DC267 Winter 2011 Results - MattTheLesser   (Aug 20, 2009, 9:25 pm)
First off I apologize for the delay; I am on vacation and was not able
to get internet access yesterday.

An interesting winter all around, as somewhat of a circular supply
center trade occurred; the USA was able to sneak into Magadan, but
Russia took the North Pole from the Norwegians, who in turn took back
Longyearbyen from the Danes, who themselves took Baffin Bay from the
Canadians.

There is one retreat: Russian A Beaufort Sea may retreat to Chukchi
Abyssal Plain, Chukchi Sea, Mendeleyev Ridge, Northwest Passage,
Victoria Island, or OTB. That retreat and the Winter 2011 Adjustments
will be due this coming Monday, August 24, at 9 pm eastern. The
American build must be conditional on the Russian retreat, and, as
always, and I will adjudicate as soon as I have orders from all required
nations. Adjustments due are listed below the adjudication.

DC267 Fall 2011 Results - MattTheLesser   (Aug 14, 2009, 1:06 am)
Fall 2011 is all about Russia, as the Gray units find themselves in
three new supply centers after the spring, although one he cannot
assimilate in the winter because his ship will be destroyed by ice
should it stay where it is. Elsewhere the Canadians pull back a bit in
the Atlantic and the Danes and Norwegians continue to fight; this season
the Norwegians manage to take back their home center Longyearbyen, but
lose control of the vital Norwegian Sea in the process.

We have two retreats, and they both have a number of options: Norwegian
F Norwegian Sea may retreat to Greenland Sea, North Atlantic Ocean,
Oslo, Tromso, or OTB, and Russian F Kamchatka may retreat to East Bering
Sea, East Siberian Sea, Magadan, Pevek, Sea of Okhotsk, West Bering Sea,
or OTB. Those retreats will be due tomorrow, Friday August 14, at 9 pm
eastern. Please note that I am traveling tomorrow and thus may not be
able to get the adjudication out immediately, but I will try.

The following deadline, for Winter 2011, will be this coming Wednesday,
August 19, at 9 pm eastern.

DC267 Summer 2011 Results - MattTheLesser   (Aug 07, 2009, 8:32 pm)
With the first summer comes a number of interesting turns of events!
Denmark becomes the first power to allow a unit succumb to the climate,
choosing to have his A Yermak Plateau give a final support before
drowning; but it was a successful endeavor for the Danes as the support
sees a Danish fleet seize control of Longyearbyen from the Norwegians.
Elsewhere the Norwegians manage to keep the supply center count by
assimilating the North Pole, but that may not last long as Russia uses a
convoy to put a second army on the permanent ice. Lastly, in North
America the Canadians have a very successful summer; despite having had
an army drown in the spring they manage to pick up two more centers,
giving them a mighty three builds this winter.

We have one retreat: Norwegian F Longyearbyen may retreat to Barents
Sea, Franz Joseph Land, Yermak Plateau, or OTB. That retreat and the
Summer 2011 Adjustments will be due this coming Monday, August 10, at 9
pm eastern. Adjustments due are listed below the adjudication and
adjustments may be conditional on the retreat. As usual I will
adjudicate as soon as I have received orders from all required parties.

DC267 Spring 2011 Results! - MattTheLesser   (Aug 03, 2009, 10:53 pm)
The Great White North has claimed its first victim! Canada's army
attempts to flee the McKenzie Delta before the ice on which they stand
melts away, but their exit to the Yukon is bounced by an American army,
so the Canadian army drowns! The Americans also cause further trouble
for the Canadians by moving to Western Canada, although the Canadians
can draw some comfort that their move to the Queen Elizabeth Islands
succeeds this time around. Elsewhere the Norwegians claim the North
Pole and beat the Danes for control of the Norwegian Sea, and fleets are
seen in the Arctic Ocean proper for the first time as the Americans and
Russians take advantage of the melting ice to sail into the Chukchi Sea
and the East Siberian Sea, respectively.

We also have our first retreat, as the Canadians dislodge the Danish
fleet in the North Atlantic Ocean. The fleet can retreat to Iceland or
Torshavn. That will be due tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 eastern, but I will
publish it as soon as I receive it from Scott. The deadline for Summer
2011 orders will be this Friday, August 7, at 9 pm eastern.

DC267 Deadline Reminder and Rule Clarification - MattTheLesser   (Aug 03, 2009, 12:00 am)
First, remember that Spring 2011 comes our way tomorrow at 9 eastern, so
get those final orders in!

Second, a player brought to my attention a situation that is not
currently addressed in the rules, and I subsequently noticed a later
one. The rules state that a unit in an ice territory which is changing
state may be ordered to hold or support, and that those moves will
succeed; then the unit will be disbanded. However, the rules do not
specify exactly when the unit is disbanded, which raises two questions.
First, if such a unit is dislodged, can it retreat? And second, if such
a unit is in a supply center, does it assimilate the supply center
before it is disbanded? The rules state that the change of territory
state occurs "happens in the middle of the movement phase as the units
move." Thus the answer to both of these questions is no, for the ice or
water, whichever is applicable, that the unit would need to retreat to
an adjacent territory is gone by the time the retreat phase comes, and
for the same reason the unit would no longer exist by the time
assimilation occurs at the end of the retreat phase.

DC267 Winter 2010 Results! - MattTheLesser   (Jul 28, 2009, 9:05 pm)
Our first winter sees an increase in the action, with everyone earning
at least one build. Russia and the USA keep fairly quiet and each pick
up two close-to-home neutrals, but the Atlantic is much less peaceful,
with the Canadians and Danes keeping each other out of the Queen
Elizabeth Islands and Norway thwarting Denmark's attempt to sneak into Oslo.

There are no retreats, so we move directly to Winter 2010 adjustments,
which will be due this Thursday, July 30, at 9 pm eastern. Builds due
are listed below the adjudication. Per my house rules, all adjustments
are considered final unless specifically marked otherwise, so if
everyone sends their adjustments in quickly then I can adjudicate
early. However, I do consider conditional adjustments (that some of you
sent with your winter movement orders) preliminary, and I will only use
those if I do not hear from you by the deadline.

Also a heads up that I'm currently in the process of programming the
variant for RealPolitik, so that should be incorporated very soon!

DC267 Fall 2010 Results! - MattTheLesser   (Jul 21, 2009, 9:50 pm)
And the race for control of the Great White North has officially begun!
Conflict is avoided for the most part, as only a single bounce takes
place between Canada and the USA in Yukon. As might be expected, Norway
is the first power to venture out onto the ice; his army takes advantage
of the frozen sea to march to Franz Joseph Land. What is somewhat less
expected is that no one has elected to join him on the ice! However,
with the winter freeze upcoming, I suspect that this situation will not
last for long.

Let me remind you that from now on you will need to keep in mind which
territories will be freezing/melting when you look at the map to plan
your moves; the adjudication is on the fall map because it is for the
fall, but your next set of moves will be for the winter, so moves that
look legal on the fall map may not be! That said, I will do my best to
warn you if you have submitted and illegal order. I have also listed
below the adjudication the territories that will be freezing during the
next season, and I will continue to do this throughout the game.

There are no retreats (none were even possible), so we move directly to
the Winter 2010 movement season, which will be due this coming Monday,
July 27, at 9 pm eastern. Prelims are always encouraged!
