DC-272 Milan's call to arms - chaosonejoe   (Sep 28, 2009, 10:30 am)
A little laziness from our friend in Milan?

I'm in danger of sliding down a slippery slope here, and wish not to defend my actions, but the point with our friend Nick is simply this:

Who among us would acquiesce to a Non-Agression Pact, if the return on the investment was "you can have the home centers of France"

Very strange diplomacy there.

Nick is quite exhuberent, and I can understand that, but as I explained to him, deals are made on specifics, not in generalities. Less strange is that Nick opened up a dialogue between two of his neighbors, who readily decided that having a loose cannon overfocused on generalities and unwilling to negotiate as an ally was not a suitable arrangement.

Regards,
Joe

Mr Wolf,

My orders will come in due time, however would it be possible for you to circulate the following press in the name of Milan to all player?

Gentlemen,

As we have recently seen. The evil rulers of Florence and Venice have already committed blasphemy by declare war against God. Now they betrayed Milan after a pact of non agression was agreed between us. These two powers prove that there is nothing holy, nothing safe from their evil grasp.

I was surprised but did admire the well coordinated move against me. I understand completely the drive to prevent Milan from growing too strong in the north and what was probably perceived through the proposed pact to lead to me directing what should happen in the centre.
For all the brilliantly executed move, and considering that I directly fed Florence with information about my moves, I do perceive two cracks in the stone.
1) If you had hoped to gain credibility in the begining of the game, you no longer can, as players fear those who cannot hold to a pact. Not that it is expected to be binding, but guys you barely lasted 1 year before plotting against one of your allies. Even for Realpolitik this is considered cold! lol
2) As in Physics, "nothing is gained, nothing is lost, all is transformed". What served as justification to come at blows with Milan, namlely Balance of Power, has now completely shifted. The potential that I was glancing at, is now in the hands of Florence. Milan is no longer the threat, Florence is.

Now rest assured I hold no grudges, to the contrary I applaud the skill demonstrated. Now I can only hope to regain what's mine... and I'm not going to ask 'who is with me'... for we are all alone, but rather appeal to everyone's sens of balance. For if one player shines to brightly, he risks blinding all others.

As we are in no court, I am not going to plead a case, nor am i going to go further in my call to arms. We each have a version of the story, but Florence was always out for blood when Milan was trying to work for peace and stability (not that I am noble in nature, but the status quo work perfectly for me at the time).

My argument is simple, Milan is not ruled by a shining prince of moral and principles, and apart for His Holiness, I have strong doubts any amonst us would be able to claim so. We are but a pack of starving wolves fighting for SCs, using all the tricks in the books to achieve our objectives.
Oh, but my moral is so low that do not even care if I have been blighted. I am willing to forgive, I am willing to make alliances, willing to do anything if it means no single player gets ahead of the game. Balance of power is my paradigm.

Normally, I would be more than happy to join a war against the leader, but I really can't.   The governments of Milan and Austria are bent on my destruction, and have offered me no reason to fall on my sword.  France will fight until the last, and will support anyone who wishes destruction on Milan and Austria.  Revanche, mes amis!

Nick, Prince of Milan

DC 224 Slaughter of Weekend Time - Summer 11 - Rea... - former.trout   (Sep 27, 2009, 2:42 pm)
Heya folks,

Two corrections to make from the Spring turn - which my flue-addled brain messed up.  The Undead fleet in Terabithia did support Thunderhead and the Troll army in Cave Of Ordeals moved to Newa River.  The former has no bearing on the pieces on the board, but the latter prevented that Trollish bounce.  My apologies for the oops.

Regarding the retreats, they are quick and simple.  The Faeries sail to Horned Bay, the Pirates fittingly find refuge in the Pirate Shoals.

Deadline for Fall 11 orders will be set for Friday, October 2nd (11:59 PM GMT.)

Roger on with the Rogering...  And Ted on with the Tedding!

DC269 Fall 1903 - FLTeacher   (Sep 27, 2009, 10:13 am)
please eric, you are the only one who has to send in a retreat. please do it ASAP. This game has gone on WAY TOO LONG.

Everyone, can we please not take the entire time given? Can we please pick-up the pace?

Well, the draw proposal failed to receive unanimous consent, so the game forges on.  One note before we move on.  Some of you apologized for sending in a number of sets of orders.  I'd rather see that than have one final set near the deadline.  Some orders make me a lot more comfortable even if they change later on.  Another thing, though, is that it makes it a LOT easier on me if, when you change a single move, you resubmit all your moves.  That way I don't have to fish through a number of emails to patch your moves together.  A lot of GMs won't even do that.

Now, on to the turn:  Not a whole lot of units actually moved around this turn, but a lot happened, so here are your moves:

DC266 Fall 1905 Results - MattTheLesser   (Sep 26, 2009, 7:55 pm)
Well the story of the season is definitely in Austria-Hungary, where the
Archduke sees three centers fall to three different nations, leaving him
with a solitary dot in Vienna. In fact, other than those three, the
only other supply center to change hands is Warsaw, which is captured by
the Germans thanks to a support cut by none other than the dying
Austrians. In the west it appears the small powers of England, France,
and Italy have all bonded together against superpower Germany, but the
Germans pull out some crafty movements to protect Brest from a
three-pronged attack. I can't wait to see how that area of the board
ends up!

There are two retreats: Austrian A Venice may retreat to Apulia,
Tuscany, Tyrolia, or OTB, and Russian A Warsaw may retreat to Livonia,
Moscow, or OTB. These retreats and the Winter 1905 adjustments will be
due this coming Tuesday, September 29, at 9 pm eastern. Adjustments due
are listed below the adjudication, adjustments may be conditional on the
retreats, and, as always, I will adjudicate as soon as I have received
orders from all necessary parties.

ENGINEERED PRESS RELEASES
-------------------------
A Rom gets down on their knees and prays for mercy!

=================================================================

Dearest Bertie,

And finally we come fully to grips with the Islamic unbelievers.

If not already ordered, can you please exert the maximum
pressure possible on UKR as we attempt to unhinge the wily Turk.

It does my old heart good to see your ironclads steaming at
full speed for the MED,

In grateful appreciation ,

Willie

=================================================================

Fondest Archduke,

It is with much regret that I have ordered this season's
movements.

You have put up a long and loyal fight against the infidels,
but unfortunately the loss of all your home centres to
Constantinople has hamstrung your defences. With this loss is
the lack of communication so necessary for effective defence,
and after ten long years, we are finally ready to drive back
Turkey whence he came. For this to be successful we beed the
closest coordination of avaialble forces, and so, regretfully I
must attempt to seize Rome. I would hope that you can survive
in the Southern Port of Naples until the storm blows over and
the forces of Christianity raise their flag over the Ottoman
Empire.

I hope that you can understand the position, and see that the
greater good will be served in the end.

Willehem

Nigel.

Sorry that I can't speak for Max, but when I'm stabbed by four powers in one season, and none of them write me the next season with an offer of hope, the Belgian forces decided to try to run for a new homeland...anywhere, to fight another day.

Everyone finds a neutral center to claim as their own
Turkey extends their territorial waters to claim the Black Sea
Russia, France, Germany, and England find TWO new colonies
Austria gets denied a Greek outpost while the Italian/Austrian standoff at the head of the Adriatic continues

All,
Pretty straight-forward turn. No retreats were needed this round. Thus we will move directly to the Winter turn where we need some builds:

Austria - 1
England - 2
France - 2
Germany - 2
Italy - 1
Russia - 2
Turkey - 1

Let's set the deadline for Winter at Thursday the 24th at 6pm CST.

We will follow that up with a deadline for Spring 02 of October 1st [Thursday] at 6pm.

Returned from our brief vacation, we find ourselves living in the post-stab era. Flaming meteors pulverize the ground, and cool CGI effects cause waves of concrete to wash over the heads of terrified pedestrians. Plus, there is a large reptilian creature smashing buildings with its tail while firing random bolts from something called an 'ion cannon'. Some buxom starlet is covered with mud, but she looks both pissed off and extremely hot. But, mostly, we're living with the shock waves of the Indonesian stab of India. Burma and Laos change hands. And did I mention that Siberia actually moved two units? Be afraid. Be very afraid.

There is one retreat:

Indian A Mongolia may retreat to Kunlun, Tibet, or OTB

In the Winter, India will have two disbands. Indonesia will have two builds. Everybody else chills.

Let's do both on Monday, okay? 10 CST. Then perhaps next Thursday for S1907? Good.

DCI s02 draw proposal - Nigs   (Sep 26, 2009, 3:30 am)
Guys,

after spring 02 I am stunned by Jorge's superior play, and propose we vote on a solo for him as soon as we can.

01 Autumn was impressive with those stabs, but to get the stabbed to then vacate two more of their dots - wow that really takes some art. A joint suicide pact is jst amazing. i don't think we will see better play however many twists this game could take. So why not just bow to the master now and vote for the fastest ever DCi.

DC269 Fall 1903 - Viper   (Sep 26, 2009, 1:06 am)

Austria:
F Ionian Sea - Albania (*fails*)
A Trieste Supports A Bohemia - Vienna
A Venice Supports A Trieste

England:
F Edinburgh - Norwegian Sea (*bounce*)
A York Holds
F Holland - Belgium
A Kiel Supports F North Sea - Denmark (*cut*)

Italy:

A Tuscany - Rome (*bounce*)
A Bohemia - Vienna
A Silesia - Berlin

Russia:

F Norway Supports F Barents Sea - Norwegian Sea

F Black Sea - Rumania

Turkey:
A Greece - Albania
F Aegean Sea - Greece
A Bulgaria Supports F Aegean Sea - Greece

Retreats: Germany's F Belgium may retreat to English Channel or OTB. Please confirm the move to English Channel or advise me differently by Tuesday, noon CDT. If you let me know earlier, we'll move on more quickly.

Everyone, can we please not take the entire time given? Can we please pick-up the pace?

DC270: Spring 1903 Extension - dipknight   (Sep 25, 2009, 7:51 pm)
All,

My deepest apologies; however, due to technical difficulties, I will have to extend the deadline by 24hrs.  I thought I could handle this while I was on travel, but it turns out that my laptop will not run Realpolitik for some odd reason.  And, while I am comfortable running programs, I have no idea how to fix them when things go wrong.  So, the Adjudication will have to wait until I arrive home tomorrow afternoon.  From there, I can run Realpolitik on my desktop computer.

Sorry guys,

DCI s02 results! - FuzzyLogic   (Sep 25, 2009, 4:19 pm)
Your GM is thoroughly confused. Norway moves down into Munich, yet tries to escape from Denmark - but gets trapped there by an untimely dislodged fleet... Germans search for a new home in Poland (irony?)... Austria and Turkey both move against the Balkans (one of them even aided by the Balkans themselves!), and the Balkan fleet is pushed out of ION by the Italians. The Lowlands slump off to Picardy and hope for a hail mary to avoid becoming the first elimination. A crazy twisted game indeed!

There are 2 retreats due, in 2 key naval spots - North Sea for the Norwegians and Ionic Sea for the Balkans. Retreats will be due Monday 9/28, 4pm Central, tho I'll send them out whenever I get the requisite orders.
