dc268 gm - game - notasb   (Aug 10, 2009, 9:45 am)
The player who asked for an extension still has not gotten his orders in. I do not NMR in the 1st year so I've sent him a note asking for his orders. I will adjudicate as soon as his orders are received.

After this year I will adjicate with NMRs, I will not send individual reminder notes.

DC270: Diplomacy Kickoff - billyjoebobfred1   (Aug 09, 2009, 8:06 pm)
Have you all ever been in a game where there was less than 3 days to negotiate pre1901? I didn't see 8/7 until these emails started flying. I presumed Friday 8/14. All Dipcorp games I have been in have given at least 1 week pre-negotiations.

The problem, as I'll definitely agree with Tim, is that a) the turn now goes waaaaay too long and b) there was a clear deadline set. That was the point of my first response -- I'm confused if ANYONE thought there was a deadline other than 8/7 (unless our esteemed GM communicated otherwise in other exchanges.)

To me, I plotted moves based upon the messages, lack thereof, and apparently "last minute"  communications. Which means another week re-opens negotiations. And if all moves are in, then it really does distort a lot of things, even if, as Tim suggests, all arrangements are in place.

Honored Kings of the Dark Ages -

A bitter northern winter settles over both land and sea, and we see both
the
shipyards and the barracks hard at work raising new forces for the spring,
the time when men go off to war...

All builds are valid, and no retreats of course in a winter season, so we
move straight on to Spring. This is the last adjudication that will be
copied from both the Gmail and army email accounts. So - if you did NOT
successfully receive this adjudication announcement from both the Gmail and
Army accounts by midnight tonight - you *NEED* to let me know by sending me
an email or letting one of the players that has successfully contacted me
at
the army address know so they can tell me. An email sent only to the Gmail
address equals an NMR until I return on 7 August.

Mike/Jason - there is also a distinct possibility that I will not be able
to
access the Diplomatic Corps website during the next few seasons of
adjudications while I am away training with the Reserves. Is there any
possibility that I could get some temporary help updating the game on the
DC
website during that time?

SPRING 826 will be tenatively set for Thursday, July 16, 1700 GMT+1. There
is a possibility that I will have a break in email access for the next few
days while I am in transit and getting set up. Do not be alarmed if
confirmation of orders is slightly delayed. If by some terrible scenario I
am completely without email access or cannot adjudicate at the appointed
time, well - worst comes to worst, we will take a break and resume when I
return. I doubt that will happen. Expect an email from me to touch base
and make contact as soon as I am established at training.

All,

To all of you who are patiently waiting for the results; especially given my strongest advice not to miss the deadline . . . or you would be booted; I apologies. It seems your GM has missed the Deadline himself. It was not my intent to make this first season so short by setting the deadline for last Friday, August 7th but to set it for this upcomming Friday, August 14th. Again, I apologies for the error and will endevor to pay closer attention to these details.

The Deadline as it should have been set is August 14, 2009; 5PM US MDT, (2400 hrs GMT).

Best of Luck,
Darryl (GM)

I'm a bit confused. All deadlines suggested August 7th, and I conducted negotiations based on that deadline.

There's a distinct lack of communications so far, which may be explained by an August 14th deadline, but then again, how is it that a few players were acting upon the shorter timeframe, while others haven't?

Curious.

Hey everybody,

I fully agree on what Joe has written.
If the deadline has been set in the 7th then everybody should have made his/her orders. Even if you -gm - form some reason have mistakenly put up the wrong date. Is there anyone not yet pit in his orders? Sorry -kick him/her as you have very clearly stated in the launch email.

Sorry gm but this is not oke for me. Mainly because I have made my move and somebody was a bit surprised on the very late agreement -almost a quote - isn't is mr Germany Wink

Btw 2 weeks for 1 order? Come on negotiations have been done and whom not yet done them is never gonna do them. Please get on with the next moves.

Ps . The Germany surprise is not of a big deal and all others I contacted - things stay as we agreed. Wink

Well, not to make this about me, but let me clarify: I got a lot of last minute messages. Which is of course part of the game.

Have you all ever been in a game where there was less than 3 days to negotiate pre1901? I didn't see 8/7 until these emails started flying. I presumed Friday 8/14. All Dipcorp games I have been in have given at least 1 week pre-negotiations.

DC261 - Fall 1903 Results - aramis604   (Aug 08, 2009, 2:07 pm)
It seems that I was mistaken in my interpretation of how a fleet can support another unit moving into a multi-coast province.

The effect of this is that the ordered support from RUM is valid. So the first results email was accurate. If there is any further confusion please let me know and I will explain in greater detail why the order is valid.

Adjustments:
Austria: Supp 5 Unit 4 Build 1
England: Supp 4 Unit 4 Build 0
France: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
Germany: Supp 6 Unit 7 Remove 1
Italy: Supp 5 Unit 4 Build 1
Russia: Supp 5 Unit 5 Build 0
Turkey: Supp 3 Unit 3 Build 0

We will keep the same deadline of Tuesday, August 11th by 9pm Pacific Time.

I have received a number of questions regarding the revision for Fall 1903 wondering why the initial order was invalid. I have reviewed the relevant rules from the Diplomacy rule book and my interpretation leads me to believe that the support order given was invalid. However the rules are not as succinct and I would like them to be so I am going to seek an outside opinion on this matter. For the moment please consider DC261 paused while I converse with other GMs to clear this issue up.

Subject: Re: DC261 - Fall 1903 Results

There is a correction that needs to be made on the Fall 1903 orders.

The support order given from the Russian fleet in Romania to the Austrian fleet in Greece was invalid. The result of which is that Bulgaria was not dislodged and subsequently disbanded, Greece failed to move, and the Fleet coming from the Ionian Sea bounced in Greece.

This does impact the adjustments phase also... below are the required adjustments. I am going to keep the current deadline, but anyone needs more time I will grant one 24 hour extension if requested.

Austria: Supp 5 Unit 4 Build 1
England: Supp 4 Unit 4 Build 0
France: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1

ENGINEERED PRESS RELEASES

SPRING 1910
Dearest Bertie,

This is the time, we have no further room for manoeuvre as the
Turk advances inexorably towards conquering Europe.

We must act together, and quickly!

As you can see I have throw everything Eastwards, with some
exceptions as detailed below.

Thank you for your advice re SPA. I have ordered my A to take it.

Here is my outline plan.

1. Please do not be alarmed at F NTH. Will go to SKageraak next
season and you can eliminate so I can build an extra army. If
there is a better way, please advise soonest! If you have
bounced me here, (which may well be the case) please advise how
I can disband efficiently.

2. Allow me to take BRE.

With the extra A from SPA, and BRE, and the disbandment of my F,
I will have three extra armies to slow the Turk.

Bertie, you must trust me here., I will go all out to stop
Turkey, but I need you to cooperate with me as much as you can.

The matter, the future of Europe is in your hands!

Do not let it fall to the islamic infidels, two thousand years
of Christianity is at stake, we CAN stop him, and the decision
is entirely yours!

Willie.

Players and DC Community at large -

I beg your mercy for the delayed adjudication - I have just arrived home from annual training, and have not had much internet access at all the past two days. I will adjudicate by Sunday evening at the latest. All players may revise their orders up until 1700 Sunday.

As a reminder, the current season is Winter 826. The map and RP file following the Autumn retreats adjudication are attached. After Sunday, we should resume our normal schedule and this game will run hopefully run smoothly with no more GM-induced confusion. I thank you all for your patience as I completed my training in Wisconsin.

A quick little reminder that the fall 1901 moves are due tomorrow at noon CDT. If anyone needs extra time on a set of moves, an extension can be requested. In most cases, as long as the request comes before the deadline, extensions can be granted, but they have to be requested before the deadline.

I'm looking forward to seeing what might happen.
