1648 091010: Spring 1651 Moves - charlesf (Nov 18, 2009, 2:36 pm) |
Grüß Gott!
War has now reached the Baltic littoral as Polish forces advance on Sweden's positions. I trust Queen Christine will be prevailed upon not to spend as much time with her French philosopher and look towards the defence of the realm. In other news, the English Navy has for the first time managed to gain the command of the nation's home waters while on the continent the French and Austrians have made short work of the autonomy formerly enjoyed in Alemannic lands. They must now enviously look to the Italians who as yet still partially remain masters of their own affairs. Perhaps they're the beneficiaries of the Turkish-Spanish struggle over the Central Mediterranean in that it keeps those meddlesome "barbarians" distracted. How delighted would such an Italian patriot as Niccolo Macchiavelli be!
Still, it has been a bad couple of months for most lesser powers. Next to their demise in Central Europe, both Algiers' and Moldavia's independence has bitten the dust. At least the proud Ukrainian Cossacks and Central Asian emirs can boast of being free of foreign yoke.
Since there are no pending retreats, we move directly on to the fall season. Preliminary orders are due on 23 November, 6 PM CET (Central European Time, i.e. GMT+1).
Oh, and let me counsel everyone to take a look at one of those maps with province labels on them. I think even those most familiar with the variant could benefit from a little map study.
I for my part am very excited that my other variant playtest is about to start. Harvey, Mikael and Dirk shall be participating in that 1926 game. So if you wish to keep track of their fortunes in that inter-war period scenario, let me know and I'll sign you up as an observer.
Liebe Grüsse,
Charles

Massive apologies from me to the players, I did not follow up on the
Breton retreat in a timely manner.
A Powys retreats to Chester.
If anyone would like an extension on the next deadline due to this, 24
hours will be allowed. Otherwise, the deadline for the Fall remains
1700 EST tomorrow, Thursday.
Also be advised that we have our Anglo-Saxon player Nick travelling
overseas right now through 12/2. Limited net access is to be
expected.
Thanks -
B.

Honored Kings of the Dark Ages:
Spring is upon us, and it definitely appears to be a time of new
beginnings...the Scots pull away from the Gaelic shores, and both the
Gaels and Scots agree to an Anglo-Saxon presence in Powys, perhaps as
a buffer between them? Meanwhile - the Danes are handed their first
defeat in Neustria, but don't shed too many tears for their destroyed
army, as they successfully advanced into Rogaland. An interesting
fall season is ahead of us, but first - a single retreat - the
dislodged Breton army in Powys may retreat to Gwent, Pengwern,
Chester, or OTB.
Matt if you will please broadcast that retreat to everyone, we can
proceed to the next deadline - Fall 831, November 19th, 1700 EST.

Today let's take a look at this word, since many of you have not actually submitted these yet, despite a number of days having passed. Nobody is late, there are no NMRs to speak of, but there are still some things lacking - namely, the use of prelim orders.
Pre-Lim
Pre: Coming Before, or preceeding
Lim: An acronym for the latin, "Latesus Isthus Movessus", aka LIM.
(Some would argue that Pre is derived from the latin "Probablus Reallyus Earlius" however this is a common misconception, since there is no probability in sending orders early. They will prevent you from being late 100% of the time, without exception)
So Pre-Lims are what you send in BEFORE your orders are late. Sometimes even early.
Sometimes they will be premature. After all, Premautre and Prelims start with the same syllable, namely the pre. Premature in the case of Diplomacy is not bad, it is simple pre (prior to) Lim (latesus isthus movessus), or, not being late. Prelim orders can always be changed, up until the deadline.
Enjoy.

Well, after I forgot to remind you, you still all got orders in on time. Thank you for warming my heart's cockles.
It is a year of entertainment, with the Indian fleet in Iraq sliding into Iran; the Indian fleet in Sri Lanka getting disbanded; and (for the first time in a long time) meaningful orders out of Japan.
The damage?
The Indian army in Tibet will retreat to Mongolia unless I receive an OTB.
The Indian fleet in Sri Lanka is disbanded.
The Indonesian fleet in Yellow Sea is also disbanded.
The Persian fleet in Iran may retreat to Caucasus, Caspian Sea, or OTB.
Retreats due tomorrow at 1400 CST.
For W1908 (due on Friday), we'll see busy Indonesia factories. The numbers below assume no OTB retreats:

All,
We have a Turkish retreat from Black Sea to Ankara and one new Fleet and Army build (StPnc and Vienna).
Most interestingly, we have a 3-way draw proposed between Russia/Austria/Germany. That would mean survival for Turkey and Italy. Please vote on these for our next turn. IF the draw passes, it occurs before the turn's moves. IMPORTANT: a lack of vote by one of the 5 remaining countries simply counts as an abstention and does NOT affect the passing of a vote! Thus, if someone forgets to vote or has an NMR, it would not reject an EGP if all of the other 4 vote yes.
I will send out a map later tonight.
Spring04 deadline - Monday November 23rd at 6pm CST.

You think Road Runner
I think Coyote
"Maximus Hungrumus"
That maybe why we fought for the Galapagos Isles
But I am glad we watched something other than "Schoolhouse Rock"

I see you learned your Latin from Warner Brothers cartoons, specifically the Road Runner, e.g. "Fastius Avianae"....

Enjoy.
