DC130 Imperial1840 ~ Deadline extension - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sirs,

France thanks Holland for his greetings and apologies, and sends wine, frogs
legs and snails to Holland, so they may try more...upmarket food rather than
mere stavation rations of beer and sausages.

To Austria France says, did you mean Zone de Demilitarize, because i thought
you were refering to Declimitised Marine Zone...we should probably clear that up

France

Quoting Michael Sims <mike(at)southwall.com>:

Gentlemen,

Austria has received said greetings and apologies with great forgiveness. We
send some of our finest sausages and beer to the people of the Dutch
countryside in hopes that they shall eat well.

To France we have to ask if the letters DMZ mean anything to you. "Diss'es
Mes' Zone" perhaps? Clarification would be appreciated, as apparently these
three letters of the alphabet do not translate well to French.

Austria

Gentlemen,

Holland sends its greetings and its sincerest apologies for any delay.

The Mighty Quinn is still pondering the fate of the Dutch in our little
experiment - or he's fallen off the planet.

Moves are locked down, and Holland has until 1400 GMT (0800 Jerry time)
to get his in and I'll adjudicate from work.

Not a good start Sad

dc133 Game Start: To Heir Is Human - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
WELCOME ALL!

To this our 133rd game of diplomaticcorp Diplomacy.

(ok actually it's our 134'th as Jason got his dc134 started before I did but who's counting)

To the pros in the group, feel free to skip to the bottom to get started and skip all this babble...

First off I don't know hardly any of you, so any intro's are definitely welcome... ME-- I'm 34 and live in California with my wife and two little kids. Thus all the deadlines I give you will always be in Pacific Standard Time, which has just recently changed to GMT-8. (2pm Pacific = 5pm Eastern = 10pm GMT) I'm a Physics major by schooling, but got into the computer world right out of high school and so now I build networks and dabble in web design.

My deadlines-- will always be for 2pm Pacific, and usually around a week apart. If that schedule does not work for anyone, let me know.

Being that there are lots of new players here, I've been waiting for a good game to use this title... There's quite a few new names, and who knows how many errors that will bring. Whatever transpires, if you do find yourself in a lurch, do remember that this game is never over... a 1-center power can survive to the end, and a convincing leader can turn the tides of even the worst results.

Our game_page is:
www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc133
I'll try to keep the site updated w the latest map and adjudications, so if you bookmark that you can always see what's transpired in the game.

My house rules:
www.sims-family.net/dip/houserules.htm
(Some things to carry us thru any sticky situations that may arise)

Our forum:
dc133(at)diplomaticcorp.com
Any press you send with your orders will get posted there, as well the adjudications, and anything else I find interesting about the game. Any of you can mail interesting stuff directly to the forum, or you can post via the website.

You can find our dc133 forum here:
http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=43

If you want to receive email feeds of any posts regarding this game, then go to the Message Board, and click on Subscriptions and subscribe yourself to the distribution. You will ONLY receive mail sent about THIS game, if you sign up to only this one forum.

Where do you send orders? TO ME: mike(at)southwall.com. Some people make the grave heir (hehe) of sending their moves to the forum. Only send them to me! I am on my email 24/7, so if you do not receive a "Confirmed" email reply from me within a day, then it is very likely that I did not receive them, and so do send again or find some other way to contact me:

I can be reached any time via:
Yahoo Messenger: poobaloo
MSN Messenger: poobaloo
Or the forums, or via contacting either of our mods Steve or Trout. Therefore there is always some way to get hold of me.

*******************************************

And to anyone who skipped ahead... So ya think you're a pro, huh? We'll just see when the game's done!

Enjoy,
-mike

Hello everybody,

I'll use this thread to introduce myself, since poobaloo did that too. This is my first diplomacy game. I live in Holland, and I study Applied Mathematics there. I'm 17. I played lots of Mafia games on the internet, so I'm familiar with forumgames, and I played Risk in real life so I hope I can learn diplomacy easily. Good luck to y'all!

Dc113: WE ALL LEARN A LESSON. - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Okay Dc113ers.

Nearly all of us have learnt a lesson today.

1) I, as the GM, learn that if i dont have time to send a 24 hour reminder - only Austria will submit moves.

2) YOU, the players (not Austria) have learnt DONT RELY ON MY 24 HOUR REMINDER. I'm just as busy as the next man (especally being a teacher in the middle of writing reports)..

However since, i am reluctant to hand this game to Austria on a platter (although if you keep going the way you are with not submitting prelims.....)

I will grant a 24 hours extentsion for the following countries to submit moves

England
France
Russia

Only Austria has his Grace period left. So from now on, Mr Adjudicate on time has entered the building for everyone else.

Subject: DC134 - The Wheel Of Time IP- GameStart

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.
The wind blew down the rugged slopes of the Mountains of Mist, thick with the smell of winter though Spring was long overdue. It flowed across the river Taren and deep into the Caralain grass.
It whipped the flags of seven small armed encampments as the leaders of the new Seven Confederations walked to the Council tent.
Davram Bashere, High Seat of House Bashere, Lord of Bashere, Tyr and Sidona, Guardian of the Blightborder, Defender of the Heartland, and Marshal-General to Queen Tenobia of Saldaea and Lord Agelmar of House Jagad of Fal Dara represent the Unified Borderlands. Siuan Sanche, Watcher of the Seals, Flame of Tar Valon, The Amyrlin Seat with the Warders Coulin Gaidin and Hammar Gaidin represent the Eastland Confederation, Tar Valon taking command of the chaos in Cairhien. Morgase Trakand, by the Grace of the Light, Queen of Andor, Defender of the Realm, Protector of the People, High Seat of House Trakand and Gareth Bryne, Captain-General of the Queen's Guard represent the Midlands, mighty Andor and recently conquered Murandy. King Mattin Stepaneos den Balgar, having finally crushed his southern rivals in Tear commands all the Southlands, while Pedron Niall, Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light controls Amadacia, Ghealdan and Altara. Lord Rodel Ituralde, the Wolf, has unified Arad Domon and Tarabon under his great baner. Finally, Nesta din Reas Two Moons, Malin din Toral Breaking Wave, Mistress of the Ships to the Atha'an Miere and her Master of the Blades Baroc with their multi-tiered parasols fluttering, represent all the naval power of the Sea Folk.
All present know the stakes. The Dark One is breaking free. The never-ending winter is proof for anyone who cares to look. All agree that mankind must be united to face the Last Battle. What cannot be agreed upon is who should command the great host. With angry shouts and threats of violence, the Compact of the Seven Confederations is broken before it can even form. As the tent empties a shadow resolves itself into a too-tall Myrddraal holding two spears, one short, the other tasseled. He Laughs as the spears blacken and turn to ash. This time it will be too easy Shadar Haran thinks as he fades back into the shadows.
Let the Lord of Chaos Rule!

Inverted - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I was bored the other day so I came up w this. It’s IDENTICAL to the standard map and entirely playable as a standard game… except it is completely inverted topologically. The standard map has two unplayable regions… Switzerland, and the “outside”… this map takes the outside to the middle, and Switzerland to the outside, but otherwise is completely equivalent to playing on the standard map.

It is a funky idea, I have to admit. Its like the Circular topographically equivalent map. (http://www.diplom.org/Online/maps/stdmap.gif)

I've always felt that you lose something when you play on that map though. Maybe I'm just nostalgic about European geography - I don't know...

DC112 fall 1906 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fall 1906 arrives, and the 4-way draw proposal is voted down. We also say goodbye this year to Archduke Jason, whose final order did manage to bounce Italy from Trieste. Jason, thanks for sticking with the game!

Italy finds itself under attack from all sides, and suffers a forced disband in Vienna, as well as a retreat from Western Med. Brian, your fleet may retreat to Gulf of Lyon, Tyrrhenian Sea, or OTB.

For winter 1906, Germany and Russia are entitled to 1 build each. Italy may build 1 if he retreats OTB. Both the retreat and build orders will be due Tuesday 11/13 at 3pm Central (US). I will announce the retreat order before then if I receive it ahead of the deadline.
