DC383 S05 - LOOKS LIKE WINTER 05 CONFUSED ME - vegas_iwish (Jun 18, 2011, 11:54 pm) |
No idea why I posted what must have been W04 as 05 on DC. Deleted the 'W05' adjudication there & put in as W04 but it still looks unhappy. I apologize or whatever occurred. Correct map IS up in DC.
Need confirmation or changes for Russian rets no later than Mon or become disbands. his turn actually when about as well as can be expected while Balkans had issues.
As further background to the 'all for draw' issue that came up I must refer back to a ftf game (actaully 3 simultaneous 1s) back in Mass about 2003 or so. Melissa Nicholson, well known for playing around the world, + a guest star of note from the UK (name escapes me) + a number of local lumininaries played. What a classic example of how the game has been disrepected by those who supposedly love it. Were there negotiations? Seemed to be. Did it matter? No. 3 western triples, 1 for each game, materialized. I was R in a game & turned to T to coordinate some defense/counter-attacks. His reply " this is a rated game & not likely to last more than 5-6 hrs so if I sit down here I will get a survival". Why did he even bother to come to play? Why did the triplers? Calhamer never could see why soloes occur or why games would not stay fresh with back & forth flow all game. Point systems that don't focus on scs captured & reward survivals even in soloes attack the
heart of the game. Games like the WB 1s I did where players fall in love & can leave there backs wide open with no/little chance of a stab violate the spirit of the game. Even in a game I replced into (non-wb) 1 player actually complained that a move I proposed would give him another sc "he didn't need". He was just sitting waiting for a draw to be declared on a very open board. Not a DC phenomena - everywhere. No wonder the old age of wargaming calls some of us who knew it well...
