DC176 - Spring 1913 adjudication - bielf11   (Oct 14, 2008, 5:52 pm)
Spring 1913:
The new leader of Russia appears to be somewhat successful; it managed to regain Moscow and supported the French into Kiel. So was it agreed that the French navy invaded in Sweden in return?
The Italian leader did another Big Shuffle; its Marines were shipped across the Black Sea to Armenia, while the Fleet in Constantinople took their place.
The Austrians and the French had many clashes back and forth. In the Mediterranean these all ended in a stalemate, but in Germany Austria had to give up Kiel and it couldn't prevent France from taking Ruhr. At least the Austrian commander did make a successful attack on Sevastopol. But the other powers seem to be closing in on them.

Retreats are due for Summer 1913. See below.

Orders executed:
-------------------------------

A Bohemia - Munich (*Fails*)
A Budapest - Serbia
A Galicia - Rumania
F Ionian Sea - Aegean Sea (*Bounce*)

F Mid-Atlantic Ocean - Spain(sc)
A North Africa - Tunis (*Fails*)
F North Sea - Helgoland Bight
F Norway - Sweden
A Paris - Burgundy
F Western Mediterranean - Tyrrhenian Sea (*Bounce*)

F Ankara - Constantinople
F Black Sea Convoys A Bulgaria - Armenia
A Bulgaria - Armenia
F Constantinople - Bulgaria(sc)

Russia:

Retreats
--------------
The Austrian army has to give up Kiel to the French. It can retreat to Berlin; or OTB.
Deadline for Summer 1913 retreat is Oct 15 Wednesday at 23:00 GMT.

Lookahead at Fall 1913: deadline is set for Tuesday Oct 21 at 23:00 GMT.

DC-198 Summer Mayhem Fall 1912 Adjudication - TheWhiteWolf   (Oct 14, 2008, 8:31 am)
All,
Sad to say, I didn't receive Turkish orders this season. There were a couple minor shake-ups, but the map didn't change drastically.

***DRAW REQUEST: I've received a proposal for a DIAS. That is, Draw Includes All Survivors. I expect your votes by the retreat deadline (yes, I said retreat.) That's 24 hours from now.
Since I didn't specify in my house rules what a non-vote means, it's GM's flavor: If you don't submit a vote, it counts as an NMR and a YES.

DC-198 Summer Mayhem Fall 1912 Adjudication (dc198) BadBunny Oct 16, 12:25 am
Well dudes, It's been a lot of fun but I can agree that a DIAS was the best
idea, I mean we went what, almost two years with nobody really making any
progress in either direction? It was still a lot of fun and I hope that
Andy decides to do another one the say way I would love to play in it and I
would love to take on you guys again, Mike Sims I respect you, your tenacity
and your steady hand. Mike Thompson, thanks for giving me a second chance.
Andrew, You never convinced me that Russia would attack me but I did have
second thoughts a few times =). Dan, sorry about the stab and the quick
defeat. Drew, you are noble to sacrifice yourself for the cause. Jon, I
really hope to play you again someday, maybe we can switch places and see
how you like being boxed in =P.

Anyway thanks for the great game guys!

DC208 Game on Hold! - coebq   (Oct 13, 2008, 9:41 pm)
All,

I am sorry to report that our Russia, Adam, has written me to dropping out of the game. The circumstances were unforeseen and I wish Adam all the best. I'm sure we'll see him back in a game near you soon!

In the meantime, I will need to get with our fearless DC leadership and look to find a new Russia. Shouldn't be too tough to find a replacement given the excellent position Russia is in right now.

Stand by and we'll be back on track soonest.

Best regards.

--------------------------------------------

DC205 - Fall 1903

Some powers definitely get their fair share of attention during the Fall 03 moves, as northern England falls to two separate powers and Germany gets slammed from all different directions. Meanwhile Turkey powers into Trieste and our Arch-duke resigns himself to a lonely fate in exile.

Two retreats are required after all the 03 moves - one from Italy and one from Germany. Deadline for the Early Winter 03 retreats will be set for Wednesday, October 15th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers everyone. Please let me know if you spot any errors with the adjudication.

Here is the updated map reflecting seismic activity (mostly in and around Germany).

The canal in Kiel has been destroyed.

It occurs to me that my Isthmus Rules are silent on the topic of connections between land provinces and the Outer Rim of the board. For example -- just hypothetically, of course Smile -- were a player to merge NORWAY and OUT, would the new Nwy-Out connection be an isthmus?

After reflection, I believe it DOES constitute an isthmus. Normally (in the future) under Isthmus Rules, because no isthmus option accompanied Stephen's seismic order, a strait should now exist between between Nwy & OUT connecting Barents and Norwegian. HOWEVER, you are beta-testing these rules, and since this situation was not clearly covered in my rules, I am going to give Stephen the opportunity to clarify his original intent. (My interpretation from the information available is that he intended for there to be NO STRAIT). So, Mr. Lytton, please send that clarification immediately. Thanks.

Next Deadline is F1901 on Thursday at 1000 CST.

Happy stabbing,
Adam

Heya folks,

Looks as though I'm not the only fish in the pond that's having internet troubles. I've had an extension request for DC-191 to allow for repair and refitting for one of our players. Since I'm kindof in the same boat, I'm all too grant the request.

Deadline for orders will be reset to Wednesday, October 15th (11:59 PM GMT). Thanks everyone!

DC-174 GAME ENDS - - - - Turkey/England 2 way draw... - bobclam   (Oct 13, 2008, 5:17 pm)
Dear All,

Here's the game from Germany's perspective.

During the early part of the game I was hoping to form an alliance with France, but having heard from other players that France was also seeking alliances with them, I was worried of his true intentions. With this worry, I finally choose England as my ally. This worked extremely well during the early part of the game. I also had a good relationship with Russia. While the French domain was slowly eroded, Austria's demise was much quicker than expected and within two turns the R/T/I alliance completed their campaign. During this time, my agreement with England to maintain a DMZ in the North Sea was slow in coming. Meanwhile Russia began to move troops northwards. All these factors made me feel that Germany was in dangered of being the next natural target for an England/Russia alliance.

I attacked Pete as a pre-emptive measure and seeked support from Turkey and Italy. With Russia significantly weakened, I sought to attack England with the help of Italy who also expressed worried with England's fleet looming over the Mid Atlantic Ocean. Bruce did a fantastic job at repelling the attack but the combined force of German and Italy was making headway. We were close to breaking into England's homeland and Turkey made peace with Russia and started his attack on Italy. With that, Germany was suddenly left to fend off both Russia and England. Bruce and I exchanged a few fun turns at guessing each other's moves and I was making some small progress thanks to a number advantage. The situation turned when I mistyped two moves in one of the turn. From then on Germany slowly lost ground and it was difficult to recover from there.

This was in fact my first game of online diplomacy, though I had played the actual board game a few times. It was a very enlighting and thoroughly enjoyable experience for me. Many thanks to Scott for keeping the game ticking along.

Look forward to playing with you all again.

Bob

GM Comment:

The first adjustment season saw no mistakes in ordering. The hexagonal multiple unit symbol appears again where more than one unit has been built in a centre or where a unit has been built in a centre where there was already a unit. The actual units denoted by the hexagon are shown in the sidebars.

I think some of you are now starting to perceive the strengths and weaknesses of the various countries, particularly in respect of their build limitations. Having the rules regarding fleets only being built in naval bases and armies only being built in current capitals really adds a different flavour to the game.

GM Comment:

You all seem to be getting the hang of this version very quickly. However, some of you left it to the last minute to get in orders and questions. Luckily there were no major issues. If you want me to check the orders for silly mistakes (as I will until the end of 1915) then they need to be with me in enough time for you to correct them. Nag-nag-nag.

Things to note this time are Great Britain's 2 orders which cover 3 units - 2 fleets, one with an army on board. Moving a loaded fleet to a coast automatically disembarks the army and the fleet moves back to its original space all as one move. Alas, not successfully in this case as Belgium finds itself coming to terms with the 'benefits' of French occupation. The Entente not-so-Cordiale. Spain, likewise, is measured up for a French yoke.

The German self-stand-off in Kiel is also worthy of note as, without the B(oard) notation, the fleet and army bounce, keeping the units in Holland and Bavaria, and Kiel defended and unoccupied. If either had had the B notation then the army would've boarded and the bounce not happen. Worth looking out for in the future. Meanwhile, the Danes become 'partners', along with the Dutch in the Second Reich.

In the north, the Norwegians and Swedes become fully paid up subjects (as in taxed) of Tsar Stefan. The Rumanians are as equally thrilled, particularly as this change comes with the help of the Sultan.

Moving around the continent, a resurgent Ottoman Empire returns to the Balkans big-time and the Austro-Hungarians complete the subjugati... errr... integration of the Balkans. Only impoverished Montenegro remains free of a Great Power's protection. However, an attempted Austro-Hungarian attack on Venice is repulsed at the border by the Italians.

Italy completes this round of beneficence by the Great Power's by taking the Swiss under their wing. Switzerland's Perpetual Neutrality means nothing to Il Parlamento Italiano or Original 1958 Diplomacy.

No dislodgements, so no retreats.

I've had a word with Mike Sims at Diplomaticcorp and although the slideshow has been implemented on the site, it can't as yet handle more than one map per turn. However, this is definitely on the 'things to do' list. In the meantime, I've decided to reinstate the slideshow on my web site http://sforza.50webs.com/DC210.html as it can handle more than one map per turn.

DC190 deadline - worldwidegm at gmail.com   (Oct 13, 2008, 12:02 pm)
Hey everyone, I just realized that I haven't redone the map to include Oceania's F Indian Ocean yet. I won't be able to do that until much later today, so I'm going to extend the deadline until Thursday unless everyone doesn't care and still gets their moves in earlier marked as "final" orders. I'll send out the map this evening.

DC 211: S1901 Seismic Map - AceRimmer   (Oct 13, 2008, 8:51 am)

Happy stabbing,
Adam

I DO not want fleet travel from Barents to NWG.

No Isthmus, No strait etc.

But my preference would be to allow travel from London to Moscow. Think of all the evil things the Brits could do... =P

DC205 - Fall 1903 Deadline Reminder - former.trout   (Oct 13, 2008, 8:27 am)
Heya folks of DC-205...

Apologies for the very short deadline reminder. Having some equipment malfunctions at home and have to send this from work. Please consider this a gentle rumble that Fall 1903 orders are due in just under 11 hours. Not everyone has gotten them in yet, so please double-check and ensure that you've sent something to me with a CC to Dean.

Cheers!
