Taking The Peace - W1897 Map - douglasefresh at googl... (Feb 05, 2010, 8:43 am) |
The journey to Portsmouth had been miserable and wet and Agent Fresh was not in the best of moods. He hefted the briefcase, attached to his wrist by a thick silver chain, from the cab - two burly members of the Reconnaisance team, bound for Norway, strolled behind him with the sort of nonchalence that only the truly deadly can effectively adopt. He decided he would probably miss his five years posted on Englands' South Coast, but the intense security screens set up by the paramilitary arm of the new regime were making life inconvenient, and refugees and immigrants were leaving as quickly as patriotic travellers were returning home.
And so to Norway. Trouble with Norway, mused Fresh, was that it was presently the middle of Winter, and therefore 'Brass Monkeys' as the cabbie had put it so eloquently.
Leaving the scattered crowds behind, Fresh and his swarthy accomplices passed by some darkened warehouses and padded down an ill-lit jetty towards a small sleek looking vessel. The gangplank was lowered and the three agents trotted up it and then swiftly below.
Taking a swig of rum, Fresh cracked his knuckles, rolled up his sleeves and began the TAPPETY-TAP of his report to Zurich. Seven uprisings. Fresh wondered if the madness might spread. He dearly hoped not. Surely seven players were more than enough for one game! What if all 34 industrial provinces in Europe rose up in open rebellion?! - It would be Chaos!

Yeah, I figured bla-Ank. I would have bet large sums of money that you would have gone that way. Well played though. There was nothing you could have done against an AIR, but you held out admirably in spite of that.

Ok, once more, a new Italy!
Chris Fisher takes the reins of the former Roman Empire and will lead Italy to it's glory, or it's demise, as the case may be.
The new deadline for Spring 1902 orders is now: Tuesday, February 9th; (at) 2359 UTC.
Thank you for your patience.

1926 091119: Spring 1928 Moves - charlesf (Feb 05, 2010, 6:02 am) |
Hi guys,
I hope I haven't overly taxed your patience by not getting round to doing the adjucation last night after all.
Anyway, poor ole Stresemann might have spilled his tea all over given all the bad news inundating the Wilhelmstraße. The Reichswehr reports that Germany's forward defence line in the Alps has been overrun. By comparison, the Reichsmarine's news that the loss of Hamburg was offset by taking Denmark might almost sound like good news. Presumably he now wants to trade in his Nobel Peace Prize medal for some new arms to defend the Fatherland.
So, now there are three German retreats pending. I'll adjucate once I've received them from Matt - unless he wishes me to wait until the Saturday deadline.
Liebe Grüsse,
Charles

In future turns, please consider submitting preliminary orders as soon as is convenient. You can always change them once you've had some time, and you reduce your risk of NMR to zero.

dc291 fall and autumn 1904 results! - coryfucius (Feb 04, 2010, 6:20 pm) |
Yet another interesting turn... and a seeming shift in alliances. France marches into Belgium, but loses Spain to a Turkish fleet receiving English support. England gains Russian support to sail into Sweden, overcoming Germany's attempted defense, and saves his army by convoying it to Norway. But even though England coordinates with both Russia and Turkey, those two continue their hostilities, with Russia regaining Rumania while Turkey sinks Russia's southern fleet. Austria bounces Turkey from Trieste, giving Austria an open center to use that banked build. Italy self-bounces in Naples, and receives what turns out to be an unneeded support to hang on to Vienna.
Two units are dislodged, but only one will survive the turn.
The Russian fleet in Sevastopol has no valid retreats and is destroyed.
The Turkish army in Bulgaria has only one valid retreat to Bulgaria, so I'll order that retreat. Dirk, if you would prefer to retreat OTB, please let me know quickly, so I can announce the change in autumn results.
Winter 1904 adjustments will be due as follows:
Austria: build 1 (the banked build)
Germany: remove 1
Russia: remove 1
Turkey: build 3
The deadline for the winter 1904 adjustments will be Friday 2/5 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. Thanks!
Cory

Press from England:
Turk sailors decided to roam
inordinately far from their home
they soon dipped their oars
along Spanish shores
and wet their boots in the sea foam
The English, who roam far and wide
will very soon have to decide
'bout who's friend or foe
because as you know
eventually, all take a side
and lest you think that we forgot
about the fine mess that we've got
in Europe's broad middle
it seems quite a riddle
a veritable Gordian knot
As in that apocryphal tale
inevitably, heroes prevail
with sword, axe or sabre
they cut through their labor
and relax - with a fine mug of ale!

Yeah, I figured bla-Ank. I would have bet large sums of money that you would have gone that way. Well played though. There was nothing you could have done against an AIR, but you held out admirably in spite of that.

DC 293: F1904 Adjudication - AceRimmer (Feb 04, 2010, 10:59 am) |
I will need retreats from Russia and Turkey. England has a dislodged unit that must disband. Italy has a dislodged unit with only one retreat option.
The Russian army in Warsaw may retreat to Moscow, Ukraine, or oblivion... yes, Russia guessed 'wrong' with his army in Galicia, supporting an attack on an undefended Vienna whilst not support the defense of besieged Warsaw. Someday, Chris will write about this moment as the setback that steeled his resolve on the way to a solo in his first round of the Blitz. No pressure, Chris.
The Turkish army in Trieste may retreat to Albania, Budapest, or oblivion... a very interesting decision indeed! Budapest, after all, is owned by a seemingly-friendly Russia. Will you? Won't you? Will you? Won't you? Won't you take the dot? Regardless, Russia would be wise to submit a conditional order for W1904.
The Italian fleet in Naples retreats to Rome. It's not worth contemplating OTB, as Italy will have to disband two units anyway.
I need Winter 1904 orders from England, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Turkey.
England: +Kiel -Holland +disbanded_fleet_in_Holland = +1
France: 0
Germany: +Holland +Warsaw -Kiel = +1
Italy: -Naples -Vienna = -2
Russia: +Vienna -Warsaw = 0 (-Budapest? = -1?)
Turkey: + Naples = +1 (+Budapest? = +2?)
If you retreat OTB, then add one to your tally!
Choose your builds carefully, lest you someday write in your memoirs that this was the Winter when you sealed your elimination from DC 293.

Taking The Peace - A1897 Map - douglasefresh at googl... (Feb 04, 2010, 8:24 am) |
".. that we can look forward to another 500 years of peace on our wonderous continent, and I fervently believe..."
Agent Fresh cast the evening edition of the Standard onto his desktop and clicked his fingers. Moments later an adjutant returned bearing the polishde mahogany box which contained the electric telegram.
While the public heads of the provincial states of Europe were beginning to plan the centennial celebrations, marking 500 years of peace on the continent. Agent Fresh had already amassed a stack of dossiers which suggested any hope of a continued peace was balanced precariously on a knife edge.
His final reports had arrived and it was time to pass the information on to Zurich, Agent Fresh began tapping his coded message into the device with the skilled concentration of a concert pianist. Already wincing at the response his intelligence would provoke from his superior.
Deep in the catacombs beneath the GrossMunster, surrounded by Carolingian relics, the transposed print out was handed to the Commander of The League of Shadows.

DC 298 Fall 04 Adjucation - untitled36 (Feb 04, 2010, 8:01 am) |
Hey all,
Interesting turn! In the east, Austria is under attack from all sides, as france, italy and Turkey all clamor for a piece of the pie. In the west, after a lot of manuvering but little open conflict, first blood is drawn. Germany and England swap centers in scandanavia, but the English come out on top as they also nab st. pete.
One side note as your friendly neighborhood GM. There have been several poorly written orders coming in the past couple of turns. Based on the 4th edition rules (avalon hill), that "a poorly written rule that has only one meaning must be followed," I have always gone ahead and adjucated the apparent intent behind the order. So, for example, England this turn ordered Nwy-stp this turn. Obviously Stp (nc) is intended, and since that order is legal and stp (sc) is not, I allowed it to go through. I've done the same with a few misabbreviated orders as well, as long as there was only one possible move for them. For example, F ska-Nor would fail, because Nor could mean either North Sea or Norway. However, if we had F Swe-Nor, I'd grudgingly give the player the move, since sweden can only legally move to Norway of the possible "Nor" locations. Likewise, F Mao-Spa would fail, because F Mao could move to either coast. Long story short, I'll interpret your moves if it is abundantly clear what the meaning is and you get the abreviations somewhat close, but checking those abbreviations, or writing it out helps me out a lot! (One final note, I believe a few turns ago we had "Mun-War" when the unit was not in mun, but sil. If the province is wrong, I'm not going to correct that. You're on your on for that one.)
Ok, enough talk, let's get on with the orders! We do have one retreat, A trl, that can retreat to Boh or Vie (or OTB). Of course, Retreats/Builds are 9:00 AM CST, (15:00 GMT)
Austria:
