No, but give him a chance. He could be away for the week-end or something. I wouldn't worry about him until Tuesday.

DC224 Slaughter At Story-Time - Spring 05 - Never... - former.trout   (Mar 21, 2009, 1:44 pm)
Heya folks,

Stroke, counter-stroke, stroke, counter-stroke...  The action this turn is growling!  In the north, the Rogues gain a footing against the Knights as the dark-clad warriors shuffle the front lines.  The new Sherriff of the Hobbits is unable to crack the Dwarven/Magician alliance...  And the storm clouds crash in the south as Elves meet Ogres in desperate combat.

Three retreats are needed for summer - the Gnomes in Khemri, Elves in City Of Splendors and the Hobbits from Krikkit.  Deadline for Summer 05 retreats will be set for Monday, March 23rd (11:59 PM GMT).  Please just let me know if you spot any errors!

Cheers!

Storm-Watcher Trout

DC215 Fall 1910 Results - MattTheLesser   (Mar 21, 2009, 12:56 pm)
An extension has been requested for the Winter deadline, so it is moved
until this Tuesday, March 24, at 9 pm eastern. However, to keep the
game flowing I will make a shorter deadline for the following Spring,
due this coming Friday, March 27, at 9 pm eastern.

Speaking of which, with no retreat, we move directly to Winter 1910,
which allows a build each from the Germans and the Italians. As soon
as I have them I will publish them. If I receive them today or
relatively early tomorrow the deadline for Spring 1911 (and DIAS draw

Thursday, March 26 (both 9 pm eastern of course).

until this Tuesday, March 24, at 9 pm eastern. However, to keep the
game flowing I will make a shorter deadline for the following Spring,
due this coming Friday, March 27, at 9 pm eastern.

A mistake in the adjudication was noticed: I somehow failed to input
Germany's order of A Mun - Ber. This causes a self-bounce with F Bal

in Ber. The corrected map is attached.

[quote:adac101a2c]The RI draw is voted down; Europe is not yet at peace! However,
there are still those that clamor for it, as another DIAS has been
proposed to be voted on with the spring moves.

A break through finally for the Italians as green troops proudly
march into Marseilles from Piedmont and an Italian fleet has moored
in the Mid-Atlantic ocean for the winter. Despite his loss on the
French front Germany still has a good fall, picking up Denmark from
the Russians and officially re-assimilating Munich; the Kaiser would
be entitled to three builds this winter, but, alas, he only has one
open support center.

Speaking of which, with no retreat, we move directly to Winter 1910,
which allows a build each from the Germans and the Italians. As soon
as I have them I will publish them. If I receive them today or
relatively early tomorrow the deadline for Spring 1911 (and DIAS draw
votes) will be this coming Wednesday, March 25; otherwise, it will be
Thursday, March 26 (both 9 pm eastern of course).

Spring 1903 Results! - coebq   (Mar 21, 2009, 3:47 am)
And the Russians strike back...

As does Germany, reclaiming Munich and forcing a retreat for the French unit holding the city. An excellent turn for our first full one back! Lots of movement around the board and a few centers changing hands. Last gasps or a renewed spirit?

We had two retreats this turn. The French unit in Munich (which is not allowed by rule to move to Mun) can retreat to Bohemia or OTB; Turkey can retreat A Rum to Galacia, Sevastopol or OTB. Please get your retreats to me ASAP and NLT Sunday, March 22.

Here are the ugly details folks. Let me know if you spot an error (or two, or three or...).

Good luck and best regards!

Bruce

A&E 090205 / DC240: The Spring 1765 season has been adjudicated. I live in Wisconsin, and the Badgers are playing in the NCAA tournament right now, so I'm going to keep this short. Quickly though, the stalemate has been unfrozen to some degree in the north, with Mecklenberg falling, and Russia succeeding in a creative attack on the Swedish fleet in the Gulf of Bothnia.

The Spring 1765 retreat deadline is Mon 3/23 (Austria and Sweden).
The Fall 1765 deadline is Thu 3/26.

dc231 Game Over - notasb   (Mar 20, 2009, 4:49 pm)
The end game proposal of Italian/ Russian Draw with a German survival has passed.

Thank you all for playing, I look forward to everyone's EOGs. I hope that the players who were eliminated earlier will remember enough of the game to send EOGs also. This was a very interesting game to watch and I'd love to hear about the game from all of your perspectives.

Good Luck everyone in the 2nd round.

dc231 Game Over (Winter Blitz) jhack16 Mar 23, 12:01 pm
Hi Christine,

Many thanks for your most efficient GM'ing of this game through what were obviously difficult times for you.

The consistent speed of your adjudications throughout the game set a new standard for me at least! It was great to know that the moves would be updated within an hour of the deadline, and on occasion just 15 mins! Phew!

My thanks to eveyone who made this game most enjoyable, and my apologies to Jason and Nigel who I felt I had to stab...

My end of game statement will be brief:

As Italy I felt I had to have an alliance with France (Dario) while we both went our separate ways. I looked to Jason (Austria) for a Lepanto against Turkey, but not much positive response was forthcoming, while Brian (Russia) and Nigel (Turkey) were both lukewarm about an early alliance.

I went therefore for a wait and see strategy, but no offers came in...At decision time it was either attack Germany or Austria, and I felt Austria to be geographically speaking, the easier target.

All went well for a while, then Russia (Brian) encouraged me against Turkey but at the same time broke an agreement with me about GAL. This pushed me towards the (somewhat!) willing arms of Nigel, and for a good while it looked like we might have a strong Turkish/Italian alliance. However, his reluctance to finish off Austria and detail future plans made me nervous that I was being set up, and Brian (Russia) came in with a very good offer. So that was it Nigel, sorry, we nearly made it, but your reputation of two Winter Blitz wins went against you this time.

In the meantime there was a bit of tension between me and GP over TYL and the possibility of me assisting him in his attack against France. However, he was not offering very much and insited that if we went ahead, he would be the one to take MAR, and that he would relinquish it once he had taken SPA and POR. Not being of the jam tomorrow brigade I wasnt happy with this, had to guard against his coming into TYL (which in the event he never did do) and so missed taking BUD ahead of Russia.

Once the R/I alliance started it worked well as Germany for some inexplicable reason appeared to pull back from France just as it looked at his mercy... (Would love to know the reasons behind that manoeuvre GP?) and England continued to complicate things in the North.

Turkey was divided amicably between Italy and Russia, and on we went with Russia pressing in the North, myself in the South. I lent a bit of key assistance around MUN, and this helped break Germany down, as although strong, without his home centres there was not a lot he was going to be able to do. We were now down to Russia, Italy and Germany.

Was Russia going to attempt a Solo? Brian as Russia was in a better position than me as Itlay, and the Englisg centres under German control were going to fall to him more quickly than the Franco/iberian ones would for me, but we had an agreement, or so i thought...It was at this point, as i reorganised my forces in the eastern Med that Brian attacked and captured CON. This was the moment. was he going for a Solo? He said not, and fell back to ANK as agreed, and I breathed a sigh of relief.  We just had to swap MUN for BUD and the draw was set up. Without this swap Brain could have got the solo almost at his leisure, so when we did it the game was as good as over.

The last part of the game really was a testament to GP's great defensive work. attacked on all sides by Russia and Italy, he pulled off some daring defences that slowed us down and that might on another occasion have split our alliance, so well done GP.

My thanks to everyone in the game and sure would like to hear your views on how the game progressed.

Good luck to everyone in the second round!

Joe

Thank you all for playing,  I look forward to everyone's EOGs.  I hope that the players who were eliminated earlier will remember enough of the game to send EOGs also.  This was a very interesting game to watch and I'd love to hear about the game from all of your perspectives.

Good Luck everyone in the 2nd round.

DC190 - Autumn 2011 - bielf11   (Mar 20, 2009, 3:10 pm)
As to Perth: it may come as a surprise but after the first sign of the South-Americans the people of Perth all fled with whatever they could hold on to to the North and across the water. It's only sheep and dingo's there since.
In case the South-American natives are unaware of the difference: the people of Perth walk on 2 legs, all other habitants on 4. Not sure whether that includes the South-American natives but early reports from Chile seem to be unclear on whether it's 2 or 4.

No need to feel offended: the same has been reported for the other areas Down Under when they saw the Mexicans.
Reports also have come in about overcrowded boats and all else that floats. Local governors of the remaining Oceanian empire are preparing a warm welcome for their brothers and sisters.

2009/3/20 Andrew Tanner <damienthryn(at)gmail.com ([email]damienthryn(at)gmail.com[/email])>

South America will happily participate in this ceremony, as the citizens of Chile were found to be rebellious and insolent, and serve as poor examples of the citizenry of our great continent.  We will be happy to allow Chile to fall under the protection of Oceania, and will divert our efforts towards deploying re-education teams to ensure the newly liberated people of Perth fully appreciate the benefits of becoming part of the Portugese-Spanish speaking world.

On a side note, any flag planting ceremonies occuring outside the boundaries of Chile and within South American control will be dealt with.  Violaters will be deported to whatever territory China holds on the slowest boat available.

DC-244 Renaissance Game Start - TheWhiteWolf   (Mar 20, 2009, 3:01 pm)
Folks,
As you see, we have a game number, which means this game is finally moving. Thanks to those of you who signed up early and stuck with it through all this waiting. The player list and country assignments are pasted below, and everybody who provided preference lists got something in their top two, so no complaining! Surprised)
On a more serious note, I hope everyone read my house rules before signing up. If you didn't, please go do so now. I expect you all to be familiar with them, and abide by them. I've learned through hard experience that people who don't respect a GM's house rules are destructive to the game, and I will not tolerate one person ruining the experience for everyone else.
To highlight one point in my house rules specifically, I expect all orders submitted on time. I generally set the deadlines a few hours before the end of my work day, in order to provide a bit of a buffer, but don't assume that orders submitted after the deadline will be accepted. If it's after the deadline, I will run the turn. If you don't have orders in, I will NMR you. The second time that happens, I will replace you.
On the lighter side, this is YOUR game. I'm just here to facilitate it for you. If any player has a comment, suggestion, or complaint, I will listen to is with as unbiased a view as possible.
Now that the babble is out of the way, here's what you've been waiting for!

The Players:
England: Mike Hoffman mrh(at)panix.com
France: Louis Schoenburg louisschoenburg(at)gmx.at
Holy Roman Empire: Sam Buck Sam_Buck_Productions(at)Mac.com
Russia: Jason K Githraine(at)yahoo.com
Spain: Tim Rappleano thunder5(at)frontiernet.net
Ottoman Turks: Adam West professorhill2002(at)yahoo.com
Venice: Chris Morse camorse22(at)yahoo.com

The deadline:
Spring 1454 (the first turn) is due Wednesday, 1 April at 2pm CDT (8pm GMT). This should give everyone plenty of time to get in contact with each other and hash out whatever alliances/DMZs/feuds need to be arranged.

If there are any questions, comments, etc., please don't hesitate to let me know. Every turn, I will send a map in GIF format and a RealPolitik save file, and I've attached the starting map here.

Enjoy yourselves!

DC 233: Austrian EOG - garry.bledsoe   (Mar 20, 2009, 2:32 pm)
All,
Thanks for an entertaining game and thanks to Adam for GMing for us. So where to start? I guess it is best to work our way backwards since the later portions of the game proved most interesting.

So the tough decision I had - end the game by going for the solo or ride out to the carebear 2-way 17/17 [as described by our game's jester, Kevin]? Well you all obviously see the choice I made. I didn't like taking advantage of the situation but the game IS about winning at the end of the day and a solo is really hard to get under any circumstances. This is the first time I have gotten a solo on this or any site and I was too tempted to take that rare thing.

I did not decide to solo until earlier this week. Steve succeeded in that [getting me to go for it]; it was just RIGHT in front of me and I could not ignore it. Allow this to serve as a public apology for the stab on Paul [and earlier on Steve]; I will not apologize for going for a win but certainly for stabbing good allies [which they were throughout the game].

Prior to that, Paul and I had decided to march toward a 2-way [and, let the record reflect, I voted FOR every 2-way proposal regardless of the number of centers that I had]; there was a point where we had a good 3-way alliance going [Italy, Russia, Austria] but I got convinced to go for the 2-way. I resisted the urge for a while; we had England/Germany on the run, Italy was making inroads into France and Turkey was being put to heel. The last thing I wanted to do was upset the balance of power with a stab; that would have allowed either Germany or England back into the game. Eventually though, the opportunity was there and I went for it. I got a bit lucky in my guess [as it ended up] and I should have stabbed in the Spring rather than the Fall; it just happened that the tight timelines meant that I missed the chance to work it out entirely in the Spring.

In the early portion of the game, things were interesting before we entirely hammered out a A/I/R alliance. I truly expected to be on the block quickly but somehow finagled safety after a bit; naturally that meant that Turkey had to suffer. The relationship with Germany was always an interesting one; he wanted me to stab Russia or Italy early and I never would. Truthfully I was worried that doing so would cause a war in the south and that E/G would benefit and become unstoppable.

I could go on more but that covers the highlights. Thanks to all and truthfully a good game by Kevin, Steve and Paul. You guys were quite engaging and there was a lot of good Diplomacy going on. Kudos to Steve and Kevin for never giving in and continuing to try to separate A/R.

All the best in Rd 2 to all.
