DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Summer 832 - Hermits - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
Still there's one thing about being a hermit, at least you meet people.

And the Anglo-Saxons will meet people in Sussex.. Or so they have decided with the Summer retreat.

Deadline for Fall 832 orders will be set for Sunday, June 29th (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers everyone!

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 834 - Gumby Croon... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
In the old days we used to make our own fun. At Christmas parties I used to strike myself on the head repeatedly with blunt instruments while crooning...

Somebodies head is getting bludgeoned - thats for sure. The Bretons exact some punishment in Ireland as the Scots take back Deira with enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the Swedes decide they like the British Isles and invite their families over for the weekend fun...

One retreat was needed after the Fall 834 moves but the Swedish army from Deira had only Chester to resort to. I took the liberty, but Mikael if you prefer OTB then please just let me know.

Winter 834 adjustments are relatively light with only a disband from the Scots due up. I'll set the deadline for Thursday, Aug 21st (11:59 PM GMT). However, please note that I am beginning my trip back west on Thursday and may run into internet difficulties along the way again... Clark - if you can get me the disband earlier and marked FINAL, I will adjudicate early.

Let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

Dear Sir, I am writing to complain about that sketch about people failing out of a high building. I have worked all my life in such a building and have never once.... arrgghhh

------------------

Heya folks,

Well, the excitement of the turn seems to be on the diplomatic front. Sparing time from cleaving skulls open, the Dark Ages messengers have been busy delivering end-game proposals from the remaining powers.

For your consideration, the following have been proposed:

1. A Swedish Solo
2. A Swedish/Norse 2-way draw
3. A Swedish/Norse/Breton 3-way draw
4. A Scots/Norse/Swedish 3-way draw
5. A Norse/Swedish/Scots/Breton 4-way draw
6. A DIAS (Anglo-Saxon/Breton/Norse/Scot/Swedish 5-way draw)

As for the Winter adjustments themselves, Sweden builds an army in Gotar and the Anglo-Saxons disband in Dyfed. Spring 836 orders and your end-game proposal votes will be due Friday, September 12th (11:59 PM GMT).

Cheers!

Well come on in, excuse me not shaking hands, I've just been putting a bit of lard on the cat's boil.

----------------------

And with those fitting words, the nail is shut on the Anglo-Saxons... The Bretons finish the job with the help of the Swedes, and throw a helping hand of their own to the Norse. As for the mass of end-game proposals, all of them meet with defeat and the bloodshed continues.

Two retreats are required after all of that - both belonging to the Scots. The Scottish fleets in Scapa Flow and Ulster both need to find new homes. Deadline for the Summer 836 orders will be set for Monday, September 15th (11:59 PM GMT).

Just let me know if you spot any errors in the adjudication. Cheers, ya savages!

Good morning. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently, and so it takes me rather longer to get to work.

-----------

The walking in DC-161 is complete now, the Swedes marching their way into a 19 center solo victory. A big congratulations go to Mikael, as well as to Bruce, Josh and Clark who hang on through the Swedish tidal wave to pick up survivals. All end-game proposals failed to reach united consensus, but Mikael took matters into his own hands.

Through blood and fire, the Dark Ages game now comes to conclusion. My thanks to all players for their efforts in this one - I think we can easily say that it was a resounding success. Your end-game statements are highly encouraged, along with any comments you might have as to the layout of the map and the playability of the positions.

This was truly a pleasure to GM folks. Thank you all for taking a part in it. Congrats once again to Mikael, and thanks for everyone for being such a wicked bunch of savages. =P

Cheers everyone!

Congrats Mikael, you back-stabbing sob Wink.

As I recall from the start of this game we were play-testing this map and Trout wanted feedback on it when it was all over. This was a fun game but overall I'd have to say not the best balanced of maps. The map is very split between eastern and western forces with allies choices being very limited. While it did not occur in this game I can see huge potential for this map quickly turning into a two player slug-fest as initial alliances between the two halves of the map collapse leaving only a single powerful force on each side to oppose each other. In some areas around the map the oceans seem designed to create deadlocks with a minimum of forces necessary and little or no way to break the stalemate. Lastly, with only two inland supply centers on the map Armies are essentially optional. They're a good supplement, but I think a skilled tactician could make a very strong attempt at winning on this map without ever building a second Army.

One way or the other this was a well played game by all. I look forward to playing with all of you again sometime.

- Josh

Subject: DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 836 - Swedish Solo Victory - Ministry of Silly Walks

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Fall 835 - Strangers I... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
At the risk of annoying folks (and clinging to my anti-Breton strategy), i'll only vote for the Scot/Norse/Swede draw, and not a 4-way. Certainly y'all can just eliminate me to deal with that contingency.

Hopefully in looking at the board, we can all agree who the three major powers are at this point.

Of course, I will also accept a DIAS as if bretons are going to be included in a draw, then I'll want to insist I am as well (as long as I cling to a one-center existence).

Gents,

it was i who proposed the norse/swedish draw, and I would argue that it's that alliance that was the game-changer in this one despite my numerous efforts to break it up - much to Mikael's annoyance...

Although that draw's been voted down, in my opinion that alliance and the level of play from it - including what seems to be unbelievable trust between the partners - deserves credit for taking the win. However, scotland has certainly performed admirably as well.

I'll support a scotland/norse/swedish draw or a swedish/norse draw, but otherwise will keep fighting. No offense to bruce, but my strategy became to prevent a Breton win after our intial partnership failed - mostly due to my dissatisfaction with division of centers.

Britons, Norse, Anglo-Saxons, would love to work with you guys to try

DC161 Knights Who Say Ni! - Spring 835 - The First... - test_gm   (Sep 13, 2007, 12:00 am)
You see if you're five miles out over the English Channel, with nothing but sea underneath you, er, there is a very great impetus to say in the air.

....

Sorry folks. I seem to have gotten a day behind myself. Thanks for the patience as your humble GM gets his act together... Exciting things happen on the Dark Ages board of ours as an entire Anglo-Saxon army vanishes into mid-air and the Bretons get a little punch-drunk from the hits that keep coming... Meanwhile the Norse loom in the north, the Swedes loom in the south and the Scots just continue to be the obstinate rock of the middle.

Two Breton retreats are due after the Spring action. Deadline for Summer 835 retreats will be set for Friday, August 29th (11:59 PM GMT). As we chase these up, however, a three-way Swedish/Norse/Breton draw has been proposed. Please let me hear ya holler with your yay or nays to this proposal - deadline for the vote will be set with the Summer retreats.

Please let me know if you spot any errors. Cheers!

Now Mr Phipps, you do realize that the post of librarian carries with it certain very important responsibilities. I mean, there's the selection of books, the record library, and the art gallery. Now it seems to me that your greatest disadvantage is your lack of professional experience ... coupled with the fact that, uh, being a gorilla, you would tend to frighten people.

Hey guys,

As mentioned this afternoon the Bretons check out the libraries in Connaught and Chester, only to find that all the war epics were all over-due and all other books had been ripped, torn and burnt. Ooooh those Dark Ages...

Deadline for Fall 835 orders remains Thursday, September 4th (11:59 PM GMT). Cheers all!

Unless the remaining players are willing to band together against the
Swedes, he's got the solo locked up this year (and may have it anyway
even if we resist).

Britons, Norse, Anglo-Saxons, would love to work with you guys to try
to prevent that and force a draw. If you're interested please email me
direct. Otherwise, I suggest we call this one and vote a Swedish solo.

Sweden, very well played! Enjoyed playing with everyone and hope to

Gents,

I very much doubt that the Norse or Britons would turn down the 3-way draw they're going to be a part in. Of course, I would not argue if the solo was voted in my favour (but why give up now?), then I would of course accept that as well.

Gents,

it was i who proposed the norse/swedish draw, and I would argue that it's that alliance that was the game-changer in this one despite my numerous efforts to break it up - much to Mikael's annoyance...

Nathan
