Game of Thrones - Blueraider0 (Feb 16, 2012, 12:22 pm) |
You swine! I've been working on such a variant, too. I even had a cool name for the article I'd submit to DipWorld "A variant of ice and fire." You ruined it!
Then again, this map is far superior to my own, which A) doesn't look this polished and B) is larger. My own map is sprawling, and so games would probably be very slow-going. Yours is tightly wound, which is great.
I do have some recommendations, however. We can chat here or talk on e-mail: blueraider0(at)gmail.com
1) Some variants allow fleets to journey up rivers that appear on the map. I think this variant would benefit greatly from that. Instead of having some of the rivers form the border, have some of them run through the provinces (I'm thinking primarily of the Mander, which extends from the Shields)
2) I started the game at 300 AL, which is appx when Robert dies. This is when the war really begins. Also, it ends any sort of confusion over who should control King's Landing. However, I really like how you dealt with it. I REALLY like the idea that King's Landing takes so much time to fully capture.
3) Targaryen starts with Dragon Stone? The part of me that loves Stannis is deeply saddened. Give them Myr, instead. I do agree Targaryen should begin the game with only two units, though.
4) Dorne should only have two units, too. And not as many centers in its immediate area. I feel Dorne would be the Italy of this variant, out of the way and biding their time until the time is ripe.
5) Interesting choice for Tyrell. I had, as the 7th house, the Eyrie, but it was very difficult to have it make sense. Tyrell is a good choice on your part.
6) If you give Dragonstone to Baratheon, you would probably need to divide Blackwater Bay into Blackwater Bay and Interior Black Water Bay, to prevent the Baratheon's from completely overrunning King's landing at the start.
I really like what you've got here, these are just my selfish suggestions because I've been working on my own for a while *shakes fist!* But I figure we can combine and make the best of both worlds. Either way, sign me up to play the testgame for sure!
Take care!

I'm keen to join in (if it's not too late) - I couldn't find the game though. I'm new around here (although not to dip), so I might just be clicking in the wrong spots? |

France has
decided that he cannot continue the game due to real life things that are

situation, and the current strength of the French position, I really have no
choice but to seek a replacement. I will get that out on the DC website right

DC 413 F 04 Adjudication - untitled36 (Feb 16, 2012, 8:47 am) |
*Six Centers Change Hands!*
*Fortunes Rise and Fall!*
*Naval Battles rage in the North!*
Hey all,
So officially Germany and Russia have lost all their original home centers. Yet they ironically each own two of each others centers. Still, until they reclaim one of their originals, they will be unable to build. In other news, Turkey took a hit this turn, losing Rumania and Greece. England and France struggle mightily to defend their own centers and gain the others, but with little overall change on the board.
We have two retreats this turn. Once again, while retreats and builds/disbands are both due tomorrow at 8:00 AM CST, the retreats do happen first, so you can send in conditional builds accordingly. Italian F Eas can retreat to Syr or OTB. Turkish A Rum can go to Ukr, Sev, or OTB. Builds are as follows:
Austria: +1
England: -1
France: +1
Italy: +1 (or +2 if Eas retreats OTB)
Turkey: -2 (or -1 if Rum retreats OTB)
See you all here tomorrow! Oh, and fair warning, I will be out of town this weekend (Fri-Sat), so I will not email much during this time. I will do the builds, but that's about it. I'll be back sunday, so if you have any pressing questions wait till then, or you can email a Blitz Moderator (Mike sims or Garry Bledsoe). But since no deadlines fall in that timeframe, I don't see an issue.
Thanks all!
John

Subject: DC406: New Nomad, and new deadlines!
Hi All,
I still haven't heard from Dan, and since the original deadline was Tuesday, I sought a replacement.
This being Haven, there was a waiting list a mile long, and Garry Bledsoe has stepped up to take over the position!!!
Let us welcome Garry! He is a fine player who I have faced off against across the board several times.
To give Garry a chance to get accustomed to Nomadic ways and start some diplomacy, I will push this deadline to Friday.
Moves will process either Friday night or Saturday. The next set of moves will be due on Tuesday 2/28, back on a regular schedule.
Thanks for your patience,
Michael

I've been working on this awhile (ever since I saw the maps in Game of Thrones and immediately my mind jumped to a Diplomacy variant), and am looking for any quick-glance outside perspectives/suggestions before I open up sign-ups for a gametest. I'd like to incorporate any last changes and get a game going by the end of the month, so please check it out! And feel free to express interest here too and you'll have a spot reserved. I know there's gotta be some fans of the series in DipCorp![Reply] |
Game of Thrones (Variants) Blueraider0 Feb 16, 12:22 pm |
Take care!

DC406: New Nomad, and new deadlines! - offdisc (Feb 16, 2012, 12:15 am) |
Hi All,I still haven't heard from Dan, and since the original deadline was Tuesday, I sought a replacement.
Thanks for your patience,Michael

DC406: Deadline extension - offdisc (Feb 14, 2012, 10:12 am) |
Hi All,
A deadline extension request has been filed, and approved! Due to the lack of a '24-hour warning', Valentine's Day today, my Birthday tomorrow, and our missing Nomad, the deadline for Spring 03 will be Thursday, 5pm MST. I will probably process them around midnight, but don't take that chance by pushing to close to the deadline! Get your prelims in NOW.
By the way, since the original deadline for moves was today, if I have not heard from the Nomad by 5 pm, I will declare them Abandoned and start the search for a replacement. I feel bad that Dan has gone MIA, but the rest of the game should not suffer for that. Until a replacement is found, *this* deadline will be continuously extended. I say "*this*" because after next Fall, any abandons will remain in Civil Disorder until a replacement is found.
