DC 341: Deadline tomorrow - AceRimmer   (Nov 04, 2010, 9:55 am)
S1904 is due tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CST (15:00 GMT). As of right now, most units in Europe are in a drowsy torpor. They wish they had some orders.

DC 341: Fall 1903 - AceRimmer   (Oct 29, 2010, 9:10 am)
Winter 1903 is due Monday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. CST.

Retreats:

None. Not even a dislodge-disband. The result?

Last season, I wrote of the West: ???The minor re-shufflings should make the Fall active enough.??? Boy, was I wrong. Fall 1903 in the West was dull. Not a single English, French, or German unit moved. Nor did the Russian units in Scandinavia. Bupkis. This Winter, England will have to scrap a unit while Russia will do quite the opposite. Perhaps then things in the West will shift.

In the East, Austria???s units were like sheep whose shepherd has been struck down. They were scattered. Italian and Russian units quickly advanced to close the gap.

Thus, the table is set for Winter. Lots of adjustments. Everybody except France has something to do:

Austria: Supp 2 Unit 4 Remove 2
England: Supp 3 Unit 4 Remove 1
France: Supp 6 Unit 6 Build 0
Germany: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1
Italy: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1

DC 341: Springtime 1903 - AceRimmer   (Oct 21, 2010, 11:37 am)
Summer 1903 is due tomorrow (Friday, October 22) at 10:00 a.m. CST.

The Russian fleet in North Sea may retreat to just about anywhere: Denmark, Edinburgh, Norway, Yorkshire, or OTB.

In general, this season, if you ordered it, it happened. Supports??? weren???t cut. Movements??? weren???t bounced. Holds??? well, if you held, you may have been dislodged. Maybe even disbanded.

It???s all quiet along the western front! Support this. Support that. Support, support, support, support. Boring but effective. The minor re-shufflings should make the Fall active enough.

Things in the Balkans look rather more spicy. With the able assistance of his Russian neighbor, Turkey breaks out the electro-magneto-ray-guns (an Austrian unit is vaporized!). Italy is on the move! And the conga line, though a little bit shorter, continues lively on the A-R border: Sev -> Ukr -> Gal -> Bud -> Vie! Mr. Kudlick, I feel your pain.

I, for one, find all of these adjustments (well, except for the Turkish disband, which was pretty straight-forward) to be intriguing. It should be an entertaining 1903.... which will occur next Thursday, October 21, at the usual 10:00 a.m. CST (15:00 GMT).

DC 341: F1902 Adjudication - AceRimmer   (Oct 14, 2010, 10:24 am)
Winter 1902 is due *tomorrow* (Friday, October 15) at 10:00 a.m. CST.

Orders are required from France, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Turkey. Will you be building or disbanding?

But what about Fall retreats? Weren???t two units dislodged? Um, yes. One of them is an ex-unit (no available retreats, no unit). The other had only one retreat option, so I auto-retreated it. The player could override the auto-retreat, but it???d be frivolous, as he also has a disband coming.

In the West: the EF steamroller advances inexorably, pulverizing German armies in its path. But what???s this? A Russian fleet vacates English-owned Norway and heads for the blue seas of the North?! Whose friend is it? Spring 1903 should be informative.

In the East: it???s a Conga line! War -> Gal -> Ukr -> Sev -> Rum -> Bul! Whew! So, Turkey loses a center to Austria who loses a center to Russia. Maybe this is the beginning of the end for Turkey. But maybe this is an appropriate time to mix and match alliances.

Denmark and Greece finally have lords and masters (Germany and Italy, respectively).

Fall Retreat:
Turkish A Bul retreats to Constantinople

Winter status:
Austria: Supp 5 Unit 5 Build 0
England: Supp 4 Unit 4 Build 0
France: Supp 6 Unit 5 Build 1

In the north, England and Germany both advance on Denmark, while Russia slides into Norway. France creeps into Burgundy. Can Germany turn the tide?

In the east, Austria forms the classic Budapest Doughnut Hole??? i.e. and empty Budapest with Austrian units all around. Italians land in Greece. Trieste and Venice continue to not pass through each other. And Russia and Turkey continue bickering over the Black Sea.

There is one dislodged unit. The Russian army in Galicia may retreat to Bohemia, Silesia, Warsaw, or to that unknown region called Offus Boardicus.

Summer 1902 is due on Monday, October 11 at 10:00 a.m. CST. However, if Gareth gets his retreat submitted this morning, I???ll take care of it today.

Fall 1902 will be due on Thursday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. CST.

Well, no surprises really. Armies where you???d expect armies. Fleets where you???d expect fleets.

Just as a note: in the last two seasons, I have twice received order sets with errors that were later corrected. Because they arrived 24 hours pre-deadline, I notified the players and they corrected the gaffes??? but you might want to proofread your orders.

We finished Charlotte???s Web last night.  Not to spoil it for anybody, but Charlotte dies.  That???s what happens when you spin webs.  However, apparently freshwater hydras can live forever.  Who knew?  I???m sure there???s a moral in there somewhere.

Germany???s Spring 1901 choice of F Kiel-Holland unfolds into Fall 1901.  Russia takes Sweden.  Germany takes Belgium (in spite of French support for the English fleet).  And England bounces the Kaiserin out of Denmark.

On the other side of the map, Austria seizes Rumania with Turkish help!  Russia, however, is no sleeping bear; he uses the opportunity to wend his way into Galicia.

And Italy and Austria continue their bizarre physics experiment in Venice/Trieste, seeing if the laws of quantum mechanics will allow an army and a fleet to pass clean through each other.  They don???t.  Not yet at least.

Like Christmas morning, it???s the unwrapping of the Spring 1901 orders. Did Santa give you what you wanted? For instance, is there an unguarded Sweden waiting under the tree? Perhaps your army is in Galicia? Or your neighbor honored that DMZ in Burgundy? Or did you get a lump of coal (as signified by a Turkish army in Armenia)? So many presents??? So many ramifications??? It???s enough to make a reindeer pause???

The elves have also left you three attachments: a GIF of the current map, a GIF of the S1901 orders, and a .dpy (in case you???re following along with a copy of RealPolitik, which is what I am using to adjudicate).
