Christine,

What are the rules here? How many seasons of not changing any sc's ownership are needed for a draw to be declared?

Or are there no such rules? Assuming Sam will happily continue his game, should I put in my will that my grandchildren and their successors should continue to copy-paste always the same set of orders in this game until the end of times?

Thank you for all your patience,

João

They have changed the site and it took me a bit to find the DC House Rules, you will not have to change your will to include continuing orders for this game:

If a game appears to be stalemated, the GM may choose to declare the
game a DIAS if there appears to be no substantial change to the board
dynamics for 4 consecutive turns (2 years). This rule is most likely to
apply where some power(s) have demonstrated a stalemate line that cannot
be broken given a fixed set of defensive orders. If the No Substantial
Change rule is to be invoked, the GM will notify the players after the
2nd season (1 year in) of effect, allowing them at least one full year
to consider the implications of a potential stalemate. Any declared
stalemate will be a DIAS where all players in control of at least 1
supply center will share equally in a draw. Some things that may break a
stalemate are:
The capture of a supply centerDislodging a unitPlayer request, with explanation of why the game is not
stalemated

According to this I need to declare that some players have demonstrated that a stalemate has been reached and you have 1 year, 2 Season, in which to change the situation or agree to a DIAS.  At the end of Fall '15 I will call the game if there has been no change in the board.

Christine

A new look for DC! - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 15, 2010, 2:44 pm)
Hey folks, it's finally here. After two months of work by Fredrik, Garry, Jason, Dirk, and myself, and testing by Jerry and Jorge, we're happy to present you with a fresh new Diplomaticcorp!

A few changes are fairly obvious, most notably: The new appearance. Hopefully something a little warmer and "diplomatic" in the look and feel of the site. The old having been largely unfinished since we went live on it 3 years ago, we hoped to tie everything together with a rich themed ambiance.

But the real changes this spring have come on the interworkings of the dc site...

All the things you're used to finding here are still here - the Open Games, your Profile, the Hall of Games, the Variant Statistics. But what we have now is a fundamentally new messaging system. Since migrating from the Yahoo Groups back in the day, we've never really felt comfortable w the PHPBB installation we had. It got the job done of allowing us to track the explosion of games that we had, but it lacked the community feel and overall experience we want to foster. It had separate logins, separate theme, heck, it felt like an entirely disconnected site. Really, it was.

Now the DC messaging system is built from the ground up as an integral part of dc. All the old posts are migrated over, so your old content is still here - but going forward we have many new benefits:

* Single login!
This one is key, with the forum no longer having a separate login to be able to post or reply to messages. Now when you come to dc, whether you log in each time or use the Remember Me cookie, you can dive right into posts with a single click.

* Subscriptions!
One of the greatest features of the old Yahoo Group was the Daily Digest subscription feature. PHPBB didn't have anything close, so subscriptions died off. Now, you can pick - each forum individually, to receive copies of each new post, or a daily or weekly summary, just like in the old days. Reply to individual posts from your email, and DC can come to you. This should really help our users who cannot get to the site often due to playing from work where gaming sites aren't allowed.

Want to know when someone announces an open variant? Just subscribe to the Open Games forum. Set up your subscriptions under Resources -- My Profile, then Subscriptions.

* Integrated content!
We can now bridge forum content to other parts of the site, without requiring the framed structure of the old dc.

These are just a few of the key differences - There are many more, so take a moment to look around, explore the new forums, upload an Avatar, and set up any subscriptions that might help you.

Be sure to bring up any ideas or suggestions here, in the Help & Suggestions forum.

Enjoy!
-mike

A new look for DC! (Help & Suggestions) Dudemaster Jul 22, 12:30 pm
Hello! While I am not the most regular of visitors and this is a fairly old topic, here are my 2 recommendations (this is a partial democracy after all!):

1. This is important. The logo of the website needs to be remade. Now, I am not an artist of any sort, but if there are any on this website, why not put up a message on the front page for them to see? The logo is fine and its size fits in just fine with the [excellent] website design, but it is terribly pixellated and the letters cannot be made out. Also, it is not too distinctive to make a visitor think every time he/she sees the logo 'Why, this must be about Diplomaticcorp!' So for those reasons, while a new logo is not urgent by any means, why not look into it? There is nothing to lose!

2. [minor] On the front page, on both Google Chrome and the Opera browser (maybe others, I don't know) the [non-HTML] line break has the writing 'DC is undergoing some renovations - please post any comments or ideas in the Help & Suggestions forum.' over it while the writing should probably be above the line break. If this could be fixed, that would be great. It's not of big importance anyway, although I wouldn't call it nitpicking either.

Regardless of these fairly minor annoyances, if you will, the website looks a million times better than the old website. There is now a proper, fully existent 'House style' (a term used to denote consistency in the layout of a website) and the website seems much better overall and also easier to use.
Congratulations!

1. The Logo is always up for reconsideration if there are any graphic artists out there who can help out, come find us!

2. No prob, this should be fixed. Moved it up one line. Was just the wrapped (last few words) part going too low on the page? On my screen it was fitting fine unless I sized the screen down too narrow.

OHHHHH. That explains how the A in Kozani was able to defeat the Bulgarian attack. And here I just thought it was luck. Who knew it was divinity?

What gods do Serbs worship? I need to work harder on my prayers/chants/offerings.

Until then I will just have to rely on Flying Fleets from the Ori.

Seems fair to me, but then the Gods of Olympus are on my side. Herakles is leading A Kozani in person.

From beyond the grave - Austria's "famous" last words:
Never before have I been eliminated this early in a game. But I knew it from the start. I had been cursed.
I had played Germany in WB Rd 1, and only barely survived it. Yes, my NMR at the worst possible moment might have played a role in that, but I also like to think that having to play Germany had put me at a disadvantage. So you can imagine my relief when WinterBlitz Round 2 was announced and Mike said that they had managed to assign an outer Power in Rd 2 to almost every player who had played an inner Power in Rd 1. Then I found I had been assigned Austria. Yes, I was one of the few exceptions. That a given I decided to play an aggressive Austria. An Austria that would quickly conquer the Balkans, leaving it to Russia and Turkey to fight over the leftovers. So I ordered all my units south, leaving Budapest and Vienna at the others' mercy. The gamble I took was that Italy would not attack me the first year. And that's where I went wrong: Italy did exactly that and ordered to Tyrolia that Spring with a combined Venice/Tyrolia attack on Triest in the Fall. And again I had gambled wrong: since defending Triest would be the obvious thing to do, I had decided to defend Vienna. One Home SC down after the first year. But at the same time I had taken Serbia and Greece: still +1 SC overall. The bad news was that the England player had abandoned the game (or actually he never showed up in the first place). Big setback for me as Russia no longer would have England's threat in the Nordics and St Petersburg.

Now in 1902 I set out to stop Italy's threat to me. At the start of Spring I had a unit in each of the SCs and used all of them to put pressure on Italy: in Triest and by going for the Ionian Sea. I bounced with Italy in the Ionian but managed to take back Triest. But at a huge cost: Turkey and Russia had allied to drive me out of Serbia. And in Fall Italy returned and took back Triest by force while my units were under attack from Turkish and Russian armies. It was like the whole world had turned against Austria; even the Russian fleet in Sevastopol had been given orders to attack Budapest! Can you imagine?
And with all those units tied up in a very tight spot I had no place left to retreat to. At the start of Winter 1902 I had lost 2 units; half of my army! Then in Winter 1902 I had to disband one more unit as all but one SCs had been taken from me. I had an army sitting in the one remaining SC but knew that hostile armies were sitting in all bordering countries. Chances of survival for that army were less even than none. A disband seemed to most humane thing I could do for them. And I knew that this was the beginning of the end; no chance of recovery with 3 hostile neighbors.

At the start of 1903 with only a fleet left, I decided to give Italy a hard time. Perhaps Italy would make a mistake and I could survive in Tunis. Italy didn't; and that was it for Austria.

Guys, thanks for playing. Joe, you played Italy exactly right, much to my dismay. Again I learnt a lot.
Frank

Now one more year left for me. Probably will be denied access to ION, and ADR - VEN or TRI is highly unlikely either, so that's it for Austria.
And for my WinterBlitz. Ah well, I had a good time with Rd1 and still have DC302 left and waiting for The Dark Ages to kick off. And still GMing DC300. Always fun.Fredrik, thanks for GMing both my WB Rds. Hope to meet you as a rival, uh ally, in another game.

Retreats

French A Picardy can retreat to Brest. Or OTB.
French F Spain(sc) can retreat to Mid-Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Lyon
or Portugal. Or OTB.
French F Tunis can retreat to Ionian Sea or Western Mediterranean.
Or OTB.
However, the retreats of France are not relevant for the outcome of
the game since Russia will achieve 18 SCs this Winter, thus ending
the game. The retreats don't matter for France's or anyone else's
survival either.

End of Game
-------------------
Russia has Solo'd with 18 SCs ending the game. All others have
Survived, except for Austria who went into CD earlier and then was
eliminated.
I would like to thank you all for playing and making this exciting
until the last turn. I also like to thank the players for sharing
their thoughts with me throughout the game; it spices up the game
for the GM as usually one has to miss out on all the interaction.
May I invite you all to write your Endgame comments? About your fun
and grievances, your victories and your defeats, your GM and the
players, about the missing pieces to the puzzle. I love to read those.

Ownership of SCs at the end of the game is as follows:
England: Edinburgh, London.
France: Brest, Paris, Portugal.
Germany: Belgium, Holland.
Italy: Greece, Marseilles, Naples, Rome, Spain, Trieste,
Tunis, Venice.
Russia: Ankara, Berlin, Budapest, Bulgaria, Constantinople,
Denmark, Kiel, Liverpool, Moscow, Munich, Norway,

DC300 - Fall 1906 - Adjudication and... - bielf11   (Apr 15, 2010, 1:58 pm)
Fall 1906: the year that has been dubbed the Year of Truth.
After a huge number of envoys visited the Powers remaining the endgame proposal for a Russian Solo has been REJECTED again.
The leaders of the Powers are at a loss: how come that the EGP was rejected while all had spoken out in favor of the EGP?!

France chose to Hold all his units much to the benefit of Germany and Italy, who overtook no less than 2 SCs this Fall.

Deadline is at 5 PM tonight.  I won't get around to it, though, until tomorrow night at 10 PM.  So basically 24 hour extension.....

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

dc313 - today! - FuzzyLogic   (Apr 15, 2010, 10:22 am)
Hey all,
I don't know what I was thinking when I said the deadline was Friday - possibly I had my other two games on my mind that are due then!  But WB, like always, runs fall turns on Thursday.  Thx Sam for pointing this out.

Because it's mid-day already, I'm going to push the deadline till later in the day.  Let's say 8pm Central time, 0100 GMT.

That is *today*!
Retreats / Builds will be due tomorrow!

I'll be covering it for Sam, so be sure to copy orders and send to me if you like, tho I can pull from orders if you've already sent there.

Again, the deadline is *not* Friday per below, it is at the same day as stated on the WB rules page that it's always on, Thursday!
My apologies,
-mike

Hey all,
We're going to get this game on time yet!

Here's some spring results for ya, tho nothing from the French!

There is one retreat, but per WB rules, if all retreating units only have one option, then they're auto-retreated so the French Army Ruh gets nudged over to Belgium - Paetunya if you prefer OTB, let the group know w/in 24 hrs else the adjudication stands!

We move on to Fall 03 - due Friday, 3pm Central!

Not sure if I'll be covering it again, so pls continue to copy orders.
Enjoy,
-mike

Fw: dc316 summer 1903 retreat - coryfucius   (Apr 15, 2010, 10:05 am)
Since Eric asked about the winter deadline, I'll make sure everyone knows the plan.  The winter 1903 adjustment deadline will be on Saturday 4/17.  I don't anticipate having to go out of town this weekend, so I should be able to run the turn on time.

Garry/Mike, given the Saturday deadline for winter 1903, should we go back to the normal Monday deadline for spring 1904, or should we push it back to Tuesday to give players more time to negotiate?

Lots of center trading again with 7 changes happening. But the bg winner of the exchanges is clearly Russia, who gains two more centers. With the one in reserve, he has enough supplies for 3 builds. Italy and France break even, and England loses one center.

We have one retreat needed from France. A Mar can retreat to Gas, Bur, or OTB. Winter adjustments can be conditional based on the French retreat.

Also, the R/I draw is proposed again. Let's see if is succeeds this time!

Ok, I changed the overflow so the image should now expand over frames around it. Looks nice on the phone!

Tested the image again and now it works as expected, flowing over the frames.
Much better. Thx
DC301 - TTP - WINTER 1902 MAP - Douglas_E_Fresh   (Apr 15, 2010, 5:59 am)
"...due to the apparent cooperation with the Turkish. The Frankish Visigoths support the largest combined force, but both the UKGB&S and MPC match their fleets in number. It goes without saying that the Yugoslav legions control central Europe, but.."

Professeur Griffe allowed his attention to stray from the monotone report his adjutant was in the process of delivering and furrowed his brow as he stared deeply at the half empty bottle of Montrachet Grand Cru.

Was the bottle half-empty? ...or was it half-full?

The Professeur took another sip from his silver goblet and decided that unless the Frankish lines could be infiltrated and additional supplies appropriated in the coming months, then the bottle could certainly be considered half-empty.
