(DC 326) Gumball - Fall 1911 Results - Corrino   (Oct 06, 2010, 7:46 pm)
Go, go, Gumball!

That makes 11 years now of rollicking mayhem on The Gumball Express.  We still have all our players on board, even if two of them are clinging to the guardrail with one hand.

Highlights and observations:

. Italy continues his steady progress forward, stealing into the unprotected French port of Brest in the middle of the Autumn night.  That's another build for the green team.  What do you think we'll see, fleet number seven?

. Three English home centers now belong to three different nations, as Germany slaps the French hand away from Edinburgh and claims it for himself.  Is it just a little lovers spat, or the beginning of something more contentious?  I bet I know which one our English survivor in Liverpool is praying
for.

. Roll out the barrel, Germany is having a barrel of fun!  One more dot gained means the Kaiser is the first one to reach double-digits in the SC count and has passed the halfway point to victory.  Not that anyone is counting....

. Austria remains locked with Germany in the middle of the board, while his eastern fringe units do a commendable job of fending off that pesky Russian army in Rumania.

. And last, but certainly no worse than tied for least, our Sultan sits fat and reasonably happy in Ankara.  It simply isn't possible for Italy to eliminate him with just those two fleets, so I have a feeling we're going to be seeing A Ankara holds for quite some time to come.

Chugga, chugga, ...

RETREATS:  None required.  English fleet Edinburgh auto-retreats to Clyde.  No point in the OTB option, since he has to remove a unit anyway.

chugga, chugga...

ADJUSTMENTS:  Yes,
there are.  Germany & Italy are up.  England & France are down.  You can see chart below for details.

Choo, choo!

NEXT DEADLINE:  Adjustment orders are due by 8:00 p.m Eastern U.S. time on Friday, October 8.  If I have all the orders in hand and marked FINAL within 24 hours, I'll go ahead and adjudicate early.

Cheers,
Chris

By the way, we got no retreat from Gaul so the remaning fleet goes off the board!  This may be the end of the line for them... but you never know... surging back from no units and no home centers is always an option!

NEWSFLASH FROM MACEDONIA:
The Macedonian capital is recovering from a state of shock as it's relatively peaceful Prince was found poisoned in the royal palace. Security Forces will not discuss any suspects or evidence, but it is rumored that a large shipment of wine, believed to have originated in the Roman port of Napoli, was consumed at the state dinner last night. Soon after the news of the assassination was revealed, the top generals and admirals in the Macedonian navy convened and formed a shadow government that will rule for at least the rest of this year under a state of martial law. As its first act, the Shadow Government urgently dispatched orders to all Macedonian forces, overwriting previous orders and directing the forces to move West. Immediately afterwards, the Shadow Government announced that all official emissaries will continue to be received through the same channels that were used to contact the deceased Prince. Long Live the Macedonians.

We have one retreat, and it goes to the "now more than ever" withering hordes of Germania - quite possibly reduced to living on an island across that channel thing.

Who's going to hit the ground running and who shall face a first
wake-up call? How ought one react to shifts in the balance of power
and emerging alliances? In a good game of Diplomacy, every power
shall at one point face setbacks. Will those players who do face
such ones early on rise to the challenge? In any case, the game is
never lost or won in the first season. It's only the starting-shot
in a long Marathon.

Looking at the map, the first shots of the Spanish Civil War have
proven indecisive. Neither Britain or France have chosen to directly
intervene in the conflict. And the Portuguese have equally kept
aloof of Spanish quarrels and chose to instead renew the
centuries-old friendship with Great Britain at the expense of
France. The Grand Nation itself might well be feeling the chill of
diplomatic isolation insofar as Britain, Italy and Turkey all appear
to have designs on French territory.? Nor has fortune favoured the
Pr?sident in his Helvetian schemes as German influence now reigns
supreme in Bern.

Remarkably enough, among the minor powers only Switzerland and
Bulgaria have been penetrated by great power influence. Similar
Italian designs in Dalmatia or those of Poland in both Lithuania and
Rumania have been thwarted. Over in the Low Countries, the Belgians
have even made a point of standing in solidarity together with their
Dutch neighbours.

Okay, I'll leave it at that. Fall 1936 prelims are due on Monday!

Happy dipping,

Charles

I shoulda listened to my wife when she warned me not to go to the forum yesterday, but me with my big mouth: "Come on, dear, whaddya think this is?  The Ides of October?"

The worst part of all of this is that I'm stuck in a (likely boring) conference all day today and will be unable to write to any of you but will also probably be unable to think of anything else.

Eire Builds One But Gets the Unlucky Order of the Day Award - The Move to Gascony Gave Brittany to Another

All,

PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK ORDERS. Make that a standing rule. The abbreviations and board configuration are unique and I am still getting used to it. Plus there are quite a few versions submitted over time.

We have one retreat that was required: A Bavaria could retreat to Tyrol or Swabia or OTB.

In the interest of getting through Winter and Spring before we have an extended break, I auto-retreated to Tyrol. If desired, Adam can change that with our Winter orders (I don't foresee that his desired retreat would affect builds or removals BUT if you feel they do please let me know ASAP OR write conditional builds/removals). Winter orders are as follows:

Burgundy - Build 2
Sicily - Build 2
Eire - Build 1
Hungary - no change UNLESS retreat OTB from Bav in which case build 1
Israel - Remove 1
Poland - Remove 1
Spain - Remove 1
Ukraine - Build 1
Byzantium - no change

Let's have Winter adjustments due Thursday night at 9pm CDT and Spring 03 due next Wednesday the 13th at 6pm CDT. After that we will have an extended break until the 28th of October due to the Lord of the March's wedding celebration and subsequent tour of the countryside to show off the wife (so that the loyal subjects can meet her - a tradition called the honeymoon?).

Well, that should cover us. Can't wait for the next chapter.

DC 333, Autumn 1904 - alwayshunted   (Oct 05, 2010, 6:06 pm)
Hi everybody,

Germany retreats Munich to Ruhr, and we move on to winter. I will make it due on Thursday, October 7, 17:00 MDT. That's 23:00 GMT.

We have a draw proposed, a three way Russia, Turkey, France. Votes are not due for this proposal until the SPRING orders, which will probably be due on the 14th of October. I can't run the voting on a minor turn.

France:    Brest, Marseilles, Paris, Portugal, Spain, Venice.
Germany:   Holland.
Italy:     Munich, Naples, Rome, Tunis.
Russia:    Berlin, Denmark, Kiel, Moscow, Norway, Sevastopol, St
           Petersburg, Sweden, Warsaw.
Turkey:    Ankara, Budapest, Bulgaria, Constantinople, Greece,
           Rumania, Serbia, Smyrna, Trieste, Vienna.

Adjustments:

Austria:   Supp  0 Unit  0 Build  0
England:   Supp  4 Unit  4 Build  0
France:    Supp  6 Unit  6 Build  0

Italy:     Supp  4 Unit  4 Build  0

Normal draw stuff... Can propose draws up till the winter deadline.
Voting next spring, so this proposal is fine. No voting takes place on
the minor turns.

Everyone I sent my orders in at the last minute and thus forgot to
re-propose the CAR draw, but I do want to re-propose it to be voted on
as soon as Mike will allow. Fredrik if you and Bruce want to keep
fighting that's fine with me but I think the outcome is pretty clear at
this point...especially with a delay coming is there anyone who would
vote against such a proposal right now?

Today we bid farewell to our Oda, Joe Babinsack. Seems you got

Etc can only go to Ecg so I just moved it there, and we move on to
Winter!

Asakura: Build 1
Uesugi: Build 1 (or take the retreat OTB and Build 2)

Let's get retreats ASAP, Wed 3pm Central! I say this cuz I want to
get in spring by mid week, and then retreats by next Thurs, cuz then
Garry goes off to acquire his better half and we will have a longer
than normal turn, as I'm not sure Diplomacy is going to be the
preferred activity of the night for him and the soon to be little
misses in the Honeymoon Suite.

So 3pm Wed for those 2 builds!
Enjoy,
