DC191 Study In Baltic - Spring 1910 - The Norwood... - former.trout   (Nov 20, 2008, 11:31 am)
All is abounce this turn, though not from lack of effort. Action is seen on all fronts but by deft moves from all parties any actual unit relocation is stymied. With the ammunition expended, the lines remain as they were...

The proposed DIAS goes down in flames though. To counter, a 2-way Swedesh/Finnish draw has been proposed. I'll ask for your votes with the Fall 1910 orders - deadline being set for Tuesday, November 25th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers all!

Dc194 Fall 1906

I have received no moves from Russia or England. Both have used their Grace period so both
countries suffer an NMR for Fall 1906.

Joe - I am disappointed that you failed to submit moves, even HOLDs. Technically this is your second NMR in
a row and your country should be placed in CD prior to winter adjustments. This means by failing to
submit moves for the last 2 seasons, you would get no credit for playing this game at all. However
I am not going to place you in CD, but it is something you need to consider in games for the future -
as not all GM's can be as reasonable as me.

Stephen, I should have emailed and told you all units Hold, but I really didn't see the point. The end result would have been the same. With the turn overs of players and all, I just lost interest. I did receive the deadline notices, but just chose to ignore them. Mike was honest (really, he was!) and didn't have a reason to change the flow of the game. Just out of curiosity, who will get credit for playing this game?

Joe

countries suffer an NMR for Fall 1906.

Dc194 Fall 1906 (dc194) deathblade_penguin Nov 21, 12:42 am
Joe

I like to believe I can always change my position in a game for the better - check out Dc110 where I managed
to get a survial after having no units on the board for a number of seasons, but yes the more correct thing would have been to email the GM.

As far as the french position/credit would go - Mike Hoffmann is the current France. There's a complicated system that the ratings used to determine how much goes to eahc france. However my basic knowledge is that if Mike takes on the position and improves it - he gets credit for the improvement, just as if he took on a position and made it worse -= he gets credit for that worsing. Check on the DC site for a more accurate assesment of ratings but as far as the game goes, Mike Hoffmann is France.

This was a very fun, challenging variant. In fact, it was easily the most challenging variant I have ever been a part of, and I thank Mike for GMing, because it must have been tough.

Initially, Austria and I conspired to crush Turkey . I think this was, in large, part, due to the fact that Austria and I talked to each other a lot, and Turkey didn’t say much initially. So the plan was to shrink the Black Sea and use our 2 to 1 seismic advantage to wear him down. Turkey wanted to bounce in the Black Sea , and I wanted to make sure I got Rumania , so I let him have the Black Sea . That proved to be a costly mistake, because I never took it back. We didn’t get very far into attacking Turkey when Italy stabbed Austria . It would be just me against Turkey . Turkey then sent me an email entitled “Peace in our Time?” offering to convoy me to Budapest from Armenia . I accepted. Looking back, I probably should have continued the war against Turkey , because no sooner did I have Budapest than Turkey stabbed me, taking Budapest and Sevstapol. I started using my seismics defensively, cutting off Turkey from my other supply centers. We then agreed to another peace.
In the North, I was faced with a choice. Germany and France were attacking England , and asked me to join in the fray. I thought I was going to, strength in numbers and all, but I figured I would be on their list next, so I waffled for a couple of turns, then decided to help England against the FG Alliance. England , I figured, would be endebted to me, plus Germany and France would be concentrating on him, and I would be able to get some centers. I felt bad about stabbing Germany , but it worked out pretty well at first.
Then Turkey stabbed me again. That in itself probably would not have been so bad, because he only took one center, but England also stabbed me. I then allied myself with France and we crushed England . Then, the plan was to slowly push out Turkey , and I used Switzerland to cut off areas from Black Sea Support. France gained faster than I, and then he asked to borrow Holland the one turn that I was going to gain 2 SCs, but would not have any home SCs open.
I had to concede him Holland . I was planning on turning on France as soon as I got Sevastapol back, figuring that even if he took Kiel, Denmark, and Sweden, he would only be at 17, and wouldn’t have good prospects for further growth with Turkey and I against him. Unfortunately, I forgot about that Austrian unit in Naples . D’Oh!

[quote:563ea5d0aa]Thanks to all for a well-played game which I thoroughly enjoyed. Hats off to
Austria for lasting as long as he did - the extra seismic did indeed prove to be
my undoing, as was my too-early alienation of France in the Med/Italy. 3 sesmics
against 1 is just too much - 2 against 1 probably insurmountable as well.

I have to say I like the variant a lot, especially as it allowed for my Black
Sea fleet to become incredibly powerful and helped me break out early on.

Cheers, and see you all next time.

Nathan

Subject: Seismic Solo!

"Resistance is useless!"  Said better than a Vogon, (and with better
effect) the opposition stands aside in reverence as France coasts to an
18 SC Solo Seismic Victory.

Congrats to Rolf for the win, which in Seismic is supposed to be harder
to get than in a standard game!  Final standings are online,
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc182.

This has got to be one of my favorite variants.  Oddly enough, the first
Seismic (dc99) ended in a solo as well.  There's another in play
already, dc211 so check that out if you're interested to see how their
map is shaping up.  (www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc211)

Since France captures the 18, final seismic orders are not played.

That's it!  Send EGS (End-Game-Statements) to the group, share your
perspectives on the game.

More bad news - for the Burgundians: they lost 2 SCs this year and now need to disband 2 units.
The Slavs are not faring any better with the loss of one unit, although it could have been much worse with the overwhelming neighboring Roman forces.
Good news for the Swedes and Norse, but the Romans stay in the lead with another 2 units.

I've played aqcuire quite a few times including at the World Boardgaming championships in Pennsylvania. Its worth at least a few plays, it becomes an advanced game of "memory" and since my memory tends to be pretty bad I usually lose. Still a fun play though and I would enjoy playing it online sometime.

Berlin falls to the English, Turkey looses Ankara, Austria retakes Rumania, and France takes Tunis. Two NMRs, by Russia and Germany.

Joe, I auto-retreated your GOL to Spa/SC. If you want to disband, tell me ASAP.
Winter 1904 builds are due on Friday the 21st of November, at the same time as usual. Note: for GMT+11, It's on Saturday.

France's retreat won't impact builds, so:
England/France build 1
Germany/Turkey each remove 1
