DC269 - Spring 1901 - Viper (Aug 04, 2009, 12:26 pm) |
Well, well... we're off to an interesting start. A few bounces... a few bold moves. We'll see which of those are true and who's bluffing...
I've been asked if it's possible to speed it up just a little bit, so I'm going to try giving you all five days instead of a whole week for major seasons and then two days for minor ones. I think that's actually a really good pace... not super quick, but not dragging it out at all.
Below, you'll find the moves, results and the new map is attached. You can also find all the information on the website at the dc269 page.
Austria:
A Vienna - Galicia
A Budapest - Serbia
F Trieste - Albania
England:
F London - English Channel
F Edinburgh - North Sea
A Liverpool - Wales
France:
F Brest - Mid-Atlantic Ocean
A Paris - Burgundy
A Marseilles - Piedmont
Germany:
F Kiel - Denmark
A Berlin - Kiel
A Munich - Ruhr
Italy:

A Venice - Piedmont
F Naples - Ionian Sea
Russia:
F Sevastopol - Rumania
A Moscow - Ukraine
A Warsaw - Galicia
F St. Petersburg - Gulf of Bothnia
Turkey:
A Constantinople - Bulgaria
F Ankara - Constantinople
A Smyrna - Ankara
Next Deadline: Sunday, August 9, 12noon CDT. I realize that's on a weekend, but you don't have to wait until then to submit your moves... in fact, I suggest submitting something (preliminary moves) as soon as you can.[Reply] |

orders from two of you.

DC242: 12h for Fall 1909 (dc242) Rocketship Aug 06, 02:14 am |
Hi Everyone,
There was a request from one player for a 48h extension. Although it
would ordinarily be a bit late to ask for an extension, I think it's
in the best interest of the game to prevent NMRs at this point.
I will adjudicate in 22 hours. All are welcome to submit updated
orders during this time.
Cheers,
Matthew |

DC255 Fall 1907 Results - MattTheLesser (Aug 04, 2009, 1:04 am) |
Well the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, as Black and Yellow
capture Snow and Cobalt, respectively, meaning their Red and Blue
counterparts lose those same centers. In other news Red seems bent on
inserting himself in the southern battle, sending both fleets and armies
that way despite the Dark navy on his northern doorstep.
There is one retreat: Red A Snow may retreat to Cha, Hot, or OTB. That
retreat and the winter adjustments (see below the adjudication) will be
due this Wednesday, August 5, at 9 eastern, although as always I will
adjudicate as soon as I have orders from all necessary parties.

dc266 deadline extension - grace used - MattTheLesser (Aug 04, 2009, 12:50 am) |
I have received no orders from one player. That player (whose identity
will be revealed with the adjudication) has been sent separate notice
and his grace has been activated. Therefore the deadline for all
players is extended until tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 eastern.

Greetings from the Black-Fly filled reaches of central Ontario. =)

DC-224 As Godly as Macs are... - former.trout (Aug 03, 2009, 11:45 pm) |
Heya folks,
Just sending word so that you all know what the latest excuse of mine is. I've arrived here at the cottage in the woods of Ontario. Using good old dial-up access, I'm currently setting up the laptop out here with RealPolitik. That will be my goal to achieve tonight, and I will churn out the Fall 09 adjudication as soon as I get a chance in the morning.
Which will give the one player who still has to submit orders a few hours to do so.
I'm upset that not all orders are in hand, despite all the extra time having been given. And I fully blame myself - as many of you have pointed out my non-NMR policy has just created the conditions for players to feel they can be late and get away with it. So let me ask you guys what the consensus is - should I change my house rules for this game to allow for NMRs to take place?
Simple yes or no answer here. I know that I'm seriously disgruntled at this point - I cringe to imagine how disgruntled you guys must be. Please let me know your thoughts and feelings on this and I'll give an HR change some serious thinking while I'm floating out on the waters with rod-in-hand.
Cheers,
Trout[Reply] |
DC267 Spring 2011 Results! - MattTheLesser (Aug 03, 2009, 10:53 pm) |
The Great White North has claimed its first victim! Canada's army
attempts to flee the McKenzie Delta before the ice on which they stand
melts away, but their exit to the Yukon is bounced by an American army,
so the Canadian army drowns! The Americans also cause further trouble
for the Canadians by moving to Western Canada, although the Canadians
can draw some comfort that their move to the Queen Elizabeth Islands
succeeds this time around. Elsewhere the Norwegians claim the North
Pole and beat the Danes for control of the Norwegian Sea, and fleets are
seen in the Arctic Ocean proper for the first time as the Americans and
Russians take advantage of the melting ice to sail into the Chukchi Sea
and the East Siberian Sea, respectively.
We also have our first retreat, as the Canadians dislodge the Danish
fleet in the North Atlantic Ocean. The fleet can retreat to Iceland or
Torshavn. That will be due tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 eastern, but I will
publish it as soon as I receive it from Scott. The deadline for Summer
2011 orders will be this Friday, August 7, at 9 pm eastern.

I apologize, gentlemen. I have become slovenly in my GM'ing and have for the second straight week yutzed on an adjudication. I'm sorry.
The draw proposal fails.
I may be becoming lazy, but I'm behind Benjy who for the third straight season NMRs. In consequence, he has a retreat to submit:
Italian Army Rumania may retreat to Budapest, Serbia, or OTB.
On account of the many disbanded units during the year (English Army Warsaw, French Fleet Tyrrhenian Sea, Turkish Army Piedmont), the adjustments phase will feature multiple builds:
England: Supp 13 Unit 11 Build 2
France: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
Italy: Supp 1/2 Unit 1 Build 0
Russia: Supp 4/5 Unit 5 Remove 0/1
Turkey: Supp 9 Unit 8 Build 1
[Note: with no home centers, Italy cannot build a unit if he retreats to Budapest]. Russia should submit a conditional disband. Others may also submit conditional adjustment orders.
I will adjudicate later today at the usual time, if nobody objects.
Again, my apologies for missing the train.

Folks,
I'd like to congratulate Rodrigo on his beautiful baby girl. I'm glad you were all willing to wait while he got his home life in order. Of course, I would have held things anyway, as I know how crazy things get when you bring a new member of the family home.
On to game news: The ERV draw fails by two votes, and we move on with the action. Standoffs on either side of the board flank the action in the middle, where England and Venice both make positional advances. We have no retreats, however, so it's right on to winter!

DC267 Deadline Reminder and Rule Clarification - MattTheLesser (Aug 03, 2009, 12:00 am) |
First, remember that Spring 2011 comes our way tomorrow at 9 eastern, so
get those final orders in!
Second, a player brought to my attention a situation that is not
currently addressed in the rules, and I subsequently noticed a later
one. The rules state that a unit in an ice territory which is changing
state may be ordered to hold or support, and that those moves will
succeed; then the unit will be disbanded. However, the rules do not
specify exactly when the unit is disbanded, which raises two questions.
First, if such a unit is dislodged, can it retreat? And second, if such
a unit is in a supply center, does it assimilate the supply center
before it is disbanded? The rules state that the change of territory
state occurs "happens in the middle of the movement phase as the units
move." Thus the answer to both of these questions is no, for the ice or
water, whichever is applicable, that the unit would need to retreat to
an adjacent territory is gone by the time the retreat phase comes, and
for the same reason the unit would no longer exist by the time
assimilation occurs at the end of the retreat phase.

DC-244 Slight Delay - Agrippa (Aug 02, 2009, 10:13 pm) |
Hi All,Sorry for the delay and thanks for putting the game on hold on my account, or should i say the baby's. Last Sunday we did indeed deliver a baby girl and life became very crazy since.
The heiress to the Spanish throne, Alexandra (see pic), is doing great, in between crying, and has given me the go ahead to continue playing.
I will send my moves in by tonight or first thing tomorrow morning as I was just catching up on emails.
thanks again!
cheers,
Rodrigo

Folks,
I haven't heard from Rodrigo in a while, so I'm delaying the game a day or two. Normally, I would simply NRM him, but I know his wife was due any day now and I don't want to punish him for having a baby. ;o) Hope you all understand, as I've had warning about this since he joined.

I say we give Rodrigo as much time as he needs to re-adjust to life with a little one.

Fall 1902 comes round tomorrow night at 9 eastern, so if you don't have
a confirmation, get your orders in ASAP! I have less than half of a
full set of orders, so don't be the first one to be forced to use your
grace!
