Didn't Steve actually get the retreats out? I thought I saw him issue them about a week ago.

I'll run through the emails once I have some time..

Hello all, I am your temporary GM, just until Steve gets his Computer situation worked out.

So as I understand it, you have all received the spring results, and I now need the retreat orders from you all.
Please send those orders to me and the Game box by Thursday, (at) 9pm East Coast US Time. (for reference I am sending this message just past 10:30 AM)

Thank you all for your patience!

Jason

Here are the results again:

"For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill."

With three mobile neutrals (and one supporting), it appears that some are attempting to win without fighting.
Everyone captures exactly one neutral center this Spring, which leads to several dislodgements.
Let's get the Retreat orders for those neutrals in on Tuesday, October the 7th at 23:59 GMT. Retreat orders will be the same as regular ordering of Neutrals, except that if there is no consensus, the unit will disband. There will be no delay for this adjucation. Since there are no Chinese units that were dislodged, and only neutrals, any orders missing on Tuesday will be orders to disband the neutrals. If this is what you want, I will still appreciate you shooting me an email telling me that.

A couple of technical notes: I am using my wife's MAC, which I hate. Because of this, I don't have the file converters that I have on my computer (and it took enough to convince my wife to let me download Realpolitick), and I don't know how to convert the .pic to a .gif. If someone could do that, and email it back to me, that would help a lot. Also, the MAC version of Realpolitick won't let me copy the orders like the PC version does. How do I get around that, so I don't have to type the orders next time?
Thirdly, I think something is wrong with the Mandate RP file. On my PC and MAC, I can't open a saved version. It says something like invalid order or something. Does anyone know more about RP that can figure out what that is?

There is one retreat, but Laconian F Rho Sin can only go to Caria so we’ll just send it there and move along. If Laconia prefers OTB, let the group know by tomorrow, 10am Pacific.

A new .map file is attached for those playing along in RP. Mar Sin wasn’t connected to Rho Sin.

Seismic f10 results! (CORRECTED 2) - FuzzyLogic   (Oct 23, 2008, 8:46 am)
One more, I found the Austrian Seismic order, so there is another
seismic change - the Austrian imperial navy sets sail again! (little do
they know the homeland may look a bit different whenever they get home -
if getting home is even an option, given the land masses that have
cropped up across the Med!) New map is attached, w the two corrections.

France ordered F Bel-Hold, which I read as F Bel-Hol (easy mistake?)
So - France is in Bel, and Russia need not disband.

-----Original Message-----

Double the draws, double the fun! There are two proposed for next
spring:

3-way FRT (A survival)
2-way FT (AR survival)

Vote on both, either one would require 4 yes votes to pass. If by
chance both pass, then the draw including more players takes precedence.
If I have 4 yes votes on either by Winter, I'll call the game then, but
they are not due till Spring.

Okay, Bruce didn't NMR. There were just some Email issues, so, in the future, I'm instigating this rule:If you do not receive Confirmation from me, consider yourself as still having not entered moves. . if, after the second try, you still do not get confirmation, send them to Samuel_Buck(at)dalton.org (Samuel_Buck(at)dalton.org) . However, I DON't WANT ANYTHING ELSE GOING TO THAT ADRESS!!! House rules are being updated.

I've auto-retreated Munich to Bohemia and Holland to Kiel. Id disbands are preferred, let me know.

.ExternalClass DIV {;} Hello all, I am your temporary GM, just until Steve gets his Computer situation worked out.

DC208 Spring 1903: Results are in (and you'll want... - coebq   (Oct 23, 2008, 2:35 am)
Therefore, a prudent ruler ought not to keep faith when by so doing it would be against his interest...If men were all good, this precept would not be a good on; but as they are bad, and would not observe their faith with you, so you are not bound to keep faith with them. Nor have legitimate grounds ever failed a prince who wished to show colorable excuse for the non-fulfillment of his promise.

In other words Machiavelli is telling us to not worry about those broken promises--people forget them really very quickly--particularly when you are strong and in a position to offer them something.

As a new year begins, the battle becomes desperate for some while others begin to look elsewhere for a little more action. In the East, the Sultan once again holds the Black Sea, but at the same time orders his men to perform a tactical withdraw, abandoning the ancient city of Constantinople and perhaps preparing for his final stand. Even while supporting his relentless assault on the Turks, the Austrian leader orders his units West, opening a new front; but against whom exactly? In the West the chaos continues, although an alliance may have shown itself...

My apologies for the delay in getting this adjudication out. I wanted to give our new Russia the time he needed, but was then dumped on by work.

Please watch those orders folks. If the RP doesn't accept it as written, I check to see what's up, but I can't make substantive changes. We had one ambiguous order this turn which could not be accepted and another completely erroneous one. Ultimately, the ambiguous order would not have mattered as it would have resulted in a bounce, but I would hate to see someone lose a center on a badly written order.

Let's get this one back on-track and moving. No retreats are due so straight into the Fall we go. Deadline will be Next Monday, October 27 at 2359 GMT. Hey, I'll be in Chicago!

Let me know if you spot any errors or need for time to plot and negotiate.

Good luck and best regards gentlemen!

Bruce

DC196 Heroes And Villains - Fall 1905 Revisited -... - former.trout   (Oct 22, 2008, 7:03 pm)
Hi folks,

Been an off-week for me so far with regards to my games. With apologies, it appears that I misentered Germany's Tyrolian order for the Fall 1905 turn. It should have been entered as A Tyrolia Support Boh -> Vie. The corrected maps and adjudication is attached.

On review of the corrected turn, however, not much changes. The timely Italian support of Vienna contributes to the Austrians' defence there and the Russian attack still results in a bounce. Net result of the corrected orders is that the Russian army in Bohemia is no longer dislodged. So the adjustments count should remain the same.

Due to the uncertainty over the corrected adjudication, I promised to extend the deadline for Winter. Revised deadline will be set for roughly 24 hours - for Thursday, October 23rd (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers everyone. Sorry about any confusion from the Fall turn. Hopefully I'll be able to get my head out of my butt sometime this week. =P

Request for a private game -    (Oct 22, 2008, 4:55 pm)
Hi there. New here but not new to pbem dip. Great site by the way!

So I saw an earlier post asking for a private game with a GM and you were very welcoming, and I am hoping you will be able to do the same for us.

We are looking for a private game, with a GM. We have ten players (nine have registered in the last few days) and we are eager to play the Empire variant (the American one).

Can anyone help us? Thanks in advance, and again, kudos on a fantastic site.

Yours, Tom

Hi Tom,
What do you mean by a private game? Do you have a GM already? If so, we just need to find out who, and set them up as a GM, and get your game created. The whole process takes about 5 min, but just need to know a bit more. Who's the GM?

Ten players? (Help & Suggestions) former.trout Oct 24, 08:06 am
Hi Tom,

Seven players is usually the amount you need for a standard game. Were you planning on playing a variant? Not sure how else you'll be able to fit ten players into a game.

If it's a standard game you're looking for, I'm sure someone can oblige you and GM. A variant game is a little different however - sometimes its harder to find a GM for those.

Trout
Request for a private game (Help & Suggestions) FuzzyLogic Oct 27, 10:48 pm
Hi Tom,
Ok, so how it generally works... is a GM (wonderfully giving soul) steps up and offers to run a game. We put it up on the open games page, and then players join it as they see fit. Once the game is full, it starts.

It is rarely done the other way around, where 10 players need a GM... I would say you'd have to find one who wants to run it! We have done private games before, where a group of friends signs up, but they've always had a GM already w/in the group, so we could open the game right away.

So - Do you want to run a 9-player game for the other 9 then? Or would someone in your group?

Or, post away in the Open Games forum, and see if you can find someone out there who's been interested to GM an American Empire game. (any takers out there?)

Or one from your group run it, and then we'll easily find 1 more to play.

I just played in that one Trout ran, and got killed. Was a fun variant tho, definitely one to try if you haven't already.

DC213 Spring '02 Adjudication - Samnuva   (Oct 22, 2008, 3:22 pm)
The board is really starting to heat up. Russia NMRd, an experience the Austrians aren't happy with and Russia certainly isn't happy with, seeing as Turkey got Bulgaria out of the deal. A clash over Tyrolia results in nothing, and Germany retakes Munich at the expense of Holland.

We have a brief retreat tun now. Tomorrow, at exactly 24 hours after this deadline, I need:
Holland: Retreat to Kiel or Disband
Munich: Retreat to Bohemia or Disband
Rumania: Retreat to Ukraine, Galicia, or Disband
