much I can comment on from this one.
As Austria in this game, let me say that as this was my first time
playing Austria, let it be my last. I do not like playing kickball when
I'm the ball.
From my point of view, this game turned into some bizarre dance with
Italy, trading home centers, chasing out armies, but with neither of us
having any way to get ahead. Perhaps it is my inexperience as Austria,
but I was surprised that Italy was always (somehow) able to guess my
choice of move and thwart it. First turn, I had telegraphed it to both
Ben and Maslow (Not knowing at the time that France and Italy were
aligned), if I didn't flat out say it was what I was thinking. After
that, I didn't talk to France for several years, figuring that anything
I passed on would help inform Italy's actions. Turkey offered me
command of a couple of his armies near my SCs, which worked well enough
for driving out the Italian invader, but even with that, I couldn't find
a good way to gain ground.
I do have to give credit to Ben, in that he had ample opportunity to
stab me and didn't before the end. It's also funny, because France tried
to get me to turn on him by telling me in advance that Turkey was going
to do it. After about 6 years as the three-center wonder (I wonder how
in the hell I still have - and only have - my three home centers), I
couldn't bring myself to care much about the stab. Sometimes games like
this can get to a point where it's so frustrating you really just don't
want to play. Sorry Maslow, your desire for me to get fired up about
the stab came probably one or two turns too late. At this point, I just
wanted it ended.
I need to offer my congratulations to France as well for a well played
game.

*The Last Neutral Centers Fall*
*Sudden Storms Force English to Seek Shelter in French Ports*
Hey all,
Wow! What a turn! Deceit, lies, and treachery all over the place. Italy continues west without opposition, and also plants a dagger in the Austrian. Now two powers are reduced to only two centers.
We do have one retreat. Austrian A Vie can retreat to Trl or Boh or OTB. Technically, even though the deadline for the retreat and builds are both tomorrow at 8:00 AM CST, the retreat takes place before the builds. Thus conditional builds are allowed based on the retreat, such as, if Vie-Trl then build A Lvp, but if Vie-Boh then build F edi. If england got a build, of course...
Adjustments:
Austria: -2 (+Serbia, -Vie, -Bud, -Tri)
England: even (+Bre, -Nwy)
France: -1 (+Por, -Bre, -spa)
Germany: Even
Italy: +2 (+Spa, +Tri)
Russia: +3 (+Nwy, +Vie, +Bud)
Turkey: Even
See ya tomorrow for those retreats and adjustments!

Can someone please open up their copy of the map, do a screen shot, crop it if they like so it is just "my" zone, save it as a jpg and send it to me?
I can then send in moves.

Hi everyone,

Dc 402: Turkish EOG - Kenshi777 (Apr 19, 2012, 1:27 am) |
EOG:
First and foremost, thanks to Alan for his patience and dedication
serving as the GM for this game. Great service, much obliged as
always.
Early Phase: Turkey is one of those few positions (Italy being the
other one) where I have a clear-cut favorite alliance partner. In
both cases (T and I) that is Austria. In my mind, there is only one
pair of neighbors on the map that are truly forced into conflict on
the Standard map, Turkey and Italy. While there are exceptions, an
overwhelming amount of games will find Turkey and Italy going at each
others throats, either before or after Austria dies.
All that to say, I cast my lot in with Austria for DC 402, and
remained loyal to him for the vast majority of the game, only shifting
course when it became impossible to match French gains without turning
against him. I might have considered an R/T juggernaut, but my early
negotiations with Italy and Russia did not go well, and the
unannounced Russian move to Black Sea soured our relations for years
to follow. For their part however, Italy and Russia did an
outstanding job of containing the A/T alliance, and completely
stalemated us until such time as the German intervened against Russia.
Middle Phase: France and Germany outpaced their southern counterparts
by a country mile, dismantling England very efficiently. Not sure
what happened behind the scenes, but it appeared that England was just
unlucky to be targeted by a solid alliance early on, and did not
receive Russian aid to withstand the attack. So heading into the
midgame, France and Germany were gobbling English and Russian dots
while the south remained mostly deadlocked.
Then France did two very smart things. He timed his stab of Germany
perfectly, and he maneuvered in the Mediterranean to hold Italy at
gunpoint, scuttling my (sincere) attempts at a reconciliation. Factor
in that Nick and I really just had irreconcilable claims, and you've
got a full blown Turkish disaster on your hands. I found myself stuck
in the one situation I desperately hoped to avoid from Spring 1901 -
bottled up in the Mediterranean. So - full credit where it's due -
France did very well to overcome the challenge of dealing with
northern and southern threats, dispatching the north while containing
the south.
About this time, I turned on Austria. I hated to do so, as he had
been a loyal ally throughout the game. Really had no other option
though. It became apparent that I would have to concede to anything
Nick wanted if I was to break out of the Mediterranean. Which brings
us to...
Late Phase: Nick and I weren't too late in our reconciliation. Had I
not botched that one critical season of orders, we could have cracked
the Mediterranean blockade and held France at 17 or less - but then
the Real Life monster attacked. Normally I use Realpolitik to prevent
this kind of blunder, but Big Brother wouldn't let me install it on
this gov't computer. So maybe it was written, or in the tea leaves,
or Jupiter, Mars, and Pluto were in alignment or something - but I
misordered. Probably only the third time in history that has ever
happened. It was all downhill from there.
That, and I have to say France did deserve the win. He played a
masterful game from beginning to end, so misorder or not, I don't
think anyone can claim he didn't earn it. Well done, thanks to all
for the game, I hope to see you all again in the future...[Reply] |

Just went it seemed that a consensus would never be reached and Maslow would have to acquire all 18 centers a vote finally comes through that proclaims him the sole victor.
A solo has been granted to Alex Maslow [France--16 centers].
Survivals are granted to Ben Hester [Turkey--11 centers], Nick Cherrier [Italy--5 centers], Sam Buck [Germany--1 center], and Stewart Nairn [Russia--1 center]
I'm sure everyone
would enjoy reading end of game statements from all the different
players (past and present). Feel free to group email them to everyone
or send them to me and I will forward them along. As for the GM I have
just a few words that I would like to relay about the makeup of this
game.
First of all I would like to thank all of our players for their dedication to this game. I barely had to hassle anyone to get moves in on time and we were able to get through the entire game with no NMR's -- a feat not easily achieved in pbem dip.
If anyone has any feedback (positive or negative) on my GMing I would love to hear it. I'm always open to suggestions on how to make myself a better GM.
Thank you all for a great experience,

Can someone help please. I'm in the wrong country on a borrowed computer with who knows what software that can't open anything Jerome is sending me. We've tried a screen shot but zipping means I end up with a stamp sized map that I cant read.
Can someone please open up their copy of the map, do a screen shot, crop it if they like so it is just "my" zone, save it as a jpg and send it to me?
I can then send in moves.
Thanks,

DC406: Deadline Extension!!!! - offdisc (Apr 18, 2012, 6:29 pm) |
I've received many sets of orders! Woo Hoo!!
But I also received a request for an extension through the weekend.
New Deadline is Tuesday, 4/24 (at) 5PM MST.
I will let you all know right now that the deadline will actually be extended until at least 10 PM (and probably until Wednesday) since my flight doesn't land in Denver until 9:30. I doubt I'll be in any mindset to process moves. But you never know, so don't push the deadline too far.

DC406: Deadline reminder - offdisc (Apr 18, 2012, 12:57 pm) |
Hi All,
I only received one request for an extended deadline, but that included "forget this if I'm the only one". So I'm considering it forgotten.
Deadline remains **tomorrow** Thursday 4/19 (at) 5PM MST.
That being said, I have received a total of only 4 sets of orders! Come on peeps... either get 'em in, or request the extension!
Since I'm travelling this weekend and I've given the option to extend, I'm not going to be very lenient on lateness this round. Hate to see the board go mostly NMR at this point in the game.

I just want you lads to know that, when my child grows up, I want her to be
like you. You guys rock. You are so... so... wicked.
Needless to say, I think it was an interesting season with lots of
opportunities for Fall skullduggery. This is one of those adjudications
that I think is best appreciated without GM babbling, so I'll let you uncork
the results in your own way at your own tempo. My only comment: I was
surprised at what turned out to be one of the most crucial provinces on the
map this season.
There is one retreat.
Army Holland auto-retreats to Kiel.
Rene, you may override that with a disband within the next 24 hours if you
choose. Otherwise, Fall 1902 is due on Thursday at 14:00 CST.

DC421 - Spring 1902 Results - Corrino (Apr 16, 2012, 7:02 pm) |
Hello Players,
Plenty of action this round, but before we talk about that, we have PRESS!
PRESS: Can you believe it my fellow GM Hanish went back on our deal and is now Turkish ally!
Hmmm, can I believe that? Certainly Russia and Turkey are not hostile, but I don't exactly see any cooperation, either. Unlike, say, Russia and Italy, who definitely worked together in Tyrolia.
Oh, my G, what the F do I see? Where R they going? What's the E T A? Consider:
German fleet ejected
Russian sneak attack rejectedEnglish fleet elatedFrench neutrality debatedTurkish armies feasting
Italian units
easting... and northing, and westing kind of... okay not reallyAnd Austrian perfectly defensing the attack that didn't come
RETREATS: German F North Sea can retreat to Yorkshire or Edinburgh or Skagerrak or Denmark or Helgoland Bight or Holland or OTB.
NEXT DEADLINE: German retreat is due by 18:00 tomorrow, Tuesday, April 17. If the Kaiser would like to submit his retreat earlier and indicate that it is FINAL, I'll publish sooner.
Cheers,Chris

dc419 spring 1902 results! - coryfucius (Apr 16, 2012, 4:41 pm) |
There is some movement this spring, as well as two void orders, but no centers change hands. England and Germany push into French territory, but an English attack on St. Petersburg is thwarted. Austria fails to take Serbia. And Turkey runs Russia's Armenian fleet aground. The only unit dislodged is that Russian fleet, but there won't be a need for a summer retreat phase: The Russian fleet in Armenia has no valid retreats and is destroyed. Fall 1902 orders will be due Thursday 4/19 at 3pm Central (US) / 20:00 GMT. Thanks! Cory ----- Spring 1902 results: Austria:
