Hi Players,
Very interesting turn, I thought, with many of you playing for position rather than dots. Nothing truly outrageous but interesting nonetheless, like the English player claiming MAO and Italy convoying to Albania rather than Greece or Tunis.
Elsewhere:
. France colonizes Iberia
. Germany is sitting pretty with three big builds
. Russia goes in three different directions
. Austria is looking for friends, and
. Turkey passes up Greece in order to give the Serbs a noogie
As always, please check for errors and let me know ASAP.

GM's Request: When submitting orders, please put the game number and name, your country name, and the season for which you are submitting, in the subject line of your email. I'm GM'ing multiple games, and playing in multiple games, and believe me it is not hard to misplace stuff. I had to go hunting for the German's orders this time which I accidentally filed in the wrong folder. (It was my fault, not his, by the way, but I was glad his subject included the info I needed to pick it out quickly.)
Example Subject line: DC 326 Gumball - Italian orders Winter 1901
Thanks,

(DC 326) Gumball - Fall 1902 Results (dc326) Corrino Jun 02, 07:49 pm |
Greetings Gumballers,
Year 2 sees plenty of action all around the map. Some are up, some are down, but no one seems to be separating from the pack just yet.
Highlights:
. The English are topping the board by 1 SC, thanks to Russian help in taking Denmark away from the Germans.
. Meanwhile, the Germans actually leave French territory voluntarily. Will the French be appeased?
. Italy and Austria stay friendly, and each is able to hold on to what they have.
. Turkey keeps pace, however, by capturing Rumania. Will he regret having to give up the Black Sea to do so?
Ownership:
Austria: Budapest, Serbia, Trieste, Vienna.
England: Denmark, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London, Norway,
Sweden.
France: Brest, Marseilles, Paris, Portugal, Spain.
Germany: Belgium, Berlin, Holland, Kiel, Munich.
Italy: Greece, Naples, Rome, Tunis, Venice.
Russia: Moscow, Sevastopol, St Petersburg, Warsaw.
Turkey: Ankara, Bulgaria, Constantinople, Rumania, Smyrna.
Adjustments:
Austria: Supp 4 Unit 4 Build 0
England: Supp 6 Unit 4 Build 2
France: Supp 5 Unit 5 Build 0
Germany: Supp 5 Unit 6 Remove 1 ... or stay even if retreat is OTB.

Adam: 2009 DCI Champion! - jhack16 (May 19, 2010, 4:51 pm) |
Congrats Adam, you made it, DCI Champ!
To everyone else, (including you Jorge!) thanks for a great game.
I made mistakes on and off the board, and was responsible for a good bit of the heat Mike was talking about, but it was always meant to be in the spirit of the game.
To those I stabbed, Frank, Matt, Max, and Mikael, Jorge, Dan,nothing personal; to those I offended,Nigel, Adam, Mike, and in particular Jorge my apologies once more. Dan, I'm only glad I didn't start the game anywhere near you!
But, of all, my thanks and gratitude to Mike who stayed cool under much provocation from me and kept the show on the road. Truly great GM'ing!
Hope to get to an EOG in a while,
Joe

By unanimous vote after 16 1/2 years of game-time, all powers agree to a DIAS. By virtue of having the most supply centers under his control on this day of peace, Adam is crowned the DCI Champ!
With this incredible victory comes guaranteed entry into next year's DCI (and swift elimination there from).
I know things got kinda heated in this one, but that's what Dip is all about... ppl do get involved in these games on a pretty deep level. This game is by all means a stellar example of why you should stick it out and be patient, for Turkey sat on 3 centers for the first 10 years of the game, always boxed into the corner. Then of course we see his incredible rise to fame over the next 6 years, while France and Norway fall in tandem. A lot of players got evicted early on, before most of the drama occurred, tho maybe there was plenty of drama that I just wan't privy to.

Yes, Congrats Adam. Well done.
Patience is a virtue it would seem, but 1906... what a year. And I would argue that starting near me really paid off for Adam.
I think I shared my EOG statement a while back (though many of you have probably printed it and reread it 2-3 times a week) so I'll only lobby again for my inclusion in the 2010 DCI which should be starting up in a couple weeks, no?. Best game of the DC year. And thanks again Mike for GMing.
Good Game All,
Dan

Congrats to Adam, from nowhere it would seem!
My game was bleak from start to finish really. I think that Dan made the whole region unstable over a period of time, to the point where my only desire was to see him wiped from the dace of the earth before I was. I got half of that, so I'm kind of satisfied. Adam really showed that patience pays off, and sticking to the game where others may have faltered. An important lesson for everyone to review once in a while.

Adam: 2009 DCI Champion! (DC Invitational) AceRimmer May 20, 09:30 pm |
Thank you for the many congratulations I have received. I cannot help feeling bashful and toeing the dirt sheepishly, because as I quoted to Joe about two weeks ago: "Deserves got nothin' to do with it." (Unforgiven, 1992). I know we can debate just what "deserve" means, but I cannot escape the feeling that I have received this crown (a very comfy, stylish piece of headgear it is, too) because better (more deserving) players let it fall to my head. Having said that... Now that the crown is mine, I intend fully to embrace it as my own. I will fulfill all ceremonial functions. And I will not do anything that would tarnish or dishonour the crown (things such as: NMR'ing, abandoning, having nude pictures surface on the web...).
I will follow up with a proper EoG statement. Hopefully tomorrow. This was such a very excellent game that I hope to read several EoGs. [It was probably the best game of Dip I've had the honor to play in].
Mike Sims was superb as a GM. No higher things can be said of a GM than that adjudications were always on time and that his decisions were predictably fair in a consistent manner. Mike's humorous notes (especially the cautionary bedtime story about the player who did not submit orders on time...) added enjoyment.
This month, I was able to watch the Royal Shakespeare production of "Hamlet", starring David Tennant and Patrick Stewart, and it set my mind to wandering... I was half-able to cast the play from DCI 274. Jorge in the title role. Joe as fiery Laertes. Dan as both Claudius and as the deposed senior Hamlet. Then, after the three principles have killed one another, Fortinbras (Turkey) walks in and claims the throne. Polonius - Drew? Ophelia - Max? Gertrude - Nigel? Oh, well...
Again, I'll submit a proper EoG soon!
Royally,
Adam

Hallo zusammen,
the saga of the Swedish Vasas has ended in valiant tragedy. King
Charles X, cornered in North-East Germany, fell on his sword as Polish marines
stormed the breached bastions of the once formidable fortress of Stettin rather
than suffering the indignity of surrender and captivity.
Matt, many thanks for taking over the Swedish realm back in Winter 1652.
Six long years of your rule followed and you never failed the morale check that
befalls some players as their fortunes take a dive. I'd ask you to submit an EOG
for later publication while the events are still fresh in your mind, say by
Wednesday next week?
Now, being down to six powers, how have those others fared?
The Commonwealth of England seems to have lost its will to resist Stuart
restoration, for all its units remained immobile. This has allowed Stuart
heralds to proclaim Charles II King also outside of St Giles Cathedral,
Edinburgh. The Emperor can thus rejoice at that piece of good news while
more worrying reports have reached Paris from the "Midi".
In the Mediterranean, the Sultan conquered the Grand Duchy of
Tuscany, thanks to Bourbon support. I dare say that the Porte's court officials
are adding "Master of Italy" to the long list of the Sultan's titles.
Lastly, peace overtures have come to naught. The DIAS proposal
failed.
The 1648 Retreats/Adjustments are due this Friday, 6 PM CET.
Liebe Grüsse,
Charles

Hi Folks,
I've received an end-of-game proposal for a solo victory for Turkey, survival for the other three remaining powers. Ordinarily I'd wait until the next adjudication to announce the proposal, but the request came in so soon that I figured it wouldn't hurt to put it in now.
So, please submit your vote with your orders. This proposal must receive unanimous support in order to pass. A missing vote will count as a "no."
Cheers,
Matthew

Diplomats,
Welcome to a new DC game (and welcome to DC for those of you that are new)!
Our game is officially ready to start, and we have a specific number assigned to us, dc 328.
With that name you can find the latest information on the game on the DC site.
Please always use this name - dc 328 - at the start of your subject line when you send me emails. It helps me distinguish between the games.
Without much further ado, let me announce the powers and their rulers.

A few simple housekeeping rules here,
1. Our game will proceed with roughly one week deadlines on a 5-season cycle. A 5-season cycle means that we have Spring, Summer, Fall, Autumn and Winter turns. The primary turns, Spring and Fall will have at least a week before they are run. Minor seasons - Summer, Autumn and Winter - will typically have 48 hours for orders to be submitted since these require less negotiation (Summer and Fall are retreat phases only).
I will try to keep the deadlines for the major seasons on the same day each week.
Note that I ALWAYS confirm orders I have received. So if you haven't received my confirmation, you can safely assume I haven't received your orders.
2. I will grant any deadline extension that is reasonably requested ahead of time. Hey, real life affects us all.
If you cannot make a deadline, please let me know well in advance. Preferably before I send out the deadline (with the regular intervals for major seasons you can easily plan ahead). I may send out a reminder for an upcoming deadline if orders are still missing, but I won't guarantee I do. I will always try to send out my adjudications within 2 hours from the deadline.
3. I ask that orders be precise and appropriately labelled so I don't misunderstand them. Also, please note that I rarely check orders ahead of time for accuracy so you may want to do so yourself. If they are unclear, I will order them as a misorder. Typically I give the benefit of the doubt (if you say A Ven and it was really a F in Ven but the move order is valid for a F, I WILL move it).
4. When I haven't received orders by the deadline, I will register a NMR (No Moves Received). If this happens for 2 consecutive major seasons (Spring and Fall), the Power of this player goes into CD (Civil Disorder) and the player is considered to have ABANDONED the game. Needless to say that this is very annoying to the remaining players. It's also bad for your DC track record. To limit the impact on the game, I will try to find a replacement player where possible, rather than have that Power go into CD.
You can also contact all other players in the game. Actually, since this is Diplomacy, you're SUPPOSED to contact the other players.
Feel free to ask me questions during the game.
The deadline for the first turn - Spring 1901 - has been set for Wednesday 26 May at 13:00 GMT. I am based in Asia, +8GMT, so its 9pm for me over here. The large majority of you are in the -5GMT area, so you probably need to do some calculations to get your orders in on time.
I will confirm all orders - where possible within 12 hours - so if you haven't received my confirmation you may safely assume I haven't received your orders.
For convenience I will set all following deadlines for Spring and Fall orders on Mondays at 13:00 GMT.
All minor seasons - Summer, Autumn, and Winter - will have a deadline of usually 48 hours from the last adjudication.
Note that you can submit multiple sets of orders but only the last one I received (and confirmed) will be used.
Well, that's it for now. Start introducing yourselves, I'd say.
Let the game begin...

(DC 324) A Stab in the Dark - Autumn 1903 Results - Corrino (May 18, 2010, 6:10 pm) |
Hi Players,
Thanks to all players for getting their retreats in promptly. Parties involved will find retreat outcomes in their Autumn reports.
First order of business is to wish "Auf Wiedersehen!" to our unfortunate Archduke. You have suffered the fate of many an Austro-Hungarian leader before you. Gunboat is rarely kind to the Dual Monarchy. That's the main reason I decided to try the Fleet Rome variant in 324, just to see if maybe it would give Austria a bit more room to grow at the beginning.
As for the survivors, I have to say it's starting to look like the Land of Oz B.D. (Before Dorothy). The Wicked Witches are on the ascendant, owning
half of all the available SC after just three years of play. Can our remaining powers put together a defense? Yes, it's pretty difficult to coordinate when you're blindfolded and gagged. Better come up with something, though....
Below are the SC counts at the conclusion of 1903.
COUNTRY SC
Austria 0
England 9
France 5
Germany 3
Italy 5
Russia 4
Turkey 8

DC301 - TTP - Austrian Solo Proposal - Kendercommander (May 18, 2010, 5:43 pm) |
As the proposed Soloist [who is quite a few centres short and is a few years away from a legitimate one], I'd like to publicly support the DIAS, and publicly vote NO on the solo, even if it the second part IS just a hallow gesture now. I am flattered by the attention, though.
I'm curious if I could've wriggled my way towards the solo, but all the enjoyment is more-or-less gone from that -- I'd either achieve this through someone yielding centres to effect an end, or else through grinding my way forward bit by bit...
Not to sound arrogant, but no one else is really poised to be a board leader when/if you all stand against me, and it'll take years after my decline for someone to emerge into that role. And, if you don't stand against me, it's likely because of boredom with this game. Neither is a good option this late.
Ordinarily I am quite opposed to DIASes with fewer than about 3 casualties. But I won't derive any particular satisfaction from trying to wipe out any remaining players.
So, hopefully you all will vote yes to end the atrocity of war!

I am prepared to have only one EOG proposal on the table at any one time. However, as it is clear that the solo proposal has been shot down before it has left the runway, please let me have your votes on a DIAS with your Fall 1905 orders.
Thanks

Since we are broadcasting in the open... A draw was voted down two turns ago... I'll vote for a draw or a solo but its time to let this game go...

I'll vote for a draw but not for a solo. If somebody wants a solo they can come out and take the 18 SCs like everyone else has to.
