dc224 W20 - A Long Long Winter Delay - garry.bledsoe   (Jun 22, 2010, 7:34 pm)
All apologies. Unfortunately real-life is taking its toll and I am letting it affect my GMing and for that there is no excuse. I apologize.
I never published Winter. Here it is. I have Spring orders from many so if everyone can confirm that their orders are FINAL I will move us through Spring as soon as I receive that. If perchance I don't have yours please mark them FINAL upon submission. In absence of the ability to run them before that point, let's run these this Sunday the 27th at 6pm CST at the latest.
Oh...and as a reminder, there IS a DIAS on the table for your voting pleasure.
Thanks for your patience.

DIAS Proposal Fails
But Fret Not, There is a New DIAS Proposal for Spring 21
And, Since Slaughter is Officially Going to Be 21, I Guess It Can Drink Leprechaun Ale!
Undead and Faeries Lose a Center to the Ogres (Although in the Ogres Defense, One
  WAS Previously an Ogre Center)
Some Confusion on the High Seas? (literally!)

Well there is little of note that actually occurred. The majority of the orders looked eerily familiar...

However, we do have the semi-annual excitement of the DIAS vote that fails again and the like 13th one is proposed anew. And we have confusion? on the High Seas as a Rogue ship gently bounces the Trolls out and thus they require a retreat.

The High Seas can retreat to any number of places so just let me know where they should go.

Pending the receipt of the retreat of the High Seas, let's set adjustments due by Friday June 11th at 6pm. Ironically I will be going to see Shrek that night...

Adjustments will be (assuming a Troll retreat in lieu of OTB):
Faeries remove 1
Rogues build 1
Ogres build 2

We will then move to Spring with a deadline of the 15th of June at 6pm CST.

GM NOTE: I had a late request to move the deadline. I decided not to because I did not get a requested date for the extension to end and I could not hold up any more. I did NOT look at orders prior to making that decision because I did not want my decision influenced.

dc330: Fa36 Results! - dknemeyer   (Jun 22, 2010, 5:16 pm)
It is a sad thing to see the smaller nations of Europe and the
surrounding areas being assimilated by greedy Great Powers pursuing
their dreams of conquest. Yet that is what we find in the fall of
1936. Consider:
- On August 26 the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty is signed to facilitate the
British pulling most of their force from the region. Less than two
months later the audacious British not only keep their current forces
intact but deploy even more of their navy to subjugate the rest of
Egypt!
- In September the Franco-Syrian Treaty of Independence is signed, yet
while the French vacate Syria they continue to tromp through the
region unabated, angering the residents of Palestine forced to
garrison them
- There are rumours that on October 25 a "Rome-Berlin Axis" was formed
but only time will tell if this is but a whisper of history or actual
fact
Finally, despite much hype and anticipation the Summer Olympics in
Berlin turned out to be a dud. Concerned about the militarization in
Europe few countries from overseas traveled to Germany for the affair,
and many European countries also did not attend due to security
concerns or the simple fact they had been recently plundered in the
Spring!
(FYI, these notes and any like them are based on comparing our game
with real history. There is NEVER implication of diplomatic agreements
between players, it is simply juxtaposition of real-world events with
our game!)
There are no retreats (all neutral units are disbanded) but plenty of
builds this year as you will see below. Upcoming deadlines are at the
end of this note.

Now, for some player press:
***
A joint communique from the desks of Mussolini and Franco on the
unrest in Germany:
It was with unease that we learnt of the overthrow and murder of the
duly elected ruler of Germany. While we understand that many were
unhappy with his policies - and the militaristic bent of his regime
was one that alarmed the peace-loving peoples of the La Mere Italiano
- democracy, freedom and the rule of law are not things to be
disgarded in fits of pique.
This is why the rightful rulers of the Italian Empire and Spain now
make this joint appeal to the new regime in Germany: commit to free
and fair elections this year and abide by the results. Remember that
military force is not a legitimate way to settle disputes among
civilised peoples; it should only be used to crush non-Europeans,
Communists and the French - obviously, violence is the only language
that *those* kinds of people understand.

Press from USSR:

Unsettling news from Russia: The majority of the Great Soviet Army
Generality has been beheaded, their severed heads displayed on the
Gate of
the Kreml in an act of barbarism. Stalin is reported to still not have
calmed himself, hailing furious strikes on any map he happens to see and
every now and then picking officers from a list of those he deems
responsible, sending them into the Sibirian wastes. The press is
worried,
that the great leader may not survive another setback that fatal for the
USSR and die of a heart-attack. The public instead is worried, that
there
still is very much place alongside the walls of the Kreml...

Upcoming Deadlines (all orders are due at 5 PM EST, GMT -5)
Winter 1936 Retreats/Adjustments, Thursday June 24
Spring 1937 Prelims, Friday June 25
Spring 1937 Orders, Tuesday June 29
Please note I will be offline until the late evening the rest of the
nights this week. If I receive all Winter 1936 adjustments by tomorrow
(Wednesday) night I will adjudicate then. Otherwise, expect
adjudication very late on Thursday. As always, unless players request
otherwise, I will adjudicate immediately upon receiving orders from all!
***
GM Notes: Using Realpolitik is a real learning process. Specifying
coasts is really touchy and I mis-adjudicated twice in trying to get
it correct. For some reason, perhaps because of all the re-
adjudications, the maps I saved the final time saved as blank files.
While I am able to get the final map thanks to the .dpy file the
Orders map is lost to history. That is the map with the arrows
pointing to show the moves. My apologies, I will get better at this
each time.
It is certainly interesting to see the games through the eyes of the
GM. Some players change their orders quite a bit over the course of
the diplome period, and I can almost *feel* the ebb and flow of
negotiations based on the changes people make. It is particularly
exciting to watch the situation change, as it looks like things are
going to tilt one way but one or more orders change and the outcome is
very much different. For those of you who have not GM'ed I would
recommend it. Of course, typically I am only seeing the game through
my own eyes and lens but here I get a sense of how other players
think, act and respond during the intermissions. At this point I would
like to try and keep one game going as a GM on a continual basis and
it should be interesting to compare how lots of different people play
over time.

DC319: Fall 1940 Moves - dknemeyer   (Jun 22, 2010, 11:00 am)
Hi Jimmy,
I'm not sure if Charles will reveal it or not but the mistake was
mine: I misordered in the eastern Med which resulted in all three of
my units holding. In fact they all had orders that were intended for
me to be in LIB as Wesaq and I agreed. The error was because I forgot
Egypt has multiple coasts and ordered it in the context of LIB which
is illegal. Could have been worse; at least it was not a misorder that
wildly attacked anybody!

DC319: Fall 1940 Moves - charlesf   (Jun 22, 2010, 10:12 am)

Hallo zusammen,

let me note again that I enter illegal orders as simple hold orders, as has
occurred this season. I recommend testing whether your orders are all legal by
entering them into the Realpolitik module, for I don't always get round to
looking things over. I've been away in Weimar and hence both didn't round to
doing so and had some work to do first upon my return before getting to the
adjucation. I hope the delay hasn't overly taxed your patience.

Now what happened this season? For starters, Switzerland once again changed
hands - and a similar fate befell Egypt. The French may have been kicked out of
Scotland, but they've now made themselves comfortable in the British capital,
hardly welcome news to a Prime Minister who's now received similarly bad news
from the Low Countries and the North Sea. Shall England have to brace
herself for another 1066 or triumph as in 1588?

In other news, we now also say farewell to the last independent minor
power. Morocco (historically divided into a French and Spanish protectorate,
plus an international zone - in my game lumped together as one minor power)
finally succumbs fully to foreign influence.

The Winter 1940 Moves are due NLT 6PM CET on Wednesday, 23
June. Now, gotta root for the South Africans! Trash that
trainwreck Tricolore team! Spank those spoilt superstars! Bafana
Bafana, make your nation proud!

Liebe Grüsse,

Charles

DC319: Fall 1940 Moves (dc319) dknemeyer Jun 22, 11:00 am
Hi Jimmy,
I'm not sure if Charles will reveal it or not but the mistake was
mine: I misordered in the eastern Med which resulted in all three of
my units holding.

Lots of changes this lucky year 7, tho not so lucky for some...

In the north all eyes are on the double-breakthrus highlighting a picture-perfect Knight advance... (that's how they learned to do it in black knight school)

And on the opposite end of the luck spectrum, the Wizards look out at the siege of Waterdeep with great despair... will this be it for our Wizardly Warriors?

We have just a few retreats this summer...

Elven F The Old Gristmill can retreat to Pwyll.
Archer A Dragons Teeth Mtns can retreat to Knurremurre.
Pirate F HIGH SEAS can retreat to GRIEF REEF or Krynn.

Let's make those due tomorrow, 3pm Central!
Enjoy,

Dc 315: England EOG - derekthefeared2   (Jun 22, 2010, 7:15 am)
Wanted to say a few things.  First, thanks to Alan for gming and everyone else for an enjoyable game.

My game was actually surprisingly simple.  It being the 2nd round of winter blitz and knowing I was somewhat in the "losers bracket" I wanted a simple easy strategy.  I reached out to France and Germany with strong alliance proposals right away.  Germany was interested but hesitant and didn't want to commit.  France was on board 100%.  Made the decision easy.  Maria and I worked nearly perfectly together and swept across the board.  It took us some time to crack Germany but once he fell it was pretty smooth sailing.  I had work out various deals with Russia along the way.  The final one was to let him live which I probably would have kept if it hadn't been for his NMR"s.  I couldn't trust him to do anything.

My biggest regret of the game was trying for the solo.  I give a lot of credit to France, Austria, and Turkey for coming together so well at the end of the game.  With the NMR's and other events I really didn't expect Turkey and Austria to be so involved.  They both proved that as long as you have a unit in diplomacy you aren't licked.  Mostly I'd like to appologize to Maria, you were one of the best allies I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I sacraficed our sure shared victory for greed.  I hope to see you all again in future games.

DC287 - Autumn 2005 - Viper   (Jun 21, 2010, 10:34 pm)
So, we have a very uneventful autumn season, as China decides to take F Taipei off the board.  Therefore, the map need not change, other than to fix the two mistakes I found: the first was that F Paris - Spain should not have worked and the second was that I neglected to move A Nizhniy-Novgorod to Astana.  Those two things have been corrected on this map.  Thus, we are ready to move on to the Winter of 2005, during which we will officially say farewell to the Amazon.

Stats:
Quebec has 12 sc's - 11 units = 1 build.
Mexico has 4 sc's - 5 units = 1 disband.
Amazon has 0 sc's - 0 units = eliminated.
Russia has 14 sc's - 12 units = 2 builds.
Sahara has 2 sc's - 4 units = 2 disbands.

Congo has 16 sc's - 12 units = 4 builds.
Persia has 8 sc's - 8 units = no adjustment necessary.
China has 2 sc's - 2 units = no adjustment necessary.
Oceania has 12 sc's - 10 units = 2 builds

Next Deadline:
Winter 2005 adjustments are due on Wednesday, June 23, at 1pm CDT.

DC 306: Sengoku Rev6DP - Spring 1574: Otomo Sorin - Kenshi777   (Jun 21, 2010, 9:05 pm)
Next deadline will be extended - new deadline TBD.  I am scheduled to return June 27, so expect shortly thereafter.  I don't have much access up here in Niagara Falls, as you can infer from this extremely short email.

Sorry, thanks for your patience!

Otomo Sorin was the lord of Funai castle in Bungo province, a wealthy
port on the eastern coast of Kyushu.  Sorin was a powerful daimyo in

his own right, but was ultimately eclipsed by the powerful Shimazu and
Mori clans that surrrounded his position.  He is known to history as
one of the few daimyo that formally converted to Christianity, and for
requesting Toyotomi Hideyoshi's assistance against the Shimazu, an act

that ultimately resulted in Hideyoshi's dominance of all of Kyushu.

***TEAHOUSE COMMENTARY:  The Chosokabe trade their position in Pacific
Ocean for Kumano Sea, while on land their trust is rewarded both by

Mori and Asakura.  Hojo advances his naval lines to Pacific Ocean, but
stalls on the front against Oda.  Asakura suffers a fierce Uesugi
invasion of Kaga and Echizen, though only one of those attacks
succeeds.  And Satomi Yoshihiro quietly remains in far-flung Hitachi,

pondering the afterlife...

***HAIKU!!!

Desperado dream
Ceaseless wind turns tsunami
Roosters crow nike

***PLAYERS:

Shimazu Yoshihisa - Isaac Zinner (*eliminated 1573*)

Mori Motonari - Jim Atkins
Chosokabe Motochika - Jean-Luc Lefebvre
Asakura Yoshikage - Garry Bledsoe
Oda Nobunaga - Joe Babinsack
Takeda Shingen - Nathan Deily (*eliminated 1572*)
Uesugi Kenshin - Fredrik Blom

Hojo Ujiyasu - Michael Thompson

***RETREATS DUE:

Chosokabe F Pacific Ocean can retreat to South Pacific Ocean or OTB.
As I have conditional retreats already from Jean-Luc (thanks, very
helpful!), we will retreat this fleet to South Pacific Ocean per his

instructions.

***NEXT DEADLINE:

Fall 1574 will provisionally be due Tuesday, 22 June 2010 at 1700 EST.
I say provisionally because I go on vacation on 19 June.  If I can
adjudicate, I will - though I will likely need someone else to enter

the orders in RP and produce the map, which I will then certify as
official.  Any volunteers?

DC 332 - Spring 1901 Adjudication - cfisher6   (Jun 21, 2010, 8:28 pm)
And we're off!

Europe shudders as millions of troops mobilize for war and the seven great powers take their first steps on the path for supremacy. In the West, English fleets set sail for northern waters while an army gathers men and supplies on the East coast. France seizes Spain and looks to threaten the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, while also moving into the Burgundian heartland. German fleets occupy Denmark and armies mass on the border of the Low Countries. Russian forces have been deployed to the North and threaten smaller Scandinavian powers, while the first blows of the war are struck between Czarist sailors and Austrian soldiers in Rumania. In addition to moving on Rumania, troops from Österreich-Ungarn have entered the border province of Galicia and seized the tiny Mediterranean country of Albania. Elsewhere in the Balkans Turkish troops have occupied Bulgaria, while the Black Sea has remained free of military forces. In the central Mediterranean Italian troops are enjoying themselves in the Tuscany countryside while their Navy counterparts have set forth from the port of Naples.

A great start, no NMRs and all orders sent in on time! Two separate bitmap images are attached to this email, maps of the moves and results for Spring 1901. Also a copy of the adjudication has been sent to the DC website forum for this game. If you would ever wish to publish a post on the forum you can do so by directly accessing the DC site or emailing: dc332(at)diplomaticcorp.com.

Just a quick reminder, when sending orders please do so with the subject header: DC332 - Country - Year 0* - Version # .

Ok, no retreats so the deadline for Fall 1901 moves will be next Monday, June 28 at 23:59 GMT.

dc330: Fa36 - Final Deadline! - dknemeyer   (Jun 21, 2010, 7:48 pm)
Fine Diplomats,
Your deadline for final orders is just over 20 hours away!
Please note that I expect to be adjudicating in a very timely manner
tomorrow. So look for the results relatively quickly after the
deadline...
Happy hunting, all.
Dirk
