dc163 Fall 1902 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The Fall of 1902 was certainly interesting. In alphabetical order.....

Austria regained Vienna, but is ejected from Budapest and leaves Bulgaria to the Turks.
Britain pushes Germany out of Denmark and assists the French into Holland.
France takes Holland from the Germans with British help.
Germany takes a beating this fall. Two centers lost and none gained.
Italy chases the Turkish fleet back to his homeland.
Russia retakes an undefended Sevastopol and blocks a German assault on Warsaw.
Turkey retakes an undefended Bulgaria, and with Russian help smashes into Budapest, while falling back in the south.

I would say it is shaping up to be a really interesting game. Keep up the great work!

On a technical note. When submitting support orders, please indicate what the supported unit is suppose to be doing. Chris (Austria) has a perfect example this turn. He sent orders for F Greece to Support A Bulgaria, and A Bulgaria to Hold. That would be fine, but I would like to see F Greece to Support A Bulgaria Hold. When it became problematic was when he then sent a change for just A Bulgaria - Serbia. At this point I am left to guess at what his intentions were. His fleet can not support a moving unit. Let us also assume that his fleet was an army. Then would I assume that he wants the support to now be for the moving unit? As it turns out, nothing would have likely changed in the results, but it could be significant. The morale of the story is please complete the end of the support order, and when you send a change order, it is not a bad idea to resend all of the orders. You might catch a mistake. Sorry Chris if you feel like I was picking on you, it was just to show an example. Also if you send orders in early enough and I catch invalid move, I will try to let you know.

We have four retreats this turn. Austria's army in Budapest falls back to its only option of Trieste (unless you want to disband it.) Turkey's fleet falls back to Smyrna (unless you want to disband it.). Germany has two retreats and unfortunately the only option for both is Kiel. This means only one can retreat, the other must disband. In the interest in keeping the game moving along, we with do builds and retreats at the same time. If you feel your builds could vary depending on the outcome of Germany's decision to retreat, you may submit your orders to show what you would like to build in either case and I will take care of it.

So what I need is:

Austria: nothing
Britain: 1 build
France: 1 build
Germany: Your retreat and disband decision, plus another disband of your choice.
Italy: nothing
Russia: nothing
Turkey: 1 build

I have also had a request to speed up the turn cycle to about 5 days instead of a week. I am completely fine with the increased pace (with the exception that I generally do not plan due dates for weekends), so the decision is up to all of you. Please let me know by Friday whether or not you wish to increase the pace. Also let me know if you would be ok with weekend due dates.

Finally....
Build/Retreat/Disband/Pace Orders will be due by 6pm EST on Monday 7 APRIL 2008. I will send out the results sooner if I have them, so get them in.

With great pleasure in assisting you.
Your humble gamemaster
DaveE

Hey gang,

Further action in South America, Asia and even some in Europe this turn. Retreats are required from Brazil, Austria and Russia. Deadline for Summer 1871 will be set for Saturday, Apr 5th (11:59 PM GMT).

I'm attempting something different with this turn and just trusting the RP adjudication. Please give it a once-over and let me know if you spot any mistakes. Cheers!

Another hold..... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I am so sorry for another delay.

It seems that Eric (France) may be dropping from the rolls. I have not heard from him in some time. I have sent him an email asking if he is still with us. I will give it a little time and then if nothing, I will adjudicate and bring on another player. I hate to see this happen twice in one game, but alas we are "blessed" with this truth. Please be patient. As I have told you who we are waiting on, do not send any new orders, I have what I will be using.

Mike/Steve/Trout-
Do you guys know anything about [u:d8b40e6c85]everytime[/u:d8b40e6c85] (he signed his email Willie)? He contacted me in regards to the FOW game, and I see he was on the Forum. He asked me to keep him in mind to fill in any games. He seems like a bit of a maverick....?

Game Start - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The country assignments have been made and available by linking to DC175 in 'Open Games' as are: the DiplomaticCorp House Rules, the GM House Rules, the start of game positions and the GM and players' contact email addresses, plus the rest of the information you'll need. Note that the GM has a secondary email address that copy orders can be sent to at sforzapaolo - at - gmail - dot - com (written like this to confound email-harvesters. Please do everything you can to reduce spam). The latest Rules of Diplomacy can be found at http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/diplomacy_rulebook.pdf

The standard time for all deadlines is 1800 GMT/UTC. Deadlines will usually be 5-6 days apart, Mon-Sun inclusive. Adjudications will usually be out within 36 hours.

SPRING 1901 HAS 2 DEADLINES. YOU MUST GET PRELIMINARY ORDERS TO ME BY 1800 GMT/UTC, SUNDAY, APRIL 6TH 2008. THESE ORDERS CAN BE CHANGED, ANY NUMBER OF TIMES, UP TO THE FINAL DEADLINE WHICH WILL BE 1800 GMT/UTC WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9TH 2008.

IF ANY PLAYER FAILS TO MEET THE 6TH APRIL DEADLINE THEN I SHALL REPLACE THEM WITH A RESERVE PLAYER. I DO NOT ISSUE REMINDERS. EACH OF YOU MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THIS EMAIL BY RETURN.

IT IS THE TIME I RECEIVE THE ORDERS THAT IS IMPORTANT, SO MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN IN GOOD TIME.

We have at least one reserve player.

It's a standard game - so there won't be any retreat orders, disbandment or builds required in Spring 1901. The Dipwiki for 2-Season Dip has been put on the DiplomaticCorp website, but I think the formatting needs working on. The text has been reviewed and agreed. When reading it, bear in mind that we shall be using the [u:768ade910f]Preference List Order Method [/u:768ade910f](for both dislodgements and adjustments), NOT conditional orders. I am getting a web-site together (hope to have it working by end of today or tomorrow) that will bring the necessary information via links onto one site.

The game is named '7 Pedigree Rats'. The title comes from the late Richard Sharp's book 'The Game of Diplomacy'. Now difficult to get hold of, the book was on-line for a while, but now seems to have a broken link. Things have moved on considerably since it was first published in 1978, but it is still a good read, if you can get hold of it.

I very much hope that each of you enjoy the game. [u:768ade910f]Please - no NMRs - ever[/u:768ade910f].

Remember that there is no such thing as a dumb question - so if you are unsure of anything then please ask.

It is Spring 1901 and storm clouds are gathering over Europe...

DC170 fall 1902 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
We suffer our first NMR of the game, as the Tsar has gone missing. I have ordered all Russian units to hold. Per tournament rules, there is no civil disorder regardless of how many NMRs a player may incur, and the player may return at any time.

As it is, Russia ends up drawing the short straw, as three different powers take control of centers previously under Russian control. However, Germany may be seeking a larger piece of the action, as the Kaiser tries but fails to drive England out of Sweden. Germany and Turkey, both with support from Austria, take Warsaw and Sevastopol respectively. Elsewhere, England sails into the English Channel, while France moves full force towards Italy and successfully convoys an army to Tuscany.

Two Russian units were dislodged, F Sev and A War. The fleet in Sevastopol has no valid retreats and is scuttled. The army in Warsaw may retreat to Prussia, Livonia, or OTB.

Many of you will have winter 1902 adjustments due, as follows:

Austria build 1
England build 1
Germany build 2
Russia remove 2 (remove 1 if Warsaw retreats OTB)
Turkey build 1

Both the autumn 1902 retreat and winter 1902 adjustments are due at the same time, tomorrow 4/4 at 3pm Pacific (23:00 GMT).

DC152 (wb0817) - Fall 1913 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Heya gang,

Found a slight mistake in the Spring adjudication as I had directed the English convoy to Norway whereas it had been ordered to Denmark. England orders from Denmark in the Fall, so thankfully there is no real effect. Meanwhile, France rolls into two Russian centers and England storms into Galicia.

Winter adjustments are due tomorrow, April 4th (11:59 PM GMT). Please double-check me here and let me know if you spot anything astray.

Cheers!

Awarding the player rating points - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
This is something that bothers me (an avid number cruncher and amateur stats fanatic).

My brother and I were discussing this some time ago, but we could not find anyplace where we could look at the formula for determining the point adjustments to the player ratings for wins, draws, and losses. By looking at some old games we have a sense of it, but we were wondering, in the interest of transparency, if this information could be disclosed?

I believe that I was also informed that a replacement player does not take as much of a hit for a loss. I even used this information to entice one player to pick up the reigns from a failing player. Could this be better explained? Maybe I have bad information?

Thank you for any consideration on this.

ps. I love the two different point systems! I think it is great to reward loyalty, even if they player has had a run of bad luck, (or just isn't that good!)

Cleaning up the Player Roster - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
This is by no means a priority, but I was thinking about the player roster. With the large influx of new members (the list has nearly doubled since I joined in December 2007) the player list is getting slower to load. Is there a way to either subdivide the list or eliminate players who signed up but never played and haven’t logged in recently.

So as not to offend or disenfranchise anyone, I think a active player list that includes all players currently playing, recruiting, or gamemastering, plus anyone who has logged on to the site during the last month, and then a separate inactive player list that lists everyone else not currently on the active player list. I am not positive how well this would address the volume issue, but I thought it might be a starting point for a discussion.

I would very much welcome anyone to comment on this.

Once Within: To tide you over... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
While we bear this slight delay, with players shouting, screaming, Hey -
I need my moves, it's time to play and see what fruits my orders bore
We look around and see what that is in our box tonight a status
of the game and what thereat is deep below the ocean floor
Let thy heart be still a moment as we hold for one day more
Results out soon, both sweet and sore
