Points - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
How are points awarded at the end of a game. For instance is it better to be part of a 5 way draw or to be second in a solo win??? [Reply] |
Diplomaticcorp - Latest Variant Games Up For Actio... - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
Jim Morrison once said "... real poetry doesn't say anything; it just ticks off the possibilities. Opens all doors. You can walk through anyone that suits you." With that in mind, we here is the amazingly poetic selection of games currently recruiting for players at DC:
re005 - Hugh Polley's Engineer Variant. This groovey little game is set on a standard map but includes the possibility of building engineers to tinker with and enhance your power's forces. Unlike the real world though, these engineers manage to do the work without the chaos or confusion - or giant mounds of paperwork. =)
re004 - Our fearless Deathblade Penguin once again steps into the frey, running a Deluge game. Set on a standard map, each turn another province (or provinces) falls under the rising ocean waters and disappears from the board. This one's a real scramble for high ground...
re003 - A game of the Youngstown variant - run by The Gentleman, Alex Schmidt. Tried, tested and true - this game has always been a crowd favorite.
re002 - Fall Of The American Empire - helmed by some fishy character. One of the few variants out there set on the North American map. Gives you the chance to show those Canadian hosers where to stick their hockey pucks.. =P
re001 - As always, this one is a vanilla dip standard game. GM to be determined. We have four players in already and just need three more for this puppy to launch.
With those choices, there's a lot of bang for your DC buck. Hope to see you on the boards!!

Merits vs. Player Rankings - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
At DC there's now two different points system.
[u:28a974a09a]Player Ratings[/u:28a974a09a] - This rates how well you do in the games that you play. Your rating goes up the most if you solo, less if you are part of a draw and the least amount if you eke out a survival.
If someone solos then all other players lose. The loss points are distributed among them. Therefore, it is much better to be part of a draw than to be second place when someone solos. (IMHO there actually IS no second place if someone solos - but that is only an opinion.)
[u:28a974a09a]Charter Of The Companion Merits [/u:28a974a09a]- This is a gauge of how active you are in the club. You get 10 Merits for every game GM'd, and from 5 - 8 Merits for every game played to the end.
With the Merits, the only difference between soloing and drawing is that you get 8 Merits for a solo win and 6 Merits for being included in the draw. However, even if you are eliminated, you get 5 Merits provided that you played the position to the bitter end.
Hope that makes sense at all. Just let us know if it doesn't.

It is much better to be part of a 5-way draw than second to a solo win, cuz second to a solo win is a loss! Drawing is much better than losing... a 5-way draw would earn around 2-3 points (not much) but 2nd to a solo win would probly net you a small loss instead.

In the list of 'variants' some seem to be broken links. Also, all links seem to be adding a \ instead of a / to the link address. This is causing some of the problems, but isn't (for example) the problem with a variant rules for Deluge - which are unviewable. [Reply] |

DC 128 Results Delay - test_gm (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am) |
I am sorry about my huge delay sending out the results for DC 128. I thought I had sent them out on Thursday night but apparently my internet cut out just as I was sending it and it never went through. I then went away and didn't get to check my e-mail for a while over the holiday. Anyway I will send out results tonight and I will make builds due on Thursday at 5:00. Sorry for the delay.

and builds tonight and get something out regarding our next deadline. Thanks for the feedback. Eddie shall
go into Anarchy and will be ordered to stand as have the others.
Eddie - thanks and sorry it couldn't work out. Best of luck with training.

Hiya!
Diplomaticcorp.com actually uses email for communication between players rather than a forum, and then after each turn the results are displayed on a graphical map for that game.
If you'd like to join a new game (this one has been running for a couple of weeks or so already), you can go to the front page of the site, and click on the "Open Games" link at the top.
Game re001 (always second from the top) will always be a "basic" game, or if you have some experience and want to try one of the variants, there are usually several of those to choose from as well.[Reply] |
