A&E 090205 / DC240: Fall 1763 adjudicated - NickHiggins (Feb 26, 2009, 9:51 pm) |
A&E 090205 / DC240: There was high drama all over Europe, and it was clearly a very active diplomatic season. The Prussian army left Hanover of its own accord, and found a new home in Mecklenburg. Spain succeeded in their bold capture of Marseille, while their Austrian ally had the most success with 3 gains. The Baltic powers were frustrated, with Denmark-Norway, Sweden, and Russia all not gaining a SC in year 1. I was interested to see Denmark's audacious strategy of going for Koenigsberg, although it did not quite meet with success. Turning to the subject of my other article, Turkey clearly read it, as they implemented my strategy of convoying an army to Tunis in Fall 1763 as discussed in the "Master of the Maghreb" section. We'll see how it goes! Finally, Frank's performance this fall was the most impressive, particularly given the circumstances. A potentially disastrous situation was salvaged, with Hanover retained and both Portugal and the Netherlands gained. Again, my best wishes go out to Frank and his father.
Here is our deadline schedule:
Fall 1763 Retreat: Fri 2/27
Winter 1763 Adjustment: Mon 3/2
Spring 1764: Thu 3/5
We need one retreat order, for the French army in Marseille.
I'm very happy to see another rich set of press. That will be followed by the adjudication. Also, I have attached a History file that is an Excel document. It contains past seasons, standings, and a number of other summary exhibits. If you are not able to open the file, do not worry, as it is not necessary to the game.

There are macros inside the file. However, they are not usable without the companion GameEngine file, which contains all of the "guts" of the adjudication engine. So, you can turn macros off, as they don't do anything.

A&E 090205 / DC240: Fall 1763 adjudicated (dc240) Sturmkraehe Feb 27, 11:12 am |
Swedish Press:
The Swedish Ambassador to Russia approached the media with a statement addressing outlandish Russian accusations of aggression on Sweden's behalf. "Of course these half-truths should be taken with a grain of salt. It was Russia's own attempted advance into the Gulf despite fervent requests from Sweden's diplomatic corp to do otherwise that prompted Sweden's rush to her own self-defense. Coupled with numerous reports of Russian perfidy in regards to Sweden's best interest have left Sweden in a position where pre-emptive invasion was sadly necessary. Should Russia choose to control her "cubs" and behave in a more civilized fashion then Sweden would be more willing to keep to her rocky, meatless shores."

Turkey Keeps Sev BUT ONLY Because of England Vacating It [Misorder]
Italy in RESURGENCE!
Successful Turn for F/I/A? You Be the Judge.
What an Evenly Matched Game.
All,
Germany only had one retreat from Munich [Berlin]. I took it. That means that he has no builds. He could of course retreat OTB and build in Berlin but I would bet good money on it being an army! If he wishes otherwise, please submit as such.
Other than that we have no retreats. We have 1 remove [England] and 2 builds for Italy. That concludes business for the Fall.
PLEASE SEND ORDERS TO THE ORDER BOX. I AM OUT OF TOWN TOMORROW NIGHT AND CANNOT ADJUDICATE. I AM BACK FOR MONDAY'S DEADLINE.
Winter due at 5pm CST tomorrow. Fearless Trout will handle the unit adjustments tomorrow.
Thanks.

Garry,
You are not logical with yourself.
Last turn you OTBed my army of GAL instead of retreating it to WAR (the only choice) and now it’s the same case and you automatically retreat her. ?!
Anyway I keep the retreat to BER

Laurence,
In this case, the ONLY option for a retreat was to Ber. There was no other retreat available. And, given that the only build location was also Berlin if you retreated OTB, I chose to move you to Berlin and give you the option of telling me you would rather build a F. If you can spot a place that you had an option for a retreat, please let me know. The program that adjudicates is usually spot on but, because it requires my human input, could render an error if I made a mistake.

Garry,
My complaint is about the last turn. The ONLY option for retreat was to WAR (like BER now). But instead of retreating to WAR you disbanded the army.
The case is exactly similar here and now you retreat the unit !?
One time you retreat, one time you disband J Do you throw dice ?

Not to disparage because he WAS filling in while I was getting knee-deep into birthday cheer but I didn't do the retreat phase. I didn't auto-retreat after the Fall adjudication because there were multiple retreats needed [not just one]. Sorry for the confusion and that I was unclear in my Fall orders that previous turn.

Garry,
My complaint is about the last turn. The ONLY option for retreat was to WAR (like BER now). But instead of retreating to WAR you disbanded the army.
The case is exactly similar here and now you retreat the unit !?
One time you retreat, one time you disband J Do you throw dice ?

Laurence,
In this case, the ONLY option for a retreat was to Ber.

DC236 Winter Blitz Board 6 - Fall 07 - former.trout (Feb 26, 2009, 8:51 pm) |
Folks,
No quarter is given as we say farewell to our Sultan this round. My thanks to Michael for battling it out with grace and style. =)
Two retreats are needed - one from Italy in Munich and the other from Russia in Rumania. Retreats and Winter 07 adjustments will be set due for tomorrow evening - Friday, Feb 27th (11:59 PM GMT).
Also, a Russian/Italian draw has been put forward once again. We'll set the deadline for the yay or nay votes with the Spring turn - on Monday.

DC234 Fall '07 Adjudication - sam_buck_productions a... (Feb 26, 2009, 7:32 pm) |
Hi, All!
We have much to discuss, so let's get started. First, I will be out
of contact next Thursday and Friday due to a theater production, and
will be unable to Adjudicate until around 2 AM each night. Therefore,
If you wouldn't mind, Trout, could you run it for those two nights?
This is just a warning- I'll be here for Spring '08 next Monday, as
well as summer '08 on Tuesday. Thanks for understanding -- there was
no way to get out of it. Next, I think I should remind all of you
about the two WB awards: Best Press and Best Stab. Keep Publishing and
Stabbing, and you'll all find yourselves on your way to greatness.
Finally, and most importantly, we have the adjudication, which is so
interesting it deserves its own paragraph.
Hi Again! So, Russia is defeated all across the board; They lose St.
Petersburg, and fail in attacking the Italian lands. The Italians,
however, aren't much better off, as they lose Serbia to the Turks.
Finally, we have Germany. Our Kaiser has put up an incredible fight
since being pushed out of his homelands, but unfortunately, The
British have attacked Sweden with enough force to remove the germans,
only to find that... they weren't there! The Kaiser shall live to
fight another day with all of Norway under his grasp.
With this done, we find ourselves with two retreats, Russian St.
Petersburg and Italian Serbia, which I have auto retreated to Moscow
and Albania, their only possible destinations. If disband is
preferred, please inform me with your Winter orders. I will accept
conditional builds based on a change in the retreat scheme to allow
for this. Our next deadline shall be tomorrow, February 27th, at 8ET.
Until Then, I leave you with your Orders and Maps:

DC232 fall 1907 results! - coryfucius (Feb 26, 2009, 6:46 pm) |
Unfortunately, we see two NMRs this turn, no doubt to the delight of France...
France manages to make progress in the Italian heartland, pushing Italy's army out of Tuscany. Austria holds the line against a French attack on Silesia. France makes a token attack on Norway, and convoys an army to Denmark.
The unordered Turkish army in Warsaw still hangs on to take control of the last Russian center.
There is one autumn 1907 retreat due: the Italian army in Tuscany may retreat to Rome or OTB.
Winter 1907 adjustments are as follows:
France build 2
Italy even (build 1 if retreat OTB)
Turkey build 1
Both the autumn retreat and the winter adjustments will be due tomorrow, Friday 2/27 at 3pm Central (US) / 21:00 GMT.

Hi everyone. Your tardy GM here. As some of you may have realized, my work occasionally surprises me with road trips and extremely busy days.... and nights. I was called away on Tuesday morning to a remote area, with limited access, and have just been very busy. I'm in the office now for a few hours, then hitting the road again to another town... BUT, I will have internet in my hotel where I am going.
My sincere apologies for the delay. I will get out the turn tonight sometime from my hotel, and then hopefully get back into a regular pattern.
Thanks for your patience!
Warren

I won't be home tonight until very late, so I can't guarantee an adjudication before tomorrow morning. I'll get it out as quick as I can.

That makes the next deadline on Monday, February 23, 22:00 MST. Accepting preliminary order now, and always.

Okay, new maps are attached. Have fun, check my work. Oh, and I believe the DC house rules (which I mostly follow) state that 06 is the first year when you may propose draws or other game end scenarios for voting to occur. Not that I want the game to end.... I'm enjoying it a lot. But just so you know.
Cheers,

DC 233: F1907 Adjudication - Bridgejunky (Feb 26, 2009, 11:15 am) |
All and particularly Steve C.
There is obviously room for fight left in the game and certainly plenty of room for diplomatic shocks so I'm not counting any chickens here. I would like to say something though and to offer Steve & Kevin an absolute guarantee that my decision was in no way determined by their actions. They are both top men who I think have demonstrated pretty clearly here that they, together with Garry, are stronger players than I am.
That said, my move was deliberate and premeditated so it would, I think, be disengenuous and more than a little patronising of me to offer an appology. I do however most certainly owe everyone an explanation.
We are dealing with a tournament here and the tournament dynamic demands that we do our best, that we at leat attempt, to compete for the top spot. If we did not then there would be a lot of agreed draws and very little point to competitive play. My biggest motivating factor was last year's experience that anything short of a two way leaves a player out of the running even after just round 1. It was always clear to me that, if an opportunity presented, I would try to take it.
The question then became one of who might be a partner for an attempt at a two way and here perhaps i do owe an appology. I played with Garry in round 1 last year and built a lot of respect for him as a player and a person. In that game 12 months ago I stbbed him at least once, probably twice and, he might tell you, perhaps even more often than that. It may be a flaw in my character or a flaw in the tournament structure (hard to see though what might be done about it) but I felt that I owed him and that come what may I would not work against him in this game.
This may suggest that this move was pre-planned from the start but all have my word it was not. Only in the last few days have we begun to discuss this. Prior to that I, at least, would have sailed on toward a three way.
Best,
Paul.

DC 233: F1907 Adjudication (Winter Blitz) Bridgejunky Feb 26, 11:15 am |
Best,
Paul.

Heya all,
Apologies - I almost forgot to send you the latest from the Ogre Literature Department and Press Office:
"Friends (and foes) please accept my apologies - my cpu is overridden with virusus, including much of my work docs and other items. I have my phone with horrid email interface and no map view. But I want to try to keep our various alliances and wars ongoing - please don't hold my lack of communication against me. I have purchased a new computer, so I should be set up to go late next week. Hope to fully re-engage you all soon"
