Spanish Press,

Spain has been reinstated as a nation. Though we were 'little' Israel for a while, that was to preserve our very existence. Now, that we have a small chance of surviving, we must do what is best. We do not belive that this is to strike Israel, nor strike Poland. To be frank, we would be most satisfied with this state of situation.

 To his former Liege,

I thank you for your most kind protection. I am still devoted in keeping Poland away, but not in the attacking way. And, as said above, I will not attack you either. I hope this slight change in policy will not affect our relationship.

As signed by Spain, Oct 10th

Poland Statement
To Ukraine: Ok, I will go to RUM this spring, and we support that army to BUL in Fall. Even if I fail to enter BUL, I will hold it for you. So, good luck in Black Sea.

[Reply]

DC106 Press - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Ukr -> Pol:  The Black Sea is a total mess!!!  Here's what I know:  Isr fleets in Ana & Car.  Armies in Bul, Tur, Kaz.  Pretty sure Army in Syr or Mes also.  I'd love some help retaking Bul, but first I need to secure the Black from Ana.  Taking care of that this round, which, looking at the map, gives me a good idea: You take Rum now and then we'll push you into Bul in the Fall.  Since I've lost it already, I'd rather you hold it (with the possibility of turning it back to me in the future) than Isr.  I need to block Ana -> EBS or WBS.  If he gets into Bla, my home centers are way too vulnerable.
As for Kaz, I will support you in, allowing my army, as you stated, to move South along the Black.

Ukr -> Isr:  We're sharing maps now, so you've got a tough fight ahead of you.  Would have been better had you just left me alone and not tried to grab my centers.

Poland's Statements

To Ukraine:
What's happening in around Black Sea? I need information, so that I can help you. I see your BUL is occupied, and Israel have built two, PIE and ATH. Would you like my support to BUL this turn? I have two armies ready there.
And, I will support you to KAZ. Or if you want, you can support my army to KAZ, so that you can head to Black Sea region later.

To Spain:
Well done my friend. You have killed Eire and let me move into SCH. You know that you are not going to have support from Eire now. I hope this would change your mind. I see Israel armies at TRL, VEN and VIE, fleet at ADR. I can definitely take TRL this spring with no problem. Then I can support your Army LAN to PIE in Fall. If you worry about me, you can hold DIJ with LAN support this spring.

Press::Ukr -> Pol:  Isr fleet in Con.  Cannot see Thr.  If you leave Rum, please watch that Isr doesn't move in from Bul.  Not sure how you pull that off Smile.  If I lose a center to you, it's just payback for you allowing me to hold Mus for these years.  We'll work it out later.  Better you have Rum than Isr.

Ukr -> Pol:  Please hit Bul to cut support for Con!  I may be able to support the move, but I definitely need the potential support cut.

DC106 - HUNGARY EOG - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Congrats Brian. I wish I would have cared about this game more. The game started just as my job took an unexpected turn for the worse, as most of you know. Then the rest of the summer had me battling my job, looking for a new one, and then finding a new place to live.

I thought the press at the beginning of the game was crucial. The powers that coordinated best I think all made it through. I think I survived, but I haven’t looked at a final map.

My initial intent was not to go towards Poland. But I think I ordered straight north with a unit or two, instead of ordering northwest and west like I did after those early moves north.
I briefly skimmed Poland’s EOG, and I think everything he wrote about our war looked correct.

The map was difficult as I only started with two home supply centers. I had to re-draw the map for Felix at the beginning of the game. That was fun. Not having centers names on the maps was difficult, and having it played with JDIP rather than the usual RP hurt. With games of more countries and provinces than the standard, I like sending out the file. With the FOG though, that couldn’t happen.

Maybe next time, Felix can send out one map with every adjudication that has the names of the provinces on the map.

Thanks Felix for your dedication with this game. I know there were some late submissions, me included earlier on in the game. The PRESS was very timely and the map creation was pretty difficult I bet.

To the rest, let’s do this again sometime.

Ok, so we are back to what was originally agreed upon with you in Arm and I in Smy.  Good, now let's stop fighting before Poland solos.  I will double support Con - Bul this fall.  If you make the order and also the support from WBS you are guaranteed to make it.  I also suggest you use EBS to convoy an army back to the north shore; we need to hit Poland now.  Any other thoughts?

To Spain:
How are you holding up?  Do you have a line that you think you can hold?  I can hold the Ven / Pie northern Italy line if you can hang on to Lan.  Let me know if there is any way I can help.

Israeli Notices:

First I want to thank all of you, especially Felix, for a great game; despite my frustration at the end with my inability to get Ukraine to recognize how much of a threat Poland really was, I still found it extremely enjoyable.  Wow so let's see if I can recall what I was thinking over the course of this game:

I remember that from the get-go I found myself lucky in that nobody attacked me (I'd like to think that my press had something to do with it, but I don't know how much truth there is in that).  Further, both my neighbors, Byz and Sicily, found themselves in wars with powers on their far sides, leaving their backs wide open to me.  I remember thinking I should keep these wars going as long as possible and work around them, so I nabbed Geo and Cyr and did some positioning.  Unfortunately this was before the fog and everybody started yelling about the "Big Green," so I had to make a move.  Luckily I attacked Byz the same turn he turned back toward me, and with Ukraine eating him from the other side the purple fell quickly (I now regret that I hadn't moved one turn earlier so that I could have claimed more of those SC's and maybe averted this whole Ukraine problem down the line, but of course that's speculation).  Ukraine and I then made a non-aggression pact that lasted surprisingly long considering it was a foregone conclusion that a PUI trio would inevitably squeeze Ukraine's expansion paths.  That enabled me to head west.

I hit Sicily quickly and claimed all of his Italian centers (I remember thinking that one set of orders that kept him out of Cyr after he disbanded everything but his two African units was particularly clever); Spain initially claimed Tun but I took that back quickly.  I set up a wall along the Pie/Ven border and it was my intention to go all the way to Spain.  This is where I have to credit Poland with some good PR as he convinced Ukraine to attack me, so I had to make quick peace with Spain, whose line I had just broken through.  The transformation really helped me here as I disbanded a good 4 or 5 units over two years and rebuilt them in the east to make a wall against Ukraine.  I lost Geo and Arm but as the game ended I had a wall that he wasn't going to get through.

I realized a few game years ago that Poland was going to solo, but unfortunately I really could do nothing to hurt or even hinder him with Ukraine throwing so much at me; I regret not trying harder to turn the white battalions around.  Although if he'd accepted my two supports of Con - Bul this last season we'd still be playing!  It, kind of annoyingly, was the fog that enabled Poland to solo, but that's what we signed up for!

Again thanks to all; it really was a fun one!

yeah i saw that 'misorder' the problem was that you also had wbs s armso i had to take one over the other and since wbs is a more valid move
obviously
i had to disregard ebs

it would not have mattered
as poland would have taken rum next turn
gg otherwise!!

Felix,
Well that's the last time I play on a map where I don't see the
territory names for every move!  I can't believe that you gave Poland
the win when it was obvious that I switched WBS & EBS.  The move of
WBS -> Rum would have stopped the solo. UGH!

EOG for Ukr:
I'm writing this before reading Israel's because I'm sure he's got
some not-so-nice things to say about me and my play.
The fight with Byz & Bur took a lot out of me.  I'm watching The
Godfather while typing this... and Poland definitely made me An Offer
I Couldn't Refuse.  I finally won my war and made a quick stab move on
Poland.  He saw it coming I guess, and made moves that would have
hamstrung me totally.  So, I turned around and moved on Israel.  At
the time, both were just about even, although Isr seemed a little more
powerful and better positioned.

I still stand by that choice.  It just happened to turn out that
Poland was able to keep growing and Isr got stuck in the mud.  We
battled it out around the Black, and that's where the game ended.

On thing about the end, though:  I flipped EBS & WBS around.  Pol had
left Rum open for me, and it was obvious that was my intention, but
the orders got flipped and Felix processed them as written.  My fault,
of course; but a bad way to end the game.  I'm not sure if Rum was the
final center for Poland, but if was, well, then Poland didn't even
want the game to end.

Good game all.  Very surprised to see the names attached to the players!

Mike -- Ukraine
