Everyone I sent my orders in at the last minute and thus forgot to
re-propose the CAR draw, but I do want to re-propose it to be voted on
as soon as Mike will allow. Fredrik if you and Bruce want to keep
fighting that's fine with me but I think the outcome is pretty clear at
this point...especially with a delay coming is there anyone who would
vote against such a proposal right now?

Normal draw stuff... Can propose draws up till the winter deadline.
Voting next spring, so this proposal is fine. No voting takes place on
the minor turns.

dc340 DCI 2010 - F02 4 Hours Away...The Suspense i... - m_don_j   (Oct 05, 2010, 3:22 pm)
Garry,

Just a consideration of mine; might want to set major turns for wednesdays rather than tuesdays since many in this group are very busy during the weekends it seems, and there has been too many close calls in terms of replies because of this I think. Just my 2 cents.

/ Mikael

Fun times! Based on the bit I hear and the number of times that orders changed I am guessing that this game is proving quite entertaining (or annoying depending on your locale). Well, it only took 3 short seasons and we need retreats:
A Bavaria can retreat to Hesse, Swabia or OTBF Sweden can retreat to Skagerrak, Bornholm Sea, Baltic Sea, Latvian Sea, Gulf of Bothnia, Norromark or OTB
Let's get those retreats by Friday at 4pm CST (NOTE THE EARLIER TIME). If I get orders marked "final" before then I will send out the retreats.
Beyond that, Fall will be next Tuesday at 6pm CST. That will allow us to get in one last Spring before I get off for my wedding and honeymoon. A reminder that we will be on sabbatical from approximately the 13th until the 28th (The Lord of the March gets a Lady AND a trip to Rom and Tus).
PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK ORDERS. I DID THAT TOO BUT THERE WERE A LOT OF VERSIONS AND I AM ONLY HUMAN.
Well, that should cover us. Good luck with your Fall negotiations.

Garry,

There's a lot of suspense riding on this set of moves, isn't there?  "Will it be BYZ at -2, -3 or -4" is the biggest question, IMHO.

Just a consideration of mine; might want to set major turns for wednesdays rather than tuesdays since many in this group are very busy during the weekends it seems, and there has been too many close calls in terms of replies because of this I think. Just my 2 cents.

/ Mikael

That's Right - The Lord of the March is Card-Carrying DD FanBut it is Appropriate as Several Supports Are Not Used and Somebody Got the Business End of a LieSpain Even Hoped to Provide Support for a Super Convoy to IcelandOf Course Any Movement Away Would be Nice as Spain is Surrounded!Don't Fret Chris...You Have Company - Shape of Byzantium, Form of Burgundy?
Good luck with your Fall negotiations.

dc330: Deadline extended - dknemeyer   (Oct 05, 2010, 1:33 pm)
Hi Everyone,
Britain is traveling today and has requested to use his extension this turn. Thus the deadline is pushed back up to eight hours, at the point which he inputs his orders marked "Final".
FYI, if the full eight hours are taken I will likely be asleep and adjudicate in the morning. If it comes earlier than that and I am still up I will adjudicate immediately.
Happy dipping!

Of course I'll be voting yes. I figure B and F can take out Russia and 2 for the 2 way (sorry Aidan) and then perhaps one of them for the solo, but what do I think? I'm only in a race with China to see who gets to be eliminated first. Haven't had the time or energy to order tactically properly, and boy have Garry and Bill been making me pay for it (really impressive move with the forced retreat there, you bastards).

I'll be voting for any and all draws until they pass or I get wiped out.

Diplomats,
The Fall moves are in and I look forward to an interesting Autumn and Winter.

In the west nothing much happens, as everyone plays it safe. In the central arena Germany takes a beating this year, loosing two centers. And far off to the east Turkey is looking more and more lonely, losing yet another of their centers.

For the Autumn we have two retreats due:German A Galicia can retreat to Ukraine or OTBAustrian A Warsaw can retreat to Livonia, Ukraine or OTB

The the winter will kick in and we will end up with new units:Austria: Build 1 (or 2 if the retreat is OTB or the two retreats fail).Germany: Remove 1 (or 2 if the retreat succeeds)

Italy: Build 1Turkey: Remove 1
The Czar has managed to regain all his home centers, therefore the Russian Emergency Measures have been rescinded, and despite gaining a center they are left with no builds.

Remember that all builds can be conditional based on the results of the retreats.

Diplomacy World #111 Released! - diplomacyworld   (Oct 04, 2010, 4:17 pm)
Here is my initial Diplomacy World announcement:

Diplomacy World #111, the Fall 2010 Issue, is now available! Inside you'll find:

* Conrad Woodring on one of the most difficult journeys ever to reach a World DipCon

* The final installment of the Known World Demo Game, including all EOG's (from players and commentators)

* Gwen Maggi on how he became world champion...and others on how they didn't.

* Jim O'Kelley on the Rise of the Weasels

* The Epistemology of Strategy by Richard Maltz

* and sooooo much more

Download it now from the official Diplomacy World website at http://www.diplomac yworld.net

...and start thinking about what article you can contribute to the next issue. Or, at the very least, send in a lettter for some feedback!

Happy stabbing!

....and here is what Jim Burgess added when he decided I wasn't being forthcoming enough about how good the issue turned out:

Sure, you can say I'm biased because I'm one of the editors, but there's a great deal of wonderful reading in this issue.

We ended up with a great balance that ranges from Astrology to Epistemology (really!).

There is a rather chilling article from Graham Woodring on how he almost didn't get to World DipCon and lots of other World DipCon and other FTF tournament stories, some great articles on internet diplomacy, articles from people of the long ago Diplomacy past, and one from someone who just found us. And yes, you can check out your Diplomacy sign and ponder Epistemlogy of Diplomacy. All that and the end of the Known World demo game and more from our Postal old fogies and some gorgeous Silver Age press.

Check it out! And start writing something for us for next issue!!
Jim-Bob

The excitement. The anticipation. The wonder. The-- Oh %&$(at)! HE DID NOT PICK THAT CENTER! I'm hosed! I'm screwed! I'm screwed! We haven't even made it to Round 2, and I'm screwed!
Yeah. Prepare yourselves Smile
First of all, the color key and official player list in the format of:
Player Name - Color (Pattern)
Nathan Edwards - Red (Random)
Loki Falcon - Navy (Stripe)
Warren Fleming - Green (Flood)
Michael Hoffman - Crimson (Horiz)
Philip King - Black (ThinDiag)
Alex Maslow - Olive (Quilt)
Michael Penner - Forest (Diag)
John Reside - White (Gray)
You will note: you maybe didn't get your color choice. Or pattern. I broke ties randomly, and I randomly assigned patterns to those who did not voice a preference. I will not give any advantage in SC choice to players who did not get their color/pattern choice.
Now that you see what you've got, if you do not like your color or pattern... we can change it. So long as nobody else has claimed it. Just let me know what you'd like instead.
A couple of other items. I am your GM:
Adam Martin-Schwarze - Many Colors (Crazy-Quilt)
Anarchy has a game number: DC 345. Likewise, we have a forum on the website, which has an email address of
And now, the unveiling of your draft (and if I spin this out, it's only because ceremony and anticipation demand that I do so)...
Six SCs were not named on *any* preference list, including Sweden, which would probably have been #1 on your GM's list (though I also fancied Smyrna, Spain, Edinburgh, Berlin, Greece, and Sevastopol). Serbia, unsurprisingly, was also an unwanted.
Two SCs appeared five times. One was awarded. The other (Tunis) is still at-large.
Six SCs were chosen on the western half of the StP-Spa stalemate line. Two on the eastern half.
Interior SCs were by and large shunned.
There were two clusters of SCs: France and Russia. Not a single SC was chosen from the Austrian, English, German, or Italian homelands.
Two pairs of adjacent centers were selected. (Did I just hear somebody say, "Ulp!"?)
Some players may soon be wondering whether to continue in their original course of action or whether to pull up the stakes and move to Austria, Germany, or Italy.
Yes, I am already finding this variant immensely satisfying!

Belgium! Belongs to Michael Penner.
Brest! Goes to Alex Maslow.
Constantinople! Mr. Philip King.
Marseilles! Come on down, Nathan Edwards.
Norway! The fearsome ruler of Itea... Loki Falcon.
Saint Petersburg! The pearl of John Reside.
Sevastopol! Property of one Mr. Warren Fleming.
And Spain! All yours, Michael Hoffman.
Round Two picks are due tomorrow at 3:00 CST. Please find the current map attached!

NEWSFLASH FROM MACEDONIA:
The Macedonian capital is recovering from a state of shock as it's relatively peaceful Prince was found poisoned in the royal palace. Security Forces will not discuss any suspects or evidence, but it is rumored that a large shipment of wine, believed to have originated in the Roman port of Napoli, was consumed at the state dinner last night. Soon after the news of the assassination was revealed, the top generals and admirals in the Macedonian navy convened and formed a shadow government that will rule for at least the rest of this year under a state of martial law. As its first act, the Shadow Government urgently dispatched orders to all Macedonian forces, overwriting previous orders and directing the forces to move West. Immediately afterwards, the Shadow Government announced that all official emissaries will continue to be received through the same channels that were used to contact the deceased Prince. Long Live the Macedonians.

We have one retreat, and it goes to the "now more than ever" withering hordes of Germania - quite possibly reduced to living on an island across that channel thing.

Diplomats,
The Fall moves are in and I look forward to an interesting Autumn and Winter.

Next turn: Autumn 1903 Retreats & Winter 1903 Adjustments

Now accepting disband suggestions! I'm sure you all have your preferences. Feel free to try and convince me of the rightness of your reasoning.
