DC301 - TTP - Spring 1902 MAP - douglasefresh at googl... (Apr 06, 2010, 6:10 am) |
The distant artillery barrage grew more intensive and Professeur Griffe leant toward the driving seat of his modified Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, tapping the skinny adjutant on the shoulder with his cane. Despite the aide's nervous fumbling with the key, the car purred impatiently into life - and it's customised caterpillar-track rear wheels drove the Commander forward through the mud of No-Mans-Land on the Marseille border, without a slip or a slide.
'Eggy' Fresh's latest report was on file, although the field agent was sketchy about the result of the Naval Battle of Lyon, and the Professeur made a mental note to reprimand the Head of Surveillance next time he had the opportunity... although when that might be, the grizzled Overseer had no idea... All border positions had reported heavy fighting for several months now and the Professeur had a feeling that Europe was fast approaching the eye of the storm.

Mixed Feelings
My very first email to Russia and Austria proposed a 3 way alliance to 9 centers each. Once we achieved the initial goal, England was still such a powerhouse we decided to continue the alliance until England met his end. I'm very proud of the alliance and it's solidity. The three of us remained in constant communication almost every turn, and always moved in concert. It all functioned beautifully. Daan and Hamish, thanks for a game well played. We did it!
To my opponents, you all did well. Turkey clearly never stood a chance against the combined might of three players moving in harmony. Germany, likewise, could never have expected three enemy armies crossing the standard DMZ in spring of 02. He held on remarkably well, but again, sheer numbers were against him. France and England's battle at the beginning worked to my advantage as well, but almost ended up in tragedy, as I barely got to the chokepoint of the med in time. English fleets in the south would have been awful.
England did well the entire game. He continually kept trying to fracture the alliance, but by that point it was like we were playing as a single country, and he never had a chance. Still, he very nearly made a draw of it, and only through patience and trust did the alliance manage to finally topple the english forces.
As the game progressed, I hoped to find a time to stab one of my opponents (probably Hamish), but Daan would never commit to it, and I knew I couldn't carry it off by myself. I considered siding with England at several points, but England (wisely) focused all his attention on stopping me in the Atlantic, and thus had little to offer me as an ally. And I knew I couldn't even negotiate with him, because by that point I felt England was desperate enough to forward my email on to Daan or Hamish (or at least that was my fear).
Thus we have the three-way. But after saying all of that, I hope it makes sense when I feel just a bit disappointed by the end result. I really wanted to see a 2-way draw, but the alliance grew impervious to invitations to stab, apparently even from within! I guess in one sense I don't even feel like it was a "fair" game. And again, I am in no way trying to slight any of my opponents. You all did very well, there's just not much anyone can do against a tightly knit three way like we had.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It's very rare to find two other players so trustworthy and faithful in this game. Hamish and Daan were amazing allies. So while I wish we could have whittled the 3-way down to a 2-way, at the same time, I'm glad I didn't have to stab Hamish (or Daan).
Thanks to everyone for the great game, and thanks to our Fearless GM for sticking with us the whole time. We appreciate it!
John

The Undead Have to Fall Back But All Other Fronts Stay Pretty Stable
All,
An interesting turn indeed. Sorry for the delay. All should be back to normal now and I can be more timely. We do have some retreats for the Fall:
Dwarf F Fantastica can retreat to Endor.
Undead A Skellington can retreat to Uhl Belk or Necronomicon.
Troll F The High Way can retreat to Far Far Away or MERMAIDS LAGOON.
Of course any of these can go OTB.
Thanks to Matt for holding on with the Dwarves. Sorry you couldn't be in the final equation.
Let's have the retreats by Wednesday April 7th at 8pm CST. From there we will have Winter builds by Friday the 9th at 6pm CST.
Too Tired to Be Cute and Give a Better Commentary,
Garry

DC313 Spring 1902 Adjudication - Samnuva (Apr 05, 2010, 9:35 pm) |
Guys, I'm 7 hours late. This means that you had seven extra hours to send me orders. The one NMR we have is not good. The person who labeled their orders "DC131," had their orders not sorted into the correct box, and therefore got very close to their own NMR does not have my undying praise. ANYWAY,
Now that I'm done with being passive aggressive. Let's talk about the game. The German NMR means that France manages to make large gains into German territory. The Balkans seem very undecided, with an Austrian Assault on Rumania failing, but a strong position emerging for the red team in the fall.
I'll run Summer as soon as I get the english retreat, presuming that the orders are marked "FINAL." If I don't have anything by 3:00 Tomorrow, NMRs will result. I'm sorry I've been off schedule, but I'm still trying to figure out what my normal schedule is.

Hey again everyone,
I have been in contact with Alex and he has decided to come back to the game and finish out what he started in Italy. Many thanks to Mike for filling in while Alex was ill! The transition went as smooth as I could have hoped for for such a sudden turn in events.
The deadline will remain set for this friday, the 9th(of April, and if I ever make a mistake like that again feel free to let me know, I won't be offended or anything) 9:00pm EST as always.
I think that's about it, I will reattach the dpy file for Alex and anyone else who may need it. Best of luck to you all, and make sure you get those orders in by friday! If I messed anything up or left something out let me know!
Thanks,
Joey

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

Hey again everyone,

I think that's about it, I will reattach the dpy file for Alex and anyone else who may need it. Best of luck to you all, and make sure you get those orders in by friday! If I messed anything up or left something out let me know!
Thanks,

DC290 Fall 1903 announcement!!! - bobbarkerfan1 (Apr 05, 2010, 7:14 pm) |
Thanks,

This supports my earlier theory that Maslow never actually left. Wait...how do we know that the new Maslow is the same as the old Maslow...only one way to tell...Maslow...if you are the original Maslow...is our agreement to form a secret alliance still in tact? You know the one...I take Ven, Rom, Nap and THEN just threaten tio take TUN...but in actuality...launch my single fleet in a completely pointless gesture to circumnavigate Europe and end up attacking STP(nc)?
I hope you're feeling better. I missed you.

Michael, thanks for doing the work. I've GM'd one game and I'm trying
to muster the courage to do another. If any players haven't GM'd one -
it's more worry than I really like, but it does give you an interesting
insight into how those orders you sent are handled and, if you watch the
orders come in, how preliminary orders change as allies talk.
