You should. You are. Even if you ADD the age of my 3 kids, TO my age, I'd still be younger than you.
I believe Bruce Ray is the oldest player in dc, if not the world.

We dont track or ask for birthdate upon signup, tho it might be interesting to. Might be too personal. Also kinda fun to find out what age of ppl you're working w as you get to know them and not have that all disclosed up front.

Wood blocks, wasn't it rocks in Scott's day? And no board, they'd just hit each other the head with them. And that was Diplomacy - and they liked it!

be nice Mike - Scott is one of my regular variant groupies (though
he's not a fan of Balkans1860). So no pissing him off Smile

If you like, I can send you a list of people who turn their nose up at
my variants, and you can be mean to them all day long. Such people
deserve abuse. Smile

I'm allowed to be upset at Paraguay's starting position-- I haven't seen lack of sea access since Ukraine in Modern! I recently build a fleet just to see how it felt, the people of Ascunsion were not impressed.

Anyway to answer the question yes I have played on a real board, even though it was only once. In my defense though it was at the World Boardgaming Championships. I've never played the PC game though--too modern for me (I still listen to my vinyl)

I've met a few people in college which put them at the same age as me, but I"m sure a few are still in high school.

Guilty as charged - of all my variants, SAS needs the most work. It
was one of my very first stabs at variant design, that rolled off the
press back around 2000-2001.

On the other hand, my masterpiece is recruiting for players right now!
The latest revision of Sengoku (version 6.0, with the DP system) is
on the DC website. (Compare that to SAS, which never made it past
version 1.1)

Well, at least I'm not the youngest, though at 23 I'm not that much older. Irritatingly, I've not managed to get anyone to play me on a real board (game length...) so I've been playing email-based Diplomacy for the last 7 years. 16 has to be a pretty young start, right?

NNIGTFML w1842 builds (dc273) Kenshi777 Jan 27, 01:11 pm
My best friend's dad had three of his four sons, a cousin and myself
playing when I was age 11. (Yes, I know that's only six people - the
youngest one would get England and Austria) - we never played the
recommended 6 person rules.

Well, at least I'm not the youngest, though at 23 I'm not that much older.
Irritatingly, I've not managed to get anyone to play me on a real board
(game length...) so I've been playing email-based Diplomacy for the last 7
years. 16 has to be a pretty young start, right?

Guilty as charged - of all my variants, SAS needs the most work. It
was one of my very first stabs at variant design, that rolled off the
press back around 2000-2001.

On the other hand, my masterpiece is recruiting for players right now!
The latest revision of Sengoku (version 6.0, with the DP system) is
on the DC website. (Compare that to SAS, which never made it past
version 1.1)

Anyway to answer the question yes I have played on a real board, even

he's not a fan of Balkans1860). So no pissing him off Smile

If you like, I can send you a list of people who turn their nose up at
my variants, and you can be mean to them all day long. Such people

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing. The shadow, even the darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you - That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding onto something."

So the races of Haven continue their quest for dominance. I apologize for the delay; I was out of pocket a bit and then realized I was missing some orders (in their defense, they sent them almost immediately).

We have three retreats needed from our Trolls; however, I just realized in looking at the board that all three have only one option:
A Anv can move to Dancing LawnF Grs can move to OwlwoodF Thw can move to Far Far Away

Therefore I will take those retreats tonight and send out an updated map. Thus we are ready for Fall 15! Deadline for Fall15 is Feb 2nd at 6pm CST.

But what to make of the English venture into Sweden? Not to be outdone, Austria and Italy share some key gains pushing into Bulgaria and the Aegean leaving the Turk trapped in the corner.

dc291 spring 1903 results! - coryfucius   (Jan 25, 2010, 5:36 pm)
Lots of action plus some notable bounces to summarize this season.

England gains MAO unopposed, as France sails off to NAO. Germany's attempt to cross the Maginot line is stymied by stiff French resistance (I know I'm one war too early, but it's the right spot!). Russia foils England's attack on St. Petersburg, as well as Germany's attempt to move into Prussia. Yet again, Russia and Turkey bounce in the Black Sea. Turkey sails westward to Tyrrhenian Sea.

The most notable action takes place around Austria, where Russia pushes Italy out of Vienna, and Turkey marches unopposed into Serbia. Meanwhile, the Austrian and Italian fleets bounce each other in Apulia.

There is one summer 1903 retreat due, as the Italian army in Vienna has been dislodged. Marc, since this unit has only one valid retreat option, I'll take the liberty of assuming that it will retreat to Bohemia, to keep the game moving. If you would prefer to retreat OTB instead, please let me know before the normal Tuesday 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT summer retreat deadline, and I will update the game status.

Fall 1903 orders will be due Thursday 1/28 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT. Thanks!

Cory

NNIGTFML f1842 (possum warfare) - packrat   (Jan 25, 2010, 4:35 pm)
Sorry guys - stuff came up. being unemployed just sucks.

FWIW - had I submitted orders the only thing that would have changed
is that the fleet in BDA would now be in ANT. LAP and SRZ would
still have fallen. Actually, the support for ANT to POT would have been
cut too. Oh well.

Retreat the fleet OTB and disband the army.

DC300 - Spring 1901 Adjudication *** CORRECTION **... - bielf11   (Jan 25, 2010, 4:21 pm)
I have to apologise to all of you, because I already made an error. An incorrect adjudication was sent out because I hadn't copied all orders correctly. Please accept my humble apologies.
In addition, I have changed the format of the images from JPG to GIF as this is the same format the DC site uses. If anyone has problems viewing the GIF images, please let me know.

So here we go with the correct adjudication. These only have an impact on France and Germany (positionally. Strategically the ramifications may be much bigger).

Reports of war are coming from all across Europe.
Austria fought the Italians in Triest and although the Viennese army failed to set up camp in Triest, it did manage to keep the Italians out.
To the east Austrian and Russian armies both claimed Galicia, and bounced.
The Russian and the Turkish fleet had a similar argument and identical results over the Black Sea.
The Germans sent their army in Munich to scout the Austrian mountains in Tyrolia. Apparently totally to the surprise of the Austrians.
Only France and England did not have any collisions.

If this Spring sets the mood for the coming seasons, we'll see the lands and waters color red with the blood of young privates and sailors.
Wives and children are left behind crying for the loss of their husbands and fathers.
In all countries citizens are calling upon their leaders to find a diplomatic solution.

DC-272 New Turkey - FuzzyLogic   (Jan 25, 2010, 4:00 pm)
If my read is correct, this is now a 4-player game. Garry / Joe / Mark / me?

Why are various draws being circulated that will exclude France and/or Florence? Why am I so cool that I'm being included in the various draws? Who is trying to get more than a 4-way out of this, and what is your plan to do so? Am I included in that plan? If so, let's do it. If not, may you burn in a pit of smouldering luke-warm coals until such time as you get annoyed and have to smoulder there longer.

Yay Team Purple!
I played in Penner's first draft of this map and got hammered, so I figured why not get hammered again. Has everyone picked their national songs? I must admit being purple I now cant stop humming "He's a one-eyed one-horned flying purple people-eater..." so that's ours. What's going on here? It looks like I'm attacking - well almost everyone. Go me.

Next deadline: Fall 2001 orders are due on Friday, January 29, at 1pm CST. Most of you already have orders in, but they are allowed to change between now and Friday, especially considering the regime change in the purple states.
