WWIV f01 results! (more notes) - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Everybody builds at least one, tho with 22 nations racking up 3 builds, anything less seems… uncivilized?

CHECK YOUR BUILDS BELOW! All 35 players are entitled to build. Builds are due to me by Monday July 7, however as soon as I get them all I’ll post the results.

One RETREAT is required, Mexico’s fleet Monterey can retreat to WGM or Vcz, or disband and Build 3 instead.

RETREATS and BUILDS are all due together - Monday July 7, 10am Pacific.

Special notices
- Welcome Paolo, sforzapaolo(at)yahoo.com (sforzapaolo(at)yahoo.com), playing Catholica for year 2 - Mikael to return for year 3.
- Welcome Alf, alfred.nicol(at)virgin.net (alfred.nicol(at)virgin.net), playing Japan for year 2 - Frank to return for year 3.

Enjoy!
-mike

WWIV f01 results! (correction 1) - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Correction: Inca’s A Bio-Snt succeeds. Was an error in the .map file. Inca is +3, not +2.
Correct map, results, and standings can be found online: www.diplomaticcorp.com?game_id=dc195
Enjoy!

HAPPY CANADA DAY, EH!!! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
I knew I hated Trout and Warren for a reason...

CANADA DAY?! Bahhh..once we Alaskans can get our rading party on, and steal the Kokanee Brewery and move it to Haines...we can dispense with the whole notion of "Canada"...

Yours,
Fletch

Trout et al,
In my shame, I forgot all about Canada Day. As a Michigander, and therefore honorary Canuck, I feel it is my American duty to honor the traditions of our northern brethren. I have no Canadian beer to drink but, as luck may have it, I *do* have a French Canadian in the house to thoroughly trounce this evening. Wink

I don't recall Fletch ever saying Kokanee was "premium", just cool mountain freshness. We (Americans) already have that with Rolling Rock and Coors, but we wouldn't be as ashamed to drink a Kokanee in public!

Just had a nice 25oz Alaskan Amber during lunch today. Yum! I love business trips! Smile

Well here in AK where we DO have sled dogs and live in igloos....Ranier and Kokanee are the Chevy and Fords of beers. Whole hockey teams have fought over such discussions...and frankly, every time we try to play a Canadian team up from Whitehorse way--we need all of whichever we can get!

F

P.S. Kokanee is as Premo as it gets...although I grew up a Molsan Canadian man myself...

Smile

Wink

Oh you poor poor man.... They get Ranier up to the hinterlands, but not Red Hook? Damn. I'd be jumping on those ships and demnading them to pick up a few cases of real beer when their pulling out of Seattle! Smile

At least in AK, you've got enough ice to chill those "Near" beers and Kokanees down to a taste-bud-killing temperature!

P.S. Kokanee is as Premo as it gets...although I grew up a Molsan Canadian man myself...

Wink

Welsh, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedffice:smarttags" />Ireland has offered peace, and then attempted to defend her coast from the Welsh naval buildup. You say you follow our lead, yet you attack our coasts. The Irish have not attacked a single Welsh interest, but by the time this is posted, the Welsh will have invaded dear Irish waters.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />

Britions speak,

To Frisians,

We have realised the error of our ways and is thus withdrawing our support of the Danes. Since Norse seem to be on a similar line of thought, we see no need to help a sinking ship. We do need to reslove Hoe, I am reluctant to leave it empty since that limits my potential front and leaving it in your hands puts two of my centers in your direct line of fire...then again, I'm threthening 3 of your centers now. Difficult scenario - perhaps best to dmz? Alsom our armies will now continually support each other, if Hol and Rhe do the same, we have balance.

To Danes,

Sorry.

To Norse,

Go for Isle together with Frisians?

To Irish,

We will now attempt to enter Cel, since you are in a troubling position.

To Welsh,

As much as we value our friendship with the Welsh, just as much we are concerned about the fate of the Irish and the Saxons.

To Saxons,

We hear your pleas for help. If deal is cut with Frisians, Britons might send a fleet or two to help you out. Still working on the details here.

To Scots,

Are we on par?

Saxons to Neighbors [again]: No clue how this turns out but I will not stop with the bold cries for peace. The Welsh look to have a new direction to explore and there is no reason that those Armies can't be of use elsewhere. Not wishing ill upon the Irish, but...they do look to be an appealing target. And better that the Isle be Welsh than something else. The Angles and I both have better prospects and are making ZERO progress while others start to salivate. Please please let's stop. Surely there are fertile grounds elsewhere. If you kill me, however can the term WASP come into being?

Saxons to ALL: HELP!! I say, I say again - HELP!!

Angles, once again, if I lost Wil, do your best to cut the supports I'll need to retake it in the fall.

Irish, I realize your weakness for blarney. But the documented fact is I told you exactly where I would move last year: to bounce you in St. in the spring, and then move away from you in the fall. Instead of following suit, you encouraged the Britons to attack me, and chose to take St. As a result, it's you who's threatening my home SC, not the other way around. As always, I'll take your lead... and double you. This year you'll find me on your shores. That's where I'll remain unless somebody else makes me move, or you find a way to undo what you've started.

-Wales

Danes to Welsh: WOW!
Danes to Norse: happy to leave SKA, KAT as dmz while you mind the Picts

Wales: I couldn't have him retreating to Sta in the Spring, but please support Mer - Mid if you can this time around. I'll Cut Sus if I make it to Ken. Thanks!
- Angles

Norse press to Danes..... Will move as soon as threat gone. I was good with you and did not join in on the obvious 2-1 so please be good with me. To Picts. I have given you every opportunity to go elsewhere but you insist on coming for me, you leave me with no options. To Scots. Clearly the Picts will be a continuing threat to you and don't want you to have any presence on the mainland. Someone as stabby as he is probably going to grab everything else that he can if you did go down after the Irish. A move to CLY guarantees take next year and probably sets up taking 2...

Picts' Announcement:
To Danes: would you like secure your north? Let's work together
To Scots: thank you. I am looking forward to more cooperation. Hope you did well in your West. I will secure your back. If you have spare fleet, can you help me to drive Nores away?

DC176 - Winter 1906 Adjudication - CORRECTION - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Was a bit premature with the previous message.
I had not received a retreat from Germany (NMR) and thus is its unit surprisingly disbanded.
That means Germany has one instead of 2 SCs and just one unit left. Tough on Germany, but Austria benefits.
The rest stays the same.
--------------
What genius mind is advising the Russian Tzar?
Despite the odds, Russia managed to expand its empire.
It is almost as if someone pleased the gods, changed fate, and inspired the people.
Some say "it is the Mad Monk", others even whisper a name: "Rasputin".
Is is true, then?...

Germany is now the ruling Power of - odd but true - Marseille. Will it ever be able to return to its Heimat to grow again?
England has grown so fast, and perhaps unexpectedly, that is can only build one unit where two were within its reach. Some have called for the Lord High Admiral to step down as a result.

Winter adjustments:
Austria: Supp 7 Unit 7 Build 0
England: Supp 8 Unit 6 Build 1
France: Supp 5 Unit 5 Build 0
Germany: Supp 1 Unit 1 Build 0
Italy: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0
Russia: Supp 7 Unit 4 Build 3

Winter adjustments are due by July 20, 23:00 GMT because I will be traveling for the next 2 weeks.
Access to the Internet will be infrequent.
If I get all Final orders in before I may adjudicate earlier if time and location permits.

Your GM

It's an official wrap! Germany is voted as the soloist in DC-136, and this little dance-party rolls its way to an end.

My congratulations go to Joao for his impressive come-from-behind victory. Congratulations also go to our two surviving players, Rob and Jake. And my hearty thanks to all the players in this game for their efforts - I have to say that I enjoyed this one thoroughly. =)

End-of-game statements are MORE than welcome. (In fact, I encourage you to write them.) You guys have been a pleasure to GM, and I look forward to seeing you all in the next disco-war!

DC138 Winter Of Our Discontent - Early Winter 2011... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Our cookie surprise warns us this season that 'On wings of marshmellow you will fly free'...

And with boots of merangue you will kick some butt.. =) Seriously - I have NO idea what that could mean... But in any event, apologies for the late adjudication. Crazy, disgusting things were happening last night - apparently all of them to my internet connection. *sigh*

In mirror images of each other, California slips west and Florida slips east. That does it for the Autumn moves, and we move gracefully into Winter 2011 adjustments.. However, since a couple people are going on vacation, we kindof have a couple weeks in which to gather our thoughts... Happily, those who are leaving have already submitted their adjustments - so we'll schedule the Winter 2011 deadline for a little over a weeks time. Please have your builds and disbands in by Thursday, July 10th (11:59 PM GMT). The Spring 2012 turn will then be due on or around Friday, July 18th.

Oh, and the BC solo vote failed very convincingly. We make our bloody way onwards. =P

Cheers folks!

DC143 spring 1908 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Sorry for the 1-day delay, everyone, I was unexpectly absent yesterday. First things first, the Austrian solo proposal fails, so the game continues...

Germany takes punishment from both sides, suffering forced disbands in both Holland and Bohemia. However, France's attempted convoy to Norway is thwarted. French fleets do move eastward into both Barents Sea and Skagerrak. Austria largely stays in place, with the only movement towards Munich.

No retreats are due, so we move directly to fall 1908, which will be due Tuesday 7/8 at 23:59 GMT. If the US Independence Day holiday poses a problem for anyone, please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

WWIV, Catholica --> World - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fellow players,

A gentle reminder that I will be on vacation from 8th --> 25th July, thus Paolo will take over for me after builds 01 are posted. His adress is:

sforzapaolo(at)yahoo.com

Thus, any messages sent to me prior to builds should also be cc'ed to Paolo (in case someone forgets, I will forward them to him). Paolo will also cc me all messages during the time I'm away so that I can catch up on the talks and so forth. Paolo will thus run the show for spring-fall-builds of 02. Then I will resume command. I have briefed him on the situation and what's happened etc, but he will call the shots for 02.

If anyone is confused by this, do let me know asap.

/ Mikael

DC-184 Spring 1902 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
All,
I'm sure we've all seen the email from Kevin. I don't mean to sound harsh, but his responsibility was to inform me before he went on vacation. Kevin violated that responsibility, so the replacement was necessary.
I apologize for not adjudicating last night - a friend flew in last night from out of town, and in the cleaning frenzy, I completely forgot about Diplomacy. So sorry, I'll try to avoid that mistake in the future.

RUSSIAN FORCES EXPAND NORTH, SOUTH
Russian forces were spotted in Turkish and English territory this week, as fleets in Norway and Ankara, signal all out war with the Bear's neighbors. In related news, Rumania fell to a joint Austro-Turkish assault, drawing battle lines in very dangerous colors.

GERMANY, FRANCE SHORE UP FRONT LINES
Armies amassed along the border between France and Germany, setting the stage for a potentially devastating border skirmish. Speculators in the wine industry expect the price of Burgundy vintages to rise exorbitantly.

ITALIAN ARMIES SIGHTED NEAR AUSTRIA, AGAIN
Austrian forces in Trieste repelled an Italian incursion attempt yet again this week, while a regiment of Italian troops covertly landed in Albania under cover of coastal bombardment from the Ionian Sea. The consuls in Serbia and Greece have sued the Austrian government for peace, citing fears of potential fighting in major cities. The Austrian government has yet to respond.

ENGLISH SAILS OFF FRENCH NORTH COAST
The English Channel, long a peaceful zone between England and France, was full of British flags this week. The French armada in Brest tried valiantly to hold off the British invasion, but was severely outgunned and forced to fall back to the coast.
