Fredrik,

That was truly enjoyable thankyou. It reminded me how much more time i had at the start of the game to sync the plot together...

Stephen Lytton
Are you coming to the World Diplomacy Championship in Sydney 2011? Ask me how....

All,

I hope that my dismal performance in this game was partly offset by the storyline that I spun off with Stephen during the course of the game. My only defence is that Stephen started it, and I thought it would be a nice way to pay back some of the investment he made in the game. See the attached pdf for our conversation.

This was my first ever game with Fog of War, and I did not know what to expect. I certainly thought that I would get some more time to explore before meeting someone, but as it happened I met up with Mike already the second year. From then on I scrambled to collect as much information about the territories around me as I could. I left off exploring the south and the waters for as long as I could (although I always planned to explore the waters). Pretty soon I knew that I was surrounded, and the final attacks came quite soon after that.

Looking at the final map, I think that I had one of the hardest starting positions, with no home centers right next to each other, and surrounded by enemies, at least one who knew where the edge of the map was. That is no excuse, and I probably could have done better.

Thank you Stephen for a great game.

/Fredrik

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for."

DC224 Slaughter At StoryTime - Fall 15 Deadline Ch... - garry.bledsoe   (Feb 03, 2010, 2:24 pm)
A Havener's request is a humble GM's honor.

We have a request to move our deadline until Monday February 8th at 6pm CST. So shall it be.

Also let this be a reminder...I think I have confirmed receipt of orders that I have received thus far. Afraid I am still missing some. Let's get them in by Monday!

Good luck surviving races.

.ExternalClass .ecxhmmessage P {padding:0px;} .ExternalClass body.ecxhmmessage {font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana;} All,
It seems that our Troll King wished to disband his A at Anvard in lieu of retreating. Unfortunately the map I have still shows an A in Dancing Lawn so I will get that corrected later (there is NO A in Dancing Lawn!). The other two retreats stand:
F Grs can move to OwlwoodF Thw can move to Far Far Away

Given this change, let's push our Fall deadline from the 2nd to the 4th at 6pm CST.

OH...and one more piece of business...the fabulous Undead Lady pointed out that my original email only contained the orders as written but not with the action that resulted. Those with results are included here.

Thanks.

mistake - bobbarkerfan1   (Feb 02, 2010, 9:22 pm)
Hey everyone,

It seems that I have made another mistake with the orders, again mixing Vie and Ven up. Hopefully this doesn't change things too much.

Jeff, I don't know if this mistake changes anything for your retreat, so if you can send me an e-mail with either a changed order or the same that'd be great. I apologize again.

The Fall deadline will most likely be next Tuesday if you want to start thinking about it, but I want to make sure I get everything going correctly, even if I have to slow down the game a little bit.

Thanks everyone,

Joey

Hello Everybody,
First news is that the draw fails to succeed. The board gets shaken up a little bit this turn, and I feel the game just got really interesting again, after a period of static-ness.

Four retreats to be made by next year so I won't auto retreat at all.
German A Berlin can retreat to Frankfurt.
Italian F Naples can retreat to Rome or Apulia.
Polish F Sweden can retreat to Gulf of Bothnia.

I'm impressed. What a great idea to keep a diary. And to such level of detail. Reading it I felt I was part of the story. Well yeah, I WAS part of that story but I mean to say that for anyone unfamiliar with this game it would feel like they were there.
Thanks for sharing Fredrik.

Fredrik,

That was truly enjoyable thankyou. It reminded me how much more time i had at the start of the game to sync the plot together...

dc296 Round 1 Board 6 -Spring 1904 Results - z93blom   (Feb 02, 2010, 1:49 pm)
Blitzers,

Here's the resolution for the Spring moves, slightly delayed due to the not so Blitz condition on the Swedish highways this afternoon. About a foot of new powdery snow sets it tracks, and the condition did not lend itself to high-speeding. The Winter Blitz continues on however, and due to my mistake last Friday we have a condensed rest of the week left.

We are in the need of a single retreat this year, and it's the Turkish Fleet in Smyrna that's under siege. It has three retreat options: Syria or Eastern Mediterranean, or OTB. Since there is a choice involved I will not automatically move this unit. Maria, get in touch with me and tell me where you want the Fleet to retreat to.

DC 293: S1904R Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Feb 02, 2010, 11:58 am)
Italy retreats A Trieste - Tyrolia
Germany retreats F Denmark - Helgoland Bight

Since we had the Swedish goodbye last season, I thought it only appropriate to have a proper Danish goodbye this season. And -- lest we forget our Italians -- we have a Tyrolian hello. Don't worry, I won't make a regular habit of the attached images.

Fall 1904 is due on Thursday!
