DC124 - Fall 1903 - Battered by the Waffle-Iron of... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey folks,

Feel the red-hot griddle-plates of Justice! A titanic struggle for control around the German heartland. English pirates steal into Brest and ferret away the crown jewels. And in the south, Russia and Austria take advantage of the Turkish implosion.

One retreat was required, but it was an automatic. The French fleet in Brest had only Gascony to retreat to so I took the liberty. Morgan, if OTB was preferred, please just let me know. In the meantime, I think we can squeeze in the Winter turn before Josh returns. Please have Winter adjustments in to me by Saturday, Dec 8th (11:59 PM GMT).

As always, please just let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers all!

DC129 In Rainbows - Fall 1902 - All I Need - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I'm the next act
Waiting in the wings
I'm an animal
Trapped in your hot car
I am all the days that you choose to ignore

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Trapped in a hot car" is a great way to describe this turn. The new Kaiser juggles furiously but is unable to dislodge England from his perch in Holland. France makes steam into the Western Mediterranean and Russia bounces the opportunistic Brits from St. Petersburg. The move for position in 1902 leaves the adjustments few and far between.

Thus, England and Italy secure a build while no love is shown to our fresh replacement, who is forced to disband. Deadline for Winter adjustments will be set for Saturday, December 8th (11:59 PM GMT).

One note, however. Some of our fearless players are moving away from the habit of including the game number in the subject header. ( i.e. writing DC-129.) While this isn't technically required, it sure helps me sort the emails quickly and is greatly appreciated. This is one of many games that I'm involved with, and game designators on the emails makes your humble GM very happy. =P

Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers gang!

dc140 (re001) game start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I am pleased to announce the start of our game, which will now be numbered dc140. This game will be named "The Never Ending Story," a little commentary about my current work environment. (Kevin, if you're out there, they're coming back again next week!) The player roster and country assignments appear at the end of this message. Martin, I hope you are able to join another game soon, a fresh re001 should be coming very soon.

Please indicate the game number, your country, the season of play, and a version number for your orders in any e-mails to me: e.g. "dc140 England spring 1901 orders, v1". I am involved in two other games, so as you might expect, I have lots of Dip-related e-mail traffic -- the header allows me to use mail filters so that I don't lose anything, or inadvertently mix up your orders with those I saw in another game. If you have any questions of a technical nature that are not addressed in the official Diplomacy rules or my House Rules, I'll do my best to answer those. However, I can't address strategy or divulge any information about another player's orders/plans (or lack thereof).

Also, don't forget to subscribe to the dc140 forum on the group website. I will send all my notices to everyone's individual e-mail addresses as well, but it doesn't hurt to have a backup. On that theme, I maintain a secondary e-mail address, coryfucius(at)gmail.com (coryfucius(at)gmail.com), to ensure that the game isn't hindered by any problems that periodically arise with Yahoo mail. Please feel free to send e-mails to both of my addresses; I would rather receive 2 copies of a message than take the chance of the only copy getting lost.

I encourage each of you to introduce yourselves to the rest of the players. My name is Cory Burris, and I have been involved in Diplomacy for nearly 2 years. This is my second time serving as a GM with the DC club. In real life, I work as a budget analyst for a large US state, am married, and have one child.

About 24 hours before each deadline, I will do my best to send out a reminder notice. But this is not a promise, and the deadline won't be delayed if I am unable to send a reminder, meeting the deadline is your responsibility. With each adjudication, I will include both a .gif file and a Realpolitik .dpy file. If you don't have RP yet, I highly recommend it -- the club website has a link to this program. The adjudication text, .gif file, and current player stats can also be found on the club website.

Our first deadline, for the spring 1901 orders, will be Thursday 12/13 at 3pm Central (US). I strongly encourage preliminary orders, especially on the first turn. With the holidays approaching, I would like to get in a full game year before vacation schedules slow us down.

Thanks for playing, everyone!

dc140 (re001) game start! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi all,

I will also introduce myself. My name is Denis Sauer and I'll be playing England. I've already played on the board game, but quite new to the internet playing. I live in Switzerland, between Geneva and Lausanne, and work in an electronics start-up.

I 'll take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Nick Cherrier and I will be playing Germany. This is my second diplomacy game ever, so I am still learning the ropes.
About me, I'm 23, living in Canberra, Australia and I work for the French Embassy down there!
I wish you all a lot of fun and I am looking forward to some nice discussions with all of you.

Cheers,

.ExternalClass DIV {;} I am pleased to announce the start of our game, which will now be numbered dc140.

Well I guess I will continue the introductions.

My name is Kyle Mundell and I'll be playing as the French Empire in this game.
I learned about the board game through my high school history class while learning about World War I. I got instantly addicted and am looking forward to playing online.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and I love to play hockey.
This is also my first game on diplomaticorp.

Good Luck,
Kyle

Dc115 Some Clarifications. - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dear Players of Dc115.

Some Clarifications.

A Solo win outranks a joint win. Therefore if one player brings their 2 countries to a combined SC of 20 they will beat 2 players who bring one country to a SC of 14 (if done in the same winter).

If 2 or more players both acheive 20 plus SC then the one with the highest SC count will be declared the winner.

If 2 or more players draw on their SC count of 20 or over then an immediate JOINT WIN (not a JOINT SOLO) will be offered to those players. They can vote YES to accept the joint win or NO to force the game into a TIEBREAK situation. Only players with 20 or more SC can vote in this vote.

If the game continues in a TIEBREAK situation it will be played until ONE of those players has a larger number of SC (and over 20 at the end of winter, ie a clear leader). This section of the game shall be called TIE-BREAK. NO DIAS proposals will be accepted once the TIEBREAK game starts and no other player (apart from those named in the tiebreak) can win the game.

Discussions, comments are welcome.

One retreat was required, but it was an automatic. The French fleet in Brest had only Gascony to retreat to so I took the liberty. Morgan, if OTB was preferred, please just let me know. I am leaving on vacation starting Thursday, and Stephen has agreed to be the substitute GM while I'm gone. Since I am leaving so soon I will allow Stephen to set the next deadline, and please keep in mind that the time of day that orders are due are likely to change since Stephen and I are on opposite sides of the world. I will return on December 8th, and I look forward to see how things are doing. Good luck!

Soon I will be a civil engineer and now I'm writing this mail from a construction site (Reconstruciton of the old Hotel Palace, Portorož, Slovenia) that I'm working at as a student. I'm interested in open source, civil engineering, design, psicology and I like cooking, listening to alternative and underground music, making some funny videos for my friend, doing massage to (hot) girls, to learn new languages, to travel and meet new people.
I played Diplomacy through the internet some years ago (when I had more time than now) and now I'm back.
My mails always start with slovenian greetings so don't be scared.

Good luck to everybody and I hope we will have very good colaboration

Hi all,

I will also introduce myself. My name is Denis Sauer and I'll be playing England. I've already played on the board game, but quite new to the internet playing. I live in Switzerland, between Geneva and Lausanne, and work in an electronics start-up.
I'm looking forward to this game with all of you!

Hey guys,

I 'll take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Nick Cherrier and I will be playing Germany. This is my second diplomacy game ever, so I am still learning the ropes.
About me, I'm 23, living in Canberra, Australia and I work for the French Embassy down there!
I wish you all a lot of fun and I am looking forward to some nice discussions with all of you.

Cheers,

Nick Cherrier (Germany)

Hosting a private game on DC - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi!
Having read the above I must ask;
How do I go about GMing a private game through DC, i.e. a game exclusively for my friends?

We have a mix of experienced and novice board-game players, but RL keeps getting in the way for a face-to-face setup.

Regards
Mormegill

GMing on DC - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
GMing a game on DC would be just a little different. Though I think I can safely say that we're always welcome to new folks who'd like to run a game.

There are a few basic guidelines for GM's that we like all those running games to be aware of. (Things to do with game timelines, house rules, etc, etc.)

What to do if you are interested in becoming a GM is to fill out the 'Become A GM' form on the LH side of the webpage. Then Penger will get in touch with you to give you more information.

Cheers!

Trout
