DC143 fall 1907 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Austria takes full advantage of Russian civil disorder, marching unopposed into Moscow and also reoccupying Sevastopol. France successfully holds on to Belgium, while Germany offsets its loss by taking control of Sweden. France convoys an army to Tunis and moves fleets toward Scandinavia, Germany moves armies to cover both Denmark and Munich, and Austria pushes into Galicia.

No retreats are due, so we move directly to winter 1907 adjustments, as follows:
Austria build 2
France build 1
Russia remove 1

Because Russia is in civil disorder, and two of the three remaining Russian units are located in home centers, I will auto-disband its only unit not sitting in a center, the army in Ukraine.

Due to a requested delay, the winter 1907 adjustments will be due Friday 6/20 at 23:59 GMT. If I receive adjustment orders marked "final" before then from both Niklas and Joe, I will post results before then. Thanks!

Cory

DC 156, DEADLINE WARNING and other info - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hey gents,

So here's the deal. Our French player has had to bow out for personal reasons, but since he did not let me know about this until just before the deadline, I am going to run the turn with a French nmr. I hope to get to that soon.

After that I will ask at the club for a replacement to play out the French side.... or make a miraculous recovery... time will tell.

So, the adjudication is coming as soon as I can put aside work for an hour or so. Hang in there.

Warren

Deadline in about 32 hours, and I am still short some orders.....

I'm going to be travelling in some remote areas for the next couple of weeks, so my access might be a bit spotty. It shouldn't affect the game much, but some of my adjudications might not go right on schedule.

My apologies for this, but it's unavoidable.

Cheers,

To Replace or not to Replace that is the Question! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi Guys,

Firstly, let me say this is in no way a criticism of any GM I am currently playing under, and I mean that.

I would be interested to hear the opinions of wiser and more experienced players than me on the topic of withdrawals/NMR's.

To replace or not to replace ~ that is the question!

I am playing in two games at the moment where this question has arisen.
One where replacements have been sought, the other where CD has been declared and play continues.

In the first game, as players dropped out, new players were sought. As a newbie I didnt like what I thought then was a unnecessary delay but can see as the game wears on that my frustration over the delays is more than matched by a better more balanced game.

In the other game, Italy, Turkey and now Russia have all disappeared into the wilderness and CD'dom , leaving us in the Western side of the board fighting amongst each other for crumbs, while Austria cruises effortlessly to circa 14/15 centres. Not Austria's fault, and good luck to him, but surely not quite fair to us warring Western Nations?

While we bicker fight and stab over one or two centres, the Power alongside the defauters doesnt have to exercise any brain cells let alone an ounce of Diplomacy. But maybe this reflects life the way it is?

Would be interested to hear views of more experienced and long standing members on the site as well as newbies like myself concerning this issue.

Thanks,

Joe Smile

Dc159/Dc189 Brain melt down - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Attention Dc159ers and Dc189ers

Apparently I've just been informed I missed my own deadlines last night and didn't send out the adjudications. No excuse really - just a mental blank.

I will try and get both adjudications out as soon as possible.

I believe I am missing moves from both games so if you have not submitted, get them in asap.

******************
Frisians to Britons : I will give you Fla as an offering of peace. After this year leave it as a DMZ?

Frisians to Norse : Skip your pact, get the Danes while the picking is good. They won't be able to stop you.
*****************
Brits, the Welsh have declined our offer for peace. Even though a dmz of Cel is ideal, we would like to propose that you take Cel by force, and we can support you onto the mainland. The Welsh want to bounce in St. instead of allowing us to send our fleets back to Gal as we’d offered. This is unfortunate, but necessary. After dislodging us to Bri, you can count on support for Bre-Cor.

If the Welsh propaganda turns out to be a farse and they move instead to Bri, then we would encourage you to move Bay-Cel just the same.

To the Picts and Scots, you guys seem to hit it off on the wrong foot! Be sure to heed the Angle-Welsh team forming that will control 13 centres after this year.

To the Saxons, for the love of God I hope you are able to survive the coming onslaught that might have the Angles and Welsh controlling most of great Britain.

Ireland
****************************
Britons, I trust the new fleet's placement is to better repel our common interloper.

Angles, unless obvious circumstances prevent it, I will continue to support as per your instructions.

Irish, I'm comfortable with you in Wes, and will proceed as indicated earlier, barring any further bluster. In the meantime, straight sailing!

-Wales

Picts' announcement:
To Scots: Could we keep our peace? You have many space for expansion.

To Nores: My moves are for defensive purpose. If you go Westward, I will try my best to defend against you!

To Angles: I appreciate your DMZ. Keep it! And sorry I try FIR. It's for defensive purpose.
*****************************
Saxons to Neighbors [Angles and Welsh specifically]: Can you guys lay off already? I keep having NO CHOICE but to defend myself and be aggressive to hold my own lands.

Saxons to Welsh - Note that my Wig-Wil is in effect a pointless move designed simply to ensure that no support can be given. It in NO WAY threatens my Welsh friends. Hopefully you have seen that my moves thus far have been in good faith not to attack you.

Saxons to Angles - I keep having to move in accordance with defending myself. Hence the bounce in Suf and the A build in Lon. The moves this turn were designed to ensure that you get Suf and I get Mid...basically meaning we continue a precarious balance of power that gains NONE of us anything while others grow and we fight one another.

Saxons to All - HELP!!!!
**********************
Danes to Norse: fine with a one-turn move through SKA so long as you then head to Dog or Hor. F BAL with move west as soon as I can manage it.
**********************
Norse to all. Somebody is good at faking press... This is press 1

Norse to Picts.. I suggest that you don't provoke a fight. This is press 2

Norse to Scots. But if Picts are picking a fight then we are natural allies. This is press 3

Norse to Danes. Go west as the band once said. This is press 4********************

Heya 166'ers...

Just a gentle nudge from your not-so-gentle GM that Fall 1913 orders are due in 10 hours. I believe I have all sets in hand, so we're looking good.

Cheers!

Too Many Abandonments? - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi Everyone,

I am new to the site, but not new to hobby and had a question. I have played one game on the site thus far (dc142) which contained not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 abandonments. Is that par for the course? I certainly hope not, but I was wondering what the average number of abandonments is per game here?

I just started a world dip game (195) and I really like the variant, but I am concerned that the game will be adversely affected by civil disorders - nothing can ruin a game or give someone an edge like an untimely abandonment.

Also, i was wondering if there is a punishment for abandoning a game or a limit to the number of games a player can play at once (leading to a potential abondonment due to time constraints).

Thank you,
Steve

Steve, Thanks for a very good question.
4 abandons in a standard game is very high for our site.
Many games (mike cold give the detailed numbers) go without a single Abandon.
Players who abandon a game get a big ding against their player rating, and several abandons will make it likely that a GM will not accept them into their game.
Players are limited to one game until they have completed their first game, but exceptions are made for those who prove reliable.
As always, we are at the mercy of real life.
Most Abandons are replaces, not CD'ed. Many players will find their own replacements if RL prevents them from continuing. Also we have the Light Brigade, a group of players who get notified when a game needs a replacement. This keeps our games moving with only slight delays most of the time.

Jason,

Thanks for the reply, that is a relief.

Lets hope this World game isn't plagued like my first game was.

Copy & Pasting the Players chart to Excel, then doing some quick sums and divisions...

We're on game dc195, 1630 players have played (including duplicates)

This makes for an average of 8.4 players per game, which sounds reasonable given most games are standard but some are larger.

There have been 250 total of Abandons and Civil Disorders, which is 1.3 per game, or about 1 per 7-player game. Sounds high, but that's more like Steve's game getting 4, and then a few games getting none.

Anyways, those are the stats! We are doing everything we can to reduce the impact of Abandons on games... suggestions are definitely welcome. It's very hard to prevent tho, since well... it's everyone's perogative to quit.

One could write a book on the merits of replacing vs civil disorder... you'll find both methods in play here, including hybrids like mine. Thoughts on which is better?

DC177 Spring 1904 Results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
At last. My apologies for the issues; let's get this game back into the
flow!

Russia re-garrisons Sev but sees German units move into Nwy and Fin,
Italy knocks Russia out of Vie, Turkey takes Sev back from the unordered
Austrian fleet, and England has one turn to get back into one of his
home centers as they all fill up with enemy units.

Austria NMRs, in case you didn't read the fine print, and thus his F Smy
is auto-disbanded. There are, however, 4 other retreats (see below
adjudication). These are due to me by tomorrow (Friday) at 9 pm
eastern. Fall 1904 will follow on Tuesday (the 24th).
