Diplomacy in Texas - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
In an effort to build a stronger network of players in Texas, and with
the long-term goal of building Texas Diplomacy event large and small,
I've created a Yahoo group for players in Texas, and in surrounding
areas (such as Texarkana, AR; Oklahoma; and western Louisiana). If
you'd like to join this free group, you can do so at:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/texas-diplomacy/

Even if you are not currently interested in attending such face-to-
face events, come join the discussion if you live in Texas, so we can
succeed in building the network of local clubs.

WOW! - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Now Austria has stepped down?

It appears to me that it is difficult to renegotiate with new players at each turn. and the new players may or may not be hostile.

now that my vent is over, are there ever cases of players changing powers and does the community have issues with players pulling out too often?
I'm just curious.

Replacements - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
David,

It's a common and recurring problem that is encountered by most diplomacy clubs that run online. No matter how many times you stress to new players that the game is often a 6-12 month committment there are always going to be players that drop out - or there could always be something that comes up in a player's real life committments that just has to take priority.

Whilst it is up to every GM whether or not he chooses to replace the player (my personal preference is to place the country in CD, yet many Gms will adopt their own preference) there are steps that we as a community can take to reduce the impact.

The player could attempt to seek a replacement player for the period of the vacation or absence, given some stability to the position. The player could also submit moves and conditional moves and retreats to try and cover the deadline period.

if a player does seem to abandon a position - then we as moderators will keep a record of that player so that when they join their next game, we can raise the issue to the GM if needed or ask the player in question if the reason for the abandonment has been resolved.

However - there is not one solution.

DC196 - A New English Hero - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Hi everyone,

My apologies for the delay in the game. Murphy's Law as usual - when things go wrong they go wrong at the worst possible time. Mike's departure combined with my three-day drive and a situation of no internet access.

But - all water under the bridge now. Please welcome Rachael, (verticallychallangedcutie(at)gmail.com (verticallychallangedcutie(at)gmail.com)), who has been good enough to step into the role as England. To give her a little time to meet and greet with you all, I'll reset the Spring 1902 deadline for Thursday, July 31st (11:59 PM GMT). This isn't as much time as I'd like to grant her - but I have to factor in the already extended delay that the game has gone through.

Thanks for hanging in there everyone. We're back on track and rearing to go. Cheers!

Subject: DC191 A Study In Baltic - Fall 1903 - The Blue Carbuncle

We leave our good friends Holmes and Watson on their own this turn, as they gather supplies for their foray across the Scandinavias. Meanwhile, we see the last of the neutral centers snapped up as Poland and Sweden continue to line up against each other, and Finland brings their northern fleet southwards towards the action.

Poland and Russia both gain a build for the Winter turn. We'll have a slightly longer turn than usual, however... Your humble GM is making a foray of his own over the next several days and driving across Canada - I should have internet access at the hotels, but you can never truly rely on that..

Thus, please have your Winter adjustments in to me by Monday, July 28th (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers folks, just let me know if you spot an error.

Thanks for checking Chris, and apologies to everyone... I'm unusually late this week owing to the drive and limited internet access / various four-year-old time consuming nephews here at the cottate.

In retrospect, I should definitely have scheduled a week-long lapse in between deadlines.

Winter adjudication is completed and will be out within the next hour. Thanks for the patience you guys - this doesn't happen to me often but your humble GM does have his stumbles...

least hold till we can possibly hear from him that he's alive? I wont
complain if Turkey's going to go CD I can race for the free centers but
I'd rather have a player.

DC-198 Summer Mayhem Spring 1904 Adjudication - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Guys im really sorry about that, I got held up at the hospital myself but with my mother. I'm not going CD or anything just had really bad timing. Anyway i'm totally in on it now, and I appoligize for my prior misses of the deadline, like I said, it's just been rough. We understand that you were still able to play even though you were in the hospital mike but that's why your a DP game and i'm a lowly pawn. =)

Sorry again guys, now lets play!

Turkey has been actively playing up till this point. Given I just went
to the hospital and barely made moves myself, can I move that we at
least hold till we can possibly hear from him that he's alive? I wont
complain if Turkey's going to go CD I can race for the free centers but
I'd rather have a player.
