There is a chance another game of 1648 will see the light of the day in early September. That'd give me a chance to play rather than GM!
And I may run a playtest for my 1926 or 1936 game beginning in late summer.[Reply] |

Agreed. Â I see that Jorge is unhappy
with my decision to support Illinois, but my suspicions of
his motives appear to have been on target - I suspect if I
had actually blocked Illinois' moves into my centers,
we'd see Turkey playing be the unstoppable solo artist.
 Props for the attempt though.
My apologies if it appears my actions are
cutting the game short for anyone. Â However I did try to
make deals before deciding on this course. Â Yeah, they
weren't particularly palatable to most. Â But they
offered a way out of this, and by having my offers refused I
couldn't see that anyone was really willing to risk
their own position to help stop Illinois.
I am wrong about these things as often if not
more than I'm right. Â But thats the call I made.
Again, good game to all and it has been thoroughly
enjoyable throughout.
Thanks to Mike for GMing as well.

Fellow world warriors,
I'm not happy that Andrew (USA) decided to make
the solo so easy for Matt (Illinois), but no one deserves it
more than Matt. Â And he will have it by the end of the
year, no matter  what any of us do.  So if you have some
goal you want to accomplish that takes two turns, or just
can't stand the idea of voting for a solo, vote No.
But if you want to accept the inevitable and move on to
your next Dip game, vote Yes.
For what it's worth, that's what I'm

243 24 hour notice - agwopa (Jul 15, 2009, 12:01 am) |
Hi all, This is a (useless) 24 hour notice and I want to let you all know that the Draw was voted down.
The unfortunate events that are happening now are Vacations and we have a player moving 8 time zones and will not be around till the 21st. That is the longest date that I have. Things are getting better on my home front but not settled in to a routine that I am happy with (I gotta have my play time) but close. So the dates I have for players being back are the 19th and the 21st and this means relax all, and kick back, I will not adjudicate until the 22nd. I will share this addition that I sent out in my other game.
Once again and one last time I apologize for last week. I got some good responses from my tirade about how my fun time went away for a week. The two things I wanted you all to know was
A) I had not abandoned you all and that nothing serious was wrong (Except a broken wing for my Mom) I was just living life. You see I played in the original 221 that ended when the GM got caught up in life and left us high and dry. Now I was not mad about it for the price of admission here is nothing so we got something for nothing... disappointment was what we got in that game but hey that is something.
B) There would be a delay. Thanks for being cooperative and understanding that for the price, the entertainment value here is well worth it even if it goes a little slower than expected.
Hang in there, this still is and has been fun and I did not think that running a game would be this much fun, I do love playing and this has been a different kind of fun.
So to recap it is
Vote was no
Fall due July 22
Thanks

Fellow world warriors,
I'm not happy that Andrew (USA) decided to make the solo so easy for Matt (Illinois), but no one deserves it more than Matt. And he will have it by the end of the year, no matter what any of us do. So if you have some goal you want to accomplish that takes two turns, or just can't stand the idea of voting for a solo, vote No. But if you want to accept the inevitable and move on to your next Dip game, vote Yes.
For what it's worth, that's what I'm doing.

DC261 - Extneding Deadlines - aramis604 (Jul 14, 2009, 10:03 pm) |
Since we are well into the summer season here I wanted to let everyone know about my policy on extending deadlines...
Generally speaking I ask for at least 48hours notice before a deadline before I'll consider extending it. This is not set in stone and if there is a good reason why an extension is needed with less than two days notice chances are good it'll happen.

So far this is one heck of a busy summer for Diplomacy! Usually the slow time, but things are really hopping. 6 variants have started in the last 6 weeks! That's a normal pace for standard games, but variants usually fill slower...
Asia
Dark Ages
Babylon 5
1648
Arctic
World3B
NEXT, we have Wings up on the block, by one of our WB Gm's Sam, and a Newbie game by Viper...
Tho the Open Games list is looking a bit thin. Who wants to run something? Sandard? Variant?

Heya folks,
Austria puts up a spirited offense, fronting the good front in Rumania. Budapest, however, meets a grisly fate. Meanwhile things heat up around the North Sea...
The 2-way draw meets with defeat once again. It is proposed again for Fall voting, along with a German solo proposal. Please let me know your yay or nay votes for both proposals by the Fall deadline.
Speaking of which - Fall 1908 orders will be set for Monday, July 20th (11:59 PM GMT). Please let me know if you spot any errors.
Cheers!

Agreed. I see that Jorge is unhappy with my decision to support Illinois, but my suspicions of his motives appear to have been on target - I suspect if I had actually blocked Illinois' moves into my centers, we'd see Turkey playing be the unstoppable solo artist. Props for the attempt though.
My apologies if it appears my actions are cutting the game short for anyone. However I did try to make deals before deciding on this course. Yeah, they weren't particularly palatable to most. But they offered a way out of this, and by having my offers refused I couldn't see that anyone was really willing to risk their own position to help stop Illinois.
I am wrong about these things as often if not more than I'm right. But thats the call I made. Again, good game to all and it has been thoroughly enjoyable throughout.
Thanks to Mike for GMing as well.

Fellow world warriors,
I'm not happy that Andrew (USA) decided to make the solo so easy for Matt (Illinois), but no one deserves it more than Matt.

For those of you visual people I attached the maps with this one.
Well I didn't hear from Santiago but I'm giong to take the liberty of retreating him to Warsaw. Its his only valid move and much more logical than OTB whereas he has no home centers.
Orders:
Austria:
A Ukraine - Warsaw
England:
A Burgundy - Gascony
F Denmark - Sweden
Deadline:
I'm going to set the Fall 1908 deadline for Friday, July 17th at the same time as usual (24:00am GMT, 7:00pm EST).

We have had a request to extend the deadline 24 hours, so you all have
until Thursday at 9 eastern to ponder your orders. The request came
more than 24 hours before the original deadline, so, per my house rules,
no grace is used.

DC 254, Spring 1904 - alwayshunted (Jul 14, 2009, 6:11 pm) |
Hi folks,
Well, some of you noticed that I put the wrong year on the map last week when I adjudicated, and some didn't, but regardless it's not really that important. For your info, the current year is 1904.
One more quick note, which our Turkish player might want to pay particularly close attention to... sometimes you NEED to specify coasts. I will accept orders if there is only one option (for example the English move from Bothnia - St. Petersburg), but not all GMs will, so it's a good idea to get in the habit of specifying a coast. In the case of Turkey's move from Con - Bul.... well there are clearly two options, so that unit holds for this turn. Sorry Chris.
Now on to the adjudication. Unfortunately we have an nmr from Austria, second in a row. Only one of them has been for a major turn, so I'm willing to keep Hari in the game if he gets in touch with me soon. Otherwise I will have to seek a replacement. I will hold off on setting a new deadline for two days to give Hari a chance to contact me.
So here are the goods. It looks like our Russian is finally on the ropes, and remarkably Austria remains unscathed through his missed orders.

DIPYCORP PRESS RELEASES
Willie,
We have enjoyed great success this year! Our mutual success in
Russia has opened the Ottoman forces for a rout. The first
benefit is that this success will allow us to remove the last
our navies from your waters. Regardless of the final
disposition of the Turkish forces, we should be prying his
hands from Central Europe in the coming year. To complete the
pincer we ask of you to reconsider our use of the Gulf of Lyon.
Our friend in Austria hesitates in seizing the initiative. (He
has been understandably distracted with re-capturing his own
capital.) Our positioning in Lyon would better persuade and
enable the Archduke to launch a naval counteroffensive with the
ultimate goal of securing the ports of Greece and restoring
Austrian control to her territorial waters. Denying the
Ottoman control of the Mediterranean is a prerequisite to
ending their repression in the Balkans.
Your Uncle and Friend,
Bertie

Heya folks,
Austria puts up a spirited offense, fronting the good front in Rumania.
Cheers!

Hey Trout,
I just noticed a mistake on the board. Moscow was ordered to move to SEV not STP.

Heya folks,
Austria puts up a spirited offense, fronting the good front in Rumania.
Cheers!

Hi guys,
Thanks go to the quick eyes of you players for noticing a total error in my adjudication. The German army in Moscow was ordered to Sevastopol, NOT to St Petes. The difference is that it bounces in Sev and remains in Moscow for the Fall turn.
I've attached the corrected map and .dpy file. Deadline for Fall will remain on Monday.
Josh, please do me a favour and forward this to Mike Sims.
Cheers!
