People who run straight home ruin the game & should just play Standard. Can win w/o ever getting home if play well. Interedict/destroy others as 1 disband critical early. Again: if want to run home then play just play Standard. [Reply] |

DC 373: Spring 1911 Retreats - AceRimmer (Aug 19, 2011, 12:32 pm) |
"This was the most unkindest cut of all;
For when the noble Caesar saw him stab,
Ingratitude, more strong than traitors' arms,
Quite vanquished him: then burst his mighty heart;
And, in his mantle muffling up his face,
Even at the base of Pompey's statue,
Which all the while ran blood, great Caesar fell.
O! what a fall was there, my countrymen;
Then I, and you, and all of us fell down,
Whilst bloody treason flourished over us."
Italy has fallen and disbands his final unit. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff. [Technically, France could vacate Rome in the Fall, in which case Italy would resurrect. I've witnessed stranger things, but...].
Tom, please let me know if you would like to be removed from the DC 373 adjudication emails.
England retreats to Bulgaria (really, how often does that happen?)
Fall 1911 is due next Thursday, August 25, at 10:00 a.m. CST.[Reply] |

DC 373: Spring 1911 Adjudication - AceRimmer (Aug 18, 2011, 4:24 pm) |
In a symbolically momentous moment of our game, Rome has been sacked. By the French, no less. In my imagination, different players have different reactions ???
France:
???Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.??? (Shakespeare)
Italy:
???I had rather be a dog, and bay the moon,
Than such a Roman.??? (Shakespeare)
England:
"I would rather be first in a small village in Gaul than second in command in Rome" (Julius Caesar)
(Note on that last quote: in most citations, the words ???in Gaul??? are omitted; however, seeing as how England is the owner of a small village in Gaul and is currently in first; whereas France is in command of Rome and currently in second place, the quote as stands is just nigh perfect).
The end-game proposals fail, but have no fear, two more have been proposed. Please vote with your Fall orders:
EFG draw
AEFG draw
We have two retreats. The English army in Rumania auto-retreats to Bulgaria. The Italian army in Rome may retreat to Apulia, Tuscany, or off the board. Please submit that order no later than 2:00 p.m. CST tomorrow, Tom.
So, there you have it. An Italian retreat due tomorrow. The other details of the adjudication I leave to your prying and inquisitive minds.

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

No commentary today. It looks like we’ll
have an autumn move as France’s
fleet in the MAO has been forced to retreat. Justin, if you get that to me as
soon as you can I will set the winter deadline.

Note: Spain had only 5 legal builds, not 6. We've been away from
the game so long I forgot RW counts all centers and not just Home
centers as our variant rules.
With this Winter we lost our Flying Dutchman who finally succumbed
to overwhelming force. This GM thanks him most heartily for his
perseverance and good humor right to the end.

Austria can disband ret of A Rom up until Mon Midnight GMT if he so desires. Note on draw votes. Proposals came up 2 falls ago. Did not expect everyone to get them in in time for winter so announced for Spring. 1 player never voted (as is his right) or acknowledged multiple notices he had not voted (a little less his right). Thought he still might which is why did not play up failure in S08 results. The fact I have heard there was not clear call for votes from some therefore confuses me. There have been no subsequent proposals put forward so dead issue for now. Mike S wants a diff map link that looks nicer but this 1 easier to copy http://diplomaticcorp.com/game_page.php?game_id=dc383
