DC176 - Winter 1901 - Builds and Spring 1902 deadl... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Factories have been working overtime this winter to meet the huge demand in Europe for steel.
Workers had been brought in from all around the country.
Black clouds and loud noise filled the air.

And look. What a magnificent sight.
Endless lines of machines of war leaving the factories.
In 5 different Supply Centers, Powers have been building new armies.
And in another 5, new fleets have entered the waters.

Austria: Build A Budapest
England: Build F London
France: Build F Marseilles, F Brest
Germany: Build A Kiel, A Berlin
Italy: Build F Naples
Russia: Build A Warsaw, A Moscow
Turkey: Build F Smyrna

And thus starts a new season. Spring 1902 is here.
People are gathering in large numbers to say farewell to their family and friends.
Where they're heading?
Wait and see....

Deadline for Spring 1902 orders is Tuesday 23.00 GMT.

Your GM
Frank

DC170 fall 1905 results! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Fall 1905 arrives, and it seems that France has become Public Enemy Number 1, as both the England/Germany and Austria/Turkey alliances pick off French centers. France does manage to grab Liverpool as some compensation. Elsewhere, England and Germany trade Edinburgh and Norway, and they combine to stop the Turkish march on St. Petersburg. Austria is the big winner, as the Archduke gains control of two rival capitals. Germany manages to hold off the Austrian attack on Kiel, and is likely breathing a sigh of relief that France did not order A Ruhr - Holland.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comSurprisedfficeSurprisedffice" />
The only dislodged unit is the French fleet in Rome, which has no valid retreats and is destroyed.

The Winter 1905 adjustments will be due tomorrow, Friday 4/25 at 3pm Pacific. I will be away tomorrow, so please be sure to send your adjustment orders to Mike Sims, as well as the orders box. I will be back on Monday for Spring 1906.

DC166 (wb0821) - Fall 1905 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
The headlines in Germany read of the valiant defense of Belgium. In England, they read of total victory in the German Heartland. Meanwhile, the French show the Brits what it means when the rain falls mainly on the plain in Spain. =)

Deadline for the Winter 1905 retreat and builds/disbands will be set for Friday, Apr 25th (11:59 PM GMT). Please let me know if you spot any errors.

dc167 Winter '05 results - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
A 4 -way Draw has been proposed. If I've done my math correctly:

4-way-draw: 10 points
Elimination: 2 points
Supply Center Bonus: +0.1 point per SC owned

Austria: 0 = 2pt
England: 9 = 10 + .9 = 10.9pt
Germany: 9 = 10 + .9 = 10.9
Italy: 8 = 10 + 8 = 10.8pt
Russia: 0 = 2pt
Turkey: 8 = 10 + .8 = 10.8pt

To pass, the end-game-proposal requires a yes vote from all remaining players. Any single "no" vote, abstention, or NMR will cause the proposal to fail.

Once Within - partial adjudications - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
You may have noticed that some have gotten results and others not – I’ll do this on occasion w the fog games if there were only a few retreats to handle. This way I get the retreat orders into all your maps when they do come out. It saves me time, and you all get better data. If you did NOT get results yet, consider yourselves lucky as you have no retreats due, and the rest will be out today. Smile

I will therefor adjust the schedule for that week.

Seismic - 2.0! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Things happen sequentially.

Moves, then Seismics.

Therefore you can move “faster” by using Seismics effectively…

Like for Italy:

F NAP-ION
With a seismic order of Join ION-Tri, Split Alb-ADR, would put Italy in attacking distance of Trieste in spring 01!

Or, F NAP-ION, A ROM-NAP
With a seismic order of Join Tun-Nap, Split TYS-ION, the army can then walk from Nap to Tun in the fall, no convoy needed!

Or, Italy could use a seismic to join Tus to Mar, creating a supported attack on Mar in fall 01.

The creative possibilities are endless.

In a nutshell, Seismic Diplomacy is a game played on the Standard map – Standard rules – Except instead of ordering just your moves, you also order a SEISMIC order as well! This is an order to change the map – by picking any border – and connecting 2 countries, thereby disconnecting two others. So you can order: Seismic: Join War-Sev, Split Mos-Ukr. Then War and Sev would grow together, splitting apart Mos and Ukr.

The EOG's (http://www.diplomaticcorp.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=4) showed that everyone had a blast, trying to come up w the most creative ways to alter the map.

It's only 7 players! If interested, join up on the Open Games page, www.diplomaticcorp.com/recruiting.

Seismic - 2.0! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Yes they would then clash and both fail.

However if two players order the same order, and it clashes with one player who opposed, the 2:1 would win and succeed, just like supports.

Note the way you’ve described it isn’t quite right… “splitting the provinces you believe someone is going to join”… for if someone is going to join them, then they’re already split.

However if your join crosses the same line that another join crosses, then they clash:

Player 1: Split War/Mos, join Ukr/Lvn
Player 2: Split War/Lvn, join Mos/Pru

Obviously one cant join both Ukr to Lvn, AND Mos to Pru, because that is topologically impossible. Both orders would fail, unless one of them was doubled up by another player.

Can I use split against a predicted join? Like splitting the provinces I believe someone is going to join? Would these two orders mutually neutralize?

Dark Side - all out! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Lumping me in with Felix (who I like and admire as a Dip player) is lame. We're different.

If you go back and check, you'll see that I've never (I don't think..I'd need to check as well) thrown a game for a solo...although I've been HELPED to GO solo...more than once. And in this game, I don't see it as throwing a game but rather helping to decide a winner...which is over-stating it a bit since, as Trout said, its really HIS good play that sealed this game. My move just helped move the game to quicker end.

So why "let" someone solo...what was my motivation this time?

Your play. Allowing you into a draw (if possible) would basically help you achieve a win...and at the end of the day, I thought Trout "deserved" a win over you. You did nothing to build an allaince or build trust with anyone except the player that you had in your pocket from the start...then about 3 years too late, you ASSUMED everyone you'd stabbed (or helped GET stabbed) all game would help you stop Trout.

You're a very talented player, Stephen...more talented than me but THAT is your blind spot. You assume people SHOULD play the way you play...and assume that you're playing well all the time...and assume that you don't need anyone else but your one key ally that you pick at the start of the game.

At the end of the day, I play to either achieve a win for myself or to make damm sure someone else does not get one.

Only you and Felix seem to play to let other people win.

Personally I hate that type of play. and i hate playung against those players.

Enough Said.

Yeah...Fletch just threw the game to Trout. I assure you that I will spend the few remaining units I have to Trout and make sure that I attack Fletch. That was really pretty dumb. There is NO WAY that you can get a part of a two-way draw...what were you thinking?

Yes, I am vindictive and yes, I will gladly ensure that Trout wins. Stupid stupid boy.

Dc169 Fall 1905 - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Dc169 Fall 1905

There was confusion with one of Austria's orders this turn. Fortuntately it did not have an effect on the outcome of the turn. Austria ordered

A Piedmont S French A gascony - Mars.

There is NO french army in gascony but there is an Italian army. Specifically the rules state that you do not need to write a country's name when providing support but here I cannot determine if Austria is trying to help france or Italy. However due to Dan's Cambodia work, he failed to submit orders for his army in gascony so the point is moot. However Austria's order has been determined void in this case.

Austria:
A Bohemia - Silesia
A Piedmont Hold
A Tyrolia Supports A Vienna - Bohemia
F Tyrrhenian Sea - Tunis (*Bounce*)

DC161 - You've got to be kidding me!... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Wow. Out of 4 sets of adjustments due 1.5 hours ago I have a grand total of one that has been sent in. 25% may be good if you're calculating your political popularity, but it sure ain't good enough to run the turn...

Due to necessity, we'll extend 24 hours. Please consider this to be a firm nudge to get your orders in. Deadline will now be set for Saturday, Apr 26th (11:59 PM GMT).

Guns, Germs and Steel 1264 / DC110 - Late Spring 1... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi folks,

Apologies for the late notice here. We had two sets of late orders last night - one of which has filtered its way in but the other of which remains outstanding. We are now on a 24 hour grace period for Japan and I will give Bret a further 11 hours to get orders in before seeking a Japanese replacement.

If I can comment in my usual blunt and straight-forward manner... (And of course I can since I'm the GM and its my soap-box here..*grin*) Players .. [u:57c23fc1c1]Suck It Up!![/u:57c23fc1c1]

The winning condition in this variant is 70 supply centers - all of us knew that this game was a behemoth when we signed up to play. Understandably the game is not so much fun any more for those players for which the table has now tilted - but please believe me when I assure you that at least HALF the players in this game VERY MUCH want it to continue and keep going.

I've seen some play in this game now that I don't know if I agree with - and I've seen some players that I greatly respect act out in ways that do not necessarily bring them credit. I will accept a player resignation at any point if you have decided that this game is no longer one that you want to be involved in. Also, draw proposals are always okay to put forward - please don't get me wrong...

However - there remains obvious interest in keeping this one going. And from my side, I have observed that it is FAR from the foregone conclusion that some of you seem to consider it to be...

Nuff said. Cheers!
